Margie Dean Sherman
Margie Dean Sherman, 78, of Arcadia, KS died 5:00am Sunday July 11, 2010 at her home following a long illness. Margie was born July 25, 19 31 in Wicks, Arkansas the daughter of Julian and Maybell Brewer Ward. She has been a part of the area for over 50 years. On May 24, 19 57 she married
Harry D. Sherman in Arkansas; he preceded her in death on December 16, 1988. Margie worked as a housewife. She was a member of the House of Prayer Church in Arcadia, KS; she belonged to AARP, loved crocheting, fishing and cooking. Survivors include her step-children Jane Johnson and husband Lee of Frontenac, KS and Charles D. Sherman of Arma, KS; siblings June Britt, Cledith Ward, Olaleen Ward and Julia Ward; sister and brother in-laws Maudie and Charles Sherman; 5 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, siblings Arleen Ward, Bonnie Ward, Florence Ward, grandchildren Lisa Clinton Perrino and Dink Sherman. Graveside Services will be 10am Thursday July 15, 2010 at the Garden of Memories cemetery in Pittsburg, KS with Rev. Emul DeGonia officiating. Family will receive friends from 6-7pm Wednesday July 14, 2010 at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac, KS. Friends may call the funeral home after 2pm on Wednesday. Lois Kathryn Zafuta
FRONTENAC — Lois Kathryn Zafuta, 87, of Frontenac, died at 7:50pm, Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, KS. Lois was born February 7, 1923 in Vernon County, MO the daughter of Vernon and Erma Hohn Davis. She spent her childhood and teenage years on the family farm and attended Bronaugh High School. She married
Harry Zafuta on June 19, 1942 in Nevada, MO. In 1945, they moved to Frontenac where she spent most of her life as a homemaker while also working at Vacohy in Girard. Harry preceded her in death on July 7, 1984. She married
Pete Onelio in 1998. He preceded her in death in 2007. Survivors include sisters Shirley Young of Independence, MO and Nadine Lloyd of Camdenton, MO, sons Ronald of Pittsburg and Paul (Debbie) of San Diego, CA, daughters Anita Lunn of Fresno, CA, Beverly (Dan) Burke of Hotchkiss, Co, and Dana Zafuta of Auberry, CA, 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Her life was centered around friends and family. She will be remembered for her love for her children, playing the piano, and playing cards and games with her grandchildren. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at Friskel Funeral Home, 230 E. McKay St, PO Box 907, Frontenac, KS 66762. Burial will follow at Stevens cemetery near Bronaugh, MO. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Monday at the funeral home. Friends may call the funeral home after 3pm on Monday. The family suggests expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to the Frontenac High School Education Foundation Fund. LaMoine A. Kabonic
LaMoine A. Kabonic, 94, of Pittsburg died at 4 p.m. Thursday September 30, 2010 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg. She was born February 29, 1916 in Ypsilanti, MI the daughter of Peter and Lettie (Godfrey) Denick. She had lived in the Southeast Kansas Area for over 30 years moving to the area from Illinois. LaMoine was a homemaker; a member of the Grace United Methodist Church of Pittsburg; was active helping with the bazaars within her church group. She crocheted winter hats for Wesley House. Survivors include a daughter Val Rae Marsh of Frontenac; a son Doug Marsh of Pittsburg; 3 Grandchildren and 2 Great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother Romaine Denick, a half brother Everett Denick and an adopted sister Leon Bein. Memorial graveside services will be 1 p.m. Saturday October 9, 2010 at the Highland Park cemetery in Pittsburg with Reverend Don Foster officiating. Family and friends are requested to meet at the cemetery. Allen F. Smith
GIRARD — Allen F. Smith, 87, passed away suddenly at his home in Girard, KS. Tuesday, October 5, 2010. Allen was born July 3, 1923 in rural Pittsburg, the son of Oscar and Myrtle (Horn) Smith. Allen married
Frances (Bennett) Smith on May 11, 1947 in rural McCune. They enjoyed 63 wonderful years of marriage together. He was a member of the Girard Bible Church, and was also active in the Pioneer Harvest Fiesta. On April 6, 1943 Allen joined the Army, serving in WWII, in the 9th Air Force, 344th Bomb Group, 495 Squadron. He flew 55 missions as an Aerial Gunner in the European Theater of Operations. Survivors include his wife Frances, of the home. Other survivors include 1 son, Luther and Wife Penny of rural Girard, Ks., 3 daughters, Carolan Wishall of Overland Park, Ks., June Alice Dussault and husband Leo of Tilton, New Hampshire, Jennifer Smith of Panama City, Fl.; 9 grandchildren, Rachel Fairweather, Kayla Wishall, Sheldon, Nathan and Andy Smith, Allen and Austin Griffith, and Benjamin and Emma Dussault. 5 Great-Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Rodney Smith and Sister Alice Unroe, and a Grand daughter, Meghan Diane Smith. The family will receive friends at the family home from 6:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Thursday October 7th. Funeral Service will be noon Friday at the Girard Bible Church, in Girard, Ks. with Pastor Steve Ward officiating. Burial will be 2:30 P.M. at Fort Scott National cemetery with Fort Riley Military Honors. Memorials may be made to the Girard Bible Church Missionary Fund. Ruby Mae Walker
Ruby Mae Walker, 71, of Farmersville, TX died October 10, 2010 at the Plano Medical Center in Plano, TX. She was born November 14, 1938 in Arma, KS the daughter of Clifford and Barbara (Shoup) Elliott. On August 28, 1982 she was united in marriage to Lloyd Walker in Kansas City MO; he survives her of the home. Additional survivors include a daughter Susan Wratchford of Farmersville, 3 sons: Gerald Wratchford of Nevada, Tyler and Ward Dowling both of Farmersville, a sister Mary Klingensmith of Emporia, KS, a brother Joe Elliott of Muskogee, OK, seven grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Graveside services will be 2 pm, Friday, October 15, 2010 at the Garden of Memories cemetery with Pastor Sandy Stallings officiating. Anson A. “Fred” Boham
FRONTENAC — Anson A. “Fred” Boham, 79, of Frontenac, KS, died at 3:50 pm, Thursday, October 28, 2010, at his home. He had been in ill health for 3 months. He was born March 16, 1931 in Rosendale, MO the son of Anson and Bessie Erskine Boham and had been a resident of Frontenac since 1954. Fred graduated from Pittsburg High School with the class of 1949 and attended Kansas State Teachers College now known as Pittsburg State University for one year. Mr. Boham was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Army and was honorably discharged as a corporal in 1952. He married
Joyce Menechetti on December 16, 1949 in Pittsburg, KS and she preceded him in death on July 26, 2000. Mr. Boham was a Tool Engineer and general manager of A-1 Tool and Machine Inc in Pittsburg for 30 years, retiring in 1996. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac, KS, the Mirza Shrine and Elks Club both in Pittsburg and the Frontenac American Legion Post. Survivors include two daughters Debbie Low of Brookeland, Texas; and Cindy Slayman of 109 N. Cherokee in Frontenac, KS; two granddaughters Megan Slayman of Frontenac and Emily Redden of Pittsburg, KS; one great-grandson Anson Redden. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Joyce. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac, with Father Robert Spencer, as celebrant. Burial will be in the Mt. Carmel cemetery in Frontenac. Flag folding ceremonies will be by the Frontenac American Legion Post. The organist will be Sharon Barone. Pallbearers will be Earl Low, Israel Redden, Rick Marchetti, Jack Marchetti, John Brooks and J. B. Brooks. The parish rosary will be recited at 9am, Monday at the Friskel Funeral Home, in Frontenac, KS and the family will receive their friends after the rosary service until 10am. Ann (Spigarelli) Williams
Ann (Spigarelli) Williams, 96, of Frontenac died at 12:30 a.m. Monday November 8, 2010 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg. She was born January 20, 1914 in Capaldo, KS the daughter of Nickalos and Vita (Maceli) Ianotta. She moved to Frontenac from Capaldo and remained in Frontenac. Ann married
Leveo Spigarelli on March 9, 1935 in Lamar, MO; he preceded her in death on May 26, 1969. She then married
Andrew E. Williams in 1975 in Frontenac; he preceded her in death in March of 1987. She worked 10 years in the sales department at Montgomery Ward in Pittsburg. Ann was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac, the AARP and the Frontenac Eagles Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking; sharing her cooking tips and had a good sense of humor with the nursing home staff. Survivors include grandchildren Kim Evans of Joplin, MO, Daneen Groff of Humboldt, KS, Deana Jones of Pittsburg, Dean Groff of Ft. Wayne, IN, Scott Spigarelli of Pittsburg, Lisa Nance of Joplin, MO, Todd Gibby and Meshell Hatcher of Texas City, TX; two step-daughters Verna Williams of Joplin, MO, Ann Gibby of Baxter Springs, KS and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, a son Joe Spigarelli and two brothers Antonio “Nick” and Philip Ianotta. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday November 12, 2010 at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac. Burial will follow in the Frontenac City Cemetery. Anna Lou Wiseman
Anna Lou Wiseman, 72, of Frontenac died at 1:05 p.m. Wednesday November 10, 2010 at the St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Joplin. She was born September 12, 1938 in Parsons, KS the daughter of Chester and Edna (Tracy) Maupin. She moved from Parsons to Frontenac in 1961. She married
Richard Wiseman on June 27, 1959 in Junction City, KS; he survives at the home. Anna was a homemaker, mother and wife. She also, along with her husband Richard, owned and operated Wiseman’s Tire in Frontenac. She enjoyed playing bingo with her mother, spending time with her friends. Anna was a wonderful and caring wife, mother and grandmother. Survivors include her husband Richard of the home; two sons Joe Wiseman and wife Janette, Scott Wiseman and wife Judy all of Frontenac; three grandsons Jeff Wiseman of California, Shannon and Zack Wiseman both of Frontenac. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday November 13th at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac with Dr. Bud Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in the Frontenac City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home where friends may call after noon on Friday. Larry Wayne “Bubba” Sustarsic
Larry Wayne “Bubba” Sustarsic, 54, of Arma, KS, passed away on January 15, 2011, at the Girard Medical Center, in Girard, KS, he had been in ill health for the past two and a half years. Larry was born in Pittsburg, Kansas on November 12, 1956 to Frank and Mae (McCool) Sustarsic. He graduated from Northeast High School, upon graduation, Larry began working for Pitt Plastics in Pittsburg, KS. He was employed with them for 32 years, retiring in 2008 due to ill health. He was an avid Jay Hawk, Chiefs and Royals fan. He married
Janna Owen in June of 1986 and they later divorced. From that marriage, Larry’s greatest joy was born, his daughter Amanda, She survives along with his mother Mae, his brothers Frankie Sustarsic and wife Phyllis of Pittsburg, and Gary Sustarsic of Arma, along with his sister Joyce Sustarsic of Arma, many nieces, nephews and a granddaughter Chloe to be born in May, also a special daughter Samantha Owen of Olathe, KS. He was preceded in death by his father. Funeral services will be 10 am, Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at the Friskel Funeral Home 230 E. McKay Frontenac, with Rev. Jim Sukraw officiating. Mary Margaret Davis Pyles
Mary Margaret Davis Pyles, 83, of Frontenac, KS died February 5, 2011 at the Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, KS. She was born October 31, 1927 in Frontenac, KS the daughter of William and Mary Margaret (Lavery) Davis. She attended schools in Frontenac and Kansas City, KS and received her nursing degree from St. Mary’s College. She worked as a registered nurse and was a homemaker.

Bert Pyles on August 30, 1947 in Kansas City, KS; he preceded her in death in October of 1993. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac. Survivors include a son David Pyles and family of Washington; daughter-in-law Patti Pyles, their children Brie Sudderth and husband Dan, Lindsey Regalia and son Logan and Karly Regalia; a daughter Sue Pennington and family of Overland Park, KS, son-in-law David Pennington and their children Korie Pennington and Skye Pennington. Memorial services will be 6 p.m. Friday February 18, 2011 at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac with Father Robert Spencer officiating. Inurnment will be in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
