ETHEL R. RANDALL
Ethel R. Randall, 81, Ottawa, died Saturday April 7, 2001, at Village Plaza. Graveside inurnment services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in the Gardner cemetery with Rev. John Duran officiating. She was born Nov. 8, 1919, at Gardner to John and Harriet (MacRoy) Hawk. She married Milo Randall at Gardner on Dec. 14, 1934. He died March 4, 1998. She was a life-long homemaker and and Franklin County resident, living in Ottawa the last four years. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5901 Auxiliary. She is survived by three sons, Jerry Randall, Rantoul, Howard Randall, Ottawa, and Kerry Randall, Melvern; two daughters, Dixie Oakes, Ottawa, and Louise Barton, Alton, Mo.; 18 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Colen Randall; three brothers, Bill Hawk, Monty Hawk and Jack Hawk; three sisters, Emma Hilton, Mabel Coleman, and Ruby Gillette; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Her body was cremated. Memorial contributions may be made to the Faith Lutheran Church Building fund, in care of Dengel & Son Mortuary.

CLARENCE "DUSTY" PLEASANT RHODES
OSAWATOMIE - Clarence "Dusty" Pleasant Rhodes, 87, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001. Funeral services will be held 10:30 Saturday at Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home, Osawatomie. He was born May 6, 1913 at Tulsa, Okla. to Samuel Pleasant and Birtie Perlina Adams Rhodes. He moved to the Parker area as a small child and attended Parker schools. He moved to Osawatomie in 1940. He was a brakeman for the Missouri Pacific Railroad for 30 years retiring in 1970. He then owned and operated a lawn mower and small engine repair shop for 15 years. He married Helen Marie Barden Feb. 12, 1935 at Paola. She survives of the home. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Osawatomie, the NAARVE, Twin Rivers Campers Club and a 55 year member of the United Transportation Union. He is survived by two sons, James Pleasant Rhodes, Tulsa, Okla., and Larry Richard Rhodes, Osawatomie; two daughters, Doris Ann Wilson, Garnett, and Linda Marie Haskins, Osawatomie; a sister, Ruth Anderson, Osawatomie; 19 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. He is preceded in death by a brother. He will lie in state from 1-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Visitation will be from 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday. Interment will be at the Beagle Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church or Crossroads Hospice.

MARGARET L. RICHARDSON
OVERLAND PARK - Margaret L. Richardson, 76, Overland Park, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at Trinity Lutheran Manor, Merriam. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Village Presbyterian Church, Overland Park. She was born July 20, 1924, in Ottawa, to Clarence A. "Brick" and Gertrude (McMahan) Peacock and was an area resident for over 51 years. She worked at Hercules Powder Company at the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant, DeSoto, during World War II and attended Kansas University for 2 years. She worked for Pyramid Life Insurance and later for Blue Cross-Blue Shield. She married Willard Richardson, at Ellington Field, Houston, on June 29, 1945. He survives. She is also survived by two daughters, Janet Seger and Anne Maranda, and four grandchildren. She is preceded in death by a sister. Family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be at Antioch Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Village Church to be used for underprivileged children.

LOUISE SCOTT
Louise Scott, 81, died Sunday, March 18, 2001 at Meadowbrook Rehabilitation Hospital, Gardner. She was cremated and no services are planned at this time. She was born May 10, 1919 at Emporia to Emma Leona (Beckley) and Ralph Joseph Reed. She grew up in Albuquerque, N.M. and later moved to Glendale, Calif. where she graduated from Hoover High School in 1937. She graduated from business college in St. Paul. Minn. in 1952. She worked as a secretary for the State of Minnesota and later for the Federal Government in the Highway Administration, retiring January 7, 1982. She moved to Ottawa after her retirement. She was a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and the GL Card Club. She is survived by a brother, Ralph Joseph Reed Jr., Westerville, Ohio, and a sister, Martha Hart of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Ann Ulmer. Memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin County Cancer Foundation and sent in care of Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home, PO Box 14, Ottawa, KS 66067.

BARBARA LEE SNOOK
Barbara Lee Snook, 88, formerly of Kansas City, died Monday, April 9, 2001 at Ransom Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home with Rev. Cliff Burke officiating. She was born Feb. 10, 1913, at Springfield, Ill., to Charles F. and Eula (Reed) Smith. She moved to Kansas City, Kan. when she was 14 and completed her education at Rosedale High School. She married John Earl Snook on Feb. 14, 1940, in Kansas City, Mo. He died Jan. 16, 1982. She worked for several years with her mother in the home decorating and wallpapering business. Most of her life she was a homemaker. She moved to Rantoul in 1979. She lived with her daughter in recent years near Ottawa before moving to the Richmond Nursing Home in December. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, and former member of the Ruhamah Baptist Church near Rantoul. She is survived by two daughters, Shirley A. Drumright, Ottawa, and Judy Frost, Overland Park; nine grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, her twin Aubrey Teas and Tony Smith; and one grandson. Her body will lie in state after 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery, Kansas City. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ottawa Library.

MAMIE EDNA SOWERS
OVERBROOK - Mamie Edna Sowers, 100, Overbrook, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at Scottsdale, Ariz. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Overbrook United Methodist Church. She was born June 1, 1900, at Eskridge to Harry and Carrie (Mercer) Turner. She graduated from Carbondale High School and taught grade school for two years near Auburn. She married Jacob Albert Sowers of Berryton on March 10, 1920. He died July 13, 1966. They lived in Berryton after their marriage and they moved to Overbrook in 1944. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Thimble Club, and the Busy Bees, all of Overbrook. She is survived by two sons, James A. Sowers and Robert A. Sowers, both of Overbrook; a daughter, Helen I. Offen, Scottsdale, Ariz.; a sister Nelle Rogers, Topeka; eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Dorothy Sowers and Frances Sowers. Her body will lie in state 3-8 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home, Overbrook, and family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Burial will be at the Lynn Creek Cemetery, Berryton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Overbrook Library.

IDA LOUISE SPENCER
SLIDELL, LA. - Ida Louise Spencer, 82, died Monday, March 19, 2001. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at the Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home, Ottawa. She was born Dec. 20, 1918 in Cleveland, Ohio to Louis and Eva (Dziegiel) Gawrys. She grew up and graduated from high school in 1936. She entered the United States Navy after high school where she was an Aviation Machinist Mate with an Instrument Rating. She served in WWII. She married Harold Earl Spencer Jan. 5, 1946 in California. He preceded her in death April 27, 1993. She is survived by four sons, Dennis Spencer, Slidell, La., Patrick Spencer, Costa Mesa, Calif., Michael Spencer, Mobile, Ala., and James Spencer, Tustin, Calif.; a daughter, Cathie Hasperue, Pearl River, La.; a sister, Mary Giowacki, Slidell, La., and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Novak, and two brothers, John Gawrys and Henry Gawrys. Family will receive friends 9 a.m. Friday before the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Antioch cemetery rural Ottawa. Memorial contributions may be made to the Midland Hospice and sent in care of Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home, PO Box 14, Ottawa KS 66067.

E. JUNE LUTZ
E. June Lutz, 87, Ottawa, died Thursday, April 5, 2001, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Funeral services were Monday at Dengel & Son Mortuary with Rev. Francis Stockton officiating, and military honors by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post # 5901 Auxiliary. Burial was at Osawatomie Cemetery. She was born June 9, 1913, at Sedgwick to Harley and Dathula (Lyles) Day. She attended grade school in Chase, and graduated from Ottawa High School in 1933. She lived in Ottawa the remainder of her life. She graduated from Ottawa Business School and attended Kansas State Teachers College at Emporia. She married Warner Lutz at Garnett on Dec. 31, 1940. He died May 25, 1964. She worked on the family farm and in the late 1950s worked as a clerk for Franklin County. From 1961 until her retirement in 1988, she was employed by the Kansas State Highway Department at Olathe. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5901 Auxiliary, and former member of Ottawa Business and Professional Women. She is survived by a son, Robert Carter, Ottawa; a sister, Jessie May Harrison, St. Petersburg, Fla.; a nephew and two nieces. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church.

ALYN "IKE KENDALL
MELVERN - Alyn "Ike" Kendall, 87, Melvern, died Saturday, March 24, 2001, at a Topeka hospital. Funeral services will be 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Pleasant View cemetery east of Melvern. He was born May 19, 1933, in Holly, Colo., to John Wilson and Nell Eaiken Kendall. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956. He married Marilyn Bardell on Dec. 24, 1960, in Denver. She survives. He lived in Denver for many years, moving to Melvern in 1976 after retirement. He was employed for Western Union in Denver and the Marais des Cygnes Valley school district, Melvern, and the Criqui Construction Co. He was a member of the Melvern Masonic Lodge #22, and the Flint Hills Bee Keepers. He is survived by a son, Kyle Kendall, Dallas; a daughter, Rhonda Kendall, Ottawa; three brothers, Ralph Kendall, Vinita, Okla., Jean Kendall, Agricola, and Dave Kendall, La Vernia, Texas; three sisters, Betty Belfiore, Fairfield, Calif., and Beth Conner and Minnie Neill, both of Sun City, Ariz. Visitation will be 12:30-3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Feltner Chapel, Lyndon. Memorial contributions may be made to the Melvern Community Building.

JUDY HUTCHINSON
Judy Hutchinson, 59, died Thursday, March 22, 2001 at her residence in Ottawa. Services will be held 7 p.m. Monday at Dengel & Son Mortuary, with the Rev. Kent Melcher officiating. She was born Aug. 10, 1941, in Washington, D.C. to John H. and Marion D. Davidson Hutchinson. She has lived in Ottawa since 1988, moving from Mill Valley, Calif., where she lived since 1967. In 1943 she moved from Washington, D.C. to the family dairy farm in Whitewater, Wis. In 1945 she and her family moved to the Chicagoland area. She graduated from New Trier High School, Winnetka, Ill., and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University. She was a flight attendant for TWA for more than 20 years, based in New York and then San Francisco, before retiring in 1986. She also was a nutritionist for Marshall Field & Co., Chicago, in 1963 and 1964. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Ottawa, co-facilitator and member of the Alzheimer's Association Heartland Division Ottawa chapter and volunteer for the Ottawa Community Arts Council. She was also a member of Silver Wings, an organization of retired TWA flight attendants, and the National Wildlife Association. Survivors include a brother, Barrie Hutchinson, Greenbank, Wash.; and companion, Joe Schneider, Ottawa. Her body will be cremated and private family inurment will be held at Rosehill Cemetery, Chicago. Memorials may be send to the Martin B. Peck Animal Shelter, in care of Dengel & Sons.
