Clifford D. Mahurin
Clifford D. Mahurin, 60, Winfield, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006, at his home. Military committal services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery
in Winfield. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday. Born July 14, 1945, in Richie, Mo., he was the son of Charley and Florence (Siebert) Mahurin. He was employed at Morton Buildings as a truck driver until retirement. He also owned and operated C&S Small Engine Repair Service. Survivors include his wife, Shelley (Reep) Mahurin of the home; son, Thomas E. Mahurin, Seattle, Wash.; daughter, Tuesday Mahurin, Winfield; brothers, Charles L. Mahurin, Arkansas City, David L. Mahurin, of Arkansas, and Eugene Mahurin, of Texas; sisters, Maxine Cully, Geuda Springs, Marge Follis, of Oregon, Nina Daigle, Winfield, Connie Starlin, of Oxford, Irene Groomes, of Arkansas, Becky Mahurin, Winfield; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jerry D. Mahurin; sisters, Ellen Bennett, Marceen Mucklow and Gertrude Moody.
Memorials have been established for the American Cancer Society and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice of Cowley County. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Miles Funeral Service, Winfield.
Aidan Matthew Brumback
Aidan Matthew Brumback, infant son of Matthew A. and Kari L. (Dillon) Brumback, Coffeyville, formerly of Arkansas City, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2006, at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. No service times are planned at this time. Survivors include his parents, Matthew and Kari of Coffeyville; one brother, Aaron B. Brumback of the home; grandparents, Earl and Debbie Dillon, of Arkansas City, and Robert and Ronda Brumback, of Arkansas City; great-grandparents, Norman and Darlene Fry and Kelsey and Norma Dillon, all of Arkansas City.

Wayne E. Markley
Wayne E. Markley, 83, Winfield, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006, at the Galichia Heart Hospital in Wichita. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, at the First Assembly of God Church in Winfield. Military committal services will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m. today. The family will greet friends from 7-8 p.m. Born Feb. 3, 1922, in Springview, Neb., he was the son of Harry Aaron and Mary Maria (Peterson) Markley. He worked at General Electric in jet engine teardown until retirement. Survivors include his wife, Betty Jean (Daniels) Markley of the home; son, Stephen Albert Markley, Winfield; daughters, Nancy Cheryl Markley, Winfield, and Rebecca Ann Orr, Fall Creek, Wis.; brother, Arnold "Buck" Markley, Winfield; sister, Lola Clodfelter, Winfield; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Wayne Markley; his brother, Maynard Markley; and sisters, Carmel Miller and Verda Porter.

Glen Dale Nunn
Glen Dale Nunn, 74, Arkansas City, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, at the Harry Hynes Hospice Care Unit of Via Christi Medical Center, St. Francis Campus of Wichita. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home of Arkansas City. Interment is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at the Union Cemetery
near Anderson, Mo. Glen was born May 18, 1931, in Stella, Mo., to Cletus C. and Opal W. (DePriest) Nunn. He was reared and educated in Stella. He served in the National Guard. Glen worked as an independent truck driver for most of his life. Survivors include his wife, Juanita of the home; four sons, Bruce, of Grand Junction, Colo., Johnny and his wife, Kay, of South Carolina, William and his wife, Sharon, of Winslow, Ark., Charles and his wife, Anna, of Arkansas City; four daughters, Brenda and her husband, Hershall, of Joplin, Mo., Glenda and her husband, Tommy Jones, of West Virginia, Linda and her husband, Joe Dukart, of Joplin, Mo., Tonia Dulohery and her companion, Paul Gilbert, of Prineville, Ore.; two sisters, Mildred Williams, of Stella, Mo., and Euteva Cox, of Lawton, Okla.; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Violet Nunn.

Linda L. (Langhorst) Heape
Linda L. (Langhorst) Heape, 58, died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005, in Arkansas City. Funeral services were conducted at Grace Lutheran Church, Ohiowa, Neb., Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, with Pastor Judy Terry officiating the service. Interment was in the Ohiowa Public Cemetery. A celebration of life service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006, at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Humboldt, Kan. Linda was born Nov. 21, 1947, in Geneva, Neb., to Edward D. Langhorst and Marjorie E. Hogue. Over the years she had several secretarial positions. Her last position was as a nurse's aide at the Winfield State Hospital until it closed. Survivors include her children, Angela Christine Heffernon of Peculiar, Mo., and William Rex Heape III, of Humboldt, Kan.; brother, Larry Langhorst, of Arkansas City; sister, JoAnna Dunker, of Sutton, Neb.; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Marjorie (Hogue) Langhorst; and grandparents, Otto and Minnie Langhorst and Earl and Edith Hogue. Casket bearers were Larry Langhorst, Joe Langhorst, Dave Dunker, John Dunker, Tom Dunker, and Rex Heape. Honorary casket bearer was Tom Wells.

Maxine Dennis
Maxine Dennis, 81, Wellington, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006, under the care of her family and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Center at St. Frances.

Audrey Mae Nevius
Funeral services for Audrey Mae Nevius, 75, who died Friday, Jan. 13, 2006, were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, at the Blessing Heights Church of God-Apostolic Faith. The Rev. Jess Fisher, Pastor Tim Smith, Mike Neal and Tim Smith officiated. The eulogy was given by Rhenea Smith. Vocalist was Joshua Schmidt. Casket bearers were Loyd "Bubby" Mason, B.J. Belshe, Joshua Schmidt, Jimbo Schmidt, Thomas Musick and Isaac Rogers. Interment was in the Riverview Cemetery.

Norma Jean Sexton
Norma Jean Sexton, 67, Arkansas City, died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, at her home in Arkansas City. Funeral services will be held at Hawks Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, 2006. Interment will be in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Arkansas City. She was born on July 19, 1938, in Bartlesville, Okla., the daughter of John Will and Ruthie Ann Pauline Keithly Bridges. In the early 1940s, the family lived in Texas, moving to Arkansas City in 1945. Norma graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1957 and later attended Cowley County Community Jr. College. She married Vernon Lee Brewer on June 2, 1957, in Arkansas City. He died on Aug. 6, 1979. She later married Max Sexton on Aug. 27, 1982, in Miami, Okla. Norma was retired from the Presbyterian Manor where she had been a certified medical aide for 22 years, prior to which she had worked at Medicalodge East. She was a member of the West Kansas Avenue Church of God. Survivors include her husband, Max Sexton, of the home in Arkansas City; one son, Kenneth Brewer, of El Dorado; two step-sons, Johnnie Max Sexton, Wichita, and Lonnie R. Sexton, of Ottawa; one stepdaughter, Lana Moore, of Fond du Lac, Wis.; one brother, John R. Bridges, of Arkansas City; two grandchildren, Eliott Brewer and Emma Brewer; and three stepgrandchildren, Casie and Katie Sexton and Michael Cook. She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Vernon. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Friday.

Delores C. Waite
Delores C. Waite, 92, of Winfield, Kan., passed away Friday morning, Jan. 13, 2006, at Cumbernauld Village in Winfield. Born on Dec. 27, 1913, in Merrimac, Okla., she was the daughter of C. P. and Mae (Mickley) Williams. She was raised in the New Salem and Burden communities and attended Prairie Home Elementary School and later graduated from Burden High School in 1932. She was united in marriage to O. Boyd Waite on July 24, 1932, at her parents' home near Burden, Kan. The couple made their home on the Walnut Valley Hereford Ranch, the family farm, for all their married lives. Delores helped Boyd on the farm and was a dedicated homemaker. Boyd preceded her in death on June 1, 2002. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Winfield. She also was a 4-H leader of the Walnut Valley Club as well as a member of the Merry Maker's Club. Cooking was her specialty and she also enjoyed playing the piano and gardening. Delores is survived by her son, Dwaine Waite, and his wife, Theresa, of Winfield, Kan.; her daughter, Maxine Rusk, and her husband, Arlos, of Sun City, Kan.; her brother, Jay Williams, of Burden, Kan.; seven grandchildren, Greg Rusk, of Wichita, Kan., Clint Rusk, of West Lafayette, Ind., Mona Miller, of Medicine Lodge, Kan., Robin Phipps, of Kearney, Neb., Clay Rusk, of Medicine Lodge, Kan., and Justin and Austin Waite, of Winfield, Kan.; 18 grandchildren, Wrex, Wravenna, Waco and Warner Phipps, Micah, Jeremy and Anna Miller, Shane, Ashley, Casha, Carlee, Caden and Rooslana Rusk, Joshua, Jacque, Eric, Arista and Logan Boyd Waite. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Larry Boyd Waite, and a brother, Kenneth Williams. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, at Miles Funeral Service, in Winfield, Kan. Interment will follow at Mt. Vernon Cemetery
west of Winfield. Visitation will be from 8-8 Friday, Jan. 20. Family will greet friends from 6:30-8 p.m.

Jereme L. Parrott
Jereme L. Parrott, 28, self-employed lawn and landscape owner, and Watkins Motor Lines P & D driver, died Monday Jan. 16, 2006. A visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006, in the Garden Chapel of Watson Funeral Home, with funeral services scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, at Glenn Park Christian Church, 2757 S. Glenn. He is survived by his wife and son, Crystal Marie and Gavin James, of the home; parents, Michael and Connie Jo Parrott, Wichita, Kan.; in laws, Randy and Jan Valencia, Derby, Kan., and Catherine Valencia, Arkansas City, Kan.; grandparents, Nancy Parrott, Colby, Kan., and Marietta Ramsey, Wichita, Kan.; brother, Chad Parrott, and his wife, Christine, and their children, Taylor and Aaron, Wichita, Kan.; sister, Mandy Graham, and her husband, Bobby, and their children, Mikayla and Emma, Wichita, Kan.; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Clarice Reid Gaudino
Clarice Reid Gaudino, 87, of Arkansas City, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006, at the South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center. Memorial services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at the First Baptist Church. Private interment is scheduled for Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Clarice was born Feb. 23, 1918, in Newkirk, Okla., to William Henry and Bessie (Reid) Terry. She was reared and educated in Newkirk graduating from high school there. She later attended the University of Oklahoma on a music scholarship. She also attended Pacific Bible College. She married R.A. Gaudino on April 15, 1939, at Long Beach, Calif. The couple lived there until they moved to Arkansas City in 1982. Clarice was a homemaker, attended the First Baptist Church, and was a member of the Ark City Music and Drama Club. Survivors include two sons, Don, and his wife, Faith, of Yorba Linda, Calif., and Rick, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; two daughters, Gayle Knight, and her husband, Bill, of Seal Beach, Calif., and Lyn Meyer, and her husband, Jeff, of Arkansas City; two sisters, Marjorie Hodkin, of Arkansas City, and Jean Orr, and her husband, Ray, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; seven grandchildren, Cheri Knight Thummel, Wendi Knight Avanzino, Paul Gaudino, Shae Gaudino Tarka, Stephen Meyer, Melissa Gaudino Bray, Sara Gaudino Kallenbach; six great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, R.A., in 1998, a brother, David Terry, and a sister, Aleen Hart.

Melvin L. Nellis
Melvin L. Nellis, 79, of Arkansas City, died Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, at his residence. Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, at the Parker Cemetery. The Reverend Steve Chambers will officiate. Cremation has been effected. Melvin was born March 24, 1926, in Cambridge, Kan., to Theodore and Sylvia (Glass) Nellis. He worked as a plumber-boilermaker for Billings Plumbing for 50 years. Survivors include his wife, Betty, of the home; two sons, Lee, and his wife, Karen, of Williston, Vt., and Alan, and his wife, Patricia, of Fulton, Mo.; a brother, Ed Nellis, of Linwood, Kan.; a sister, Doris Davidson, of Topeka; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Paul Nellis.

Norma Jean Sexton
Funeral services for Norma Jean Sexton, 67, who died at her home in Arkansas City on Jan. 18, 2006, were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, at Hawks Funeral Home. The Reverend Bill Benefiel officiated. Interment was in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Arkansas City, Kan. Vocalists were Wanda Hickey and Lavon Anderson. Pianist was Ann Looney. Casket bearers were John Bridges Jr., Timothy King, Tamo Williams, Patrick Shook, Justin Partridge and Daren Lewman.

Robert J. Billups, 47, of Arkansas City, Kan., died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006, at his home.
