Thomas Martin Barrett, Jr.
Thomas Martin Barrett, Jr. passed away Monday, February 7, 2011, at the Oak Bend Hospital in Richmond, TX. He was born October 31, 1922 in Weir, KS the son of Thomas Martin Barrett, Sr. and Nell (Hallacy) Barrett. He graduated from Weir High School and Kansas State Teachers College with a Bachelors Degree in Mathematics. Thomas was a WWII Army Veteran, serving in the 101st Airborne from January 1943 to January 1946. He was awarded the EAME Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars, The Purple Heart and The World War II Victory Metal. On August 12, 1953 he was united in marriage to Mary Naccarato in Springfield, IL. She preceded him in death on November 17, 2007. He was a Pipefitter/Steamfitter for Local 140. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac. Survivors include a daughter, Thea Barrett of Richmond, TX; two sisters: Marie Lorenzato of San Mateo, CA and Sister Helen Barrett of Wichita, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two brothers Timothy and John Robert Barrett. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 am, Monday, February 14, 2011 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac with Father Robert Spencer as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Bridget’s Catholic cemetery in Scammon, KS. Family will receive friends at the Friskel Funeral Home from 6 pm Sunday where the rosary will be recited at 7 pm. Rosemary Bosetti
Rosemary Bosetti, 85 of Frontenac died at 8:41p.m. Thursday March 3, 2011 at the Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Frontenac. She was born April 1, 1925 in Detroit, MI the daughter of Norman and Rose (Young) Haigh. She attended elementary school in Scammon and was a graduate of West Mineral High School. She then attended and graduated from the Mount Carmel School of Nursing in 1945. Upon her graduation from Nursing School Rosemary worked for several physicians, and then worked as a nurse for Mount Carmel Hospital. She then worked for Crawford County and was instrumental in establishing the Crawford County Health Department. She completed her nursing career working as a school nurse at Girard School District retiring in 1987. Rosemary married
Jack Gintner in 1947; he preceded her in death in August of 1959. She married
Gus Bosetti in December of 1970 in Frontenac, he survives at the home. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Sacred Heart Alter Society, and a 55 year member of the Frontenac American Legion Auxiliary where she served as past district president and a member of the Society of 8 & 40. Survivors include her husband Gus of the home; a daughter Jan Heardt and husband Jim of Frontenac; three brothers Norman Haigh of Louisiana, Jack Haigh of Texas and Tommy Haigh of Lindsborg, KS; 2 Grandchildren Jennifer White and Jason Heardt and four Great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Jack Gintner, a daughter Joyce Ann Gintner in 1957 and a sister Florine Dubois. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11a.m. Monday March 7, 2011 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac with Father Robert Spencer as celebrant. Private family burial will follow in the Mount Carmel cemetery in Frontenac. The parish rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac where the family will receive friends following until 8 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Sunday. Rita Marie Barthelme
Rita Marie Barthelme, 70, died on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 in Glendale, AZ following a lengthy illness. She was born May 25, 1940 on Topeka, KS the daughter of Leo F. and Mabel F. (Gallagher) Barthelme. She attended and graduated from St. Mary’s Colgan High School. She was a former resident of Frontenac and also lived in Wichita from 1987 – 2004 when she moved to Phoenix. She was a member of the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Phoenix. Rita worked for the State Farm Insurance Company in auto claims for many years until her retirement. Survivors include a sister Loretta Frisby and husband Harold of Phoenix, a sister-in-law Lavon Barthelme, eight nieces and nephews and 18 great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother William F. Barthelme. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am, March 14, 2011 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Fr. Thomas Stroot as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the Friskel Funeral Home from 2-4 pm Sunday afternoon. Marie K. Jursche
Marie K. Jursche, 89 of Frontenac died at 5:35 p.m. Thursday. She was born April 17, 1921 in Pittsburg, KS the daughter of Walter and Josephine (Mohre) Rudolph. She attended schools in Frontenac and was a 1939 graduate of Frontenac High School. Marie married
Leon Jursche on July 17, 1942 in Ocean View, VA; he preceded her in death on May 25, 2010. She was a sales clerk working for JC Penney for over 20 years. Marie was a member of the Frontenac United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include a daughter Maggie Ryan of Ottawa, KS; a niece Frieda Brigs of Albuquerque, NM and a nephew Donald J. Morettini of Pleasanton, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leon and a daughter JoAnne. According to her wishes Marie has been taken for cremation. No services area planned. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Frontenac United Methodist Church or the Frontenac Education Foundation. Jean Lark Hays
Jean Lark Hays, 98 of Frontenac died at 9:45 a.m. Friday March 18, 2011 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg. She was born November 27, 1912 in Frontenac, KS the daughter of William Louis and Elizabeth (Thornburg) Vaughn. Jean was a graduate of Sand Springs, OK High School and attended 2 years of Business College also in Sand Springs. She married
Gilbert Lark he preceded her in death on June 13, 1956; she then married
Boyd Hays in June of 1976, he preceded her in death on April 26, 1990. Jean worked in the college bookstore and was the owner/operator of Stretch-Knit Sewing fabric shop in Pittsburg. She was a member of the Frontenac United Methodist Church, the Frontenac American Legion Auxiliary and a charter member of the Little Balkans Quilt Club. Survivors include a son Bill Lark and wife Carol of Minden, NV, two daughters Vaughn Hobson and husband Carder of Louisburg, NC and Debby Baima and husband Terry of Frontenac, KS; seven Grandchildren, eight Great-grandchildren and two Great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands and a brother Louis Vaughn. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday March 21, 2011 at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac with Reverend Dennis Johnson officiating. Burial follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Marjorie (Marge) F. Gaston
Marjorie (Marge) F. Gaston passed away after a courageous fight against cancer on Thursday, March 17, 2011 with her loving family by her side. Ms. Gaston was born March 1, 1941 to Alvin E. and Emma (Rovang) Larson. She was born in Dalton, MN and was baptized at the Zion Lutheran Church in Dalton. She attended schools in Fergus Falls. She married
Richard Leabo on June 16, 1958 and later divorced. She married
again to Dennis Gaston on December 7, 1974 and later divorced. She began working at Mt. Carmel Medical Center in 1979 and retired in 2007 as Director of Central Supply. In 2008 she began working part-time in the Deli at Ron’s Supermarket and continued until she became ill. Marge was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church were she belonged to Comforters Making and WELCA, helped with VBS and helped with fundraising. She was also a member of TOPS # 0599. She enjoyed going to the casinos, puzzles, visiting family in Minnesota and spending time with her kids and grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, a sister Marilyn Johnson, a brother-in-law Don Johnson and nephew Ricky Don Johnson. Survivors include her four children; Denise (Bill) Darnaby, Todd Leabo, Don (Lorena) Leabo, and Renae (Terry) Jessip; 11 grandchildren, Andy Price, Jessica Pitts, Ashley Koroush, Craig and Cari Leabo, Kaitlin, Tucker and Emmalee Jessip, Shari Rice, Julie Kingsbury, and Melinda Thompson; 12 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Lorraine (George) Karch, Gene (Laureen) Larson, Elaine Johnson, Wes (Barb) Larson, Daryl (Jackie) Larson and brother-in-law Tom Johnson; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 23 at St. John’s Lutheran Church at 9:00 a.m. with services starting at 10:00 a.m with Pastor Tom Wehrman officiating. Ruth Manion
Ruth Manion, 95 of Arma died at 6:50 a.m. Tuesday May 24, 2011 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg. She was born February 28, 1916 in Roseland, KS the daughter of Lynus and Mary Ann (Pattinson) Morgan. She and her husband moved to Chicago in 1940 and then moved to Arma, KS in 1976. Ruth married
John T. Manion Sr. in October of 1939 in Frontenac, KS; he preceded her in death in 1997. Ruth was a homemaker, she enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting, and was an all around wonderful person. Throughout her life she endured difficult tasks but still managed to keep her nurturing/motherly personality even up until her final weeks. She will be greatly missed by her entire family. Survivors include her son John T. Manion and wife Linda of Arma; a daughter Mary Ann Blakemore of Pittsburg; Grandsons-William Blakemore, Ken Blakemore and wife Brandy, Scott Blakemore and wife Lori, Allen Blakemore and wife Dionne; Granddaughter Linda Brinkmeyer and husband Kurt; Great-grandchildren-Christina, Alisha, Jill, Devon, Madison, Chase, Ashley, Megan, Sapphire and Vivian; Great-great grandchildren Davis, Kylan and Alyssa. She was preceded death by her parents, husband, two brothers Edward and Matthew and a sister Hazel. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday May 27, 2011 at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac with Reverend Don Foster officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Olive Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home where friends may call after 1 p.m. Thursday. Susan Diann Wratchford
Susan Diann Wratchford, 52 of Farmersville, TX died on April 2, 2011 at the Medical Center of McKinney, TX. She was born July 3, 1958 in Pittsburg, KS the daughter of Lloyd and Ruby Mae (Elliott) Walker. She was of the Baptist Faith. Susan was employed as a WalMart Sales Associate for 12 years. Survivors include a daughter: Malinda Ann Estes of Cameron, MO, father Lloyd Walker of Farmerville, TX, three brothers: Gerald Wratchford of Nevada, TX, Tyler Dowling and Ward Dowling both of Farmersville, TX; three grandchildren: Derek, Tanner and Payton Estes. She was preceded in death by her mother Ruby Mae Walker. Graveside services will be 2 pm, Saturday, April 9, 2011 at the Garden of Memories cemetery with Rev. Sandy Stallings officiating. Betty Jane Gintner
Betty Jane Gintner, 80, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2011 at St. Johns Hospital in Joplin, MO. She was born May 28, 1931 to Glen Dewaine and Elizabeth Delores (Uhren) Clark. Betty attended school at Cockerille and Frontenac. On June 21, 1947 she was united in marriage to Lute Alfred Gintner. He survives. Betty spent her entire life in this area. She worked numerous years at her mother’s restaurant, Chicken Liz’s. Survivors include 1 son, Tim Gintner and a daughter, Mary Warrick and husband Johnny, both of Pittsburg. 5 grandchildren; Kristy Sailors of Paola, KS. Terri Gintner of Harrison, MO; Ashton, Libby, and Luten Warrick of Pittsburg. 1 great-granddaughter, Carlie Pichler; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents. 2 brothers, Glen Lee Clark and James Wayne Clark. Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 18 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac with Father Thomas Stroot as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel cemetery in Frontenac. The parish rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Sunday at Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac where the family will receive friends following the rosary until 8 p.m. Friends may call the funeral home after 2 p.m. Sunday. Juanita Meyer
Juanita Meyer, 89, of Pittsburg, died July 17, 2011 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg. She was born September 6, 1921 in Neodesha, KS and came to Pittsburg at the age of three. She graduated from P.H.S. with the class of 1938. On February 6, 1940 she was united in marriage to Frank “Joe” Meyer. He preceded her in death July 13, 1995. She lived in rural Pittsburg for many years and also lived in Barton County, MO for 45 years. In 1995 she moved to the Knights of Columbus Towers. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and the Altar Society since 1940. There are no immediate survivors. Wanda Cob of Overland Park, KS, Norma Vanbecelaere of Pittsburg and Ken Burback of Pittsburg are friends that helped provide for her care. She was preceded in death by her husband and a son Robert W. Meyer in 1958. Graveside services will be 10:30 am Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at the Committal Shelter in Highland Park Cemetery, burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Friends are requested to meet at the cemetery for the services. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Fund; these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
