Carl Leroy Short
Carl Leroy Short, 53, of Frontenac died at 3:03 p.m. Sunday April 21, 2013 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg. He was born August 24, 1959 in Pittsburg, KS the son of Bob and Nancy Short. He lived his entire life in the Frontenac area. Leroy was a 1977 graduate of Pittsburg High School. He married
Betty Yaeger of Chicopee in June of 1978. Leroy was a Sales Rep. working for Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation. Survivors include a daughter Audrey Green of Pittsburg, 3 grandchildren whom he adored, Hannah, Ramone and Rashaad and an unborn grandson Carl Leroy; 3 sisters Natalie Short, Terri Short and Lisa Smith all of Pittsburg. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Toni Sweezey. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday April 26, 2013 at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac with Reverend Dennis Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Frontenac City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home where friends may call after noon Thursday. Ruby Mae Myers
Ruby Mae Myers, 94, of Pittsburg, KS passed away at 5:48 p.m. Sunday May 5th 2013 at the Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, MO following a fall at home. Ruby was born April 27, 1919 in Arcadia, KS the daughter of Joe and Mae (Jenkins) Schaub. She attended Arcadia schools and worked for the Arcadia post office. Ruby married
Clifford Ueal Myers on September 3, 1938 in Arcadia, KS. He preceded her in death on May 6th 1993. They resided in Pittsburg since 1944. Ruby was a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother & great-grandmother who loved spending time with the grandkids. They always knew they could find a treat at Grandy’s. She loved dancing with her husband of 54 years, playing pinochle, delivering Frontenac meals-on-wheels, going to the bowling alley & holding her precious great-grandbabies. Ruby was well known for her great cooking & delicious pies. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include her daughter Uealene Pingree, granddaughters Kim Martin and husband Jason of Cherryvale, KS; Pam Clemensen and husband Jason of Pittsburg; daughter-in-law Billie Myers of Emporia, KS; granddaughter Paula Myers of Leavenworth, KS, grandson Brian and wife Carrie Myers of Louisburg, KS; Great-grand kids Tanner, Teagan and Trey Myers, Allee and Sami Martin, Cameron Peak and Landon and Easton Clemensen; several nieces and nephews. She was blessed to have Georgia Longstreth of Fredericksburg, TX as a very best friend. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Rita Mae Myers, son Joe Myers, brothers Bud and Lester Schaub, a sister Elva Elliott and a son-in-law Gary Pingree. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday May 9, 2013 at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac with Pastor Blair Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time on Thursday. The casket will remain closed at all times. Leona (Busse) Crockett
Leona (Busse) Crockett, 87, of Arma died at 5:40 p.m. Friday May 10, 2013 at the ArmaCare Center. She was born on May 25, 1925 in Chicopee, KS the daughter of John and Della (Callaway) Busse. She lived her early years at Camp 50. She was a 1942 graduate of ArmaHigh School. Leona married
Marvin Moyer on May 30, 1942; they moved to Albany, OR and lived in various places due to Marvin’s job. Marvin passed away February 24, 1968 in Albany, OR. She married
Thomas Crockett on July 16, 1988 in Reno, NV; he passed away on September 23, 1998. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Girard. She retired as receptionist in April 1988 from the Crawford County Health Department. Leona loved cooking, gardening, camping and traveling with her family. Survivors include three daughters Diana Moyer and Michele Golob of Arma, KS, Carol Pfeiffer of Victoria, KS; a son Marty Moyer of Lyndon, KS; a brother James Busse of Oregon; 2 sisters both of Arma; 8 Grandchildren, 13 Great-grandchildren, 4 Step-grandchildren and 4 Step Great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters Irene Jeler, Mary Brees, Mildred Busse; 2 brothers John and Joe Busse; an infant son Harold Lloyd Moyer and a grandson Alan Polcyn. Private family services and viewing will be at a later date. Burial will also be at a later date in the Rosebank cemetery in Mulberry. Virginia Mae Ellis
Virginia Mae Ellis, 87, of Frontenac died at 9:55 a.m. Saturday May 25, 2013 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg. She was born June 29, 1925 in Pittsburg, KS the daughter of Floyd Sr. and Gladys (Davidson) Ellis. She was a graduate of Frontenac High Schools; she lived in the Crawford County area her entire life. She enjoyed helping her mother and brother on the farm. Virginia was of the Methodist Faith. Survivors include her brother James Ellis of the home. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Gladys Cantrell. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday May 29th at the Frontenac City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac, where friends may call the funeral home after noon on Tuesday. Terrence (Terry) Davis
Terrence (Terry) Davis, 75, of Bartlesville, OK formerly of Frontenac, KS died at 7:27 p.m. June 4, 2013 at his home in Bartlesville. He was born July 13, 1937 in Pittsburg, KS the son of Clifford and Euphemia (Monahan) Davis. Terry attended Sacred Heart Elementary School; was a 1955 graduate of Frontenac High School and then in 1960 received his Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering from Kansas University. Terry moved to Bartlesville and began working for Phillips Petroleum in 1960, in the mid 1970’s was sent by his employer to live and work in England. He returned to Bartlesville five years later and continued working for Phillips Petroleum until his retirement. He was a computer programmer for Phillips Petroleum and he worked for them his entire working history. He was active in the United Sates Army for a brief time in the 1960’s. Terry was of the Catholic Faith and when living in Frontenac in his earlier years attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church. While living in Bartlesville he volunteered for the SPCA. Terry enjoyed classical music and was an accomplished pianist. Survivors include a sister Nora Spigarelli of Raytown, MO; a nephew Mark Spigarelli and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and a niece Jane Spigarelli. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday June 10th at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac with Father Thomas Stroot as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Mount Carmel Cemetery. The parish rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac where friends may call after 10 a.m. Sunday. Tommy Naccarato
Tommy Naccarato, 85, of Frontenac, KS, died at 6:55 pm, Friday, June 14, 2013, at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, KS. He was born March 18, 1928 in Capaldo, KS the son of Frank and Mary (Merando) Naccarato. On June 19, 1948, he was united in marriage to Margaret Dee "Margie" Farmer in Girard, KS; She preceded him in death on March 13, 2006. Tommy worked as a baker for AJ Cripes Bakery for many years. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac. Tommy enjoyed his family, fishing trips to Canada with his son and friends, sitting on his deck watching birds and afternoon coffee with family. He was a man who believed in the power of love and showed it his whole life by helping anyone who needed help. He taught his children by the example of his daily life. Survivors include a son Frank Naccarato of Frontenac; two daughters: Kathie Emerson of Pittsburg and Karen Pace of Frontenac; a sister Frances Torchia of Kansas City, MO, seven grandchildren: Cory Zacarello, Lindi Burns, Kimberly Anderson, Holly Rockers, Faith Naccarato, Rami Afshar and Leighla Afshar; and eight great-grandchildren: Brett, Hadyn, Random, Cale, Tanner, Kade, Jack, and Reese. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a brother Jim Naccarato. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10am, Monday, June 17, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac with Fr. Thomas Stroot as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Parish rosary will be recited at 7pm Sunday at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac. Family will receive friends from 6:30 pm until the rosary and then again following the rosary. Memorials may be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and/or the American Arthritis Foundation; these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home. Theresa Fox
Theresa Fox, 85, of Frontenac, died at 1:33 a.m., Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg. She was born December 11, 1927, the daughter of John and Rosa (Ghigelletti) Costantino. In 1945 she married
Edward A. Gepford; they later divorced. She remarried William Harold Fox on June 15, 1968 in Frontenac; he preceded her in death in 1992. Theresa was a waitress for many years; she worked at the Tower, Argentina's, Veltres, and her sister's restaurant The Casa Nova. She was one of Jehovah's Witnesses and the Matriarch of the Family. She loved tap dancing and danced for the Johnny Lee Wells Band and Fox Theater, and also many of the other local venues. Survivors include 2 sons: Eddie (Debra) Gepford of Frontenac, Dan (Deitre) Gepford, Sr. of Frontenac, and Steve (Shirley) Gepford of Pittsburg, and Tina Gepford Vanderpool, a sister to her sons who Theresa always loved as her own daughter, a special niece Theresa Ann Hudson, special nephews Ray Edwards and Eddie Edwards, along with 7 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, a sister, Margherita Edwards, a nephew John Edwards, and a grandson Judd Gossett. Services will beat 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac, with Merle Lair Officiating. Burial will follow in the Beulah Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. Tuesday until service time. Memorials may be left at the funeral home to help with final expenses. Allen G. Bruenjes
Allen G. Bruenjes, 77, of Frontenac died at 4:58 p.m. Wednesday June 19, 2013 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg. He was born July 18, 1935 in Girard, KS the son of John F. and Anna M. (Bowinkle) Bruenjes. Allen was a graduate of Girard High School and attended Kansas State Teachers College (PSU). He lived in the Girard area until moving to Frontenac following his High School graduation; he has been a resident of Frontenac since. Allen was a Korean War Veteran serving his county in the United State Air Force from 1957 through 1961. He married
Janis Bartelli-Buzard in 1965, they were later divorced; he then married
Carol Burress in 1988 and they were later divorced. Allen in his younger years worked for Dickey Clay he then worked for the United States Postal Service in Pittsburg retiring after 23 years of service. He was a member of the Blue Lodge, Elks Lodge and the American Legion Post #64 all of Pittsburg. Survivors include 2 daughters Yvette Bruenjes-Coomes of Frontenac, Yvonne Bruenjes of Old Hickory, TN; 2 sons Keith Mangile and wife Julie of Drexel, MO, David Mangile of Frontenac; a brother Leroy Bruenjes and wife Nancy of Olathe; 4 Grandchildren-Natalie Coomes, Kacha Hendrix, Kelly and Travis McWhorter. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Evelyn Bailey. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday June 24, 2013 at the Garden of Memories cemetery in Pittsburg. The Pittsburg American Legion Post #64 will provide flag folding ceremonies at the cemetery. Friends are requested to meet at the cemetery. Friends may come by the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Sunday to sign the register book or leave a memorial contribution. The casket will remain closed at all times. Patricia Sue Terlip
FRONTENAC, KS – Patricia Sue Terlip, 79, of Frontenac, KS, died at 1:39am, Friday, July 12, 2013 at her home. She had been in ill health for three months. She was born July 10, 1934 in Pittsburg the daughter of Antone and Irene Mead Menghini. She had been a resident of Frontenac her entire life. Mrs. Terlip attended Frontenac schools and graduated from Frontenac High School in 1952. She married
Robert L. “Bob” Terlip on August 7, 1954 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac, KS. He preceded her in death on Feb. 15, 2012. Mrs. Terlip worked at Miners State Bank of Frontenac and First State Bank of Pittsburg, prior to her retirement. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Altar Society, several card clubs in the area, the Frontenac Education Foundation and the Frontenac High School Booster Club. Survivors include two sons Chris Terlip and his wife Kristy and Kurt Terlip and his wife Kim, one brother A. J. Menghini and his wife Shirley all of Frontenac, four grandsons Kaleb Terlip and his wife Beth, Colby, Corbin and Colin, four great-grandchildren Kylar, Kal, Brinkley and Quinn. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a grandson Corey Terlip. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am Monday, July 15, 2013 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac, with Father Thomas Stroot, as celebrant. The lector will be Neil Deplue, the soloist will be Gary Cinotto and the organist will be Sharon Barone. Pallbearers will be Kaleb Terlip, Corbin Terlip, Colby Terlip, Colin Terlip, Anthony Menghini and Frank Papish. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel cemetery in Frontenac, KS. The parish rosary will be recited at 6 pm Sunday at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac, KS, and the family will receive friends after the rosary service until 8 pm. A memorial has been established to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac, the Frontenac Education Foundation or the United Methodist Church in Frontenac in care of the funeral home.
Mary Jane “Nona” Cherry
Mary Jane “Nona” Cherry, 82 of Frontenac, died at 1:35am, Monday, July 15, 2013 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg following a brief illness. She was born March 19, 1931 in Frontenac the daughter of Barney and Argentina (Biancarelli) Balma. On April 30, 1948 she was united in marriage to Clifford E. Cherry in Pittsburg. The couple celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past April. Mary was a lifetime resident of Frontenac and the owner/operator of Argentina’s restaurant and Nona’s Ristorante. She was also the owner/operator of Mother Goose Daycare in Pittsburg for over 20 years. Survivors include her husband Clifford of the home, two daughters: Pam Shetley and Penne Cherry both of Frontenac; three sons: Steve and Randy Cherry both of Frontenac and Troy Cherry of Belton, MO; a sister Karolyn Cleveland of Carl Junction, MO; along with 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Pete and Leo Gammaitoni. Graveside services will be 10 am, Thursday at the Garden of Memories Cemetery, where friends are requested to meet at the cemetery for the services. The family will receive friends at the Friskel Funeral Home for visitation from 7-8 pm Wednesday evening. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Fund; these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
