Dorothy E. Zeilinger 1916-2002
LINDSBORG - Dorothy E. Zeilinger, 86, died July 15 at Bethany Home in Lindsborg. She was born May 16, 1916, at Coleridge, Neb., the daughter of Konrad and Elizabeth Boleken Sandrock. She married the Rev. Otto L. Zeilinger on June 6, 1943, at Coleridge. He died Jan. 28, 1998. A resident of Lindsborg since 1993, coming from St. Francis, she was a homemaker and teacher. Mrs. Zeilinger was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Lindsborg. Survivors include one son, the Rev. Dr. Neal Zeilinger of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; one daughter, Nancy Zeilinger of Great Bend; one sister, Marie Scott of Sioux City, Iowa; and two granddaughters. She was preceded in death by one son, James Konrad Zeilinger; one brother; and three sisters. Memorial service will be at 2 today at Bethany Home Chapel in Lindsborg with the Revs. Don Hawk and Charles Humphrey officiating. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Peace Lutheran Church in Albert with the Revs. Jack Russell and Don Hawk officiating. Burial will be at Peace Lutheran cemetery in Albert. Friends may call from 4-8 tonight at Hays-Christian Funeral Home in Lindsborg. The family will receive friends from 7-8 tonight at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Oaks Indian Center or the church of donor's choice, both in care of the funeral home. July 18, 2002

Carmel Barlotti 1905-2002
JETMORE - Carmel Barlotti, 97, died July 18 at Hodgeman County Long Term Care Center in Jetmore. She was born July 16, 1905, at New York, N.Y., the daughter of Annible and Henrietta Rosario Barlotti. A resident of Jetmore for the past few years, coming from Los Angeles, Calif., she was an accountant. She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Jetmore. Survivors include one niece, Joyce Shriwise of Jetmore; and several great-nephews and great-nieces. She was preceded in death by one brother, James Vincent Barlotti; and one niece, Delores Burke. Funeral Mass was Saturday at the church in Jetmore, with the Rev. Henry Hildbrandt officiating. Burial was at Fairmount cemetery in Jetmore. Memorials are suggested to the church or Hodgeman County Long Term Care Center, in care of the funeral home. July 21, 2002

Lila Jean Thomas 1942-2002
Lila Jean Thomas, 59 of Great Bend, died July 19 at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. She was born Sept. 6, 1942, at Ness City, the daughter of Glenn A. and Mary L. Talbert Ryersee. She married Steve R. Thomas on April 6, 1984, in Great Bend. A resident of Great Bend since 1980, coming from Ness County, she was a certified nurses' aide and had worked for Integrated Health Services of Great Bend. Mrs. Thomas was a member of First United Methodist Church in Great Bend. Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Tod L. Ryersee of Bazine; one daughter, Laura J. Stevenson of Great Bend; one stepdaughter, Heather R. Wiehl of Great Bend; her mother of Great Bend; and seven grandchildren. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend, with the Rev. David Huslig officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. today, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to service time Tuesday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home. July 21, 2002

Pat L. Malone 1945-2002
WICHITA - Pat L. Malone, 56, died July 18 at Wesley Medical Center in Great Bend. He was born Oct. 26, 1945, in Great Bend, the son of Steve E. and Thelia Belle Smith Malone. He married Sharon Boldt on June 13, 1964, at Lyons. A resident of Wichita, coming from Great Bend and Lyons, he was an Advantage sales and marketing division manager. Survivors include his wife of the home; his stepfather, Mace Scott of Chase; two brothers, George M. Malone of Devine, Texas, and Steve E. Malone of Wichita; and one sister, Thelia J. Ford of Great Bend. Rosary will be at 7 tonight at Downing and Lahey Mortuary West Chapel of Wichita. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church of Wichita. Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Hilltop cemetery in Raymond. Memorials are suggested to Leukemia Society of America, 555 N. Woodlawn, Bldg. 1, Suite 113, Wichita, KS 67208. July 21, 2002

Cloudia Franklin Adamson 1919-2002
GOLETA, Calif. - Cloudia Franklin Adamson, 83, died July 16 at his home. He was born March 19, 1919, in Nowata, Okla. A resident of Goleta since 1968, coming from Hoisington, he was retired from Phillips Petroleum Company and had operated a board-and-care facility in his home. Adamson was a veteran of World War II. Survivors include one stepson, George Spainhoward of Goleta; one stepdaughter, Carla Zimmermann of Anacortes, Wash.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louraine. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Faith Baptist Church in Santa Barbara, Calif. Burial will be at Goleta Cemetery. No memorials are suggested. Welch-Ryce-Haider Funeral Chapels of Santa Barbara is in charge of arrangements. July 21, 2002

Dolores M. Kirkman 1918-2002
Dolores M. Kirkman, 83 of Great Bend, died July 19 at her residence. She was born Aug. 8, 1918, at Ellinwood, the daughter of Michael and Theresa Aurburger Schartz. She married Edward A. Murphy. He died July 17, 1939. She married K.W. Pete Kirkman. He died Feb. 20, 2000. A lifetime area resident, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Kirkman was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Altar Society and Daughters of Isabella, all of Great Bend. Survivors include two sons, Roger F. Murphy and Donald K. Kirkman, both of Great Bend; one daughter, Jill M. Eliason of Overland Park; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Douglas J. Kirkman DDS; six brothers, Gerald Schartz, Joseph Schartz, Donald Schartz, Raymond Schartz, Frederick Schartz and James Schartz; and four sisters, Margaret Rickert, Elizabeth Maes, Theresa Barnes and Katherine Rusco. Altar Society rosary will be at 4 p.m. Monday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Vigil will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. John J. Maes officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Holy Family School Endowment Fund or Eldercare, in care of the funeral home. July 21, 2002

Cole Garrett Luce 2002-2002
Cole Garrett Luce, six weeks and three days, died July 20 at Columbia Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He was born June 5 at Great Bend, the son of Kenneth W. Luce and Leslie E. Cherry. Survivors include his father of Hutchinson; his mother of Great Bend; his grandparents, Betty and Bob Baird of Pratt, Wallace and Denise Cherry of Great Bend, Sandra and Sherman Lambert and Bob Luce, all of Hutchinson; and his great-grandparents, Theresa Lewis and Dorothy Jordan, both of Great Bend, Mary Lou Bronson of Pratt, Wallace and Betty Cherry Sr. of Larned, Eva Tracy of Hutchinson and Chuck and Mary Luce of Arkansas. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend with the Rev. Dick Ogle officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Cole Garrett Luce Memorial Fund or Sleepy Hollow Ronald McDonald House in Wichita, both in care of the funeral home. July 22, 2002

Marie Schauf Thomas 1904-2002
ELLINWOOD - Marie Schauf Thomas, 98, died July 20 at Woodhaven in Ellinwood. She was born April 19, 1904, at Dubuque, the daughter of Michael and Mary Ney Schauf. She was a graduate of St. Mary's Xavior College and Academy at Leavenworth. She married William A. Thomas on Oct. 28, 1930, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Dubuque. He died Dec. 1, 1989. A resident of Ellinwood, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Thomas was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Altar Society, Daughters of Isabella, Heritage Club and Study Clubs, all of Ellinwood. Survivors include two sons, William P. Thomas of Claflin and Robert G. Thomas of Ellinwood; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Michael Thomas; and two sisters, Germaine Schauf and Evelyn Jacobs. Altar Society rosary followed by Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Kimple Funeral Home in Ellinwood. Parish rosary will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. David Flagor officiating. Burial will be at Lakin-Comanche District cemetery in Ellinwood. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph's School Endowment Fund or Ellinwood Ambulance Fund, both in care of the funeral home. July 22, 2002

Sherman 'Jack' Legg 1922-2002
ST. JOHN - Sherman "Jack" Legg, 79, died July 21 at Pratt Regional Medical Center. He was born Sept. 15, 1922, at Hendricks, Okla., the son of Harrison and Nell Kimmel Legg. He was a high school graduate of Clayton, Okla. He married Magada Ruth Robbins. She died in 1974. He then married Dorothy Dennis on Jan. 2, 1980, at Eufaula, Okla. A resident of St. John for 11 years, coming from Eufaula, he was a postal worker at Oklahoma City, Okla. Legg was a member of Carpenter's Union and Southern Baptist Church in Eufaula. Survivors include his wife of the home; nine children; 19 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Southern Baptist Church in St. John with the Rev. Ron Miller officiating. The body has been cremated. A private inurnment will take place at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Pratt Regional Medical Center, in care of Minnis Chapel in St. John. July 22, 2002

Ronald J. Zehr 1943-2002
ROCKWELL CITY, Iowa - Ronald J. Zehr, 59, died July 12 at Lakeville, Minn. He was born March 3, 1943, at Manson, Iowa. He married Gaylene Dietz on May 14, 1963, at Elk Point, S.D. A resident of Rockwell City, he was owner and operator of Ronald Zehr Trucking. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Rick Zehr of Enid, Okla.; one daughter, Tawn Sempek of Liberty, Mo.; two brothers, Eldon Zehr of Anderson, S.C., and Eddie Zehr of Manson; three sisters, LaDonna Stoltzfus and Norma Schrock, both of Buhler, and Phyllis Vogt of Ellinwood; and two stepgrandchildren. Funeral services were held July 17. Burial was at Rose Hill cemetery in Manson. Funeral arrangements were handled by Palmer & Swank Funeral Home in Rockwell City. July 23, 2002

Leonard W. Lewis 1918-2002
LARNED - Leonard W. Lewis, 83, died at his residence in Belpre. He was born Dec. 25, 1918, in Stafford County, the son of Andrew and Susie Ratscliff Lewis. He married Roberta M. Martin on Nov. 26, 1947, at Larned. She died Feb. 1, 1998. A longtime area resident, he was a mechanic and parts man at Al Hanken Motors. Lewis was a member of First Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Eastern Star, all of Larned. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II. Survivors include one son, George Lewis of Belpre; and one sister, Arlene Engle of Lamar, Mo. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer Lewis and William Lewis; and three sisters, Lillian Chaffin, Margaret Parton and Ruby Ross. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned with the Rev. John Hestor officiating. Burial will be at Larned cemetery with military rites. Friends may call until 8 tonight, and from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, all at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, in care of the mortuary. July 23, 2002

Eunice Steinle Barton 1923-2002
RUSSELL - Eunice Steinle Barton, 78, died July 21 at Russell Regional Hospital. She was born Dec. 27, 1923, at Bunker Hill, the daughter of George Sr. and Molly Keller Steinle. She married Don Eugene Barton on June 19, 1946, at Great Bend. He died Aug. 18, 2000. A resident of Russell, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Barton was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Russell. Survivors include one son, Alan Don Barton of Russell; one daughter, Margie Deem of Meade; one brother, Albert Steinle of Russell; two sisters, Helen Wilhelm of Dorrance and Violet Stone of Great Bend; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Sam Steinle and Ben Steinle; and two sisters, Ella Mae Moser and Wilma Belk. A private family vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Russell Funeral Home in Russell. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Henry Hartman officiating. Burial will be at Russell City Cemetery. Friends may call until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home. July 23, 2002

Tanya Renee Nicholson Potter 1970-2002
LARNED - Tanya Renee Nicholson Potter, 32, died July 22 at South Crest Hospital in Tulsa, Okla. She was born March 29, 1970, at Larned, the daughter of William "Bill" and Betty Smith Nicholson. She married Ron Potter on Jan. 1, 1996, at Wichita. A resident of Tulsa since 1996, coming from Larned, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Potter was a member of First Christian Church in Larned. Survivors include her husband of the home; one daughter, Sara Nicole Marie Janet Potter of the home; her parents of Larned; one brother, Kerry Nicholson of Larned; one sister, Tamara Beckwith of Jetmore; and her grandparents, Irene Nicholson and Roy and Lenora Smith, all of Larned. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned with the Rev. Dan Lundgren officiating. Burial will be at Larned Cemetery. Friends may call until 8 tonight at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to Sara Potter Educational Fund, in care of the mortuary. July 24 2002

Dennis Mark Schartz 1938-2002
LARNED - Dennis Mark Schartz, 64, died July 19 at Allen, Texas. He was born Sept. 20, 1938, at Larned, the son of Julius and Hazel Posey Schartz. He married Sharon Smith. She preceded him in death. A resident of Allen, coming from Larned, he was a manager for J.C. Penney Company. Schartz was a member of the Catholic faith. Survivors include one son, Mark Schartz of Joplin, Mo.; two daughters, Teresa Dodson of League City, Texas, and Cara Schartz of Wichita; two brothers, Peter Schartz of Frankfort, Ind., and Weston Schartz of Wichita; one sister, Hazel May Fackler of Leavenworth; and eight grandchildren. Funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Larned with the Rev. Dennis Reed officiating. Burial will be at Larned Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned. July 24 2002
