Blanche A. Soukup 1913 - 2004
WILSON — Blanche A. Soukup, 90, of Wilson, died Jan. 2 at Salina Regional Health Center in Salina. She was born Dec. 1, 1913 at Wilson to Charles and Blanche Lilak Malir.
A lifetime resident of the Dorrance/Wilson area she was a homemaker. She married
Louis Soukup. He preceded her in death in 1982.
Mrs. Soukup was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Altar Society, and Daughters of Isabella all of Wilson.
Survivors include one son Alvin Soukup of Dorrance, one daughter Vera Ehrlich of Wilson, 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son Roy Soukup, and one grandson Alvin Soukup Jr.
Vigil will be at 4 p.m. today at the parish. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Jerome Morgan officiating. Burial will be held at St. Wenceslaus Catholic cemetery in Wilson. Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Foster Mortuary in Wilson. Katharyne D. Eberhart 1919-2004
Katharyne D. Eberhart, 84, homemaker, of Great Bend, passed into the arms of her Lord Jesus Jan. 1 at the Catholic Care Center in Wichita. She was born April 30, 1919, at Pearsonia, Okla., the daughter of Charles L. and Fern G. Schultz Hess. She married
Marvin E. Eberhart June 10, 1939, at Ellinwood. He died Nov. 13, 1993. She lived in Wichita the last 4 1/2 years. She was a homemaker and had lived most of her life in Great Bend and was active in Trinity Lutheran Church.
Survivors include one son, Max Eberhart and his wife, Nina, of Wichita; one daughter, Marva Eberhart of Kansas City, Mo.; one sister, Margaret Damon of Great Bend; grandchildren, Jason Eberhart and his wife, Tara, of Wichita, Jill Simmons and her husband, David, of Atlanta, Ga., and Vanessa Pollock and her husband, Charlie, of New Jersey; great-grandchildren, Keaton Eberhart, Reece Eberhart and Hudson Pollock; and nephews, Donald Damon and Kenneth Damon, both of Great Bend.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend, with the Rev. Jeffrey Crane officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to service time Monday, all at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church of Great Bend, Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Wichita or Catholic Care Center of Wichita, in care of the funeral home. Beulah Marie Baines 1917-2003
LARNED — Beulah Marie Baines, 86, died Dec. 29 at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Larned. She was born June 19, 1917, at Rose Hill, the daughter of Walter Theodore and Dora Carlena Goodman Rountree. She married
Harold Baines Sept. 26, 1960, at Junction City. He died Oct. 4, 1997. A resident of Larned since 1998, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Frank Wedge of Larned and Jimmie Baines of Manhattan; one granddaughter and three great-grandchildren.
Cremation took place and the family will have a memorial service at a later date. Morell Funeral Home in Larned is in charge of arrangements. Jan. 2, 2004
Eileen R. Morrill 1914-2003
LARNED — Eileen R. Morrill, 89, died Dec. 25 at Larned Healthcare Center in Larned. She was born July 6, 1914, at Wichita, the daughter of John Charles and Gladys Edna Leper Rose. She married
Amos Dickerson Dec. 24, 1937, at Fort Worth, Texas. He died July 1973. She married
Ernest Albert Morrill Dec. 19, 1974, at Galesburg, Ill. He died Jan. 27, 2002. A resident of Larned since 1998, coming from Texas, she was a retired school teacher and homemaker.
Survivors include one son, Edgar Dean Dickerson of Garrison, Iowa; one daughter, Gwenda Thomas of Toddville, Iowa; two brothers; two sisters; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and there are no services planned. Memorials may be sent to Larned Heathcare Center in care of Morell Funeral Home in Larned. Jan. 2, 2004
Janet M. Schwartz 1956-2003
WICHITA. — Janet M. Schwartz, 47, died Dec. 31 at Circle of Life Assisted Living Center, Wichita. She was born Feb. 29, 1956 at Hoisington, the daughter of Raymond J. and Eleanor A. Kaiser Schwartz. She grew up in Hoisington and was a 1974 graduate of Hoisington High school. After school, she worked and resided in Wichita. She was a dental assistant.
Schwartz was a member of St, John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hoisington.
Survivors include three brothers, Ronald Schwartz of Kansas City, Mo., Mike Schwartz of Wichita and Alan Schwartz of Pratt, and four sisters, Debbie Tessler of Eugene, Ore., and Brenda Rios, Judy Cooper and Amy Schmidt, all of Wichita.
Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, Hoisington. Funeral will be a 10 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Pascal Klein officiating. David L. Benintendi 1966-2003
TOPEKA — David L. Benintendi, 37, died Dec. 29 at St. John. He was born Oct. 26, 1966, the son of Harold Ray and Erika Benintendi. He was a 1985 graduate of St. John High School, graduated summa cum laude with an associate of science degree from Pratt Community College in 1987, received a psychology degree in 1990 from University of Kansas, bachelor of social work from KU in 1993, and received a master of social work in 1994 from St. Louis University. He married
Kelli Jo Eads May 26, 1996, in Lawrence. A resident of Topeka, coming from St. John, he was a mental health clinician.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his mother of Topeka; and one sister, Kathy Bassett of Topeka.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Minnis Chapel in St. John, with Matthew Spurgin officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Park cemetery in St. John. Memorials are suggested to Topeka Rescue Mission or Headquarters Counseling Center, both in care of the funeral chapel. Jan. 2, 2004
Justino Delgado Vieyra Sr. 1937-2003
Tino Vieyra Sr., 66, passed away Dec. 29, 2003, at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend, leaving behind his family and friends whom he loved dearly.
He was born on June 1, 1937, in Sanford, the son of Pedro and Margaret Delgado Vieyra.
Growing up in the Larned area, he attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and Larned High School. Shortly after, he joined the Army.
He was a resident of Hutchinson for many years and was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in South Hutchinson. In the year 2000, he moved to Great Bend and was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
He is survived by one son, Tino Vieyra Jr. of Mobile, Ala.; and six daughters, Terri Wilson of Independence, Mo., Brenda Vieyra of Clarksville, Tenn., Deidre Baker and husband John of Kinsley, Lisa Vieyra Frame of Los Angeles, Calif., Sissy Saindon and husband Joe, and Mary Schridde and husband Brian, all of Great Bend; a companion and caregiver, Donna Goode; grandchildren, April, Andrea, Brandon, Christina, Mersadies, David, Jim, Shayla, Jessica, Jason, Tyler, Taylor, Zachary and Joshua; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Timothy, Kara and Haley; one brother, Genaro “Hank” Vieyra of Stafford; and four sisters, Mary and Inez Vieyra and Antonia Martinez, all of Hutchinson, and Cecilia “Sissy” Guterriez of Wichita. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Pedro Vieyra Jr. and Santos Vieyra.
Parish rosary will be at 8 p.m. today and funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, both at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson, with Father Ned J. Blick presiding. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Memorials may be made to Parkinson Disease Foundation, in care of Elliott Mortuary of Hutchinson.

Anna Bakumenko 1917-2003
KINSLEY — Anna Bakumenko, 86, died Dec. 30 at Edwards County Hospital in Kinsley. She was born Dec. 13, 1917, at Minsck, Russia. She married
Alex Bakumenko Nov. 13, 1945, in Germany. He died Jan. 7, 1987. A resident of Kinsley since 1954, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Bakumenko was a member of Kinsley United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Val Bakumenko of Rozel and George Bakumenko of Kinsley; and one grandchild.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at McKillip Memorial Chapel in Kinsley, with the Rev. David Bell officiating. Burial will be at Hillside cemetery in Kinsley. Memorials are suggested to Medicalodge of Kinsley, in care of the funeral home. Jan. 2, 2004
Irene Knoll 1920-2003
Irene Knoll, 83, of Great Bend, died Dec. 30 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center in Great Bend. She was born May 27, 1920, at Catherine, the daughter of Edward and Pauline Leiker Meier. She married
Martin Knoll Nov. 5, 1938, at Hays. He died Jan. 6, 1996. A resident of Great Bend since 1944, coming from La Crosse, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Knoll was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend.
Survivors include two sons, Donald Knoll and Richard Knoll, both of Great Bend; one daughter, Mary Ellen Kingston of Odessa, Texas; one brother, Joseph Meier of Larned; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Martin Knoll Jr. and Robert Knoll; two daughters, Rita Decker and Cecilia Ann Schneider; and one brother, Alfred Meier.

Fred L. Smith 1953-2003
BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Fred L. Smith, 50, died Dec. 29 at Northwest Medical Center, Benton County, after an illness. He was born July 15, 1953, in Hotchkiss, Colo., the son of Allen James and Mary Ann Mangan Smith. A resident of Bentonville for five years, he was an operations manager at Star Complex in Jane, Mo., for Wal Mart.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Smith of Fayetteville, Ark., and Matthew Riche of Bentonville; one daughter, Andrea Elaine Smith of Bentonville; two brothers, Carl Smith of Houston, Texas, and Ed Smith of Bixby, Okla.; one sister, Tish McCluskey of Great Bend; one half-sister, Geneva Smith of Gunnison, Colo.; his grandmother, Iris Mangan of Hutchinson; and one granddaughter. He was preceded in death by one half-sister, Kathy Smith.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Anderson, Mo., with the Rev. Pat Jeffers officiating. Burial will be at Jane cemetery in Jane, Mo. Kathleen V. Yeager 1911-2004
LARNED — Kathleen V. Yeager, 92, died Feb. 26 at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Larned. She was born July 15, 1911, at Macksville, the daughter of John and Ella Bryan McMorran. She was a graduate of the University of Kansas. She married
Robert Reed Yeager Sept. 28, 1933, at Sedgwick. A longtime resident of Larned, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Yeager was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Women and PEO, all of Larned.
Survivors include Her husband of the home, one son, Richard Allen of Portland, Ore.; one daughter, Ann Stanton of Larned; one sister, Helen Adams of Larned; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Don McMorran.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Jim Hawthorne officiating. Burial will be at Larned Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Morell Funeral Home in Larned. Memorials are suggested to the church in care of the funeral home.
