SYLVIA — Maxine L. Kirkhuff Litchfield, 81, died May 31 at Leisure Homestead in Stafford. She was born Dec. 8, 1921, near Turon. She was a 1939 graduate of Turon High School and Southwestern College in Winfield. She married
Alpha Vice Litchfield May 30, 1948, at Turon. He died Dec. 11, 1995. A resident of the Sylvia and Zenith communities, she was a teacher in Wellington, Turon, Stafford and Sylvia, and was a homemaker. Mrs. Litchfield was a member of Zenith Community Church, a representative to Southwestern Presbytery in Kansas, a founding member of Hutchinson Chapter Aglow and a 56-year member of American Legion Auxiliary. She was an original member in the Great Plains Passion Play. Survivors include three sons, Steven Litchfield of Olathe, the Rev. Don Litchfield of Kokomo, Ind., and Marshall Litchfield of Bonner Springs; one daughter, Louise “Lou Ann” Markhart of Hutchinson; two sisters, Glennys Kent of Winfield and Phyllis Edwards of Lakeland, Fla.; and nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Rodney and one sister, Avis Hughes. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church with burial at Neola Cemetery. Glen L. Thomson 1937-2003
LARNED — Glen L. Thomson, 66, died May 29 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He was born April 15, 1937, at Larned, the son of Ralph and Elsie Bauer Thomson. He married
Linda Peterson Feb. 6, 1970, at McPherson. A Larned resident since 1977, coming from McPherson, he was a psychiatric aide for the Larned State Hospital, and owner and operator of Larned Econ-O-Wash.He was a foster father since 1987. Thomson was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Larned, NRA, Fort Larned Arms Inc., International Harvester Collector Club, Coca-Cola Collectors Club and AARP. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Gary Thomson of Ft. Worth, Texas; one brother, Don Thomson of Hutchinson; and one grandchild. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Debra Lou Thomson and one brother Dale Thomson. Funeral will be 10 this morning at church with the Rev. Ron Day officiating. Kenneth A. Hutton 1921-2003
HOLYROOD — Kenneth A. Hutton, 81, died June 1 at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita. He was born Dec. 22, 1921, at Claflin, the son of Alvin and Frieda Eggers Hutton. He married
Mary Frances Wesely Oct. 30, 1943, at Wilson. A resident of Holyrood, he was a policeman for the City of Holyrood, head of city maintenance and a farmer. Hutton was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Holyrood and a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Tom Hutton of Jefferson City, Mo.; two daughters, Mary Woodward of Lee, N.H. and Laurie Hutton-Corr of Convent Station, N.J.; one sister, Harriet Downie of Kansas City; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Michele Petermann; and one sister, Grace Bush. Rosary will be at 10 a.m. followed by the funeral at 10:30 a.m., both Wednesday at the church with the Rev. LARNED — Larry E. Price, 63, died May 30 at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. He was born July 26, 1939, at Larned, the son of John and Amanda Schenk Price Sr. He married
Sharon B. Bruntzel Jan. 14, 1956, at Rozel. A Pawnee County resident most of his life, he was a general contractor for 20 years. He loved the Lord and was an active member of First Assembly of God Church in Great Bend. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Gene Price of Larned; one daughter, Tonya Burton of Medicine Lodge; his father of Larned; one brother, John Price Jr. of Rozel; one sister, Donna Wells of Newton; and five grandchildren, Anna, David, Jennifer, Joseph and Michael. He was preceded in death by his mother, Amanda Price. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev.s Dwight Dozier and Rodger Alford officiating. Burial will be at Larned Cemetery. Mildred Berger Aug. 10, 1947 at Jetmore. A resident of Jetmore, he was a farmer, stockman, and commercial sand hauler. Spreier was a member of United Methodist Church in Rozel. Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Diane Spreier of Larned; two sisters, Opal Berger of Jetmore, and Dorothy Constant of Larned; two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Duane Frank Spreier; one brother, Fred Spreier Jr.; and four sisters, Laura Wiedemann, Majorie Gordier, Esther Spreier, and Viola Balman. Lorene F. Johnson, 86, of Great Bend, died July 29 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Sept. 4, 1916, at Canton, Ill., the daughter of Herbert and Donna Crosley Kramer. She married
Harold E. Johnson Sept. 4, 1934, at Plymouth, Ind. He died Aug. 12, 1973. A resident of Great Bend for five years, coming from Longmont, Colo., she was a homemaker. Mrs. Johnson was a member of Church of the Brethren in Canton. Survivors include two sons, Lee Johnson of Longmont and Herbert L. Johnson of Blue Eye, Mo.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Elnora Carter and Bernice Hackett. Beverly M. Choitz Nov. 29, 1953, at Ellsworth. A resident of Denver, he was formerly of Great Bend. Survivors include his wife of the home; four sons, Michael Dougherty of Littleton, Colo., Randy Dougherty of Londwood, Fla., Kevin Dougherty of New Millport, Pa., and Daniel Dougherty of Aurora, Colo.; one daughter, Gaye Becker of Greeley, Colo.; one brother, Neil Dougherty of Denver; one sister, Mayme Rolfs of Denver; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Arlene Newsome, 66, of Great Bend, died July 25 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus in Wichita. She was born Dec. 26, 1936, at Great Bend, the daughter of Everette Alan and Mary Elsie Neisler Smith. She married
Norman Newsome in 1955 at Great Bend. He died Dec. 6, 1983. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Newsome was a cook and volunteer for the Argonne Rebels. Survivors include a companion, Kenneth Whitmore of Great Bend; three sons, Mark A. Newsome of Danville, Ind., Michael E. Newsome and Kevin J. Newsome, both of Great Bend; one sister, Dora Applegate of Great Bend; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Eugene Michael Smith; one sister, Bonnie Krestin; and two grandchildren, Amanda Newsome and Gary A. Wagner. Theodore Bitter Jan. 25, 1931, at Susank. A longtime resident of Hoisington, coming from a farm north of Susank, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Bitter was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and LWML, both of Hoisington. Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, Elmer Bitter of Great Bend and the Rev. Glenn R. Bitter of Topeka; one brother, Adam Schweitzer of Gravette, Ark.; one sister, Martha Grasmick of Rocky Ford; two half-sisters, Bertha Root and Becky Robbins, both of LaJunta, Colo.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. NORTH KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Jim Connor, 59, died July 25 in North Kansas City. He was born Feb. 1, 1944, in Hoisington. He retired as captain from Kansas City, Mo., Police Department in 1996 after serving in the department for 30 years. Survivors include his wife, Patty, of the home; three daughters, Renae Rowley of Overland Park, Laurie Moore of Greenwood, Mo., and Tina Connor of Kansas City, Mo.; two brothers, Bob Connor and John Connor; five sisters, Margaret Ehrlich, Mary Lou Komarek, Jean Flagor, Loretta Ulrey and Barbara Lehning; former wife, LaRae Connor; and seven grandchildren. Thomas Edwin Karst Feb. 18, 1931, in Barton County. He died May 22, 2002. A lifetime resident of Rush and Barton counties, she was a housewife, Avon sales lady and a writer for Hoisington Dispatch. Mrs. Karst was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Galatia. Survivors include two daughters, Merrily Kathleen Collins of Great Bend and Winona Grace Thomas of Salina; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; 15 stepgreat-grandchildren; and nine stepgreat-great-grandchildren. ELKHART — Patsy C. Jacobs, 62, died July 24 at Morton County Care Center in Elkhart. She was born Oct. 22, 1940, at West Plain, Mo., the daughter of Liston and Harriet Nirk Bridwell. She was a resident of Elkhart since 1998, coming from Archer City, Texas, Frederick, Okla., and Ulysses. Mrs. Jacobs attended Freewill Baptist Church of Ulysses. Survivors include one son, Charles Randy Holbert of Provo, Utah; two daughters, Debra Thomas of Tucson, Ariz., and Rhonda Mathena of Rolla; two brothers, Carl Bridwell of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Gary Bridwell of Independence; six sisters, Emily Walsh and Kathy Pierce, both of Elkhart, Joan Hinkle and Dorothy Anderson, both of Ulysses, Darlene Blake of Great Bend and Sherry Harris of Elizabeth, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
