Wanda Lou Henderson 1933-2003
LARNED — Wanda Lou Henderson, 69, died July 1 at her home in Larned. She was born Aug. 9, 1933, at Russellville, Ark., the daughter of Blynn and Maxine Bowen Howell. She married Glen Henderson March 22, 1952, at Russellville. A resident of Larned, coming from Centerville, Ark., she was a homemaker. Mrs. Henderson was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Great Bend. Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, Dr. Rusty Henderson of Ft. Smith, Ark., and Kevin Henderson of Great Bend; one sister, LaDonna Helms of Russellville; and three grandchildren. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Revs. Dwight Dozier and J.P. McCamey officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Resthaven cemetery in Russellville. Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer’s Association in care of the funeral home. July 2, 2003

Ernest Edward Brocher 1913-2003
Ernest Edward Brocher, 89, of Great Bend, died July 1 at Cheyenne Meadows Nursing Home in Hoisington.
He was born Aug. 2, 1913, at Beeler, the son of Aubrey Climer and Janie Thompson Brocher.
He married Romeyn Thyra Mae Lundquist Jan. 12, 1934, at McPherson.
A resident of Great Bend since 1951, coming from McPherson, he was owner/operator of Ernie’s Truck Repair in Great Bend, retiring in 1985.
Brocher was a member of First Church of the Nazarene of Great Bend and Shrine Club.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Richard “Bud” Brocher of Great Bend; three daughters, Donna Reed and Mary Smith, both of Great Bend, and Jan Reames of Oklahoma City, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ethel Brocher, Florence Brown and Helen Anderson.
He was preceded in death by one son, Howard D. Brocher; two daughters, Patricia Brocher and Diana O’Brien; two brothers, Leslie E. Brocher and Francis Brocher; five sisters, Edith Johnston, Louetta Kidwell, Buelah Rodgers, Georgia Bates and Bertha Brocher.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend with the Rev. Mark Pennington officiating.
Burial will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Elmwood cemetery in Lindsborg.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, with the family receiving friends on Friday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Cheyenne Meadows Nursing Home or American Diabetes Association in care of the funeral home. July 2, 2003

Alverna M. Holopirek 1925-2003
LA CROSSE — Alverna M. Holopirek, 78, died July 1 at Rush County Nursing Home in La Crosse. She was born Jan. 29, 1925, in rural Barton County, the daughter of John Edward and Lena Kazamier Jurgensen. She married Arthur “Bud” Holopirek Aug. 27, 1948, at Hoisington. A resident of La Crosse since 1956, coming from Rush Center, she was a homemaker and former owner and operator of Sale Barn Cafe. Mrs. Holopirek was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary of La Crosse. Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Rudy Holopirek of Hesston; two daughters, Sherri Stevens of La Crosse and Sherleen Shannon of Ellis; two brothers, Edward Jurgensen of Wichita and Merle Jurgensen of Great Bend; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Stephanie Shannon; three brothers, Donald “Donnie” Jurgensen, Leonard Jurgensen and Maurice Jurgensen; and three sisters, Edna Orebaugh, Lois A. Jurgensen and Loretta M. Jurgensen. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at United Methodist Church of La Crosse with the Rev. Marilyn Christmore officiating. Burial will be at La Crosse City Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m to 8 p.m. today at Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m., and from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Thursday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Central Rush County Emergency Medical Service or Rush County Nursing Home, both in care of the funeral home. July 2, 2003

Inez B. Lewis 1900-2003
HUTCHINSON — Inez B. Lewis, 102, died June 28 at Hutchinson Good Samaritan Village. She was born Aug. 6, 1900, at Marshall, Mo., the daughter of Taylor and Melinda Meade Slaughter. She married Grady Bristow in September 1930 at Wichita. He died Jan. 18, 1949. She married Andrew C. Lewis on Oct. 30, 1954, at Clovis, N.M. He died July 1987. A resident of Hutchinson since 1982, coming from Pratt, she was a housekeeper for Dr. Pittman’s office of Pratt. Mrs. Lewis was a member of the Bethel AME Church and Order of the Eastern Star No. 48, both of Hutchinson. Survivors include three nieces, Alfreda Micheaux of Wichita, Mildred Lewis of Creedmoor, N.C., and Alice Hall of Hutchinson; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Johnson and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel with the Rev. Betty Hanna-Witherspoon officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Greenlawn cemetery at Pratt. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. today and Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church or American Heart Association, in care of the funeral home. July 1, 2003

Forrest Hayden ‘Fergy’ Ferguson 1938-2003
TUMBLING SHOALS, Ark. — Forrest Hayden “Fergy” Ferguson, 65, died June 27 at McClelland Veterans Administration Hospital in Little Rock, Ark. He was born April 29, 1938, in Hardy, Ark., the son of Forrest R. and Doris L. Richardson Ferguson. He was a graduate of Hoisington High School. He was a resident of Arkansas since 1979, coming from Hoisington. Ferguson attended Chastain Chapel General Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy “Dot” Ferguson, of the home; one son, Steven Ferguson of Tumbling Shoals; one daughter, Cindy King of Hoisington; his mother, Doris Kisner of Great Bend; two brothers, Donald Gene Ferguson of Great Bend and Dale Wayne Ferguson of Hoisington; three sisters, Shirley Detter of Hoisington, Debra Grimes and Carolyn Abercrombie of Great Bend; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Ray Ferguson. Funeral was Monday at the church with the Revs. Jim French and Terry Mote officiating. Burial was at Turkey Pen cemetery near Hardy. Memorials are suggested to Cancer Research or the church, in care of Heber Springs Funeral Home of Heber Springs, Ark. July 1, 2003

Michael E. Sheil 1930-2003
Michael E. Sheil, 72, of Great Bend, died June 28 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center in Great Bend. He was born Sept. 9, 1930, at Cherryvale, the son of Edward and Pauline Grant Sheil. A resident of Great Bend, coming from Denver, Colo., he was a foreign language teacher in the Denver public school system. Sheil was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church of Great Bend. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served in the Korean War. Survivors include two sisters, Nita Jensen of Spokane, Wash., and Ruth Murray of Great Bend. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Sheil and John Sheil; and one sister, Teresa Haag. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date at Great Bend Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Great Bend Public Library, in care of Bryant Funeral Home of Great Bend. July 1, 2003

Merle E. Trout 1906-2003
PRATT — Merle E. Trout, 96, died June 28 at Pratt Regional Medical Center. He was born Nov. 12, 1906, at Pratt, the son of Clifford C. and Alta Garrison Trout. He married Erna Viola Gagelman Nov. 5, 1933. She died June 5, 1991. He married Novadea League Bowers Oct. 28, 1995, at Pratt. A resident of Pratt most of his life, he was a retired owner and operator of Trout Motors auto dealership in Pratt. Trout was a member of First United Methodist Church, Western Savings board, United Way board, RSVP advisory board, PCC Endowment Association, president of Lions Club and president of Pratt Chamber of Commerce, all of Pratt. Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Merleen Bean of Springfield, Mo.; three stepsons, Ora Bowers of Langdon, Darrel Bowers of Bartlesville, Okla., and Keith Shelman of Iuka; one stepdaughter, Luella Waterman of Langdon; one grandson; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Gladys Lilly; one grandson, David Bean; one stepdaughter, Yvonne Shelman; and stepmother, Ella Gillett. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at the church with the Rev. Kendal Utt and Chaplain Fred Pinkerton officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund or Multiple Sclerosis Society, both in care of Larrison Mortuary in Pratt. July 1, 2003

Robert B. Kaiser Sr. 1928-2003
CLAFLIN — Robert B. Kaiser Sr., 75, died June 28 at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. He was born Feb. 20, 1928, at Barton County, the son of Joe F. and Mary Meyeres Kaiser. He married Teresa M. Kowalsky Krier Nov. 20, 1957, at Dubuque. A lifetime resident of Barton County, he was a farmer and stockman. Kaiser was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Knights of Columbus, all of Claflin, and Farm Bureau. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean War. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Bob J. Kaiser of Odin and David W. Kaiser of Claflin; three stepsons, Thomas D. Krier of Excelsior Springs, Mo., Dennis J. Krier of Great Bend and Pete L. Krier of Claflin; one stepdaughter, Sheryl A. Oberle of Janesville, Wis.; three brothers, Leo N. Kaiser of Claflin, Louis Kaiser of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Don Kaiser of Great Bend; one sister, Lucille Beck of Beaver; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Barry Kaiser; one brother, Richard L. Kaiser; and one sister, Mary Elizabeth Kaiser. Funeral was Monday at the church. Burial was at Claflin cemetery with military rites provided by VFW Post 8668 and 7428, and American Legion Post 786. Memorials are suggested to the church or Claflin EMS, both in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. July 1, 2003

Clara May Yourdon 1912-2003
LARNED — Clara May Yourdon, 91, died June 26 at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Larned. She was born June 3, 1912, at Kiowa County, the daughter of Samuel G. and Mertle Schooley Kelly. She married Lloyd Oliver Yourdon Aug. 16, 1933, at Dodge City. He died July 15, 1981. A lifetime resident of Larned, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Yourdon was a member of First Christian Church in Larned. Survivors include one son, Fred Yourdon of Reno, Nev.; two daughters, Barbara Beth of Larned and Donna Kopek of Bolingbrook, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Dale Kelly, Neal Kelly and Earl Kelly; one sister, Marie Swisher; one grandson; and one great-grandson. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Larned cemetery with the Rev. Dan Lundgren officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, in care of the mortuary. July 1, 2003

Orville Jones 1917-2003
RUSSELL — Orville Jones, 85, died June 27 at University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City. He was born Sept. 11, 1917, at Bartlesville, Okla., the son of Charlie and Bonnie Beckham Jones. He married Orpha Pearl Ogle Oct. 7, 1939, at Springfield, Colo. She died Nov. 14, 1994. He married Marilyn Ann Norman Stone Aug. 26, 1995, at Russell. A resident of Russell, coming from Oklahoma, Colorado and western Kansas, he was employed by Cities Service Oil Company in Russell for 32 years as a roustabout and production foreman and was a farmer. Jones was a member of First Southern Baptist Church, a former member of First Baptist Church, a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of Masonic Lodge, all of Russell. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving during World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; three daughters, Sharon Hilgenberg and Orma Bilbrey, both of Russell, and Diane Van Sike of Wichita; three step-daughters, Rebecca Moor and Amber Renee Cartwright, both of Wichita, and Ramona Parker of Mission Viejo, Calif.; one sister, Daisy Mae Blackford of Ft. Smith, Ark.; seven grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; and one great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by one brother, William Jones. Funeral was Monday at the church. Burial with military honors was at Russell City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of Pohlman’s Mortuary in Russell. July 1, 2003

Sylva Mae Hromadnik 1912-2003
COSTA MESA, Calif. — Sylva Mae Hromadnik, 90, died June 21 in Costa Mesa. She was born Sept. 17, 1912, in Cherryvale, the daughter of Albert F. and Daisy Weite. She married Arthur Hromadnik in May 1945 at Wichita. He died Dec. 12, 1995. A resident of Costa Mesa for more than 50 years, she was a real estate agent. Mrs. Hromadnik was a member of Costa Mesa Board of Realtors and the California Association of Realtors. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. A private family burial will be at a later date at Holy Name cemetery near Bushton. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, in care of Kimple Funeral Home of Ellinwood. July 1, 2003
