Melvin O. Hohl
Melvin O. Hohl, 84, of Frontenac died at 5:55 p.m. Thursday January 29th, 2015 at the Medicalodge Nursing Home in Frontenac. He was born August 14, 1930 in Bushton, KS the son of A.G. and Selma Lee (Korf) Hohl. Melvin was a Graduate of Garfield High School in Garfield, KS. He had lived most of his life in the Pittsburg/Frontenac area. He married
Lois Schneider on November 24, 1956 in Larned, KS; she preceded him in death February 23, 2010. Melvin worked for Bankers Dispatch, A&I Engineering and Pittsburg Police Department as a reserve officer. He was an active member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Pittsburg; the Frontenac American Legion and the VFW. Survivors include three sons-Melvin J. Hohl and wife Della of Pittsburg, Kurtis Hohl and wife Pam of Weir, Neil Hohl of Phoenix, AZ; a daughter Linnea Knisely of Prescott Valley, AZ; 6 grandchildren Stefanie Beesley and husband Greg, Sam Hohl, Amanda Knisely, Kirsten Hohl, John Jacob “J.J.” Knisely, Seuris Hohl and a Great-granddaughter Peyton Beesley. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 5 brothers, 3 sisters and a Granddaughter Kara Hohl. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday February 3, 2015 at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac with Reverend Jim Sukraw officiating. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the Fort Scott National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac. Memorial contributions can be made to the Chris Kyle Foundation; a foundation set up for veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. Pamela A. Pearcey (Rice)
Pamela A. Pearcey (Rice), 67, of Stotts City, MO died at 10:17 p.m. Thursday January 29th, 2015 at the Mt. Vernon Place Care Center in Mt. Vernon, MO. She was born October 27, 1947 in Yuma, AZ the daughter of Robert Briggs and Georgia Ann (McCormick) Rice. Throughout her life she lived in various places; Lawton, OK, Mulberry, KS, Pittsburg and most recently Stotts City, MO. Pamela married
Ronald R. Pearcey on December 1, 1990 in Aurora, MO; he survives at the home. She was a cook and baker, mainly cooking at Tin Lizzies for 8 years. Pamela was of the Baptist faith and attended the Stotts City Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking for the family and made the best fried chicken. Ron and Pam took many vacations to Colorado which was some of the best times they had spent together. She loved having a garden every year and grew most everything, the best were her home grown blackberries. Survivors include her husband Ronald of the home; one daughter Missy Colley Carriger of Osawatomie; three sons-Earl Colley Jr. of Ft. Scott, James Russell Green of Joplin, MO, Jamie Rice of Texas; a step-son Allen Pearcey of Aurora, MO; a sister Carolyn Vediz of Pittsburg; two brothers Denny Rice of Mulberry and Linden James (Jimmy) Rice of Webb City, MO; 19 Grandchildren and 10 Great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Robert Rice Jr. Memorial graveside services will be noon on Monday February 9th 2015 at the Frontenac City Cemetery. Following the graveside service friends and family are requested to meet at the Chicopee Center for refreshments. Arrangements are under the direction of the Friskel Funeral Home 230 E. Francis (Bud) Pirnat
Francis (Bud) Pirnat, 91, of Frontenac died at 11:09 p.m. Saturday March 14, 2015 at the Mercy Hospital in Fort Scott, KS. He was born July 25, 1923 in Frontenac, KS the son of Frank and Julia (Markovitz) Pirnat. He lived his entire life in Frontenac; graduating from Frontenac High School in 1941. Bud was a veteran of WWII serving his country in the Unites States Army Air Corps. He served in the Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes and Rhineland Campaigns. In addition to his numerous other citations he was the recipient of the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 4 bronze battle stars. He worked for McNally’s Manufacturing in the Foundry Division for nearly 35 years retiring in 1983. Bud was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac and a lifelong member of the Frontenac American Legion. Survivors include a sister Nadine Davied of Kansas City, KS; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Mildred Eshelbrenner and Wilma Korach. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday March 20th, 2015 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac with Father Thomas Stroot as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Mount Carmel Cemetery. The parish rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac where the family will receive friends following until 8 p.m. The family will be at the home of Bud’s nephew Al Eshelbrenner at 404 Catalina Dr. in Frontenac. Lola Mae Spendlove
Lola Mae Spendlove, 88, of Frontenac, KS died at 2pm, Tuesday March 17, 2015 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg. She was born May 11, 1926 in Nevada, IA the daughter of Robert Jasper and Clara Bell (Stoops) Gregory. She married
Mike H.B. Spendlove; he preceded her in death on Feb. 11, 2003. Lola was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She is survived by several close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Graveside services will be 2 pm, Thursday, March 19, 2015 at the Crocker cemetery with Pastor Andy Frazier officiating. Burial will follow. William A. “Sonny” Harper
PITTSBURG, KS – William A. “Sonny” Harper, 73, of Pittsburg, died March 20, 2015 at his home, after a long illness. He was born August 13, 1941 in Iola, KS the son of Joseph A. and Eva A. Willet Harper. He had been a resident of Pittsburg for most of his life. He married
Karen Sluder on May 20, 1966 in Pittsburg, KS and she survives at the home in Pittsburg. Mr. Harper worked for Superior Industries in Pittsburg as a polisher and mold repairman for 14 years, retiring in 2003. He served as a reserve police officer for the Pittsburg Police Department for three years. His hobbies included woodworking, yard work and gardening. Survivors include his wife Karen of the home, two brothers Terry Harper of Miami, OK and Jerry Harper of Ft. Worth, Texas, one sister Eva Jean Burns of Pittsburg, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother Joseph and an infant sister Mary. Private family burial will be in the Rosebank cemetery in Mulberry, KS. A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association. Memorials may be left at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac, KS.
Joshua Alexander Friskel
Joshua Alexander Friskel was born August 22, 1978 in Fort Scott, KS. He passed away in Frontenac, KS on March 28, 2015. Joshua was a current resident of Woodstock, NY. Joshua was survived by his parents, James Friskel and Heidi and Gus Boyles, grandparents Philip and Mary Ann Maceli, siblings Alexis Friskel and Andrew Roberts, Emma and Levi Lehman, Jacob and Amanda Boyles, and Nicholas Friskel, along with his beloved niece, Iona June and partner Ashley Widzinski. He was additionally survived by adoring aunts, uncles, and cousins, and was blessed with more friends than one could count. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Joseph and Doris Friskel, Uncles Timothy and Michael Friskel, grandfather Robert Alexander, and cousin Ashley Harry. It is impossible to emphasize the gravity of this loss to his family, friends, and to all that knew him. A tribute to his life will be held at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac, KS on Saturday April 4, 2015 at 11:00 am. Services are under the direction of the Friskel Funeral Home; 230 E. James Grant Loth “Jimmy”
James Grant Loth “Jimmy”, 54, of Frontenac, KS died 10:20am Monday March 30, 2015 at his home following an illness. Jimmy was born July 30, 1960 in Ft. Scott, KS the son of Jack C. and Catherine E. (Grant) Loth. Jimmy was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Frontenac High School in 1978 were he served as Class President and Student Counsel President. He later attended Pittsburg State University. Jimmy worked as a custodian for the Frontenac School District. Jimmy was of the Catholic Faith; loved golfing, playing pool, everything Frontenac, his pet cat Casey and most of all was proud of his nieces and nephews. Survivors include his sister Lisa Loth and partner Chris Casey of Frontenac, KS; nieces and nephews Stephan Kent Brumbaugh of Kansas City, KS, Erin Elizabeth Brumbaugh of Frontenac, KS and Lyndsay Colleen Loth of Denver, CO; special friends Lee Burnetti of Frontenac, KS and Larry Burnetti of Pittsburg, KS; God Son Rudy James Belew in the United States Air Force and numerous other cousins and friends. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents and brother Jack C. Loth II. Memorial Services will be 7:00pm Friday April 3, 2015 at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac, KS with Fr. Robert McElwee officiating. Burial will follow at a private date at the Mt. Carmel cemetery in Frontenac, KS. Joshua Edward Glasgow
Joshua Edward Glasgow, 33 of Liberal, MO, died unexpectedly Saturday April 4, 2015 in Kansas City, KS. He was born April 7, 1981 in Kingman, KS the son of Jim and Cynthia Louise (Quaduor) Glasgow. He was a graduate of Liberal High School, where he was active in weightlifting and held the record in bench press for several years. Following high school Josh received his degree in welding and attended and graduated from truck driving school. Josh married
Renae Coon; they were later divorced. He was currently working for Knight Trucking as an over the road truck driver. Survivors include a son Joshua James Glasgow of Hutchinson, KS; his father Jim Glasgow of Liberal, MO, his mother Cynthia Glasgow of Louisville, KY; his step-mother Penny Blackburn; a brother Jeremiah Glasgow of Louisville, KY; 2 sisters Brandy Lewis of Weir, Jennifer Faucett of Pittsburg, his former in-laws Rick and Sharon Coon of Girard; 3 nieces and 2 nephews; he was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents and a brother Bubba Blackburn. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday April 11, 2015 at the Church of God of Prophecy in Liberal, MO with Reverend David J. Beard officiating. Burial will follow in the Frontenac City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church. According to Josh’s wishes the casket will remain closed at all times. Elizabeth R. Strukel
GIRARD, KS – Elizabeth R. Strukel, 91, of Girard, died April 30, 2015 at Medicalodge of Girard. She was born September 19, 1923 in Girard, KS to Rudolph and Pauline Podbregar Malnar. She grew up in Girard and graduated from Girard High School in 1941. She also attended Pittsburg State University. She had worked for the Widboldt Department Store and was a Credit Union Manager at the McCormick Twine Mills in Chicago, IL. She also served in the Marine Corps during World War II stationed at Headquarters Co. in Arlington National cemetery across from the Naval Annex Building where she worked for the Marine Quartermaster Corps. After her return to Girard, she was employed at the Kansas Ordinance Plant in Parsons, KS, and the Bureau of the Census in Pittsburg, KS, the Crawford County Court House and Strukel Electric in Girard, KS. On April 6, 1946 she married
Jack J. Strukel of Franklin, KS. He preceded her in death on May 6, 1990. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Girard, St. Michael’s Altar Society, National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARP), and the Betty Lou Vilmer American Legion Post #394 where she served as past commander, the SNPJ Lodge #225, the Prestige Club of Joplin, MO and the Chicopee Foundation. Survivors include one son Warren J. Strukel and his wife Wendy of Girard. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers Rudy, John, Joe, Sylvester and Eddie Malnar. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am Friday, May 8, 2015 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Girard, KS with Father Roger Lumbre, as celebrant. Burial will be in the Pittsburg Garden of Memories, with flag folding ceremonies by the Benjamin Fuller American Legion Post#64. Graveside rites will also be given by the SNPJ Lodge #225 of Arma, KS. The parish rosary will be recited at 7pm Thursday, May 7, 2015 at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac, KS, where the family will receive their friends after the rosary service until 8pm. Friends may call after 11 am Thursday, May 7, 2015 at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested in lieu of flowers to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Girard Hospital Auxiliary in care of the funeral home.
Betty Lou Fields-Wilkins
Betty Lou Fields-Wilkins, 85 of Frontenac, KS passed away at 5:28 a.m. on Friday May 8, 2015 at the Medicalodge Nursing Home in Frontenac, KS. She was born November 10, 1929 in Pittsburg, KS the daughter of Bill and Enid (Martin) Standlee. Betty was a graduate of Pittsburg High School. She worked for several years at the Parsons Ammunition Plant in Parsons, KS; she worked for the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department, the Girard Police Department and the City of Frontenac before retiring. She loved working with her horses, doing yard work and planting flowers. She especially enjoyed her time with her friends that visited her and her close friends she had at Medicalodge. Betty is survived by one son, Lynn Fields and wife Joni of Kansas City, MO; a brother Dan Standlee of Joplin, MO; 3 grandchildren and 7 Great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Larry Fields and a granddaughter Dana Fields. According to her wishes Betty was taken for cremation. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Friday May 22, 2015 at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac with Reverend Dennis Johnson officiating.
