Bob Gene Kelley 1929-2003
ST. JOHN — Bob Gene Kelley, 73, died Jan. 1 at Hutchinson Hospital. He was born Jan. 5, 1929, at New Blaine, Ark., the son of Raymond and Faye Kelley. He graduated from St. John High School in 1948. He married Joan Popp on June 25, 1984, in Hutchinson. A resident of St. John, coming from Haven and Bella Vista, Ark., he was a mechanic for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Co. for 30 years. Kelley was a member of First Baptist Church of St. John. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Lee Engweiler of McPherson; four daughters, Linda S. Luyster of Sterling, Patricia Allison of Phoenix, Ariz., Sherry Nickels of Hutchinson and Mary Miles of Macomb, Ill.; three brothers, Bud Kelley of Sterling, and Bill Kelley and Ben Kelley, both of Lyons; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Bernita Henks and Betty Howell. Memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the church with the Rev. David A. Ford officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Park cemetery of St. John. Memorials are suggested to National Kidney Foundation, in care of Minnis Chapel of St. John. Jan. 3, 2003

Debra S. Bowles 1950-2002
WILSON — Debra S. Bowles, 52, died Dec. 31 at Ellsworth County Medical Center. She was born Nov. 16, 1950, in Ellsworth, the daughter of Dr. Dallas and Evelyn Sula Moeller. A resident of Wilson, coming from Phoenix, Ariz., she was a medical assistant. Bowles was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Wilson. Survivors include her mother and step-father, Evelyn and Anton Sula of Wilson; her father, Dr. Dallas Moeller of Phoenix; one step-son, Kenneth A. Bowles of Wilson; one daughter, Kelsey Youngblood of Phoenix; one brother, Brett Sula of Salina; and two half-brothers, Jan Moeller of Phoenix and Jon Moeller of Los Angeles, Calif. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Foster Mortuary Chapel in Wilson with the Rev. Elaine Lord officiating. Burial will be at Wilson City Cemetery. Friends may until 8 tonight and from 8 a.m. until service time Saturday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Muscular Dystrophy Foundation or Ellsworth County Ambulance Fund, both in care of the funeral home. Jan. 3, 2003

Phoebe Brack 1909-2003
OTIS — Phoebe Brack, 93, died Jan. 1 at Russell Regional Hospital. She was born Nov. 9, 1909, north of Galatia the daughter of Conrad and Mary Steinert Keil. She married Edwin B. Brack on Aug. 16, 1931, at Otis. He died May 18, 1979. A lifetime resident of the Otis and Galatia area, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Brack was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Otis. Survivors include two daughters, Fara Popp of Russell and Mary Ann LeRoy of Wichita; one brother, Alvin Keil of Great Bend; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Sieg Keil, Edwin Keil, Ben Keil and Emanuel Keil, and two sisters, Rubina Keil and Elma Brack. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Jeri Dexheimer officiating. Burial will be at Fairview cemetery of Galatia. Friends may call until 9 tonight at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home of Hoisington. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church or Otis EMS, both in care of the funeral home. Jan. 3, 2003

Faie B. Donner 1910-2003
Faie B. Donner, 92, of Great Bend, died Jan. 1 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born July 27, 1910, in Rush County, the daughter of Emory M. and Julia S. Boyle Whinery. She married Walter Lee Donner on Feb. 20, 1938, at Larned. He died Aug. 14, 1994. A resident of Great Bend since the late 1980s, coming from Norton County, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Donner was a member of United Brethren Church and the Hobby Club, both of Edmond. Survivors include three daughters, Julia Wittig of Great Bend, Grace Harris of District Heights, Md., and Clara Schluntz of Longmont, Colo.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer Whinery and Holland Whinery. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home of Hoisington with the Rev. Dick Ogle officiating. Burial will be at Olivet cemetery in Barton County. Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Bethphage Mission of Ellsworth in care of the funeral home. Jan. 3, 2003

Francis Cleo Long 1938-2002
ELLINWOOD — Francis Cleo Long, 64, died Dec. 31 at Ellinwood District Hospital. He was born Jan. 23, 1938, in Oklahoma City, Okla., the son of Cleo and Rubye Ross Long. He graduated from Chase High School in 1956. He married Geraldine Blackburn Dec. 1, 1956, in Wichita. A longtime residence of Ellinwood, coming from New Mexico, he was a retired owner of Ellinwood Pump and Supply. Survivors include his wife of the home; his mother of Great Bend; four sons, Rick Long, Bob Long, Rob Long and Randy Long, all of Ellinwood; two sisters, Barbara Herbel of Lawrence and Sharon Bradford of Hill City; and 11 grandchildren. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John Lutheran Church in Ellinwood with the Rev. Andy Keltner officiating. Burial will be at Hilltop cemetery in Raymond. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Charter Funeral Home in Great Bend. Family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home. Jan. 2, 2003

Nellie Pearl Conner 1919-2002
ELLINWOOD — Nellie Pearl Conner, 83, died Dec. 30 at Hesston. She was born Aug. 11, 1919, at Bruner, Mo., the daughter of George Washington and Cynthia Cornelia Burke McHaffie. She married Leonard L. Conner Dec. 24, 1937, at Bruner. He died Nov. 5, 1982. A resident of Ellinwood since 1949, she was a homemaker. She was a member of United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Rebekah Lodge, all of Ellinwood. Survivors include one son, George A. Conner of Rogersville, Mo.; three daughters, Betty E. Spangler of Hesston, Janice L. Ensle of Great Bend and Linda J. Gladhart of Wichita; one brother, Burke McHaffie of Bruner; one sister, Goldie Patterson of Rogersville; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Hadley McHaffie, Hollis McHaffie and Otis McHaffie; two sisters, Helen Bracken and Susan McHaffie. Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the church with the Revs. Vernon Maelzer and Bill Wolf officiating. Burial will be at Lakin-Commache cemetery in Ellinwood. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, both at Kimple Funeral Home of Ellinwood. Memorials are suggested to the church in care of the funeral home. Jan. 2, 2003

Raymond J. Spacil 1933-2003
ELLINWOOD — Raymond J. Spacil, 69, died Feb. 25 at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. He was born Nov. 21, 1933, at Ellinwood, the son of Ernest Frank and Alice Marie Batchman Spacil. He was a 1951 graduate of Ellinwood High School. He married Barbara Huff on Aug. 30, 1951, at Ellinwood. He married Jan Wescott on July 7, 1971, at Ellinwood. She preceded him in death. He married Patricia Lewick Branson on Jan. 21, 1984, at Ellinwood. She preceded him in death. A lifetime resident of Stafford and Barton counties, he was a retired farmer and mechanic for StoneRidge Golf Course. Spacil was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Ellinwood. Survivors include two sons, Steven Ray Spacil of Payton, Utah, and Michael Joseph Spacil of Topeka; one daughter, Melanie Kay Rehmert of Dodge City; two sisters, Norma Mae King of Great Bend and Marilyn E. Brehm of Phoenix, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one infant brother, Ronald Spacil. Altar Society rosary will be at 3 p.m. Friday followed by a vigil service at 7 p.m., both at Kimple Funeral Home in Ellinwood. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. David Flagor officiating. Burial will be at Lakin-Commache District cemetery in Ellinwood. Friends may call from 5 to 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Ellinwood Area Health Care Foundation, in care of the funeral home. Feb. 27, 2003

SFC John William McAllister 1970-2003
CLAREMORE, Okla. — Services for SFC John William McAllister will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Chapel of the Garden at Rice Funeral Service in Claremore, (918) 341-0376. U.S. Army Chaplain Mark Zerger will officiate. Friends may visit at the funeral home until 8 tonight with the family receiving visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. John passed away Feb. 24. He was 33. Born in Gillette, Wyo., on Feb. 15, 1970, John’s parents are Carol Zook McAllister and Gary McAllister, both of Hoisington. He was reared and educated in Gillette, New Mexico, Colorado and Kansas. He graduated from Great Bend High School. High school is where John met Kathy Jo Price, and the two were married May 11, 1991, after John returned from service in Saudi Arabia. With John’s army career, the couple made their first home in Ft. Sill, Okla. They spent three years in Germany, and in 1995, returned to Ft. Sill. In 1997, John was stationed in Claremore as a recruiter and then in 2001, with a new assignment to Bartlesville, Okla., the McAllisters settled in Skiatook, Okla. Their family had grown to include two sons, Cody McAllister and Colton McAllister. John represented his country proudly. He set high standards for himself and those around him. He was committed to his family and spending time with them was his first priority. John is survived by his wife Kathy, of the home in Skiatook; two sons, Cody McAllister and Colton McAllister, of the home; his parents, Carol and Gary McAllister of Hoisington; three siblings, Mike McAllister of Sterling, David McAllister of Kansas City and Jaime McAllister of Hoisington; maternal grandmother, Jimmie Kimp of Corvallis, Mont.; and paternal grandmother, Eloise McAllister of Casper, Wyo. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, John Zook; and his paternal grandfather, William McAllister. Memorial contributions in John’s honor may be made to the local Humane Society or to the Army Emergency Relief Fund Drive, c/o Army Community Services Building, 4700 N. Mow-Way Rd., Ft. Sill, OK 73503.

Clara B. Sommer 1904-2003
TOPEKA — Clara B. Sommer, 98, died Feb. 23 at Dillon Living Center in Hutchinson. She was born Nov. 15, 1904, near Larned, the daughter of Charles and Mary McLaughlin Graebner. She received her bachelor degree from McPherson College. She married F. Eugene Sommer June 25, 1933, at Ft. Dodge. He died June 29, 1995. A resident of Hutchinson in 1997, coming from Topeka, she was a school teacher at Macksville from 1928-1933, and a special education teacher at Topeka from 1958-1971. Mrs. Sommer was a member of First Congregational Church in Topeka and Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include a niece, Norma Long of Hutchinson. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles Graebner, Harry Graebner and Jim Graebner; and one sister Mary Neill. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Minnis Chapel in St. John with Tom Long officiating. Private family burial will be at Larned Cemetery. Elmer L. Fenn 1927-2003
Elmer L. Fenn, 75, of Great Bend, died Feb. 24 at Central Kansas Medical Center. He was born Aug. 22, 1927, in rural Great Bend, the son of Ernest A. and Katherine Drehle Fenn. He was a 1945 graduate of Great Bend High School.He married Louise E. Behrens June 13, 1954, at Wichita. A resident of Great Bend for most of his life, he owned and operated Fenn’s Paint and Wallpaper Store and was engineer for Petrolog. Fenn was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Great Bend and served on the advisory board of Shafer Memorial Art Gallery. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the 22nd Regimental Headquarters Company 4th Infantry Division from October of 1950 to September of 1952. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Matthew A. Fenn of Liberal; and one sister, Thelma Hipp of Great Bend. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. David E. Carlson officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park cemetery north of Great Bend. Friends may call from noon until 9 tonight, from 9 a.m to 9 p.m. Thursday, all at the funeral home, and from 9:30 a.m. to 10: 30 a.m. Friday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church or Shafer Memorial Art Gallery, both in care of the funeral home. Feb. 26, 2003

Helen Nicklaus Riedl 1913-2003
HOISINGTON — Helen Nicklaus Riedl, 89, died Feb. 24 at Cheyenne Meadows Living Center in Hoisington. She was born June 1, 1913, at Haven, the daughter of William and Emma Bauman Nicklaus. She married Joseph Riedl Jr. Oct. 8, 1936, at Kingman. He died Nov. 3, 1970. A longtime resident of Hoisington, coming from Haven, she was retired from Suburban Laundry of Hoisington. Mrs. Riedl was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Altar Society, both of Hoisington. Survivors include two sons, Bert Riedl of Hoisington and Martin Riedl of Woodward, Okla.; one daughter, Sharon Sohl of McPherson; nine grandchidren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Arthur Nicklaus, Elmer Nicklaus, Fritz Nicklaus and Robert Nicklaus; and four sisters, Augusta Tindall, Elsie Steinert, Ethel Rumbaugh and Margaret Reimer. Vigil will be at 7 p.m. Thursday followed by Altar Society Rosary, both at care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Pascal Klein officiating. Burial will be at St.John Church cemetery in Hoisington. Friends may call from 1 to 9 today, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Hoisington Ambulance Service in care of the funeral home. Feb. 26, 2003

LuAnne M. McAllister Poole 1962-2003
ST. JOHN — LuAnne M. McAllister Poole, 40, died Feb. 13 at her home in Denver, Colo. She was born July 25, 1962, at Great Bend, the daughter of Donald L. and Helen Maxine Gerstenkorn McAllister. She graduated from Macksville High School and attended Barton County Community College. Survivors include two brothers, Carey McAllister of Macksville and Clayton McAllister of Great Bend; six sisters, Timarie A. Walters of Hudson, Janet K. McKemy of Sugarland, Texas, Kayla J. Clowers and Cassie L. Miller, both of Belpre, Jamie L. Keiter of Kansas City, Mo., and Melissa G. McAllister of St. John; and father and step-mother, Donald L. and Lynda McAllister of St. John. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Minnis Chapel of St. John. The body was cremated. There is no visitation. Funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church of Seward with the Rev. Rene Guesnier officiating. Inurnment will be at Fairview Park cemetery at St. John. Memorials are suggested to Capitol Hill Contingency Fund of Denver in care of the funeral home. Feb. 26, 2003
