Sarah Milam 1950-2002
SOUTH WOODSTOCK, Vt. - Sarah Milam, 51, died April 1 at her home in South Woodstock following a long illness. She was born Nov. 20, 1950, in Great Bend, the daughter of Horace W.W. Jr. and Edith Scheufler Milam. A resident of South Woodstock, coming from Littleton, Colo., and Santaynez Valley, Calif., she worked with horses. Survivors include one brother, Bill Milam of Edwards, Colo.; and two sisters, Marcy Scarpati of Santaynez Valley and Mary Fernandez of San Jose, Calif. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Green Mountain Horse Association in South Woodstock. Burial will be at a later date at Great Bend Cemetery. There is no visitation. Thalia May Wogmon 1931-2002
PARAGOULD, Ark. - Thalia May Wogmon, 71, died April 1 at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark. She was born March 4, 1931, in Mountain Home, Ark., the daughter of W.D. Sr. and Lois Newman. She married
Avery Wogmon. A resident of Paragould, she was a factory worker for Emerson Electric Co. Mrs. Wogmon was a member of Rosewood Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband of the home; one daughter, Vivian Cook of Blytheville, Ark.; one brother, W.D. Newman Jr. of Mountain Home; one sister, Ruby Lamb of Kansas; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one stepson, Carl Wogmon. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Heath Colonial Chapel in Paragould with the Rev. Kenny Crafton officiating. Burial will be at Linwood cemetery in Paragould. Carla Jane Leech 1972-2002
STAFFORD - Carla Jane Leech, 30, died March 31 at her home in Stafford. She was born Jan. 8, 1972, in Plainville, the daughter of Morris Jr. and Reva Sacket Leech. She was a resident of Stafford for 2 1/2 years, coming from Great Bend and Wichita. She was a member of American Legion Post 131, Ladies Auxiliary in Stafford. Survivors include her father of Great Bend; her mother of Stafford; three brothers, Toby Leech and Tyler Leech, both of Great Bend and Todd Leech of Stafford; three sisters, Connie Daniels and Christy Leech, both of Great Bend and Cindy Leech of Wichita; and her grandmothers, Daile Sacket of Alva, Okla. and Reva Fyffe of Great Bend. She was preceded in death by one brother, Terry Leech. Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Stafford. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Minnis Chapel in Stafford. DODGE CITY - Catherine A. Hertel, 84, died April 1 at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City. She was born Aug. 16, 1917, in Wright, the daughter of Henry G. and Ellenora Minet Kinkelaar. She was a 1942 graduate of St. Rose School of Nursing in Great Bend. She married
Edwin "Eddie" Hertel April 13, 1950, in Dodge City. A resident of Dodge City, she was a nurse. Mrs. Hertel was a member of Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Altar Society, Daughters of Isabella Saint Rita Circle and Nightengales, all of Dodge City and lifetime member of St. Rose Nursing School in Great Bend. Survivors include her husband of the home; three sons, Tom Hertel of Spearville, Marvin Hertel of Ensign and Dennis Hertel of Dodge City; one daughter, Vickie Pegram of Ensign; one brother, Bernard Kinkelaar of Dodge City; two sisters, Lucille Schroeder of Dodge City and Louise Bushnell of Carl Junction, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother; two sisters; and one grandson, Cade Hertel. Vigil service will be at 7 tonight at Swaim Funeral Home in Dodge City. Lloyd H. Rice Oct. 12, 1935. He died Aug. 10, 1986. She was a resident of Topeka. Survivors include one daughter, Claudia Waters of Topeka; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Donna Lee Linke 1938-2002
VELMA, Okla. - Donna Lee Linke, 63, died March 30 at her home in Velma. She was born Oct. 12, 1938, in Hays, the daughter of Henry and Evelyn Rupp Karlin. She married
B. Arlyn Linke May 5, 1955, in Great Bend. A resident of Velma, she was a retired third-grade teacher and school librarian. Mrs. Linke was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Duncan, Okla. Survivors include her husband of the home; three sons, Steve Linke of Duncan, Bob Linke of Norman, Okla., and John Linke of Lawton, Okla.; one daughter, Sandy Condit of Duncan; her mother; one brother, Ronnie Karlin of Great Bend; two sisters, June Hillman and Lucille Davis, both of Great Bend; and eight grandchildren. Robert L. Reid in 1938 in Kansas City, Mo. He died Sept. 14, 1990. She married
Richard Sellard Reid in 1950 in Wichita. He died June 24, 1984. A resident of Larned for 14 years, coming from Arkadelphia, Ark., she worked as a seamstress and homemaker. Mrs. Reid was a member of Ash Valley Methodist Church in Ash Valley. Survivors include two sons, Teddie Reid of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Parke T. Reid of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Wilma Creed of Garfield and Norma Zook of Rozel; and one grandchild. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned, with the Rev. DORRANCE - Elma M. Steinle, 94, died March 31 at Ellsworth County Medical Center in Ellsworth. She was born Aug. 23, 1907, in Russell County, the daughter of David and Anna Eichman Walter. She married
Solomon Steinle. He died in 1986. A lifetime resident of the Dorrance and Wilson area, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Steinle attended First Baptist Church in Wilson. Survivors include two sons, Darwin Steinle of Dorrance and Dwaine Steinle of Great Bend; four grandchildren; and four greatgrandchildren. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Evangelical Free Church in Ellsworth. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, preceding the memorial service, at Dorrance City Cemetery. Roger E. Parks 1946-2002
KELLER, Texas - Roger E. Parks, 55, died March 27 at his residence in Keller. He was born Nov. 27, 1946, in Hoisington, the son of E.W. "Pat" and Faith Arlene Holmes Parks. He was a 1964 graduate of Hoisington High School and attended Kansas State University. He married
Becky Burgat in Hoisington. A resident of Keller, coming from Hoisington, he was a technical director with Bell Helicopter for 20 years. Parks was a retired Air Force fighter pilot, attaining the rank of lieutenant colonel. He served throughout the United States and Southeast Asia. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Patrick Christopher Parks and Todd Andrew Parks, both of Texas; one brother, Kelly D. Parks of Valley Center; and two grandchildren. Graveside service with full military honors by McConnell Air Force Base Honor Guard will be at 2 p.m. April 3 at Hoisington Cemetery, with the Rev. Wayne Flanders officiating. Elmer "Bill" Shelton July 24, 1938, in Great Bend. A resident of Hoisington since 1954, coming from Otis, she was a homemaker and child care provider. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hoisington. Survivors include two sons, Larry Shelton of Park City and Ken Shelton of Hoisington; one daughter, Barbara Reese of Great Bend; two brothers, Charles Meyer of Sacramento, Calif. and Balem McReynolds of Enid, Okla.; one sister, Docia Hunt of Wichita; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Terry Lee Shelton; one brother, Merrill Meyer; and two sisters, Lillian Welch and Nancy McReynolds. Clifford John Ellis March 20, 1937, in Great Bend. He died June 10, 1971. A lifelong resident of Great Bend, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Ellis was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend. Survivors include two sons, John C. Ellis of Parsons and David F. Ellis of Great Bend; five daughters, Lucy I. Kennedy of Hutchinson, Elizabeth A. Stambaugh, Barbara L. Ellis, Janice M. Brough, and Rebecca "Becky" G. Gilliland, all of Great Bend; two sisters, Marie L. Lawrence of Bentonville, Ark., and Doris E. Rugan of Denison, Texas; 21 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Lawrence E. Sharolyn Marie Lipe April 29, 1983, in Miami, Okla. She died March 28, 2002, as a result of the same accident. A resident of Wichita for 16 years, coming from Great Bend, he worked as a contract representative for Duke Drilling Company and was formerly employed by Tretolite Company in Great Bend and Wichita. Meyeres was a member of Kansas Independent Oil and Gas Association, Western Kansas Chapter of American Petroleum Institute, International Association of Drilling Contractors and Wichita Petroleum Club. Survivors include three sons, Rick Meyeres of Bakersfield, Calif., Ron Meyeres of Austin, Texas, and Rian Meyeres of Zwingle, Iowa; two daughters, Robin Wardell of Helena, Mont., and Rochelle Meyeres of Wichita; and nine grandchildren.
