S. Marvin Miller Jr., 63, of Great Bend, died June 13 at his residence in Great Bend. He was born May 6, 1941, at Wichita, the son of Samuel Marvin Sr. and Elsie Ruth Queen Miller. He married
Karen Ruth Wade Aug. 28, 1966. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, he was a self-employed carpet layer.
Miller was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles of Great Bend.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Scott Miller of Cheney and Justin Miller of Great Bend; two brothers, Larry Miller of Great Bend and Eddie Dean Miller of Ames, Iowa; one stepbrother, Manuel Schlagel of Independence; three sisters, Virginia Champ of Great Bend; Georgia Mead of Lyons and Bonnie Woodward of Tulsa, Okla.; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry Miller; and two sisters, Carolina Burton and Marilyn Workman.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend, with the Rev. Gary Brooks officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park of Great Bend. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to service time Thursday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, in care of the funeral home.

Harlan E. Hoover 1923-2004
HAYS — Harlan E. Hoover, 81, died June 11 at his home in Hays. He was born Feb. 13, 1923, at Grinnell, Iowa, the son of Fred D. and R. Grace Cline Hoover. He was an auto mechanic and member of American Legion and AARP.
Survivors include one son, Allan Hoover of Great Bend; one stepson, Roger McCauley of Topeka; one brother, Herbert Hoover of Hays; two grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ward Hoover; and three sisters, Esther Diehm, Adaline Hoover and Velda Hoover.
Funeral was Monday at Hays Memorial Chapel. Burial was at Mt. Allen cemetery in Hays. Memorials are suggested to Alcoholics Anonymous Oak Street Group, 410 Oak, Hays, KS 67601, in care of Hays Memorial Chapel.

Eddie LeRoy Condit 1911-2004
WICHITA — Eddie LeRoy Condit, 92, died June 10 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He was born June 30, 1911, in Drumright, Okla., the son of Ralph Foy and Josephine Stark Condit. He married
Agnes Louise Leiker Sept. 6, 1937, in Hays. A resident of Wichita, coming from Great Bend, he was an oil field worker, employed by Imperial Oil Company and Slawson Drilling.
Survivors include his wife of the home; five sons, William Joseph Condit of Euless, Texas, Richard Condit of Bay City, Texas, Larry Condit of Tucson, Ariz., Jerry Condit of Sioux City, Neb., and Eddie Foy Condit of Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters, Debra Lancaster of Offerle and MaDonna Condit of Wichita; one brother, Dempsey Gene Condit of Edmond, Okla.; and two sisters, Joann Westman of Portsmouth, Va., and Coletta Evans of Wichita; 19 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Sybil Travis.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Charter Funerals Chapel in Great Bend, with the Rev. Don Paden officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Hillcrest Memorial Park cemetery in Great Bend. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., all at the funeral chapel. Betty R. Lewis 1920-2004
HOISINGTON — Betty R. Lewis, 83, of Independence, Mo., passed away Wednesday, June 9, at home in Hoisington. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at George C. Carson & Sons Funeral Home, Independence, with interment in Mt. Washington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Betty was born Dec. 8, 1920, in Kansas City, Mo., to Benjamin R. and Ruth Adeline Culley Smith. On Nov. 9, 1940, Betty married
Bruce T. Lewis. She was with JC Penney Co. in the Blue Ridge Mall for 17 years, retiring as credit department manager.
Betty was a devoted, 42-year member of Englewood Assembly of God, and was active in many church activities.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a sister, Lucille Allen. She is survived by her sons, Dr. Lawrence D. Lewis and wife Adele of Portland, Ore., and James B. Lewis and wife Marilyn of Peculiar, Mo.; daughter Kathleen L. Burt and husband Cliff of Great Bend; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Ben Smith and wife Mardell of Bend, Ore.; niece, Nancy Gallagher and husband Keith of Houston, Texas; nephew, Tim Smith and wife Mary of Portland, Ore. Richard ‘Ben’ Nichols 1903-2004
ELLINWOOD — Richard “Ben” Nichols, 101, died June 10 at Ellinwood District Hospital in Ellinwood. He was born March 29, 1903, at Olmitz, the son of John and Agnes Hoenig Nichols. He married
Dorothy Schrimp Oct. 9, 1965, at Wichita. She died April 19, 1981. A resident of Ellinwood since 1998, coming from Hoisington, he retired from the maintenance department of Missouri-Pacific Railroad, then worked as a warehouseman for Fox-Fileet Prescription Drug Warehouse.
Nichols was a member of First United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge No. 331 AF & AM, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7428 and American Legion Post No. 286, all of Hoisington.
Survivors include one nephew, Jim Canfield of Great Bend; and one niece, Nadine Schartz of Ellinwood. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence Nichols and Albert Nichols; and two sisters, Agnes N. Canfield and Berniece Gibson.

Edwin ‘Ed’ J. Breit 1932-2004
HOISINGTON — Edwin “Ed” J. Breit, 71, died June 9 at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. He was born Oct. 31, 1932, at Loretto, the son of Richard and Anna Urban Breit. He married
Sophie A. Richmeier May 3, 1958, at Loretto. A resident of Hoisington since 1964, coming from Hays, he was a retired truck driver having worked for Kansas Brick and Tile for 25 years, National Carriers Inc. and USD 431 school district as a bus driver.
Breit was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and lifetime member of Knights of Columbus Council 1521, both of Hoisington.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Richard J. Breit of Great Bend and John R. Breit of Hoisington; three grandsons, Mathew J. Breit of Great Bend, Jeremy Ray Breit and Jakob Wayne Breit, both of Hoisington; one brother, Leon R. Breit of Hays; and one sister, Joan M. Breit of North Newton. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Patricia L. Haas and Bernadette Breit.
Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. today, followed by Knights of Columbus rosary, both at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. Funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 12, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hoisington, with Father Pascal Klein and Father Trong Tran officiating. Interment will occur at a later date. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Herbert Paul Stimmel 1926-2004
HOISINGTON — Herbert Paul Stimmel, 78, died June 10 at his residence. He was born March 8, 1926, in East St. Louis, Ill., the son of William G. Stimmel and Edith O. Weir. He married
Esther Leona Denning July 23, 1953, at Aurora, Colo. A resident of Denver, Colo., for 43 years, Otis for 12 years and Hoisington since 2000, he was retired from J&J Welding and Fabrication in Denver.
Stimmel was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Bradley Leiker of Hoisington; one daughter, Peggy Talbert of Bennett, Colo.; one sister, Ruth Thompson of Duncanville, Texas; nine grandchildren; and three great-great-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry Stimmel and Sam Stimmel; and one sister, Eva Mae Smith.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington, with the Rev. Wayne Flanders officiating. Burial will be at Hoisington cemetery with military graveside rites. Harlan R. Boye 1931-2004
MARSHFIELD, Mo. — Harlan R. Boye, son of Orian Arvine Boye and Bertha Marie (Besthorn) Boye, was born April 18, 1931, in Holyrood and passed away after a long illness at 12:36 a.m. on June 5 in Webco Manor Nursing Home in Marshfield, Mo.
Harlan was born and raised in Holyrood, where he became interested in music and served as his church organist for years. His college years were spent at Colorado University where he studied music and during this time was in the Air Force Reserves. He taught music in Buena Vista, Colo., and also in Tribune. This is where he met and married
his wife, Mary Jo Woofter.
Harlan went on to pursue and obtain his master’s degree in music and his master’s degree in school administration. He held principalships at Eagle County High School in Colorado and at Hoisington High School in Hoisington. He later operated a flower shop in Hoisington for many years. His retirement was enjoyed in Marshfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Duane.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo of Marshfield; his son, Mark Boye of Morrison, Colo.; his daughter, Marna Coddington and her husband, Kelly, and their family, all of Fair Grove, Mo.
Memorial services, under the direction of Fraker Funeral Home, Marshfield, will be at 11 a.m. today in the Marshfield United Methodist Church, with Rev. Lynn Dyke officiating.
At Mr. Boye’s request, his body was donated to the St. Louis University School of Medicine, St. Louis, Mo.

Freda G. Gosselin 1922-2004
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Freda G. Gosselin, 81, of Schenectady, N.Y., and formerly of Great Bend, died suddenly on Monday, May 24.
She was born in Barre, Vt., July 21, 1922. She was employed as a supervisor at Fuller Brush-Sarah Lee Corporation for 35 years. She was a member of Great Bend Eagles Club, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and Moose Club. She loved bowling and Bingo. She was a volunteer for St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend.
She is survived by her son, Roland J. Gosselin Jr.; three daughters, Mrs. Rachel Dupont, Linda Florence and Ramona Gosselin, all of Schenectady; one sister, Mrs. Ivy Myers of Burlington, Vt.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a longtime companion, Clyde Hause of Great Bend. She was preceded in death by her husband, and son Richard Gosselin.
