LA CROSSE - Elizabeth "Elsie" David, 74, died June 30 at Rush County Nursing Home in La Crosse. She was born April 12, 1928, at Rush Center, the daughter of Ludwig and Mary A. Bouchal David. A resident of La Crosse, coming from Manhattan, she was a retired hospital chaplain. David was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church of La Crosse and Walnut Valley Senior Center of Rush Center. There are no survivors. She was preceded in death by one sister, Ann David. Funeral service was today. David Allen Marcum 1940-2002
David Allen Marcum, 61, of Great Bend, died July 2 at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. He was born Dec. 3, 1940, at Omaha, Neb., the son of Arlie and Evelyn Redman Marcum. He married
Karen M. Janing on Sept. 27, 1958, at Logan, Iowa. A resident of Great Bend for 38 years, coming from Omaha, he was a printer, salesman and owner of Precision Printing & Supply Co. Inc. Marcum was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Foundry Methodist Church, Eagle Scout, Master Mason and past president of Sunflower Shrine Club, all of Great Bend. He was involved in scouting for 25 years and was a member of Sand Hills Gun Club of Stafford County. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Robert E. Marcum of Independence and David M. Marcum of Lawrence; two daughters, Deborah K. Eyestone and Susan A. Pafford, both of Great Bend; his mother of Omaha; one brother, James D. Marcum of Omaha; one sister, Shirley A. Swanson of Apopka, Fla.; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathleen L. Marcum; and one brother, Robert E. Marcum. Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Great Bend with the Rev. Dr. Kevin Baxter, and the Revs. Jana Baxter and Mary Al Titus officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend cemetery with Masonic graveside rites by Great Bend Masonic Lodge AF & AM 15. Charlie Pozalek 1915-2002
LA CROSSE - Charlie Pozalek, 87, died June 29 at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City. He was born Jan. 10, 1915, at Timken, the son of Adolph and Anna Hamrdla Pozalek. A lifetime resident of Rush County, he was a farmer. Pozalek served with the 103rd Combat Engineers in Wales, England, France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany. He was awarded five Battle Stars, a good conduct medal and an American defense service ribbon. Survivors include two sisters, Ann Hendricks of Tulsa, Okla., and Ella Kucera of Republic, Mo. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry Pozalek and Eddie Pozalek; and one sister, Helen Pozalek. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Janousek Funeral Home Chapel in La Crosse with the Rev. Troy Schroeder officiating. Burial will be at Bohemian National cemetery in Timken. Lucy Agnes Moffat 1915-2002
HUTCHINSON - Lucy Agnes Moffat, 87, died July 3 at Thorne Care Center in Hutchinson. She was born Feb. 6, 1915, at Coats, the daughter of Edward Kelley and Mittie Pearle Vaught Moss. She was a 1933 graduate of Coats High School. She married
James W. "Red" Moffat on June 1, 1936, at McPherson. A resident of Hutchinson since 2000, coming from Great Bend, she was a homemaker and managed the family farm. Mrs. Moffat was a member of First United Methodist Church in Great Bend, Chi Omega Sorority, Great Bend Petroleum Club and Great Bend Country Club. Survivors include her husband of the home; three sons, Dr. Robert Moffat of Prairie Village, David Moffat of Park City, Utah, and Larry Moffat of Derby; one daughter, Marilyn Atkinson of Hutchinson; nine grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, James Richard Moffat; and two brothers, Kelley Vaught Moss and Richard Edward Moss. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Elliott Chapel in Hutchinson with the Rev. Nick Warner officiating. Burial will be at Wichita Park Cemetery. JETMORE - Ezra J. Deyoe Jr., 74, died July 4 at Center for Long Term Care of Olathe. He was born March 26, 1928, at Jetmore, the son of Ezra and Lena Anderson Deyoe. He married
Joan Paul May 13, 1948, at Dodge City. A lifetime resident of Jetmore, moving to Olathe recently, he was a retired farmer and cattleman. Deyoe was a member of United Presbyterian Church, Jetmore. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Jack Deyoe of Olathe and Ted Deyoe of Chetopa; one daughter, Sheri Boro of Springfield, Neb.; one sister, Eula Fern Lang of Dodge City; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Carroll; and one sister, Lola Shelton. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Mitch Reece and Chuck Merriner officiating. Ella Lynch 1911-2002
Ella Lynch, 90 of Great Bend, died July 4 at her home. She was born Oct. 26, 1911, in Barton County, the daughter of Herman L. and Anna Erb Petersen. She married
Ralph R. Lynch in 1952 in Colorado. He died February 1975. A lifetime resident of Barton County, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Lynch was a member of First Bible Baptist Church in Great Bend. Survivors include two sons, Allen Lee Ukens of Pawnee Rock and Kenneth Don Ukens of Great Bend; one daughter, Beverly Juergensen of Great Bend; 10 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one brother, Edward Petersen. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend, with the Rev. Robert Morris officiating. Maxine Wilson on Oct. 26, 1964, in Newkirk, Okla. A resident of Sylvia for six years, he was a truck driver for Mid Continent LP. Survivors include his wife of the home; five sons, Gary L. Marlow, Raymond L. Marlow, Clay E. McHenry and Alva E. McHenry, all of Great Bend, and Charles E. McHenry Jr. of Sylvia; two daughters, Cathy E. Streul of Great Bend and Carol E. Armstrong of Turon; his mother, Bertha Brown of Wellington; two brothers, Tommy McReynolds and Clayton McHenry of Oklahoma City, Okla.; three sisters, Caroljean of Independence, Evelyn McReynolds of Colorado and Lou McReynolds of Wellington; and 21 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Christine E. McHenry; one brother, Sunny McHenry; and one grandson, Darren Gindlesberger. Edith N. Brush 1912-2002
LARNED - Edith N. Brush, 90, died July 4 at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Larned. She was born Jan. 19, 1912, in Pawnee County, the daughter of Charles W. and Emma L. Shafer King. A resident of Larned since 1982, coming from Colorado, she was a practical nurse. Mrs. Brush was a member of Flying Farmers, and had served on the Modoc school board and Scott City election board. Survivors include two sons, James Brush of Garden City and John Brush of Roundup, Mont.; one daughter, Marie Brush of Larned; three sisters, Elma Kershner of Rozel, Leona Cane of Waggoner, Okla., and Hazel Woelk of Sheridan Lake, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Cremation was arranged with Beckwith Mortuary Inc. of Larned. Memorial service will be announced at a later date. Loretta J. "Joan" Ming, 70 of Great Bend, died July 5 at her residence. She was born Jan. 28, 1932, at Great Bend, the daughter of Hugh Thomas and Margaret "Maggie" McGinty Riegel. She married
George S. "Sonny" Ming on Dec. 18, 1948, at Pratt. A resident of Great Bend since 1953, coming from St. John, she was a Avon sales representative and retired certified nurses aide. Mrs. Ming was a member of Faith Community Church, baptized at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, both of Great Bend, and a member of Gideon's International Auxiliary and Avon's President Club. Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Jerry D. Ming of Great Bend; five daughters, Cheryl E. Cogdill, Susan K. Parks and Mary Jane Leshore, all of Great Bend, Cynthia J. Lyon of Wichita and Brenda L. Krier of Holiday Island, Ark.; one brother, Bill Riegel of Eaton, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two infant sons, Robert Ming and Ronald Ming; one infant daughter, Rita Joan Ming; three brothers, Francis Riegel, Bud Riegel and Robert Riegel; three sisters, Mary Everett, Margaret Fuqua and Mildred Greeson; and three grandchildren, Brandon, Bradley and Lindsay Jo. A resident of Hoisington since 1963, coming from La Crosse, he was an editor for the Oakley Graphic, Rush County News and editor and publisher of Hoisington Dispatch for 11 years. Ramsey was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7428, American Legion Post 286 and Lake Barton Golf Club, all of Hoisington. He was a member of Faith Community Church in Great Bend and former president of Kansas Press Association. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the South Pacific during World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Meredith A. Kitch of Scott City and Bethanie L. Baker of Manhattan; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Paula L. Blossom. Funeral will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington with the Rev. Fred Kirkpatrick officiating. Miller was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Milberger, American Legion Post 99 of Russell and Sunflower Polka Club. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, having served during World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Byron K. Miller of Denver, Colo., Randall R. Miller and Richard K. Miller, both of Russell; one daughter, Janice L. McCubbin of Grainfield; one brother, Edwin Miller of Great Bend; two grandchildren; one step-grandchild; and two great-grandchildren. Atha Hall May 17, 1948, at La Crosse. A lifetime resident of Rush County, he was a farmer. Kershner was a state spokesman for American Agriculture Movement. He was a U. S. Army veteran. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Scott K. Kershner of Rush Center; one daughter, Michele Whittom of La Crosse; two brothers, George Kershner of Great Bend and Frank Kershner of Rush Center; one sister, June Moeller of Loveland, Colo.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
