Harry W. Walts 1917-2002
FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Harry W. Walts, 85, died Sept. 16 at Fort Collins. He was born Sept. 11, 1917, at Great Bend, the son of Harry Edgar and Hazel McKinley Walts. He married Pauline. She died in 1960. He was married to Janet from 1961-1985. A resident of Fort Collins since 1970, coming from Great Bend, he was employed by Everitt Lumber Company in Great Bend where he served as a manager from 1950-1970, worked at Union Manufacturing in Fort Collins from 1970-1983, and then worked for Rainbow Plastics in Fort Collins. Walts was a member of American Legion in Great Bend, and Loveland Archaeological Society in Loveland, Colo., where he served as president and treasurer. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II. Survivors include six sons, Donald Walts of Albuquerque, N.M., Steven Walts of Greece, N.Y., Allan Walts of Littleton, Colo., David Walts of Loveland, Patric Walts of Fort Collins and Michael Walts of Dupont, Wash.; one brother, Robert Walts; one sister, Virlor Jarvis; and nine grandchildren. Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. today at Allnutt Funeral Service-Drake Chapel of Fort Collins. The body has been cremated. Memorials are suggested to Loveland Archaeological Society, in care of the funeral home. Sept. 18, 2002

James 'Jimmy' Bednasek 1903-2002
ELLSWORTH - James "Jimmy" Bednasek, 99, died Sept. 15 at Ellsworth County Medical Center. He was born April 11, 1903, at Wilson, the son of Joseph Sr. and Jennie Kroft Bednasek. He married Gertrude Schmoekel on April 29, 1945, at Ellsworth. A resident of Ellsworth since 1945, coming from Wilson, he was owner of B&D Implement and a Bankers Life and Casualty Insurance agent. Bednasek was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ellsworth and American Legion of Wilson. He was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran, having served in World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Judy Juneau of Lawrence; and one grandchild. He was preceded in death by one son, Larry Dean. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Richard Andrus officiating. Burial will be at Ellsworth Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-8 tonight at Parsons Funeral Home in Ellsworth and from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. The family will receive friends from 6-7 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home. Sept. 17, 2002

John George Medina 1949-2002
LARNED - John George Medina, 53, died Sept. 15 at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Larned. He was born Feb. 17, 1949, in Dikes County, Colo., the son of John M. and Della I. Forsgren Medina. He married Theresa Marie Bartz on Dec. 30, 1989, at Larned. A resident of Larned since 1967, coming from Topeka, he was foreman at Doerr Metal Products. Medina was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, both of Larned. He was also retired from the Larned Fire Department after 20 years of service. Survivors include three sons, John G. Medina, Jr. of Sand Springs, Okla., and A.J. Medina and Brian Medina, both of Larned; two daughters, Pamela Prescott of Meridian and Sandy Gros of Great Bend; his mother of Larned; three sisters, Eunice Doty of Klamath Falls, Ore., Virginia Hoberecht of Wichita and Della (Gina) Timmons of Great Bend; and 10 grandchildren. Vigil service will be at 7 tonight at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Dennis Reed officiating. Burial will be at Larned Cemetery. Friends may call until 8 tonight at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to A. J. and Brian Medina Educational Fund, in care of the mortuary. Sept. 17, 2002

Hildagard Elizabeth Drehle 1916-2002
Hildagard Elizabeth Drehle, 86, of Great Bend, died Sept. 15 at Sandpiper Bay Nursing Home in Wichita. She was born Sept. 15, 1916, in rural Hoisington, the daughter of Isaac and Katherine Elizabeth Daubert Boger. She married Edward Robert Drehle on April 17, 1938, in Hoisington. He died Dec. 22, 1992. A resident of Wichita since May 2001, coming from Great Bend, Dodge City and Hoisington, she was a receptionist and bookkeeper. Mrs. Drehle was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Silver and Gold Club, both of Great Bend. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Carma L. Drehle-Neth and Tom Neth, both of Wichita; one brother, Reinhardt W. Boger of Lexington, Ky; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, August M. Boger. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Revs. James A. Strasen and David E. Carlson officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Great Bend. Friends may call until 9 tonight at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home. Sept. 17, 2002

William Edwin 'Ed' Haller 1929-2002
GARDEN CITY - William Edwin "Ed" Haller, 73, died Sept. 14 at his home. He was born Feb. 23, 1929, in Hoisington, the son of William Nast and Grace Jessop Haller. He married Louise M. Hemken on July 17, 1949, in Albert. A resident of Garden City, coming from Wichita in 1970, he was a retired switchman for Southwestern Bell Telephone. Haller was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Garden City, Telephone Pioneers of America and past Boy Scout leader. He served in U.S. Navy Reserve. Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Janis L. Schaffer and Jean L. Morlang, both of Garden City; one sister, Blanche Button of La Crosse; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Gruver and Edna Haller. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Lyle Steuhrenberg officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Larned cemetery in Larned. Friends may call until 8 tonight at Price and Sons Funeral Home in Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the church or Sunshine Nursing Agency, both in care of the funeral home. Sept. 16, 2002

Ethel Virginia Wilkerson 1921-2002
CHASE - Ethel Virginia Wilkerson, 81, died Sept. 15 at Lyons District Hospital in Lyons. She was born Jan. 26, 1921, in Beardon, Okla., the daughter of David Wesley and Margaret Mullins Jackson. She married William V. Wilkerson on Oct. 1, 1935, in Welty, Okla. A resident of Chase since 1956, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Wilkerson was a member of Christian Church and Chase Senior Center, both of Chase. Survivors include her husband of the home; three sons, William Wilkerson of Mannford, Okla., Allen Wilkerson of McPherson and Ronnie Wilkerson of Lyons; two sisters, Vera Ledbetter of Little River and Dorothy Cooper of Oklahoma City, Okla.; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon Jackson and Cecil Jackson; four sisters, Marcella Ricketts, Marceline Garrett, Lily Jackson and Norma Ruth Jackson; and two grandsons, Billy Wilkerson and Charles Valice Wilkerson. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. D.D. Hall and Johnnie Hardie officiating. Burial will be at Lyons Municipal cemetery in Lyons. Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. today and from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday, both at Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons. Memorials are suggested to the church or Chase First Responders, in care of the funeral home. Hilda Tina Peterson 1909-2002
LARNED - Hilda Tina Peterson, 93, died Sept. 12 at the St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Larned. She was born Jan. 24, 1909 at Rush County, the daughter of Peter August and Hanna Marie Renken Petersen. She married Eldon Arthur Petersen, Oct. 4, 1933 at Rush County. He died Dec. 10, 1988. A lifetime resident of Larned, she was a homemaker and housekeeper. Mrs. Peterson was a member Peace Lutheran Church, and Peace Lutheran Ladies Aid, all of Albert. Survivors include two sons, Donald Dean Peterson of Larned, and Darryl Duane Peterson of Hutchinson; one daughter, Yvonne Rose Wittig of Larned; one sister, Rose Petersen Tammen of Larned; seven grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and two great-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Fredrick Peterson; three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church in Albert, with the Revs. Darryl Peterson, Ethen Feistner, and Jack Russell officiating. Burial will be at Peace Lutheran Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Beckwith Mortuary in Larned. Memorials are suggested to the Peace Lutheran Church Woman's group, in care of the mortuary. Sept. 15, 2002

John Wesley McEachern Jr. 1931-2002
POTTSBORO, Texas - John Wesley McEachern Jr., 70, died Sept. 10 at Wilson N. Jones Medical Center in Sherman, Texas. He was born Oct. 23, 1931, in Jet, Okla., the son of John and Leona McEachern. He married Eunice Kimball March 10, 1956. He was from Texas, coming from Kansas where he lived most of his life working as a bridge construction foreman, mobile home plant general foreman and owner of Chase Tank Service. McEachern was a member of Elks Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served in the Korean War. Survivors include his wife of Pottsboro; three sons, Greg McEachern of Boca Raton, Fla., Richard McEachern of Chase, and Brian McEachern of Wichita; two daughters, Shana Whitlock of Belleville, Ill., and Keri McEachern of New York City, N.Y.; one brother, Dono McEachern of Great Bend; four sisters, Doris Riley of Red Bluff, Calif., Mildred Cameron of Tulsa, Okla., Barbara Sharp of South Dakota, and Joyce Cook of Grove, Okla.; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Bob McEachern; and two sisters, Joan Regean and Dorothy Burnham. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Johnson-Moore Chapel in Pottsboro with the Rev. David Taylor officiating. Memorials are suggested to the American Arthritis Association, North Texas Chapter, in care of the funeral home. Sept. 12, 2002

Floris G. Jones 1926-2002
Floris G. Jones, 76, of Great Bend, died Sept 10 at her home in Great Bend. She was born March 13, 1926, at Marks, Miss., the daughter of Ney M. and Annie Lee Carver Gore. She was a graduate of Marks High School, Blue Mountain College in Blue Mountain, Miss., and did graduate work at the University of Mississippi and Fort Hays State University. She married Gordon Jones June 17, 1950, at Marks. A resident of Great Bend since 1955, coming from Lyons, she was a former English teacher at Great Bend High School. Mrs. Jones was a member of First United Methodist Church, First United Methodist Church Chancel Choir, United Methodist Women and Parnassus Club where she was selected for Who's Who honors. Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Harold G. Jones Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one sister, Patricia Cruse of Marks; and two grandchildren. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Gary Brooks officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call until 9 tonight at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend, and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church Chancel Choir in care of the funeral home. Sept. 12, 2002

Martha Elizabeth Vinsonhaler 1911-2002
CHEYENNE, Wyo. - Martha Elizabeth Vinsonhaler, 91, died Sept. 9 at Cheyenne. She was born Aug. 19, 1911, at Esbon the daughter of Levi and Mary Ward. She married Albert Vinsonhaler. He is deceased. A resident of Cheyenne for the past three years, coming from Monahans, Texas, she was a nurse. Mrs. Vinsonhaler was a member of First Assembly of God Church. Survivors include one son, Dale Vinsonhaler of Monahans; one daughter, Carol Frank of Cheyenne; 13 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four sons, Larry Vinsonhaler, Robert Vinsonhaler, Kenneth Vinsonhaler and Ralph Raymond Vinsonhaler; and one brother, Richard Ward. Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens with Wiedeerspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes in charge of arrangements. Graveside services and inurnment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Spring Grove cemetery in Anthony. Memorials are suggested to Meals on Wheels. Sept. 12, 2002

Agnes Margartha Katherina Walton 1909-2002
LYONS - Agnes Margartha Katherina Walton, 93, died Sept. 10 at Lyons District Hospital in Lyons. She was born June 16, 1909, in Holyrood, the daughter of Hans William and Wilheimine Louise Heiken Besthorn Christopher. She was a graduate of Holyrood High School and Sterling College. She married Claude Orangie Walton Aug. 16, 1936 in Holyrood. He died April 5, 1969. A resident of Lyons since 1970, she was a retired elementary school teacher, having taught at schools in Wilson, Langley, Lorraine, Bushton and Lyons. Mrs. Walton was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Holyrood, Rice County Republican Women, Historical Society, Silver Threads and Li-Ar-Mu Club, all of Lyons, and was a 37 year member of Delta Kappa Gama International Society of Women Educators. Survivors include one daughter, Mary Eves of Wichita; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Herman Besthorn and Art Besthorn; three sisters, Linda Burmeister, Elsie Stoltenberg and Bertha Boye; and an infant sibling. Funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Mary Klein officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul United Church of Christ cemetery in Holyrood. Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday at Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons. Memorials are suggested to the Agnes Walton Memorial Fund at USD 405 in Lyons or Agnes Walton Memorial Fund at Orpheum Theater in Wichita, both in care of the funeral home. Sept. 12, 2002

Violet Elma Slade Manweiler 1912-2002
HOISINGTON - Violet Elma Slade Manweiler, 89, died Sept. 9 at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. She was born Dec. 21, 1912, in Stafford, the daughter of Francis Byron and Lillian Jane Marshall Slade. She married August Manweiler April 11, 1930, at Bushton. He died Sept. 26, 1993. A resident of Hoisington for most of her life, having lived in Marion, Mont. from 1973 to 1996, she was a retired accountant with Manweiler Chevrolet of Hoisington. Mrs. Manweiler attended Concordia Lutheran Church in Hoisington. Survivors include three sons, Larry M. Manweiler of Hoisington, Gary Manweiler of Boerne, Texas, and Robert Manweiler of Valparaiso, Ind.; one daughter, Sonya Benge of Houston, Texas; one sister, Freda Durant of Chula Vista, Calif., nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Slade and Boyd Slade; and two sisters, infant Iona Bernice Slade and Dot Slade Maupin. A prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Garry Dassow officiating. Burial will be at Hoisington Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, all at the funeral home, and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church or donor's choice, both in care of the funeral home. Sept. 11, 2002
