NEWTON — Lawrence R. “Bud” Schroeder, 72, died Oct. 24 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, of Wichita. He was born Feb. 11, 1931, at Canton, the son of Roland and Laura Finkle Schroeder. He married
Marion Zorn May 31, 1955, at Odin. A resident of Newton, he was a retired maintenance supervisor for Newton Medical Center. Schroeder was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion, all of Newton. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Alan Schroeder of Wichita, and Keith Schroeder and Loren Schroeder, both of Newton; two daughters, Donna Brenneman and Elaine Prouty, both of Newton; one brother, Galen Schroeder of Chandler, Ariz.; one sister, Arlen Bustamonte of Hilo, Hawaii; and eight grandchildren. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at the church with the Rev. John Hotze officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Church cemetery in Newton. Helen Ethel Shoop 1918-2003
ST. JOHN — Helen Ethel Shoop, 85, died Oct. 25 at Leisure Homestead in Stafford. She was born July 6, 1918, at Sterling. She graduated from Kansas State University with a bachelor of science degree in home economics. She married
Homer Albert Shoop May 26, 1940, at Sterling. He preceded her in death. A resident of St. John, she was a homemaker and a retired school teacher from the Towanda, Byers and Otis school systems. Mrs. Shoop was a member of Antrim United Methodist Church in rural St. John, United Methodist Women, Hesperian Club, Mothers Club, Antrim EHU and Chi Omega Sorority at KSU. Survivors include one son, Donald H. Shoop of Fargo, N.D.; three daughters, Jean Hixson of WaKeeney, Karen Nelson of Seattle, Wash., and Rebecca Hunley of St. John; one brother, Leslie Heter of Andover; one sister, Millie Gard of Salina; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack Heter, Thomas J. Heter and Waid Heter. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at the church with the Rev. Roberta A. Fall officiating. Elizabeth C. Lecture, 94, of Great Bend, died Oct. 24 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation in Great Bend. She was born March 16, 1909, at Great Bend, the daughter of Ira H. and Nellie Gertrude DeLong Clark. She married
Tom L. Lecture at Chicago, Ill. He died June 5, 1991. A resident of Great Bend since 1931, coming from Chicago, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Lecture was a member of First United Methodist Church, PEO and OES. Survivors include one son, Tom C. Lecture of Great Bend; one daughter, Linda Smith of Smyrna, Tenn.; and one grandson. She was preceded in death by one brother, Dwight Clark; and five sisters, Bess Clark, Hazel Healzer, Flora Jane Beasley, Louise Hedge and Ethel Wright. HOLYROOD — Sylvia A. Folk, 91, died Oct. 22 at her home in Holyrood. She was born July 12, 1912, at Holyrood, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Schultz Klema. She married
Guy Folk Aug. 25, 1941, at Sharon Springs. He died Dec. 22, 1969. A lifetime resident of Holyrood, she was a homemaker and a nurses aide at Ellsworth Good Samaritan Retirement Village for 15 years. Survivors include one son, Ronald Folk of Holcomb; one daughter, Sharon Poor of Hutchinson; five grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Phyllis. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ cemetery in Holyrood, with the Rev. Mary Lou Klein officiating. There is no visitation. Raymond Leslie Crist 1940-2003
MINNEAPOLIS — Raymond Leslie Crist, 63, died Oct. 27 at Salina Regional Health Center. He was born Oct. 12, 1940, in Florence, the son of Raymond M. and Virginia Young Crist. A resident of Minneapolis, he worked for Santa Fe Railroad in the track department. Crist was a member of Valley United Methodist Church of Marion, Minneapolis Noon Lions Club and Minneapolis City Council. Survivors include his wife, Leanna Crist, of the home; two daughters, Leslie Belvill of Minneapolis and Lisa Crist of Hoisington; his mother of McPherson; one brother, Larry M. Crist of Salem, Ill.; one sister, Sue Nichols of Big Pine, Wyo.; and three grandchildren. Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church of Minneapolis. ROZEL — John G. Price, 91, died Oct. 23 at Larned Healthcare. He was born Oct. 20, 1912, at Rush County, the son of Frank and Effie Riggs Price. A lifetime Rozel resident, he was a retired farmer, a rancher and a horse trainer. He married
Amanda I. Schenk, Nov. 14, 1934. She died April 1, 2003. Price was a member of Hope Luthran Church in Rush Center, Rozel Lions Club and Larned Saddle Club. Survivors include one son, John G. Price Jr. and his wife Shirley of Rozel; one daughter, Donna Wells of Newton; one daughter-in-law, Sharon Price of Larned; two sisters, Ola Wolter and Opal Meier, both of LaCrosse; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Larry Price; one son-in-law Glenn Wells; three sisters, Carrie Kitch, Blanche Appel and Eva O’Brien; and five brothers, Clarence Price, Charles Price, Harley Price, Clovis Price and Jack Price. Harry W. Harms 1912-2003
LARNED — Harry W. Harms, 91, died Oct. 23 at Rice County Hospital in Lyons. He was born Feb. 17, 1912, at Timken, the son of John and Karolina Metta Dunekack Harms. He was a 1931 Great Bend High School graduate and the first National Merit Scholar from GBHS. He received a teaching certificate at Fort Hays State College. He married
Anna A. Hagerman Sept. 12, 1948 at Great Bend. A lifetime resident of Rush and Pawnee counties, he taught for five years at District 13 and Timken, was a men’s clothing store salesman for Schnack Clothing Store and Jack Standish, and a carpenter for Kazmaier Construction. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, was a training sergeant for two years before going to France where he was wounded in January, 1945. He received the Purple Heart. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, a trustee, taught a high school Bible school class for 20 years, was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, all of Larned. Survivors include his wife, of the home; one son, Kenneth W. Harms of Shawnee; one daughter, Elaine A. Conness of WaKeeney; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Lester Harms; and three sisters, Alvena Petersen, Clara Harms and Albertena W. Folkerts. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Harold E. Erway Oct. 2, 1948, at Larned. A lifetime Larned resident, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Erway was a member of Larned United Methodist Church. Survivors include two sons, Lyle Erway and Kale Erway, both of Larned; one daughter, Beth Zook of Larned; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Leila E. Schneider, 81, of Great Bend died Oct. 23 at Pompano Beach, Fla. She was born Feb. 10, 1922 at Bison, the daughter of Alexander and Elizabeth Wilhelm Litzenberger. She married
Leonard W. Schneider June 30, 1947 at Larned. He died July 11, 1999. She was a lifelong resident of Barton, Rush and Pawnee counties, living in Albert for 53 years after moving there from Rozel. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, St. Rose Altar Society and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. Survivors include two sons, Thomas L. Schneider of Oakland Park, Fla., and Timothy M. Schneider, Santa Monica, Calif.; four daughters, Gloria Holstrom of Blue Springs, Mo., Connie Brady, of Albert, Marla Napolitano, of Great Bend, and Geralyn “Geri” Schneider of Pompano Beach, Fla.; one sister, Lois Stull, of Hutchinson; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Terry Schneider; two brothers, Leland Litzenberger and Lavern Litzenberger; and one sister, Lola Litzenberger. OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla., — Cleta Crawford Hendricks, 68, died Oct. 21 at Deaconess Select Specialty Hospital in Oklahoma City. She was born Aug. 15, 1935, at Clay Center, the daughter of Otis and Emma Cowing Mendenhall. She was a 1953 graduate of Clay Center Community High School. She married

Al Hendricks in 1987. He died in 2001. A resident of Oklahoma City, formerly of Clay Center and Lyons, she was a former employee of Lyons State Bank and Oklahoma City Zoo. Mrs. Hendricks was a member of First Baptist Church in Lyons. Survivors include three sons, Greg Crawford of McPherson, Ross White of Dallas, Texas, and Derick White of Columbus, Ohio; two daughters, Penny Bosack and Stacey Bosack, both of Great Bend; one stepson, David Hendricks of Edmond, Okla.; one stepdaughter, Julie Ragel of Shawnee, Okla.; and 10 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Cleo. Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Greenwood cemetery in Clay Center with the Rev. Daniel Kline officiating. Mrs. Werhahn was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was an elder and deacon, member of Prebyterian’s Women Association of the Rebekah Circle, American Legion Auxiliary and 50-plus years member of Eastern Star, all of Great Bend. Survivors include her husband of the home; one daughter, Judy Boyle of Olathe; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Buehler was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in McPherson. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II. Survivors include one son, Lynn Buehler of Plant City, Fla.; two daughters, Nancy Peirano of Garden City and Deanna Baugh of Bennington; four brothers, Dale Buehler of Wilson, Orval Buehler of Mullinville, Glen Buehler of California and Theodore Buehler Jr. of Russell; three sisters, Veta Pepitone of Louisiana, Joyce Podlena of Wilson and Ulalla Drake of Missouri; 17 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren.
