LA CROSSE - Donna C. Schuckman, 48, died Sept. 22 at La Crosse. She was born April 13, 1954, at Larned, the daughter of Donald E. Davis and Caroline D. Klee Davis House. She married
Don Schuckman July 20, 1974, at McCracken. A lifetime resident of Rush County, she was employed by Farmers Bank and Trust, NA, in La Crosse as a teller. Mrs. Schuckman was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in La Crosse; past treasurer of band parents, and was in charge of scheduling and renting the church parish hall. Survivors include her husband of the home; two daughters, Stacy Lynn Scheetz of Almelo and Melissa Dawn Schuckman of Hutchinson; step-father, Robert House of McCracken; one brother, Bruce Davis of Wilmington, N.C.; and three sisters, Cheryl Groff of Hays, Ellen Kershner of Rush Center and Annette Chestnut of Headland, Ala. Vigil will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Charles Mazouch officiating. Emily M. Schroter 1909-2002
LA CROSSE - Emily M. Schroter, 93, died Sept. 22 at Rush County Nursing Home in La Crosse. She was born June 17, 1909, at rural Timken, the daughter of Mike and Mollie Hanzlick Stejskal. She married
William F. Schroter Sept. 29, 1931. He died Oct. 27, 1986. A resident of La Crosse for a short time, coming from rural Timken, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Schroter was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Albert, ALCW, Gay Gingham Unit and Bohemian Lodge. Survivors include one daughter, Glenna Rose Holopirek of La Crosse; one sister, Rosie Jacobs of La Crosse; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one son, Ronald Dean Schroter; and seven brothers, John Stejskal, Lute Stejskal, Ralph Stejskal, Lester Stejskal, George Stejskal, Charlie Stejskal and one infant. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse with the Rev. Jack Russell officiating. Burial will be at La Crosse City Cemetery. Richard P. 'Blackie' Werth 1922-2002
WICHITA - Richard P. 'Blackie' Werth, 80, died Sept. 19 at Via Christi Riverside Medical Center in Wichita. He was born March 12, 1922 at Rural Rush Center, the son of Ludwig W. and Rosa Diehl Werth. Werth was a graduate of La Crosse High School. A resident of Wichita, coming from La Crosse, and Oklahoma, he was a heavy equipment operator for Gulf Oil Company until his retirement in 1988. Werth was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army. Survivors include two sisters, Regina Basgall, and Christine Suchy both of Wichita. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Leonard Werth, Ferdie Werth, and Emil Werth; and four sisters, Lenora Werth, Armella Freighberger, Sister M. Leonard 'Loretta' Werth, and Sister M. Cornolia 'Ester' Werth. Vigil service will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Janousek Funeral Home Chapel in La Crosse. Funeral services and burial are pending. Wanda Ruth Carey 1919-2002
ELLINWOOD - Wanda Ruth Carey, 83, died Sept. 20 at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. She was born Sept. 16, 1919, at Barton County, the daughter of Edward Elias and Bertha Weathers Brown. She was a graduate of Great Bend High School. She married
Francis W. Carey on Nov. 3, 1940 at Great Bend. He died March 7, 1994. A lifetime resident of Barton County, she was a homemaker, farm wife, engraver at Carter's Trophy shop, and clerk at Komarek's Jewelry. Mrs. Carey was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, and church organist, both of Ellinwood, Community Orchestra, viola/violinist, and Order of Eastern Star. Survivors include two daughters, Dr. Susan Carey of New Lenex, Ill., and Sandra Meyer of Ellinwood; three grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by on son. Memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the church in Ellinwood, with the Rev. Larry Young officiating. Burial will be at Lakin-Comanche District cemetery in Ellinwood. Ted L. Nutt 1921-2002
Ted L. Nutt, 81, of Great Bend, died Sept. 19 at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. He was born May 24, 1921 at Lindsborg, the son of David Garfield and Fannie Aleda Cox Nutt. He was graduate of Kansas State University, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He married
Kathleen M. Morris, Dec. 23, 1944, at Waco, Texas. A resident of Great Bend since 1962, coming from Ellinwood, he worked for Parkersburg Rig and Reel, and was owner and operator of Santa Fe Pipe and Supply. Nutt was a member of American Legion, and Kansas Independent Oil & Gas Association. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force having served in World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; one brother, David J. Nutt of Walnut Creek, Calif.; and one sister, Frances Crider of Porterville, Calif. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend, with the Rev. John Grummon officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. LARNED - Gerald Jay Shottenkirk, 70, died Sept. 19, at his home in Larned. He was born March 11, 1943 at Garfield, the son of Lewis C. and Pearl L. Foss Shottenkirk. He married
Mary Louise Andrews, Aug. 8, 1943 at Larned. A lifetime resident of Pawnee County, he was a farmer. Shottenkirk was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles of Great Bend, and a charter member of the Ft. Larned Lions Club in Larned. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served in World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Jay Craig Shottenkirk of Garfield; two daughters, Mary Anne Toll of Prairie Village, and Linda Sidney Ideker of Rozel; one brother, Lowell Shottenkirk of Salina; six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Lewis Shottenkirk. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Garfield Cemetery, with the Rev. Richard Martin officiating. LA CROSSE - Alfred T. Urban, 80, died Sept. 17 at Rush County Memorial Hospital in La Crosse. He was born Feb. 20, 1922, at Loretto, the son of Thomas M. and Bridget Marie Urban Urban. He was a 1940 graduate of Otis High School. He married
Esther on April 30, 1947, at Loretto. A lifetime resident of La Crosse, he was a farmer until his retirement. Urban was a member and choir member of St. Michael's Catholic Church of La Crosse, a member of Third Degree Knights of Columbus of Liebenthal and choir member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Loretto. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served as a sergeant in England, France and Germany. Survivors include his wife of the home; five sons, Daryll J. Urban, Reginald A. Urban and Alan L. Urban, all of La Crosse, Maynard Urban of Hutchinson and Kevin J. Urban of Salina; one daughter, Pam A. Hamel of McPherson; two brothers, Art Urban of La Crosse and Gilbert Urban of Salina; three sisters, Matilda "Tillie" Urban of Colorado Springs, Colo., Dorothy Schoendaller of Wichita and Jane Schumacher of Hays; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas J. "Tom" Urban; and three sisters, Edna Urban, Agnes Herrman and Florence Linenberger. Funeral service was today at the church with the Revs. Reginald A. Urban, Charles Mazouch and Ultan Murphy officiating. Burial was at La Crosse City Cemetery. Dawn Radke Aug. 31, 1990, in Wichita. A resident of Wichita, he was a former Boeing sheet metal mechanic. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Marcus Radke and Andrew Lansdowne, both of the home; one daughter, Jessica Lansdowne of the home; his mother, Patricia Withers of Wichita; and one brother, Terry Lansdowne. Florine Stoecklein 1924-2002
Florine Stoecklein, 77, of Great Bend, died Sept. 18 at Integrated Health Services of Great Bend. She was born Dec. 14, 1924, at Munjor, the daughter of Alexander C. and Anna Margaret Wolf Stoecklein. A longtime resident of Great Bend, she was a homemaker. Stoecklein was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend. Survivors include one brother, Jerry Stoecklein of Great Bend; and three sisters, Virginia Shawn of Moore, Okla., Agnes Stueve of Great Bend and Esther Staub of St. John. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Virgil Stoecklein, Edwin Stoecklein, Ted Stoecklein and Lester Stoecklein; and one sister, Theresa Mortimer. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend with the Rev. Ted Stoecklein officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Kenneth David Winford 1966-2002
TOPEKA - Kenneth David Winford, 35, died Sept. 16 at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka. He was born Oct. 8, 1966, at Oklahoma City, Okla., the son of David A. and Laura Jean Hightower Winford. He was a 1985 graduate of Independence High School, 1987 graduate of Independence Community College with an AA degree, a 1989 graduate of the University of Kansas with a BA in journalism and a 1992 graduate of Washburn School of Law with a juris doctorate. He married
Kay Ann Serpan on June 3, 1995, in Olmitz. A resident of Topeka for one and one-half years, he established Winford Law Office in Dodge City and Garden City, worked with Barnett & Renner, PA in Auburn and in January he joined the Johnson County Public Defender's Office in Olathe. Winford was a member of the Kansas Bar Association and the Kansas Trial Lawyers Association. Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Jessica Marie Winford of Topeka; his mother of Dodge City; one sister, Melody Koger of Larned; and his grandmother, Billie Mae Winford of Tulsa, Okla. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel in Topeka. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bohemian National cemetery in Timken. ST. JOHN - Ruth N. Wieneke, 94, died Sept. 17 at Leisure Homestead in Stafford. She was born June 18, 1908, in Saline County, the daughter of Peter Oscar and Nannie Elizabeth Lutes Bright. She married
Wilford F. Reese on Aug. 7, 1927, at Cimarron. He died Oct. 24, 1931. She then married
O.F. Wieneke on April 28, 1937, at Salina. He died July 22, 1968. She was a lifetime resident of St. John. Mrs. Wieneke was a member of American Legion Auxiliary in St. John. Survivors include one daughter, Alice Marie Waters of St. John; one grandchild; three great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers, George Bright, Jess Bright, Homer Bright, Lawrence Bright and Arthur Bright; and four sisters, Helen Boyle, Blanche Furney, Vergie Bunting and Ethel Mawhirter. WILSON - Arla M. Langerman, 93, died Sept. 17 at Wilson Nursing Center. She was born May 14, 1909, at Scott City, the daughter of John and Hope Day Whitson. She married
Ray Langerman on Dec. 23, 1930, at Scott City. He died Jan. 10, 1982. A resident of Wilson, coming from Scott City, she was a homemaker and switchboard operator for Wilson Telephone Company. Mrs. Langerman was a member of Wilson United Methodist Church, Rebekah Lodge and Gleaners Club, all of Wilson. Survivors include one son, Robert Langerman of Lucas; one daughter, Shirley Baumgertner of McCook, Neb.; one sister, Ruth Salerno of Bellflower, Calif.; nine grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter in 1959, Karen; and three great-granddaughters. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Foster Mortuary Chapel in Wilson with the Rev. Ralph L. 'Corky' Anderson 1948-2002
SHELL KNOB, Mo. - Ralph L. "Corky" Anderson, 54, died Sept. 14, the result of an automobile accident near Shell Knob. He was born Aug. 29, 1948, at Ransom, the son of Robert and Winifred Anderson. He was a 1966 graduate of Great Bend High School. He married
Robin. She preceded him in death. He then married
Rose. He was a resident of Shell Knob, coming from Great Bend and Gove. Anderson served during the Vietnam War and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Robbie Nichols of Ellensburg, Wash.; one stepdaughter, Melissa Thompson of Joplin, Mo.; his mother and stepfather, Winifred and Duane Rankin of Crane, Mo.; three brothers, Randy Anderson of Great Bend, Jerry Anderson of Lincoln, Neb., and Robert Anderson of Denver, Colo.; one sister, Winnie Kingsbury of Appleton, Wis.; and one grandson. He was preceded in death by one son, Jason Effertz. The body has been cremated. Arrangements were handled by Williamson Funeral Home of Shell Knob. Sept. 18, 2002
