Erwin E. Major 1918-2002
LYONS - Erwin E. Major, 84, died April 18 at Lyons District Hospital in Lyons. He was born Jan. 12, 1918, in Rice County, the son of Edward E. and Charlotte Jackson Major. He was a 1936 graduate of Lyons High School. He married
Leona D. Donley Dec. 6, 1941. A resident of Lyons since 1945, coming from the Mitchell Community, he worked as a production foreman for Energy Reserve Group in Great Bend before retiring in 1982. Major was of the Methodist faith and was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars of Great Bend, 50 year member of American Legion of Lyons, Eagles Lodge of Hutchinson and American Pencil Collectors Society. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Linn Major of Dodge City; one daughter, Luanne Smith of Lansing; one sister, Madaline Rickard of Lyons; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Clarence Dale Major. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons, with the Rev. Cindy Watson officiating. Burial will be at Lyons Municipal cemetery in Lyons with full military honors by Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Friends may call from 2-7 p.m. today, with the family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. today, all at the funeral home. Maude E. Budge 1901-2002
ST. JOHN - Maude E. Budge, 100, died April 16 at Southwind Hospice Guest House in Pratt. She was born July 14, 1901, in Rockbridge, Mo., the daughter of Edgar and Lydia Catherine Souder. She married
Bogue Basil Budge Oct. 1, 1922, in St. John. He died Feb. 22, 1972. A lifelong resident of St. John, she worked as a clerk for Tudor's, Pansy's, Kathleen's and Lois's stores. Mrs. Budge was a member of Church of Jesus Christ and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, both of St. John. Survivors include one sister, Voyne Doris Gros of Salina; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, James Robert Budge; four brothers, Aubra Souder, Ralph Souder, Raymond George Souder and Wesley Edward Souder; and three sisters, Daphnia Brown, Ola Merryfield and Golda Wicks. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Minnis Chapel in St. John with the Rev. Tom Harrison officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Park cemetery in St. John. STERLING - Marquita Chism, 63, died April 17 at Lyons District Hospital. She was born Sept. 1, 1939, in Artisia, N.M., the daughter of Elmer and Betty Ogden Casey. She married
Al "Chis" Chism July 20, 1957. A resident of Sterling since 1973, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Chism was a member of Chase Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Jack Chism of Sterling; one daughter, Sharol Wagerle of Sterling; three brothers, Richard Casey and Ronnie Casey, both of Hartford and Jim Casey of Lyons; and one sister, Pam Capps of Olathe. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Lori Ann Chism. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Chase, with the Rev. Charles Kirk officiating. Shaun Eric Garwood 1967-2002
MACKSVILLE - Shaun Eric Garwood, 34, died March 30 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born Dec. 20, 1967, in Ellsworth Air Force Base, Rapid City, S.D., the son of Jay and Dawn Lynn Miles Garwood. A resident of Macksville, he worked as a truck driver. Garwood was a U.S. Army Reserves veteran. Survivors include his mother, Dawn Lynn Bell of Macksville; his father and his wife, Jay and Rhonda Garwood of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; one brother, James Bell of Macksville; one sister, Melinda Bell of Macksville; and his grandparents, Bill and Eileen Garwood of Rapid City. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Grace Methodist Church in Macksville. Services and interment will be held in Rapid City at a later date. Albert L. 'Al' Flanders 1918-2002
PARSONS - Albert L. "Al" Flanders, 83, died April 16 at Beverly Care Center in Smithville, Mo. He was born Oct. 24, 1918, in Barton County, the son of Milo and Nannie Becker Flanders. He was a graduate of Stafford High School, Hutchinson Junior College and Emporia State Teachers College. He married
Bonnie Robyler Aug. 5, 1956, in El Reno, Okla. A resident of Kansas City, Mo. for a few month, coming from Parsons, where he resided for more than 50 years, he was a retired school teacher from East Junior High School and Parsons Junior High School. Flanders was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and American Legion, both in Parsons, life member of National Education Association and Kansas National Education Association. Survivors include his wife of the home; three daughters, Mary Anne Denning of Kansas City, Mo., Nancy Orrick of Overland Park and Kristi Newland of Cordova, Tenn.; one brother, Mervin Flanders of Hutchinson; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by one brother, Cleo Flanders; and three sisters, Ethel Haddon, Pearl Harris and Ruby Craine. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. ELLINWOOD - Delores Hammeke Doll, 81, died April 15 at Central Kansas Medical Center, Long-Term Care in Ellinwood. She was born Feb. 10, 1921, in Great Bend, the daughter of Frank A. and Margaret E. Demrath Hammeke. She married
Melvin J. Doll Oct. 4, 1938, in Great Bend. A lifelong resident of Barton County, she worked as a nurses aide at Ellinwood Hospital and was office manager at Great Bend Livestock Commission. Mrs. Doll was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Altar Society in Ellinwood, and of the Sunshine Club. Survivors include her husband of the home; three sons, Richard Doll of Salina, Mark Doll of Wichita and Clayton Doll of Ellinwood; one daughter, Carol Herter of Claflin; one brother, Maurice Hammeke of Great Bend; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Randy Doll, and one sister, Alvera McCray. Altar Society Rosary will be at 3 p.m. today at Kimple Funeral Home in Ellinwood. Hazel Cleo Heyen Aug. 15, 1934, in Sylvia. She died Jan. 22, 1993. A lifelong resident of St. John, he was a farmer and stockman. Green was a member of Eagles Lodge of Great Bend. Survivors include one son, Jim Green of St. John; one daughter, Sheryl Rasmussen of Santee, Calif.; one brother, Leo Green of St. John; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Ila Rose Valyer 1922-2002
EUREKA - Ila Rose Valyer, 80, died April 15 at Greenwood County Hospital. She was born Jan. 24, 1922, in Fowler. She married
Richard Valyer. He preceded her in death. A resident of Eureka, she worked in the Coffeyville and Benton areas in the restaurant business.
Survivors include two sons, James Lee of Olathe and John Lee of Great Bend; one sister, Laura Walker of Eureka; numerous grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Valley cemetery in Stanley. There is no visitation and no memorials are suggested. W.L. Frye and Son Mortuary and Crematory in Olathe are in charge of arrangements.

Eunice Mena Maria Miller, 79, of Great Bend, died April 12 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus in Wichita. She was born June 2, 1922, in Stafford County, the daughter of Eric and Ida Bunselmeyer Fischer. She married
Merle Miller April 11, 1943, in Hudson. He died May 5, 1952. A lifelong resident of the Great Bend area, she was a retired EKG technician at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. Mrs. Miller was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Joy Circle, Great Bend High School '39ers and Girl Scout leader, all of Great Bend, and long time volunteer of Central Kansas Girl Scout Council. Survivors include one son, Gary Miller of Laguna Beach, Calif.; two daughters, Nancy Kirschberg of San Antonio, Texas, and Judy Wolf of Austin, Texas; two sisters, Sylvia Eddingfield and Elda Mae Glynn, both of Great Bend; and five grandchildren. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Hal Staats officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Floyd Leslie Huenergardt April 27, 1941, in Detroit, Mich. He died May 16, 1999. A resident of Hays since 1987, coming from Smith Center, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Huenergardt was of the Jewish faith. Survivors include two sons, John W. Huenergardt of Salina and Jim Huenergardt of Hays; one daughter, Judy Anguiano of Abilene; one brother, Herman Markowitz of Shorewood, Minn.; and one sister, Marion Greenburg of El Paso, Texas; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, George Huenergardt; two brothers; three sisters; and one grandchild.
