Laleta A. Houser 1912 - 2002
Laleta A. Houser, 90, of Great Bend, died Dec. 6 in Great Bend. She was born on Nov. 25, 1912 in Fall River, the daughter of Newton and Lillian Murphy Ashwell. She married Byron Houser on Oct. 29, 1932. He died Aug. 7, 1950. A resident of Great Bend, coming from Chanute where she lived most of her life, she was a technician for Custom Electronics of Chanute. Mrs. Houser was a member of First Methodist Church of Chanute and the Eagle’s Lodge of Great Bend. Survivors include one son, Ronald D. Houser of Great Bend, and one daughter, Sherry L. Fernetti of Great Bend. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Earl Ashwell, Bud Ashwell, and Emery Ashwell, and one sister, Bernice Gladwell. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bryant Funeral Home of Great Bend, with the Rev. Gary Brooks officiating. Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. till service time Tuesday all at the funeral home. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Weakley cemetery in Wilson County. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Association — SC Kansas, in care of the funeral home. Dec. 8, 2002

Georgia Y. Sibrava 1920 - 2002
WILSON — Georgia Y. Sibrava, 82, died Dec. 5 at the Wilson Nursing Center of Wilson. She was born Feb. 22, 1920 in Lucas, the daughter of Pearl and Gertrude Cooper Ward. She married Frank Sibrava on June 1, 1955 in Wilson. A lifetime resident of Russell and Ellsworth counties, she was a retired school teacher. Mrs. Sibrava was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Friends of Reading Club, both of Wilson. Survivors include her husband of the home and one brother, Gordon Ward of Waldo. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Elaine Lord officiating. Burial will be at Wilson City cemetery of Wilson. Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. till service time Tuesday, both at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church or Friends of Reading Club, both in care of the funeral home.

Norma J. Stieben 1936-2002
RUSH CENTER — Norma J. Stieben, 66, died Dec. 4 at Rush Center. She was born July 24, 1936 in Pawnee County, the daughter of William H. and Lena T. Hagerman Tryon. She married Donald Stieben. He died. A lifelong resident of Rush County, she was a custodial engineer. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church of Rush Center. Survivors include three brothers, Robert E. Tryon of Liebenthal, William R. Tryon and David A. Tryon, both of Washburn, N.D.; and one sister, Nancy A. Livengood of McPherson. She was preceded in death by one sister, Donna B. Harris. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Maurice Schaus officiating. Burial will be at Bazine Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 tonight at Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. and there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Norma J. Stieben Memorial in care of the funeral home. Dec. 6, 2002

Robert William ‘Bob’ Roth 1909-2002
CHEYENNE WELLS, Colo. — Robert William “Bob” Roth, 93, died Dec. 2 at Keefe Memorial Hospital of Cheyenne Wells. He was born July 7, 1909, at Ellinwood, the son of William Peter and Catherine T. Strothman Roth. He married Mary Josephine Mooney on Dec. 29, 1937, at Holy Name Church near Bushton. A resident of Cheyenne Wells since the late 1930s, coming from Ellinwood, he was a farmer. Roth was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Cheyenne Wells. Survivors include his wife of the home; four sons, Bill Roth, Alan Roth and Greg Roth, all of Cheyenne Wells, and Jack Roth of Lamar, Colo.; two daughters, Darlene Lohr of Castle Rock, Colo., and Janet Walker of Weskan; two brothers, Walter Roth and Don Roth, both of Ellinwood; two sisters, Marian Southern of Ellinwood and Dorothy Dueser of Breckenridge, Texas; 19 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. Funeral was Dec. 5 at the church. Burial was at Fairview cemetery of Cheyenne Wells. Memorials are suggested to Keefe Memorial Hospital or Cheyenne County EMT or Fire Department, all in care of Kimple Funeral Home of Ellinwood. Dec. 6, 2002

Dorothy May Winter 1908-2002
LARNED — Dorothy May Winter, 94, died Dec. 5 at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital of Larned. She was born June 1, 1908, at Shell City, Mo., the daughter of Thomas and Stella Belle Ensor Southards. She married Ora Winter on Dec. 14, 1926. He died Sept. 27, 1999. A resident of Larned for 33 years, coming from Hodgeman County, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Winter was a member of United Methodist Church of Larned and Ladies Aid Society of Hodgeman County. Survivors include one son, Henry Ora Winter of Burdett; two daughters, Betty Lee Wasson of Dodge City and Iva Lynn Helms of Derby; one brother, Robert Southards of Oregon; two sisters, Ruth Luna of Hutchinson and Bertha Lee Wattenburger of Washington; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Clarence Southards, Harvey Southards, Walter Southards and Virgil Southards; one sister, Bulla; and one granddaughter. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel of Larned with the Rev. Tony Horsley officiating. Burial will be at Larned Cemetery. Friends may call until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, all at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to Welcome Inn Senior Center of Larned, in care of the mortuary. Dec. 6, 2002

Eulalia Lamb Weber 1926-2002
Eulalia Lamb Weber, 76, of Great Bend, died Dec. 2 at Central Kansas Medical Center of Great Bend. She was born Nov. 23, 1926, at Council Grove, the daughter of Loy B. and Theola Wells Lamb. She married Robert Bruce Weber on Aug. 17, 1960, at Great Bend. He died Sept. 19, 2001. A resident of Great Bend since 1960, coming from Hiawatha, she was an abstract assistant for J.B. Stoddard of Hiawatha and a dental hygienist for Dr. Mingenback of Great Bend. Mrs. Weber was a member of Order of the Eastern Star of Hiawatha and First United Methodist Church of Great Bend. Survivors include one sister, Elizabeth Melvin. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Great Bend cemetery with the Rev. Gary Brooks officiating. Cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to Great Bend Humane Society, in care of Bryant Funeral Home of Great Bend. Dec. 6, 2002

Juanita Victoria Knupp 1916-2002
SUNS LAKES, Ariz. — Juanita Victoria Knupp, 86, died Nov. 23 at Neely Hospice House of Gilbert, Ariz. She was born Jan. 17, 1916, at Great Bend, the daughter of Samuel and Margaret Hall Eitel. She married Roy Ellis Knupp. He died Dec. 21, 2001. A resident of Suns Lakes, she was a homemaker. Survivors include one son, Larry Knupp of DeSoto; one sister, Lucile Uden of Great Bend; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, James Ellis Knupp on Sept. 23, 1995. Private service will be at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home of Lawrence. Private inurnment will be at Oak Hill cemetery of Lawrence. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, in care of the funeral home. Dec. 6, 2002

Mabelle Balloun Jenkins 1907-2002
RUSSELL — Mabelle Balloun Jenkins, 95, died Dec. 3 at Hays Medical Center of Hays. She was born May 19, 1907, at WaKeeney, the daughter of George P. and Bessie Lofstead Britt. She married R.G. Balloun on April 12, 1924, at WaKeeney. He died Dec. 4, 1953. She then married Thomas Jenkins on June 4, 1956, at Russell. He died Nov. 5, 1977. A resident of Russell since 1990, coming from WaKeeney, Gorham, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Boulder, Colo., she was a homemaker and Avon sales representative for many years. Mrs. Jenkins was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, all of Russell. Survivors include three sons, George R. Balloun of Liberal, Robert L. Balloun of Russell and J. Eugene Balloun of Lenexa; one daughter, Betty Boxberger of Russell; one stepdaughter, Joanne Jenkins Keil of Hoisington; one sister, Darlene Baker of Norfolk, Va.; 23 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Lloyd Balloun; three brothers, Ralph Britt, Guy Britt and Forrest Britt; four sisters, Mae Berry, Grace Britt, Marie Houston and Arlene Britt; and one great-grandson, Christopher Balloun. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Carl Ellis officiating. Burial will be at Russell City Cemetery. Friends may call from noon until 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until noon Saturday, all at Pohlman’s Mortuary of Russell, and from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church, St. John Nursing Home of Victoria, or the Balloun Family Scholarship Fund at Russell High School, all in care of the funeral home. Dec. 5, 2002

Myrtle S. Geschwentner 1921-2002
LA CROSSE — Myrtle S. Geschwentner, 81, died Dec. 2 at Rush County Memorial Long Term Care. She was born Sept. 19, 1921, at Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Anton and Rosa Kettlehake Bickel. She married Clarence D. Geschwentner on Sept. 26, 1947, at Kansas City, Mo. He died Aug. 25, 2001. A resident of La Crosse, coming from Hays and Ellis, where she lived from 1947-1995, she was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service in Ellis for more than 20 years. Mrs. Geschwentner was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Ellis and Ladies Auxiliary. She was a U.S. Army veteran, having served three years over seas and was a Tech fifth grade in the Women’s Army Corps. Survivors include one son, Tony Geschwentner of Victoria; four daughters, Debra Kay Staab of La Crosse, Judy Bieker of Salina, Donna Degenhardt of San Antonio, Texas, and Marilyn Bennett of Denver, Colo.; one brother, William Bickel of Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters, Verna Bell of Raytown, Mo., and Viola Pittser of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one step great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Carolyn; two brothers; four sisters; and one grandson, Derek John Degenhardt. Rosary will be at 7 tonight at Wasinger Funeral Chapel of Ellis. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Larry Letourneau officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 tonight and from 9-9:30 a.m. Friday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Rush County Memorial Long Term Care, in care of the chapel. Dec. 5, 2002

Vickie J. Peak 1944-2002
Vickie J. Peak, 58, of Great Bend, died Dec. 3 at her residence. She was born Sept. 16, 1944, the daughter of Roy E. and Mildred M. Byrnes Peak. She attended St. Teresa School of Hutchinson and Sunflower Diversified Services of Great Bend. She was a resident of Great Bend since 1975, coming from Hutchinson and Larned. Peak was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church of Great Bend. Survivors include her father of Great Bend. She was preceded in death by one infant brother. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Teresa Catholic Church of Hutchinson with the Rev. Richard Stuchlik officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park cemetery of Hutchinson. Friends may call from 1-9 tonight and Friday, all at Johnson and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory of Hutchinson. Memorials are suggested to St. Teresa Catholic Church or Sunflower Diversified Services, both in care of the funeral home. Dec. 5, 2002

Mathilda ‘Tillie’ Steiner Stadelman 1917-2002
HAYS — Mathilda “Tillie” Steiner Stadelman, 85, died Dec. 3 at Hays Medical Center. She was born June 4, 1917, at Odin, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Warner Steiner. She married Fred Kaiser in April of 1937 at Odin. He died in June of 1964. She then married Virgil L. Stadelman in May of 1970 at Hays. A resident of Hays, she worked in the housekeeping department of Fort Hays State University until her retirement. Mrs. Stadelman was a member of St. Joseph’s Church of Hays. Survivors include her husband of the home; three sons, Bernard Kaiser of Mesa, Ariz., Vernon Kaiser of Great Bend and Kenneth Kaiser of Whittier, Calif.; two daughters, JaNelda Butler of Wichita and Laveda Heider of Harrisonville, Mo.; two sisters, Ann Minko of Wichita and Gertrude Hitchmann of Abilene; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Alvin Steiner, Martin Steiner, Leonard Steiner and Edward Steiner; and one sister, Helen Martin. Parish vigil will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Brock’s North Hill Chapel of Hays. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Frank X. Grinko officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. Friday and from 8:30-9:45 a.m. Saturday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Oncology Department of Hays Medical Center, in care of the funeral home. Dec. 5, 2002

Norman Martin Rothrock 1910-2002
MACKSVILLE — Norman Martin Rothrock, 92, died Dec. 2 at Stafford District Hospital of Stafford. He was born June 19, 1910, at Macksville, the son of Guy Wallace and Carrie Anne Rothrock. He married Margaret I. Storey on Jan. 11, 1977, at Norwalk, Calif. She preceded him in death. A lifetime resident of Macksville, he was an engineer for Cessna aircraft for 38 years. Rothrock was a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Macksville. Survivors include one daughter, Tammy Sue Simmons of Stafford; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Eleanor Anne Rothrock; two brothers, Dale Rothrock and Dean Rothrock; and one sister, Marilyn Cleveland. Memorial graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Farmington cemetery of Macksville with the Rev. Dr. David Upp officiating. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society or the church, both in care of Minnis Chapel of St. John. Dec. 5, 2002

Alexandria Marie Schroeder 2002-2002
HANSTON — Alexandria Marie Schroeder, six weeks, died Dec. 2 at Wesley Medical Center of Wichita. She was the daughter of Cody Schroeder and Deborah Pfeifer of Hanston. Survivors include her parents of Hanston; two brothers, Joseph Michael Hernandez and Cody Calvin Russell Schroeder, both of the home; grandparents, Jerry and Shirley Pfeifer of Jamestown and Wayne and Janice Schroeder of Dodge City; great-grandparents, Homer and Agnes Stewart of Albia, Iowa, Philomene Rohleder and Veronica Graf, both of Ransom. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Beckwith Funeral Home of Jetmore with the Rev. Mitch Reece officiating. Burial will be at Hanston Cemetery. Friends may call until 8 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Alexandria Marie Schroeder Memorial Fund, in care of the funeral home. Dec. 5, 2002
