Maxine D. Linthicum
Maxine D. Linthicum, 79 of Girard, KS formerly of Frontenac, KS died at 11:50am, Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at the Heritage Nursing Home in Girard after a long illness. She was born December 31, 1934 in Pittsburg. She married
Jerry Linthicum and they later divorced. Maxine was a homemaker and also had several jobs outside the home. Survivors include two daughters: Lynn Grant of Frontenac, Lanna Stewart of Girard; a son Todd Linthicum of rural Pittsburg; six grandchildren: Megan Basore, Danny Grant, Nick Grant, Taylor Stewart, Tori Stewart and Lauren Stewart along with two great-grandchildren Hannah and Grant Basore. She was preceded in death by her parents and several brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be 11 am Friday, September 20, 2013 at the Friskel Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home before the services at 10 am on Friday. Wilma M. Watt
Wilma M. Watt, 86 of Frontenac died at 11:31 a.m. Tuesday October 22, 2013 at the Medicalodge Nursing Home in Frontenac. She was born January 25, 1927 in Garland, KS the daughter of Robert and Eva (Snow) Simons. Wilma attended Arcadia schools and was a graduate of Arcadia High School. Wilma married
Glen Watt on February 1st, 1945 in Arcadia; he survives at the home. She worked for nearly 20 years as a secretary for Dickey Clay Manufacturing Company in Pittsburg retiring in 1989. Wilma was a member of the Frontenac United Methodist Church. She enjoyed dancing and playing pinochle. She was an active part in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She and Glen enjoyed traveling, visiting nearly all 50 states. They also enjoyed simple rides in the country around the Arcadia/Garland areas. Survivors include her husband Glen of the home; son Bob Watt of Arma; daughter Glenna Powers of Gaylord, MI; 5 Grandchildren Christy Smith (Danny), Leah McManis (James), Erika Ramfos (Angelo), Jessica O’Conner (John), Katy Brunet; and 13 Great-grandchildren-Taylor, Tanner, Macie, Maia, Zane, Kyle, Ellie, Madison, Jordan, Acacia, Jacob, Jillian and Jonah. She was preceded in death by her parents, and 2 brothers Bill and Bob Simons. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday October 25th at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac with Pastor Blair Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home where friends may call after 2 p.m. Thursday. Memorial contributions can be made to the Watt Family Trust in order to assist with scholarship’s to further the education of Wilma’s great-grandchildren. Jolene Maransani
Jolene Maransani, 76 of Frontenac died at 7:45 a.m. Sunday October 27, 2013 at the Medicalodge Nursing Home in Frontenac. She was born November 17th 1936 in Frontenac, KS the daughter of Oscar and Helen (Appino) Deplue. She attended Frontenac schools and was a graduate of Frontenac High School. Jolene married
Eugene (Gene) Maransani on November 17, 1955 in Girard, KS; he survives at the home. In 1956 Jolene and her husband Gene moved to Topeka where they lived and worked until retirement; returning to Frontenac in 1991. While living in Topeka Jolene worked for Safeway Grocery Stores as a computer programmer. Jolene had attended the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was a member of the Frontenac American Legion Auxiliary. While living in Topeka she was an active member of the Topeka Moose Lodge. Survivors include her husband Gene of the home; niece Terri Strand, nephews Mike and Neil Deplue all of Frontenac and several other nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Oscar Deplue. A rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac and funeral services will immediately follow with Father Thomas Stroot officiating. Burial will follow the services in the Frontenac City Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Tuesday. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Janice Doreen Patton
CAPALDO, KS – Janice Doreen Patton, 73, of Capaldo, died at 11:10 pm, Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, KS. She was born October 17, 1940 in Fredonia, KS the daughter of Louis and Faye Kesner Hufford. She graduated from Fredonia High School and had been a resident of Capaldo where she and her husband raised their family. She married
Gerald Lee “Jerry” Patton on June 13, 1959 in Parsons, KS. He preceded her in death on December 26, 1997. Mrs. Patton worked as a clerk at Ramsey’s Department Store in Pittsburg for 17 years and also for the Frontenac School District in the cafeteria. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac and the Sacred Heart Altar Society. Survivors include two daughters Brenda Johnson and husband Doug of Frontenac, Missy Mulherin and husband Scott of Frontenac, two sons George Patton and wife Suzanne of Frontenac, Mitch Patton and wife Lori of Frontenac, one sister Connie Howard and husband Jerry of Independence, KS, one brother Charles Hufford and wife Wanda of Milton, Florida, 11 grandchildren, Jordan Rudisill, Jake Rudisill and wife Brooke, Jace Johnson, Samantha Patton, Erica Patton, Ashleigh Patton, Eria Patton, Jason Mulherin, Patty Jo Mulherin and Hunter Mulherin and one great granddaughter Sophia Grace Rudisill. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Thursday November 7, 2013 at Sacred Heart Parish Hall with Father Thomas Stroot, as celebrant. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories. Liturgical services will be 6:30 pm Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac, KS. The family will receive their friends after the Liturgical services until 8 pm, at the funeral home. Friends may call after 2 pm Wednesday at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac. A memorial has been established to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Children’s Miracle Network or Frontenac Educational Foundation in care of the funeral home.
Albert A. Fearmonti
Albert A. Fearmonti, 69 of Frontenac died unexpectedly at his home in the early morning of November 9, 2013. He was born August 8, 1944 in Frontenac. He attended Frontenac school and was a 1962 graduate of Frontenac High School. Albert and his family lived in the Frontenac/Pittsburg area his entire life. Albert met Kathy Bianchi in February 1963; they were married
February 1, 1964 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pittsburg. Kathy survives at the home. He drove for Pepsi Cola Bottling Company in Pittsburg for 26 years and then worked for USD 250 for 14 years as a bus driver. Albert was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac. During his children’s younger years Albert coached his son’s little league and flag football teams and his daughter’s softball teams. He loved working with children and later loved his “bus kids”; he would buy tacos at the end of the school year for his students for being good while traveling on the bus to and from school. His wife, children and grandchildren were his world and he worked very hard to support them his whole life. He would always help any friend or family member in need. Albert will be greatly missed by his family and friends and will always hold him in their hearts. Survivors include his wife Kathy of the home; a daughter Melissa Horton and husband Jackson of Fayetteville, AR; a son James Fearmonti and wife Jessica of Frontenac; two sisters Una Sampley and husband J.E., and Jo Fearmonti; grandchildren Tyler Johnson, Shelby Marshall, Kylie, Caitlen and JT Horton all of Fayetteville, AR, Alissa and Alucian Fearmonti both of Parsons, Vincent Fearmonti of Frontenac, Kaitlin and Raistlin Brewer of Louisburg several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. A Memorial Mass will be 11 a.m. Thursday November 14, 2013 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church parish hall with Father Thomas Stroot as celebrant. In lieu of flowers the family suggests expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church or for Masses to be said in Albert’s name. Ruby M. Carter
Ruby M. Carter, 97, of rural Pittsburg died, Friday November 29th 2013 at Medicalodge of Frontenac. She was born April 17, 1916 in Liberal, MO the daughter of Floyd and Pearl (Hall) Fulps, she was raised by her grandparents Jim and Lacey Ann Fulps after her mother died during childbirth. On March 7, 1938 she was united in marriage to Levi Carter in Vallejo, CA; he preceded her in death on March 12, 2001. Ruby was a homemaker and a devoted member of the Church of God in Mindenmines, MO. Survivors include three sons: Gary Carter (Pastor of the Church of God) of rural Pittsburg, Marshall McDonald of Neosho, MO and Wayne McDonald of Joplin, MO; a sister Shirley Salomon of Chanute, KS, four grandchildren: Christie Carter, Lisha Maples, Charles Carter and Jolee Hagerman along with six great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters and two brothers. Funeral services will be 2 pm, Thursday, December 5, 2013 at the Church of God in Mindenmines, MO with Rev. William Rawson officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove cemetery in Oakton, MO. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 pm Wednesday. Darla Jo Heckert
Darla Jo Heckert, 64, of Pittsburg died at 5:40 a.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at the Golden Living Center in Pittsburg. She was born February 19, 1949 in Pittsburg the daughter of James A. and Fern (Zimmerman) Heckert. Darla attended and was a graduate of College High in Pittsburg. She had lived in Pittsburg, Frontenac and most recently Osage Beach, MO. Darla married
Robert Bucklin, they were later divorced. She worked as office manager for Heckert Construction for 25 years retiring in 2002. Survivors include a daughter Shelly Hipfl and husband Stephen of Frontenac; son Scott Bucklin of St. Joseph, MO;2 brothers Chuck Heckert and wife Janice of Mindenmines, MO, Roger Heckert and wife Katha of Pittsburg; 2 sisters Barbara Dewey and husband Bill of Pittsburg, Diane Garner and husband Richard of Frontenac; 3 grandchildren Alexis, Laken and Avery. She was preceded in death by her parents- biological mother Fern Zimmerman-Heckert and Jim and Marjorie Heckert and a niece Della Ann Butler. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday December 20, 2013 at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac with Pastor Blair Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Olive cemetery in Pittsburg. Mary Layten
Mary Layten, 82, of Pittsburg, died at 9:25 a.m. Thursday January 2, 2014 at the Medicalodge Nursing Home in Frontenac. She was born January 4, 1931 in Fort Scott, KS the daughter of Oscar and Laverne (Harley) Larson. Mary was raised and attended schools in Ft. Scott. She lived for several years in Independence, MO; in 1988 she moved to Pittsburg and had been a resident since. Mary was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pittsburg and in her spare time she enjoyed playing cards. Survivors include a daughter Shirley Williams of Independence, MO; 2 sisters Elizabeth Tucker and Jeanie Strader; 2 Granddaughters Sarah Dorsey of Fort Scott and Tammy Brees of Pittsburg; and 6 Great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Robert Larson and 2 sisters Lois Wallace and Violet Larson. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday January 6, 2014 at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac; burial will follow in the Frontenac City Cemetery. Jerry Lee Watts
Jerry Lee Watts, 59, of Mindenmines, MO died Saturday January 4, 2014 at the Barton County Memorial Hospital in Lamar, MO. He was born November 20, 1954 the son of William Jerry and Nellie (Edison) Watts. He lived the past 20 years in Mindenmines. Jerry served his country in the United State Army. He was a self employed contractor. Survivors include his mother Nellie Rose of Waco, TX; a brother Johnny Watts of Bellmead, TX; a sister Elizabeth Fisher and husband Darrell of Riesel, TX; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother Jimmy Watts. According to Jerry’s wishes he has been taken for cremation. No immediate services are planned at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of the Friskel Funeral Home 230 E. McKay Frontenac, KS.
Don Fischer
Don Fischer, 79, of Kansas City, Missouri died at Via Christi Hospital at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 18th. He was born March 1, 1934 to Ada Culbertson and Jack Watson. Don was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father Maurice Fischer, two brothers Tom and Jack Fischer and a sister-in-law Eileen. He attended elementary school in Chicago and Alma, Arkansas. He graduated from Amundsen High School in Chicago. After high school he attended Junior College and DeVry Electronics School. During the Korean War, Don was stationed in Germany while serving in the U.S. Army’s Signal Corp. Don worked for the United States Postal system for more than thirty years as a mail carrier and an assisted supervisor. His main passion was sports. He played on softball and touch football teams. He was a die-heart Chiefs football fan. His favorite sport activity was bass fishing. Don also enjoyed building WWII model airplanes and working crossword puzzles. The members of the Fernetti family are forever grateful to Don for being one of their mother’s main caregivers in her time of illness. Burial will be in the Pittsburg Garden of Memories on Friday January 24th. Arrangements are under the direction of the Friskel Funeral Home 230 E. McKay Frontenac, KS.
