LA CROSSE - Clarice Schiedeman, 84, died March 30 in La Crosse. She was born May 7, 1917, in rural Pawnee, the daughter of Claude and Bertha Bates Williamson. She was a 1936 graduate of La Crosse High School in La Crosse. She married
Arthur "Art" Schiedeman Sept. 24, 1942, in La Crosse. A lifelong resident of Rush County, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Schiedeman was a member of United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, church organist for more than 40 years and Pro-Art Music Club, all of La Crosse. Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Lyle Gene Schiedeman of Guthrie, Okla.; two daughters, Linda Arlene Siegrist of La Crosse and Janis Claire Mullinnix of Aurora, Colo.; two brothers, Clyde Williamson and Edward Williamson, both of Springdale, Ark.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by one brother, Glade Williamson. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Marilyn Christmore officiating. Burial will be at La Crosse City Cemetery. McPHERSON - Shirley A. Hill, 70, died March 31 at Memorial Hospital in McPherson. She was born Jan. 14, 1932, in York, Neb., the daughter of C.N. "Pop" and Bernice Amelia Froyck Shafer. She was a 1950 graduate of McPherson High School. She married
Robert L. Hill May 20, 1950, in Albuquerque, N.M. A resident of McPherson since 1938, coming from Lindsborg, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Hill was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Naomi Guild of the church, American Legion Post 24 Ladies Auxiliary and charter member of Jolly Jills E.H.U., all of McPherson. Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, Craig Hill of Moundridge and David Hill of McPherson; two daughters, Debra L. "Debi" Hill of McPherson and Barbara "Barbi" Harris of Great Bend; three sisters, Virginia Charlson of Lindsborg, Vivian Johnson and Margaret Jean Grant, both of McPherson; and seven grandchildren. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Michael Fibranz officiating. Burial will be at McPherson Cemetery. Ramona 'Mona' J. Keenan 1930-2002
Ramona "Mona" J. Keenan, 72, of Great Bend, died May 27 at Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita. She was born April 6, 1930, at Kingman, the daughter of Jacob L. and Olga V. Schrag Goering. She was a graduate of Kingman High School and University of Kansas with a degree in music. She married
Larry E. Keenan on Dec. 22, 1952, at Wichita. A resident of Great Bend since 1958, coming from Junction City, she was a musician and a homemaker. Mrs. Keenan was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Altar Society and was church organist. She was also involved in many musical and civic endeavors including Parnassus, PEO and the Concord Group. Survivors include her husband of the home; three sons, Timothy R. Keenan and Martin J. Keenan, both of Great Bend and Matthew D. Keenan of Leawood; two daughters, Katherine A. Miller of Wichita and Elizabeth J. Hudak of Prairie Village; and 13 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Victor Goering. Vigil service will be at 7 tonight at the church. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Eugene P. Agnes Merrington 1912-2002
Agnes Merrington, 89, of Great Bend, died May 25 at Integrated Health Services of Great Bend. She was born Dec. 11, 1912, at Great Bend, the daughter of Perry and Gertrude Hoadley Flory. She married
Kenneth Clawson on June 9, 1928, at Hoisington. He died March 17, 1988. She married
Vi Cal Merrington on Oct. 5, 1953, at Long Beach, Calif. He died March 10, 1967. A resident of Great Bend for 64 years, she was a floral designer at Long Beach and a clerk for Montgomery Ward in Great Bend. Mrs. Merrington was a member of First United Methodist Church, Central Kansas Thread Benders Quilt Guild and a lifetime member of Order of Eastern Star, all of Great Bend. Survivors include one son, Floyd L. Clawson of Ventura, Calif.; one daughter, Betty Banks of Great Bend; one sister, Dorothy Hagen of Sapulpa, Okla.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place. A private family inurnment will be held at Great Bend cemetery at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Erma L. Disque 1928-2002
LYONS - Erma L. Disque, 73, died May 27 at Hutchinson Hospital. She was born Sept. 7, 1928, at White Cloud, the daughter of Clem and Minnie McBee Cogdill. She was a 1946 graduate and valedictorian of White Cloud High School, a 1948 graduate of Highland Community College and a graduate of Kansas City General Hospital School of Medical Technology. She married
Herman A. Disque on Aug. 15, 1954, at Ellsworth. A resident of Lyons since 1954, she was a retired registered medical laboratory technologist at Ellsworth Hospital and Clinic. Mrs. Disque was a member of First Presbyterian Church, church elder, Order of Eastern Star, Pleasantview EHU, former finance committee member and former choir member, all of Lyons. She was also a member of Russell Shrine Club Wives and former president of New Voice Club. Survivors include her husband of the home; three daughters, Jeanette Disque of Stafford, and Lynne Watts and Denise Wise, both of Elizabeth, Colo.; and two grandchildren. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Tom Robson officiating. Burial will be at Lyons Municipal Cemetery. LARNED-Amanda Gail Nash, 19, died May 25 near Rozel. She was born March 10, 1983, at Elkhart, the daughter of Roger and Brenda Sue Caldwell Nash. A resident of Larned for two years, coming from Garden City, she was a cook for Larned State Hospital. Survivors include her father and stepmother, Roger and Laura Nash of Larned; her mother, Brenda Sue Copeland of Cookeville, Tenn.; one sister, Susan Sentel of Sparta, Tenn.; two stepbrothers, Randall Wesley and Clifton Wade Rodriguez, both of Larned. Memorial service will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Morell Funeral Home of Larned with Lee Bird officiating. The body was cremated. KINSLEY-Walter John Schroeder, 89, died May 26 at Good Samaritan Center in Dodge City. He was born May 28, 1912, at Breda, Iowa, the son of Henry and Frances Knobbe Schroeder. A resident of Kinsley, he was a laborer. Schroeder was a U. S. veteran of World War II. Survivors include one nephew, Richard Schroeder of Jetmore. Walter Earl Crist Jan. 7, 1945, at Bentonville, Ark. A resident of rural Great Bend for nine years, coming from Pawnee Rock, she worked for the laundry department at Central Kansas Medical Center and was an Avon sales representative. Mrs. Crist was a member of Community Christian Church of Great Bend and was a meals on wheels volunteer. Survivors include the husband of the home; four sons, Dale Edmond Carr Jr. of Pawnee Rock, John Carr of Great Bend, Edward Earl Crist of Pawnee Rock and Gordon Ray Crist; five daughters, Jan Flimp of Great Bend, Sandra Newkirk of Hoisington, Gloria Jean Calloway of Pratt, Tonya Apple of Larned and Karen Kay Gilkey of Hutchinson.; one brother, Clarence Mickelson of North Platte, Neb.; seven sisters, Olive, Bonnie and Betty, all of Ellis, Florence of Florida, Hazel of Hesston, Thelma of Manhattan, and Millie of Houston, Texas; numerous grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Everett Mickelson and Ralph Mickelson; and three sisters, Alice, Evelyn and Elma. George Joseph Schwager, 83, of Great Bend, died May 25 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, in Wichita. He was born March 15, 1919, in Kingman County, the son of A.J. and Elizabeth Schommer Schwager. He married
Luella P. Burhenn on Nov. 7, 1940, at Great Bend. A resident of Great Bend since 1935, coming from Kingman County, he was employed by Wells Furniture and was a farmer. Schwager was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church of Great Bend and American Legion. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; five sons, Robert Schwager of Wichita, Raymond Schwager of Hays, Roger Schwager of Ellinwood, and Ricky Schwager and Ronald Schwager, both of Great Bend; three daughters, Jeanette Soper, Diana Sanders and Shirley Headley, all of Great Bend; two sisters, Vernelia Williams and Dorothy Mueller, both of Great Bend; 21 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Sylvester Schwager and Gerald Schwager; and one grandson, Jerry Emerson. Evelyn De Haan on May 18, 1946, at Waukegan, Ill. A resident of Great Bend since 1991, coming from Stafford County, he was a farmer and stockman. Drew was a member of American Legion, Elks Lodge, former director of Radium Co-op and Pleasant Ridge cemetery board of directors. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; four sons, Ronald James De Haan of Pawnee Rock, Steven Charles De Haan of Hays, John David Drew of Great Bend and Todd Alan Drew of Wichita; two daughters, Diana Marie Pinar of Juneau, Alaska, and Lynn Rene Hurst of Boulder, Colo.; 15 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Duntz was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Mrs. Douglas was a member of Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints of Great Bend. Survivors include one son, Donald Douglas of Boise, Idaho; one daughter, Tava Toland of Orem, Utah; one sister, Delpha Douglas of Phoenix, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, LeRoy Douglas and LaMond Douglas; and five brothers, Boots Freeman, Cop Freeman, Harvey Freeman, Tom Freeman and Howard Freeman.
