Eva Marie Flora
Eva Marie Flora, 74, of Pittsburg, KS went to be with her Lord and Savior at 9:45 pm, Friday, April 20, 2012 at Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Frontenac, KS. She had lived with her daughter for the last 12 years until three weeks ago when her failing health required specialized care. She was born June 10, 1937 in Lowry City, MO the daughter of Ora and Minnie (Smith) Roberts. On June 17, 1954 she was united in marriage to Roy Lee Flora in Ft. Scott, KS; he preceded her in death on December 5, 2000. Eva was first and foremost a homemaker, raising four children and making the house a home, but she also worked at Veltri’s as a waitress, Jim and Mary’s Grocery, sold Avon and Mary Kay products and was the office manager at Steamatic for more than 20 years. She was a member of the Countryside Christian Church for many years and was a Pink Lady Volunteer at Mt. Carmel Hospital. Survivors include a daughter: Loreta “Reta” and husband Dwayne Windsor of Chicopee, KS; three sons: Carl and wife Kathy Flora of Frontenac, Tim Flora and Fiancé Becky Morey of Frontenac and Randy and wife Kathy Flora also of Frontenac; a brother Bode (Sharon) Roberts of Arma, KS, a sister-in-law Betty Roberts of Overland Park, KS; Grandchildren: Keturah (Steve) Tarantino, Dalton (Traci) Windsor, Hannah, Ashley and Jared Flora, Tiffany, Katy, Bailey and Dylan Flora; great grandchildren: Macy and Evan Kotzman, Drew, Brady and Isabella Windsor. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a grandson Zeb Flora, a sister Hilda Payne, a brother Harold Roberts and two nephews Charlie and Danny Payne. Funeral services will be 11 am, Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac with her grandson Pastor Dalton Windsor officiating. Burial will follow at the National cemetery in Ft. Scott, KS. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 am Tuesday until service time. Memorials may be made to the Verdella Freewill Baptist Church; these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home. Services are under the direction of the Friskel Funeral Home 230 E. McKay, Frontenac, KS 66763.

Eleanor Mary (Price) Florio
Eleanor Mary (Price) Florio, 91 of Frontenac, KS died at 8:20 pm, May 15, 2012 at Via Christi Hospital Pittsburg following a long illness. She was born December 24, 1920 in Scammon, KS the daughter of Patrick T. and Nora (Duval) Price. She was married to R.J. Harmon, he was killed in WWII, she later married Ralph Florio on May 14, 1949 in Scammon; he preceded her in death on August 20, 1968. Eleanor was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 43 in Frontenac. She was the manager of the ticket office at PSU for many years. Survivors include two daughters: Beverly Florio of Frontenac, Barbara (Harmon) Davis and husband W.W. of Dubai, United Arab Emirates; a sister June Naccarato of Mesa, AZ, a granddaughter Tiffany (Davis) Verginis and husband Costas, a great grandson Alexi Verginis all of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son Ralph Edward Florio, Jr., a granddaughter Heather Davis, two sisters: Kathryn Comeau and Joan Robinson, and a brother J.D. Price. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am, Saturday May 19, 2012 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Thomas Stroot as Celebrant. Family will receive friends at the church from 9:30 am until the rosary begins at 10:10 am. Memorials may be made to Angels Among Us or the Donors Choice; these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home. Services and arrangements are under the direction of the Friskel Funeral Home 230 E. Freddie Lee
Freddie Lee, 86 of Mindenmines, MO died at 5 p.m. Thursday May 17, 2012 at the Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Frontenac. He was born April 19, 1926 in Coward, SC the son of Oscar and Bertie (Matthews) Lee. He has been a resident of the SEK area since 1949 moving here with his family from Newport Beach, CA. They initially moved to and lived in Pittsburg and then he and his family moved to Mindenmines in 1968. Freddie was a veteran of WWII serving his country in the US Navy as a Gunners Mate 3rd Class from April 1944 until May of 1946. He married Helen Pollock on January 18, 1946 in Newport Beach, CA: she preceded him in death on February 17, 2006. Freddie worked since 1968 as the electrician for the City of Mindenmines retiring in 1990; prior to that he worked for 20 years in the foundry at McNally’s Manufacturing in Pittsburg. He was a member of the Free Holiness Church in Pittsburg; and also had served as past mayor for the City of Mindenmines. Freddie enjoyed fishing and being outdoors. His greatest passion in life was his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include a daughter Cindy Loy and husband Kurt of Pittsburg; 2 sons Fred (Rusty) Lee and wife Linda of Frontenac, Steve Lee of Frontenac; 2 sisters Aubrey of South Carolina and Josephine of Florida; 7 Grandchildren and 11 Great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Helen; 1 sister Annie and a brother Harold. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday May 21st at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac with Reverend Mike Shelton officiating. Burial will follow in the Rosebank cemetery in Mulberry. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time on Monday. Friends may call after 9 a.m. on Monday. Tammy Joann (Amershek) Edge
Tammy Joann (Amershek) Edge, 51, passed away Sunday morning, May 20, 2012 at her home in Frontenac, KS following a sudden illness. She was born March 27, 1961, in Amesbury, Massachusetts, to Tom and Bonnie (Ross) Amershek. She attended Frank Layden Elementary School and Frontenac High School and graduated in 1979. On September 15, 1984, she married Scott Edge at Timmons Chapel at Pittsburg State University; he survives at the home. She worked at FMI in Girard, Kansas. She then stayed at home to raise her children, and she cared for many of her nieces and nephews, as well as other area children. In 1997, she began working for the City of Pittsburg as a receptionist in the Parks and Recreation Department. She then went to work for the Public Works Department as an administrative assistant and moved to a nuisance code inspector. She transferred to her current job in the Parks and Recreation Department in 2003 as the Office Manager. She considered this job her dream job because she got to work with people and organize activities. She is survived by three sons, Brandon Edge, Frontenac, KS, Nicholas Edge, Frontenac, KS and Ross Edge, of the home. She is also survived by her beloved Poodle, Annie. Additional survivors include her parents, Tom and Bonnie Amershek, Frontenac, KS and three brothers, Tom (Toppy) Amershek (Debbie), Arma, KS, Tim Amershek (Amy), and Todd Amershek (Lisa), both of Frontenac, KS, and one sister, Terri Amershek, Frontenac, KS., as well as ten nephews and nieces, Steve Amershek (Krista), Shawnee, KS, Julie Shaffer (Paden), Croweburg, KS, Justin Amershek, Katie Amershek, Rachel Amershek, Lukas Amershek, Claire Amershek, all of Frontenac, KS, Ryan Edge, Dallas, TX, Jason Edge, Frontenac, KS, and Justin Edge, Pittsburg, KS. Additional survivors include her father-in-law, Harley Edge, Pittsburg, KS and she was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Carol Edge, and a nephew, Josh Edge. She was an avid sports enthusiast, still holding the Frontenac High School women’s discuss record. She also participated in coed softball and bowling leagues for many years. She was a proud supporter of Frontenac athletics. She attended all school and sporting events for her children. She loved to play golf with her husband, children, family and friends. She enjoyed camping and cookouts with family and friends. She was a cheerleader and pep club sponsor at Frontenac High School. She will be sadly missed by all those who knew her. Funeral Services will be 10am Thursday May 24, 2012 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac, KS with Fr. Thomas Stroot officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Carmel cemetery in Frontenac, KS. Family will receive friends from 7-8pm Wednesday May 23, 2012 with Liturgical Services starting at 7pm. Friends may call after 4pm Wednesday. In lieu of flowers the family ask expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to the Tammy Edge Memorial Fund. Friends may drop off or mail memorials to the Friskel Funeral Home 230 E. Ann Marie Grant
Ann Marie Grant, 93 of Frontenac, KS died at 2:12 pm, Tuesday, May 30, 2012 at Sunset Manor. She was born April 11, 1919 in Frontenac the daughter of John and Lena (Haderlein) Krusich. On June 30, 1942 she was united in marriage to Bernard Grant at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac; he preceded her in death on October 28, 1985. Ann was a homemaker and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Survivors include three sons: Bernie Grant of Wichita, KS, Gary and wife Donna Grant of Bloomington, IL and Pat and wife Lynn Grant of Frontenac; seven grandchildren: Todd Grant and Philip Grant, Lindsay (Marc) O’Neal, Alissa Grant, Megan (Tom) Basore, Danny Grant and Nick Grant; great-grandchildren: Ryan O’Neal, Tyler O’Neal, Hannah Basore and Grant Basore. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers: Bud and George Krusich; three sisters: Agnes Bartelli, Mary Bulot and Margaret Morrison. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am, Monday, June 4, 2012 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Thomas Stroot as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 pm on Sunday where the rosary will be recited at 7pm. Friends may call at the funeral home after 12 noon on Sunday. Memorials may be made to Harry Hynes Hospice and/or Wounded Warriors; these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home. Services by Friskel Funeral Home 230 E. McKay Frontenac, KS 66763.

George Steven Trout
George Steven Trout, 60 of Arma, KS died at 6 am Friday, June 15, 2012 at Via Christi Hospital Pittsburg. He was born September 29, 1951 in Girard, KS the son of George Arthur and Wilma (Russell) Trout. He served in the U.S. Army. George worked as a truck driver for Red Giant Oil Company for many years, he also worked for Leroy Watts as a farm hand and Dugan’s Welding. He was a member of the NRA. Survivors include a son Thomas and wife Tesha Trout of Germany, three daughters Veronica and husband Eric Winklepleck of Pittsburg, KS, Amber Trout of Liberal, MO, Jessica and husband George Townsand of Pittsburg; Parents of Liberal, MO, four sisters: Belinda (Ralph) Ghumm of Jasper, MO, Tina (Frank) Cheney of Carl Junction, MO, Kim (Darrell) Spurling of Liberal, MO and Rebecca (William) Wheeler of Liberal, MO; a brother Dennis (Brenda) Trout of Mindenmines, MO, Grandmother Helen Dumm of Girard, KS, 14 grandchildren and 10 Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by a son Phillip Steven Trout, Niece Ashley Wheeler and a nephew Jody Ghumm. Funeral services will be 2 pm, Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac with Rev. Don Wymore officiating. Burial will follow at the Farlington Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-7 pm, Monday. Memorial may be made to the American Heart Association, these may left at or mailed to the funeral home. Beatriss I. Vanderbilt
Beatriss I. Vanderbilt, 88 of Girard, Kansas passed away Friday, June 29, 2012 at Girard Medical Center. She was born February 20, 1924 in Neosho, Missouri, the daughter of Grover and Linda (Arnold) Brodie. Beatriss married Clarence Vanderbilt January 20, 1945 in Neosho. He preceded her in death in 1971. She held life-time memberships in the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Girard. Survivors include one sister: Dorothy Mae Daughty of Neosho; Four brothers: John H. Brodie of Kansas City, Missouri, Jack Brodie of Neosho, LeRoy Brodie of Seneca, Missouri and James Brodie of San Juan, Texas; 2 step-grandchildren: Dennis Larson of Oxford, Wisconsin and Monty Wells of Joplin, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 brothers, 3 sisters and one step-grandchild. Funeral Services will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, July 2, 2012 at Friskel Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Wenzelburger officiating. Burial will take place at Oakwood cemetery in Neosho, Missouri at 2:00 P.M., Monday, July 2, 2012. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until service time Monday. Mary “Marie” Elizabeth Cerne
Mary “Marie” Elizabeth Cerne, 91, of Frontenac, Kansas passed away at 1:54 P.M., Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg. Marie was born May 30, 1921 at Camp 13, in Yale Kansas, to Charles and Mary (Kozuk) Lenassi. She graduated from Cockerill High School in 1938. On September 5, 1942 she married Harry E. Cerne in Waynesville, Missouri. After WWII, Harry and Marie owned and operated Harry’s Café in Arma, Kansas until the mid - 1950’s. Marie then became a homemaker. Harry preceded her in death July 17, 2010. Marie was an avid cook and baker. Her Slovenian dishes were well-known and much enjoyed by family and friends. She also cared for her beautiful flower gardens. Marie was a member at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac. She also belonged to the SNPJ Lodge #225. In 2008, Marie became a 70 year member of SNPJ. Marie is survived by her daughter, Kathleen M. Cerne of Frontenac and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Carl J. Lenassi and son Harold C. Cerne. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 A.M., Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Tom Stroot as Celebrant. The family will receive friends from 7-8pm on Friday, July 27 at Friskel Funeral Home, where the Rosary will be recited at 7:00pm. Memorials may be made in the form to Muscular Dystrophy Association. Memorials may be dropped off or mailed to 230 E. McKay Street, Frontenac, Kansas 66763. Arrangements are under the direction of Friskel Funeral Home.

John Joseph Spigarelli
John Joseph Spigarelli, 90 of Frontenac, Kansas passed away early Saturday, September 8, 2012 at his home. He was born April 18, 1922 in Frontenac, the son of Nazareno and Elisa (Bartelli) Spigarelli. John graduated from Frontenac High School in 1940. He attended Ark City Jr. College after High School and after Jr. College, he served in the US Army March 24, 1943 as a Tech 5 Demolition Specialist in France and Germany with the 220th Battalion of the 20th armored division. He was honorably discharged February 3, 1946. After serving in the Army he attended Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas, graduating in 1948. On March 24, 1947 John married Josephine Caruso at St. Alice Church in Capaldo, Kansas by Father Agatha. She survives of the home. Together they had two children. Son Michael Spigarelli, he preceded him in death May 31, 1999, and one daughter, Jeanne Spigarelli Cohorst. John and Josephine celebrated their 65th anniversary in May, 2012. John had a career of 32 total years of teaching and coaching. He spent one year at St. Pats High School in Parsons, 16 years at Frontenac High School and 15 years at Girard High School. He retired in 1984. John held memberships with the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac, the American Legion Post 43, VFW Post 1158, and the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union #441. After retirement his loves were his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, fishing, gardening, and dancing. He and his friend Glen Watt fished all year round. Cold weather didn’t bother them. He would go to Canada with friends on an annual fishing trip every spring for several years. He started off with a small garden but in time became a large garden with many varieties of vegetables. He was very proud of his tomatoes and was known for his pickled peppers. John also loved to dance. He and Josephine spent many hours on the dance floor. Survivors include his wife Josephine (Pep) Spigarelli, a daughter Jeanne Spigarelli Cohorst; daughter-in-law Katharine Spigarelli; five grandchildren: Jeffery and Gina Spigarelli(mother Barbara Spigarelli), John Cohorst, Mia Cohorst Payne and husband Jim, and Drew Cohorst; two great-grandchildren: Emily Payne and Jace Payne; a step-sister Juliane Bartelli and several nieces, nephews and a loyal companion Conchetta. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Michael Spigarelli, five brothers: Joe, Levio, Rinaldo, Dino and Adolph Spigarelli, step-father Joe Fiorucci and step-brother Paul Fiorucci. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Thomas Stroot as Celebrant. Burial will follow at the Frontenac City Cemetery. Parish rosary will be recited at 6 pm, Tuesday at Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac where the family will receive friends following the rosary until 8pm. Memorials may be made to the PSU Foundation (Mike Spigarelli Scholarship Fund), SEK Humane Society and/or the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Memorials may be dropped off or mailed to the Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Friskel Funeral Home 230 E. McKay, Frontenac, Kansas 66763.
