Donnie Keith Collier
Donnie Keith Collier, 77, of Joplin, MO formally of Asbury, MO died 5:40am Monday September 1, 2014 at the Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, MO following an illness. Donnie was born December 2, 1936 in Barton County, MO the son of Lowell N. and Fern L. (Harry) Collier. Donnie was a graduate of Mindenmines High School in Mindenmines, MO and was a lifelong resident of the area. Donnie was a Veteran of the United States Army. On October 6, 1962 Donnie married
Marva D. Evans in Miami, OK; she survives at the home. Donnie worked as a farmer all his life retiring in 2002. Donnie was a member of the Mindenmines Christian Church. Survivors include his children Brian Collier and wife Karen of Liberal, MO, Kevin Collier and wife Treva of Mindenmines, MO and Jeffrey Collier and wife Wendy of Asbury, MO; siblings Homer Collier of Edwardsville, KS, Danny Collier of Lee Summitt, MO and Janette Pingree of Asbury, MO; 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Donnie was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Services will be 1:00pm Thursday September 4, 2014 at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac, KS with Pastor Bob Winnett officiating. Burial will follow at the Garden of Memories cemetery in Pittsburg, KS. Family will receive friends from 7-8:00pm Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac, KS; friends may call after 3:00pm Wednesday. Eloise Susnik
Eloise Susnik, 88, of Frontenac died at 9:43 a.m. Friday September 12, 2014 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg. She was born April 11, 1926 in Nevada, MO the daughter of Carl and Pearl (Smith) Kirk. She was a graduate of Pittsburg High School, and had been a resident of Frontenac since 1946. Eloise married
Albert Susnik on December 17, 1946 in Pittsburg; he preceded her in death on September 12, 2010. She worked for over 25 years for Pitt Plastics, being one of the first people hired when the plant started. Eloise was a member of the Frontenac United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Frontenac American Legion Auxiliary, Order of the Easter Star the SNPJ Lodge and numerous card clubs. Survivors include a daughter Nancy Dungan of Frontenac; a son Craig Susnik and wife Doe of Pittsburg; 5 Grandchildren L.J. Dungan, Justin Dungan and spouse Michael, Courtney McCartney and husband Mike, Rowdy Susnik and wife Courtney, Cody Susnik and girlfriend Chelsea Cooley; 7 Great-grandchildren Kylor, Ryleigh and Collin McCartney, Whit and Jace Dungan and Bo Susnik. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a grandson Clint Susnik, a son-in-law Lenny Dungan, 2 brothers Dale and Dewey Kirk and a sister Mardell Barton. Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Monday September 15th 2014 at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac with Reverend Verl Strong officiating. Diana Gorham
Diana Gorham, 43, of Frontenac, KS died at 8:30 pm, October 28, 2014 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg. She was born November 19, 1970 in Neosho, MO the daughter of Charles and Velda (White) Goswick. On April 23, 1994 she was united in marriage to Jerry Gorham in Racine, MO; he survives her of the home. Diana worked as the manager of the Long John Silver restaurant in Pittsburg for 18 years. She was a long time member of the original Racine Baptist Church. Additional survivors include two children: Lindsey and Austin Gorham both of the home; her father Charles and step-mother Leona Goswick of Wheaton, MO; a sister: Tammy Sapp of Granby, MO; two brothers: Jeff Goswick of San Diego, CA and Frank Goswick of Plano, TX; a step-brother Chris Sanders of Waynesville, MO and a step-sister Jessica Howe of Cassville, MO. She was preceded in death by her mother. Funeral services will be 10 am Friday, October 31, 2014 at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac. Burial will be at 2:30 pm at the Burkhart cemetery in Racine, MO. Family received friends at the funeral home from 6:30-8:00 pm on Thursday evening. Services by Friskel Funeral Home 230 E. Areatha Ruth Shock
FRONTENAC, KS – Areatha Ruth Shock, 87, of Frontenac, died Monday, November 10, 2014 at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, KS. She was born January 12, 1927 in Pittsburg, KS the daughter of O. H. and Cornelia Biggs Oehme. She graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1945 and later attended Pittsburg Business School. She married
Jack Hebert in 1945 and they were later divorced. She married
William “Bever” Shock in 1956 and he preceded her in death in 2009. Mrs. Shock worked at the Pittsburg Census Bureau for 25 years prior to her retirement. She was baptized in the First Christian Church in Pittsburg and was currently a member of the Frontenac Methodist Church, Past Worthy Matron of the Rob Morris Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, Past Queen of the Daughters of the Nile, The Order of the Beauceant, the Frontenac American Legion Auxiliary, the Red Hat Toppers, the Shriners Sewing group, and served as a Den Mother with the Cub Scouts for three years. Survivors include two granddaughters Holli Larsen Papish of Olathe, KS and Shala Larsen of Saugatuck, Michigan, two great-grandchildren Ellie Barde and Samuel Larsen of Saugatuck, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons Michael Hebert and Jack Hebert and one daughter Mary Elizabeth Hebert, four brothers Claudie, Carl, Charlie, Otto M. “Pete” Oehme and one sister Clytia Alumbaugh. Funeral services will be 10 am Thursday, November 13, 2014 at the Friskel Funeral Home, 230 E. McKay in Frontenac, KS, with the Rev. Andy Frazier of the Frontenac Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Frontenac City Cemetery. The Rob Morris Chapter Order of the Eastern Star rites will be conducted at 6 pm Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends after the service until 7 pm. Friends may call after 3pm Wednesday at the Friskel Funeral Home. A memorial has been established to the Frontenac Methodist Church.
Lanny A. Roedel
Lanny A. Roedel, 65, of Joplin, MO, died peacefully in his sleep on Veteran's Day, November 11, 2014 after a long illness. Lanny was a retired union carpenter of Local 311 in Joplin. He served as a Lance Corporal with the 9th Marine Division in Vietnam, which was instrumental in Operation Dewey Canyon. He held a black belt in Chinese Kenpo and a brown belt in Shotokan Kenpo karate. He was a martial arts instructor for many years, leading his family to earn more than 300 trophies in martial arts tournaments across the Midwest in the 1980's. Lanny was a giving man with a sense of humor and a love of hunting, fishing and riding motorcycles. He is survived by his six children: Rhonda Martin of St. Peters, MO; Carol Gossett of Pittsburg, KS; Kenny Roedel of Frontenac, KS; Darren Roedel of Mound City, KS; Tonya Kenworthy and Rex Davis, both of Flushing, MI; his brother, Richard Roedel of Naples, FL; his sister, Debbie Roedel Ling Hodge of Spring Hill, KS; as well as 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Lanny was preceded in death by his parents, Kennett Roedel and Lorene Barger Roedel, and two brothers, Leroy Roedel and Roland Roedel Lanny has left a legacy of hope for those he has given to, even when he had little to give. His smile will remain one of our fondest memories. May God bless those who gave him joy in life, and may He bring this beloved son, brother, father, grandfather and friend eternal peace. Reba K. Hastings
Reba K. Hastings, 94, of Pittsburg, KS died at 12 am, Thursday, November 27, 2014 at the Via Christi Village in Pittsburg. She was born November 17, 1920 in Ft. Scott, KS the daughter of Abner and Belva (Lemaster) Hamm. She was married
to Glen E. Hastings, he preceded her in death. Survivors include two daughters: Diana Martin of Pittsburg and Janie (Charles) Hawkins of Lawrence, KS; a brother Jerry (Norma) Hamm of Coffeyville, KS and a sister Carolyn (Bill) Oertle of Pittsburg; six grandchildren and their families along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, a sister and a grandson. Memorial graveside services will be 1 pm, December 5, 2014 at the Lockwood cemetery in Lockwood, MO. Friends and family are requested to meet at the cemetery for the services. A Remembrance service will be held at the Via Christi Village Chapel at 3 pm, December 6, 2014. Sharon Motto
Sharon Motto, 77, of Broken Arrow, OK formerly of the Pittsburg/Frontenac area died at 3:03 p.m. Sunday December 7, 2014 at the Clare Bridge Facility in Broken Arrow. She was born August 1, 1937 in Pittsburg, KS the daughter of Francis and Esther L. (Dugan) Fears. Sharon married
John Motto on May 6, 1956 in Pittsburg, KS; they relocated to Wichita, KS and lived there until 1977 when they came back to Pittsburg; he preceded her in death on November 3, 2012. She worked in retail sales, working for Crowell’s Drug Store during the 1950’s, Ace Hardware in the 1970’s and Wal-Mart from the 1980’s-1990’s. Sharon was currently a member of the Open Door Fellowship church in Pittsburg and also attended the Family Life Assembly of God church in Pittsburg. Growing up she attended the United Methodist Church.. Sharon dedicated her life being a witness for the Lord. Survivors include a son Shane Motto and spouse of McCune, KS; 2 daughters Donna Munson and spouse of Oklahoma City, OK; Shanna Gore and spouse of Broken Arrow, OK; 12 Grandchildren and 5 Great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter Jona Allo, a brother and a sister and 2 granddaughters. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday December 14, 2014 at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac with Pastor Don Talent officiating. Burial will follow in the Frontenac City Cemetery. Sondra Kay Stroud, 57, of Pittsburg, KS died 11:55pm Wednesday December 17, 2014 at her home following an illness. Sondra was born August 25, 1957 in Ft. Scott, KS the daughter of James and Zelma Mae (Short) Dunlap. Sondra has been a lifetime resident of the area and attended area schools. On December 7, 1974 Sondra married
Richard Vernon Stroud in Pittsburg, KS; he survives at the home. Sondra worked at Walmart in Pittsburg, KS in the bakery department for 15 years. She also worked at various nursing homes in the area serving as a Certified Nurses Aide. Sondra will be most remembered by her love of baking and taking care of kids and grandkids. Survivors include her husband; children Christy Cole and husband Woody of Pittsburg, KS and Steve Stroud and fiancée Megan Wheeler of Joplin, MO; sister Jimmie Whitesell and husband Bill of Blue Rapids, KS; grandchildren Quentin Cole, Conner Cole, Paige Cole, Kayleigh Martin and Madison Martin. Sondra was preceded in death by her daughter Amanda Stroud, brother Ralph Dunlap and sister Debbie Eaton. Douglas L. Stanley
Douglas L. Stanley, 81, of Frontenac, KS died 10:15am Thursday January 8, 2015 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, KS following an illness. Doug was born March 23, 1933 in DeLeon, TX the son of Leslie Frank and Lurlean (Rogers) Stanley. Doug has lived in the Frontenac community since 1956. Doug was a Veteran of the Army serving as a supply clerk during the Korean War. On March 2, 1957 Doug married
Rose Marie Gintner in Miami, OK; she survives at the home. Doug worked for Kansas City Southern as a Yard Clerk for 30 years before retiring in 1997. Doug was of the Christian Faith; was a member of the American Legion; loved fishing, hunting, woodworking, going to Frontenac Raider Football Games, known as a Dallas Cowboys fan and reluctant Kansas City Chiefs fan. Survivors include his wife; children Cindy Schwalm and husband Wayne of Osawatomie, KS and Douglas A. Stanley and wife Billie Jean of Cherokee, KS; sister Glenda Rae Pasini and husband Mike of Mulberry, KS; brother in-law Joe Gintner of Frontenac, KS; grandchildren Sara Schwalm, Tanner Schwalm, Elaine Diane, Taylor Rose, MaKayla Darlene, Bryan Jacob and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be 10am Tuesday January 13, 2015 at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac, KS with Rev. Norlita Kaul officiating.
