EL DORADO - Winifred Ella Strassburg, 90, died June 11 at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado. She was born March 10, 1912, at Belpre, the daughter of Winfred Orlando and Theodosia Ella Robinson Durstine. She married
Raymond E. Strassburg Dec. 22, 1940, at Belpre. He died Jan. 20, 1994. A resident of El Dorado since 1995, coming from rural Kinsley, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Strassburg was a member of First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, both of Kinsley. Survivors include two sons, Bruce Strassburg of Lewis and Doug Strassburg of El Dorado; one daughter, Linda Thomson of El Dorado; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Belpre cemetery with Galen Boehme officiating. Emily Elizabeth Mills 1992-2002
STORY CITY, Iowa - Emily Elizabeth Mills. 9, died June 11 at Laramie, Wyo., as the result of an automobile accident. She was born June 22, 1992, at Manhattan, the daughter of Walter F. and Cami G. Hofmeister Mills. A resident of Story City, she was a fourth grade student. Mills was a member of Cornerstone Church in Ames, Iowa. She was involved in soccer and basketball in city recreation league in Iowa and was active in community service with Helping Hands of Iowa. Survivors include her mother of Story City; one brother, Hunter F. Mills of Story City; her grandparents, Fred and Paula Hofmeister of Claflin and Ron and Charla Mills of Pueblo, Colo.; and her great-grandparents, Elmer and Menta Hofmeister of Claflin and Esther Horting of Tescott. She was preceded in death by her father, Walter F. Mills. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church in Claflin with the Rev. Janet Myers officiating. ATTICA - Harry L. "Brick" Achenbach, 88, died June 12 at Harper. He was born April 23, 1914, in Clay County, the son of Ralph and Ethel Gudgel Achenbach. He married
Ruby Thompson Oct. 2, 1945. A resident of Attica, he was a retired truck driver for Ames Oil Co. Achenbach was a member of United Methodist Church in Attica. Survivors include his wife of the home; three daughters, Janice Troyer of Leavenworth, Connie Peetoom of Attica and Gloria Biby of McPherson; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. UTICA - Vera M. Curtis, 89, died June 13 at Alterra Sterling House in Great Bend. She was born Oct. 19, 1912, in Lane County, the daughter of James and Ola Alexander Conner. She married
Willie Curtis March 3, 1934, at Dodge City. He died Oct. 3, 1963. A lifetime resident of Lane and Ness Counties, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Curtis was a member of the Church of Christ in Utica. Survivors include two sons, Bill Curtis of Scott City and Robert Curtis of Ransom; one daughter, Patricia Steffens of Imperial, Calif.; two sisters, Hazel Basinger of Burlington, Colo., and Leora Lockard of Louisville, Ky.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Twila Howard; four brothers, Jess Conner, Francis Conner, Chester Conner and Lester Conner; and four sisters, Nellie Castor, Alta Stormont, Maxine Axtell and Velma Hayes. BISON - Seth William Contreras, 3, died June 11 at Wakeeney. He was born Aug. 22, 1998, at Hoisington, the son of Ismael Joel Contreras and Teresa Cathrine Owen. Survivors include his father of Wellfleet, Neb., his mother, of Bison; two brothers, Sebastain J. Contreras and Levi J. Contreras, both of Bison; one sister, Farrah S. Schroeder of Bison; two half sisters, Saline Moore and Christy Contreras, both of Great Bend; grandparents, Hector and Lee Contreras of Wellfleet and Richard and Beverly Owen of Bison. HOLYROOD - Agnes Louise Warlop, 85, died June 11 at Ellsworth County Hospital. She was born July 21, 1916, at Bushton, the daughter of Chris J. and Emma Feist Stumps. She married
Jules Frank Warlop on Aug. 22, 1940, at Lyons. He died Jan. 25, 1974. A resident of Bushton since 1951, she was a beauty operator. Mrs. Warlop was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Holyrood. Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Stahl of Kailua, Hawaii, and Carol Bradford of Bushton; two brothers, Walter Stumps of Bushton and Jerome Stumps of Los Angeles, Calif.; three sisters, Dolores Emmerich of Hastings, Neb., Teresa Shipley and Joan Breford, both of Holyrood; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Woodrow Wilson Robinson 1918-2002
HOISINGTON - Woodrow Wilson Robinson, 83, died June 10 at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. He was born Sept. 10, 1918, at Crowville, La., the son of Ernest R. and Cora V. Flowers Robinson. He married
Leona C. Zorn on May 15, 1946, at Meadville, Miss. Recently moving to Great Bend, coming from Hoisington, he was employed by Sears & Roebuck for 27 years and was a brakeman for Missouri Pacific Railroad for 13 years before his retirement. Robinson was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Great Bend, National Association Railroad Veteran Employees, and a former local and county 4-H leader in Hoisington and Barton County. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, of World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Judi Drake of Great Bend and Brenda Webb of St. Louis, Mo.; one sister, Alberta Haddox of Redding, Calif.; three grandsons; eight step grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and 23 step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lamar Robinson, Morrell Robinson and Whitfield Robinson; and two sisters, Mary Alice Byrd and Donis Richardson. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Hal Staats officiating. June L. LaVone Newcomer, April 6, 1948, at La Crosse. A resident of Scott City since 1948, coming from Great Bend, he was a manager at Quick Mix Concrete for more than 44 years. Vsetecka was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, both of Scott City, and a member of Western Bohemian Lodge. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Tom Vsetecka of Wichita, Galen Vsetecka of Garden City and Rob Vsetecka of Lawrence; two daughters, Terri Jantz of Holcomb and Kayla Steffens of Imperial, Calif.; three brothers, Joe Vsetecka of Wakeeney, Bill Vsetecka of Hutchinson and Leonard Vsetecka of Brunswick, Geo.; and one sister, Helen Suchy of Great Bend. GLADSTONE, Mo. - Paul Jack Perkins, 84, died June 10 at his residence in Gladstone. He was born July 24, 1917, at Granbury, Texas, the son of Marion and Jetta Paramore Perkins. He married
Virginia Baer Dec. 27, 1953, at Riley. A resident of Gladstone, coming from Riley, he was a supply clerk at Fort Riley for 20 years until his retirement in 1982. Perkins was a member of Riley United Methodist Church and Riley Lions Club. He was a U.S. Army Corp veteran, of World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Eugene Perkins of Great Bend and Craig Perkins of Kansas City, Mo.; one sister, Dorothy Jane Carruthers of Ventura, Calif.; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, David Perkins. Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Kevin Larson officiating. Burial will be at Riley Cemetery. Roy E. Lindsey 1908-2002
Roy E. Lindsey, 94, of Great Bend, died June 9 at his residence. He was born March 15, 1908, in McDonald County, Mo., the son of Edward and Cora Day Lindsey. He married
Marie Hodgen Oct. 16, 1927, at Stinnett, Texas. She died Jan. 9, 1992. A resident of Great Bend since 1947, coming from Jefferson City, Mo., he was a petroleum engineer for Phillips Petroleum for 45 years, until his retirement in 1970. Lindsey was a member of First Southern Baptist Church and Eagles Lodge No. 646, both of Great Bend. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge of Jefferson City, receiving his 50-year pin. Survivors include one son, Roy Lindsey of Great Bend; three daughters, Joyce Koons of Lindsborg, Susie Snider of Dennison, Texas, and Sandy Monroe of Great Bend; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Joan Johnson; and six brothers. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend with the Rev. Dr. Doyle Smith officiating. Prem Gary on Sept. 1, 1929, at Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He died in June, 1976. A resident of Barton County for four years, coming from Otis and Fort Lauderdale, Fla., she was a professional long distance swimmer and homemaker. Mrs. Gary was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Albert and a volunteer for American Red Cross in New Jersey. Survivors include two daughters, Leslie Gary of Hoisington and Margaret Gary of Otis; one brother, Charles Hertle; and one grandson. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Hertle and Edna O'Brian. Funeral service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Cremation has taken place. Genevieve M. Tauscher on Dec. 30, 1941, at Hoisington. A resident of Hoisington, he was a farmer and stockman. Reif was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1521, Nocturnal Adoration Society, life member of American Legion Post 286 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7428, all of Hoisington. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Alan F. Reif of Olathe; one daughter, Susan J. Richardson of Hutchinson; two sisters, Ann Brockel and Eleanor Aylward, both of Hoisington; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Finger and Mathilda Brockel.
