Alice Jewel Peak Pinamonti Verga
Alice Jewel Peak Pinamonti Verga, 83, of Frontenac died at 7:35 a.m. Wednesday July 20, 2011 at her home in Frontenac surrounded by her family. She was born August 25, 1927 in Ringo, KS the daughter of Clarence and Alma (Dykes) Peak. She was a 1945 graduate of Cherokee High School. During her life she lived in the Pittsburg/Chicopee/Kirkwood areas. She moved to Frontenac in 1947 where she has lived since. Alice married
William Pinamonti on October 3, 1946 in Chicopee, KS; he preceded her in death on July 24, 1971. She them married
Alex Verga on December 22, 1973 in Miami, OK; he preceded her in death on February 13, 1988. She worked as an office secretary/manager for Cremer Monument Company retiring in 1995. She began working for Friskel Funeral Home in 1996 and remained working until 2010 and had to retire due to health reasons. Alice was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac, a 60 year member of the Frontenac American Legion Auxiliary Post #43 where she served as past president and secretary, the AARP Association Chapter 2814, the Sacred Heart Altar Society and a former member of the Frontenac Eagles Auxiliary. Survivors include a daughter Carlotta Geisler and husband George of Frontenac; a son William Pinamonti Jr. and wife Christine of Rapid City, SD; a brother Bryan Peak of Paola, KS, a sister Maxine Anderson of Frontenac; three grandchildren Nicholas Pinamonti, Krista Geisler (Amershek) and husband Steve, Ryan Geisler and Kylie Parsons several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands and a brother Eli Peak. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday July 23, 2011 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac with Father Thomas Stroot as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. The parish rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Friday at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac where the family will receive friends following the rosary until 8 p.m. Friends may call the funeral home after noon on Friday. Jennie K. Corvi
Jennie K. Corvi, 85, of Frontenac, KS passed away Saturday, July 30, 2011 at the Sunset Manor in Frontenac. She was born May, 24, 1926 in Mulberry, KS the daughter of Joseph and Jennie (Grill) Zupon. She married
Charles B. Corvi on May 26, 1952 in Michigan. He preceded her in death January 23, 2010. Jennie and her family lived in Michigan for 44 years; they moved to Las Vegas where they lived for 15 years; moving back to the SEK area in 2008. Jennie and her husband enjoyed polka dancing and traveling; and was of the Catholic Faith. Survivors include 1 brother, Jack Verga of Arma, KS and 1 sister, Betty Louise Karlinger of Kansas City. She was preceded in death by her daughter Jennie Marie Corvi in 1975, her husband, parents and one brother, Joy Zupon. Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at the Mount Carmel cemetery in Frontenac with Father Tom Stroot officiating. Family and friends are requested to meet at the cemetery. Friends may call the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Tuesday to sign the register book and 9 A.M. until service time Wednesday. Agnes “Geneva” Fox
Agnes “Geneva” Fox, 86, of Girard died at 2:50 a.m. Tuesday August 2, 2011 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg. She was born December 18, 1924 in Farlington, KS the daughter of Edward and Grace (Jones) Threlfall. She grew up in Farlington and moved to Girard in 1942 and has remained in Girard since. Geneva married
Henry L. “Jack” Fox on September 10, 1942 in Girard, KS; he preceded her in death on May 9, 1994. She was a homemaker but also worked for FMI Printing and Heritage Nursing Home in Girard. Survivors include a daughter Cheryl Fields of Girard; two sons Steve Fox and wife Luella and Gary Fox and wife Diana all of Girard; a granddaughter Julie Armstrong and husband Chad of Andover, KS; two Great-grandchildren Logan and Meghan Armstrong both of Andover; nephews “Corky” Kenneth Threlfall, Terry and Jerry Threlfall a niece Sharon Ausemus and several great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother Kenneth Threlfall, a sister Mildred Threlfall and a son-in-law Howard Fields. Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Friday August 5, 2011 at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac with Reverend Dan Muter officiating. Burial will follow in the Girard City Cemetery. Wilbert H. “Bud” Parkison
Wilbert H. “Bud” Parkison of Frontenac, Kansas, died August 2, 2011 at KU Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas. Bud was born in Oswego, KS on December 21, 1932. The son of Louie “Ted” Parkison and Mildred Horn, Bud graduated from Oswego High School in 1950. Drafted by the Army in 1953, Bud attended leadership training at the Engineer Officer Candidate School in Ft. Bellvoire, VA. Upon graduation, Bud was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant and served with the Army Corp of Engineers 89th Port Construction Company in Rochefort, France. After his military service, Bud attended Kansas State Teacher’s College (now Pittsburg State University ) and earned a degree in Industrial Education in 1960. He worked in Design Engineering on the Apollo-Saturn V Rocket program, A7 Corsair and C5 Galaxy aircraft programs. In 1971, he became an instructor in drafting and mathematics for the Sabine Valley Vocational Technical School in Many, LA. In 1976, Bud was awarded Louisiana ’s inaugural Outstanding Vocational Instructor of the Year. In 1977, he became a Curriculum Specialist in Vocational Education for the State of Louisiana. After retiring from the State of Louisiana, Bud worked as a technical writer for a number of major firms. Upon retirement, Bud and his wife Loretta, relocated to Frontenac where he was active in Frontenac’s American Post #43. Bud married
Marguerite Loretta Fox on August 13, 1960, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Walnut, KS and she survives at the home. Bud in further survived by his daughter, Lisa Parkison of Tulsa, OK, son Mark and daughter-in-law Jennifer Parkison of Weatherford, TX and six grandchildren: Herb Hatlee, Jr. of Jonesboro, GA; Mark Hatlee of Griffin, GA and Madeleine, Maria, Matthew, and Michelle Parkison of Weatherford, TX. He is survived by a sister, Dorothy Boggess of Oswego, KS and brothers-in-law Rollie Burr of Canyon Lake, TX, and Bill Osborne of Tulsa, OK. He is survived by his Fox in-laws: Frank and Frances Fox of St. Paul, KS, Barbara and Bernard Vitt of Tulsa, OK, Pat Fox of Walnut, KS, Mary Lou and Don Murray of Pittsburg, KS, Frances Eaton of Seneca, KS, Sharon Wineinger of Raleigh, NC, Linda and Bill Purdon of Bentonville, AR, Tina and Ed Backhus of Sarasota, FL and John and Anita Fox of Girard, KS. Uncle Bud will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews. Bud was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Ted Parkison, Jr., his sister Irene Schadel, Jane Osborne, and Kay Burr and in-laws Michael Fox and LaDonna Marsh. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday August 6, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac, KS with Father Thomas Stroot as celebrant. Burial will be follow in the Mount Carmel cemetery in Frontenac where the John F. Derby American Legion Post #43 will provide flag folding and presentation ceremonies, nephew Adam Smith will play “Taps”. The parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac where the family will receive friends following. The American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary will have the processional walk-through at 6:45 p.m. Friday at the funeral home prior to the rosary. Marilyn S. Cox
Marilyn S. Cox, 74, of Mindenmines, MO died 4:45pm Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at Golden Living Center in Pittsburg, KS following an illness. Marilyn was born March 18, 1937 in Pittsburg, KS the daughter of George Radell and Lola E. ( Greenwood ) Radell. She was a lifelong resident of the area and attended area schools. Henry F. Cox in North Carolina; he preceded her in death on September 27, 2002. Graveside Memorial Services will be 1:30pm Wednesday August 24, 2011 at the Fort Scott National cemetery in Ft. Scott, KS. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for services. In lieu of flowers the family ask expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to the American Cancer Society. Walter Lee Marlier
Walter Lee Marlier, 84, of Frontenac, died at 11:31 am on Sunday, August 28, 2011 at the Via Christi Hospital Pittsburg. He was born October 21, 1926 in Hartshorn, OK the son of Tom and Pearlie (Fennell) Marlier. On June 16, 1951 he was united in marriage to Julia A. Nolimal, she preceded him in death on March 25, 2010. Walt served in the U.S. Army from January 1945 to November 1946 when hewas honorably discharge with the rank of Cpl, T5. He worked for Pepsi Cola Bottling Company in Pittsburg in beer delivery and sales for 34+ years. He was a longtime member of the John F. Derby American Legion Post #43 in Frontenac. Survivors include a son Mike Marlier and his wife Wendy Frontenac, daughter Leann Marlier also of Frontenac, three grandchildren Jessica(Jeff) Olson, Brett Marlier, Kelsy Marlier and a great-grandson Brock Olson to be born soon. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother Don Marlier and a grandson Aaron Marlier. Graveside services will be 10 am, Thursday, Sept 1, 2011at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Burial will follow. Family and friends are requested to meet at the Friskel Funeral Home and follow in the procession to the cemetery. The procession will leave the funeral home at 9:45 am. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-8pm Wednesday evening. The John F. Derby American Legion Post #43 will provide flag folding rites at the graveside. Mary Linda Townsend
Mary Linda Townsend, 58, of Franklin, KS died 4:39am Sunday September 18, 2011 at her home following an illness. Mary was born July 22, 1953 in Pittsburg, KS the daughter of George Washington Townsend and Sara Jane Barklow Townsend. She graduated from Pittsburg High School and received her Nursing Degree at Ft. Scott Community College. She worked for years as a Certified Nurses Aide and later worked as a Registered Nurse for several area nursing homes. She retired from the Heritage Nursing Home in March of this year. Mary recently made a personal dedication to Jehovah God as one of his witnesses. Survivors include a daughter Christy Swor and a son Chad Townsend both of Franklin, KS; four grandchildren; brothers George L. Townsend and Donald Townsend; sisters Janet Townsend, Kay Bough and Donna Hawkins. She was preceded in death by her parents and a great-grandson. Memorial Services will be 2pm Saturday September 24, 2011 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses 4005 N. Broadway Pittsburg, KS 66762 with Howard Hawkins officiating. Nancy J. Onelio
Nancy J. Onelio, 73, of Lawrence, KS passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2011 in Lawrence. Nancy was born on April 28, 1938 in Pittsburg, KS to William and Kathleen (Patton) Menghini. She graduated high school from Frontenac. After graduating High School she went on to get her Bachelor's degree in Library Science at Pitt State University. In 1960 she married
Paul Bernard Onelio at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac. They later divorced. He survives. Nancy worked at the Minor State Bank for several years before teaching school in Springdale, Arkansas. After teaching she went to work for Bank of America in Kansas City. Survivors include her daughter, Cynthia Edmondson of Lawrence; 2 grandchildren Anthony and Natalie Edmondson of Lawrence. 1 sister, Jane Kelly of Pittsburg. 1 Nephew, Justin Kelly of Pittsburg and 1 niece, Jonna Kelly of Newton, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents. Private family graveside services will be at a later date. Mary Kathryn (Kilger) Dudgeon
Mary Kathryn (Kilger) Dudgeon, 89, Overland Park, Kansas, died on September 25, 2011. Mary Kay was born in Weir City, Kansas, moving to Mindenmines, Missouri then to Frontenac, Kansas. She was married
to Morris Dudgeon who preceded her in death. She lived most of her life in Pittsburg, Kansas where she settled after serving as a Navy nurse during World War II. She enjoyed a long career in nursing, both teaching and working as a traveling nurse. She is survived by her two daughters, Maureen and Carol, their husbands, Bradd Silver and Richard Ploetz and her grandchildren, Mark and Jeff Silver and Kathryn Ploetz. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Johanna Kilger and her sister, Johanna Vediz. Mass of Christian burial will be 11am, Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Thomas Stroot Officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Park cemetery in Pittsburg. Winferd E. “Lefty” Hamm
Winferd E. “Lefty” Hamm, 86, of Frontenac died at 2:36 p.m. Friday October 14, 2011 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg. He was born February 11, 1925 in Lockwood, MO the son of Abner and Belva Florence (Lemaster) Hamm. He had been a resident of Frontenac since 1992. Lefty received his BA from Kansas State Teachers College in 1953 and then received his MA in Administration from Kansas State Teachers College in 1963. He was a veteran of WWII serving his country in the United States Coast Guard for three years in the North Atlantic on a submarine chaser. Lefty married
Frances L. Eastwood on June 2, 1957 in Pittsburg; she survives at the home. He was a teacher and school administrator working from 1953 until 1990. He started his teaching career in 1953 at Arma where he taught and served as assistant football, and track coach and was the head basketball coach; he stayed in Arma until 1970 at which time he moved on to Altoona Midway where he was school administrator until 1986; from 1986 until 1987 he worked in Topeka for the Adult Education Program, in 1987 he moved to South Lyon County School District where he remained until his retirement in 1990. Lefty was a member of the Frontenac United Methodist Church, the Frontenac America Legion, the Crawford County Retired Administrators and the Frontenacr’s Coffee Drinkers. Survivors include his wife Frances of the home; a son Bruce Hamm of Lawrenceville, GA; a brother Jerry Hamm of Coffeyville; three sisters Carolyn Oertle of Pittsburg, Reba Hastings of Pittsburg, Alice Holland of Arkansas City; two grandchildren Amanda and Taylor John Hamm, several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son John Hamm in 1982 and a brother Robert Hamm. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday October 18, 2011 at the Frontenac United Methodist Church with Reverend Dennis Paschke and Reverend Verl Strong officiating. Burial will follow in the Frontenac City cemetery where the Frontenac American Legion will provide flag folding and presentation ceremonies. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac where friends may call after 4 p.m. Monday. The casket will remain closed at all times.
