STAFFORD - Irvin O. Teichman, 91, died April 27 at Leisure Homestead in Stafford. He was born Feb. 18, 1911, in Hudson, the son of Karl and Anna Wittrock Teichman. He was a 1930 graduate of Stafford High School. He married
Mildred Russell Dec. 31, 1932, in Stafford. A lifelong resident of Stafford County, he was a farmer. Teichman was a member of United Methodist Church, where he was a lay leader and served on the pastor parish committee and administrative board, Stafford Lions Club, and helped establish Jolly Worker's 4-H Club, all of Stafford, German Valley School Board, Hays Township Board, Sunday school teacher, past member of Stafford County Fair Board and past member of Soil Conservation Board. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Dennis Teichman of Stafford; one daughter, Cibyl Ronen of St. John; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Hulda Brensing and Leona Siefkes. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Minnis Chapel in Stafford, with the Rev. Kasey Crosby officiating. Burial will be at Stafford Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral chapel. April 29, 2002
Elizabeth Lee Lichte 1914-2002
STAFFORD - Elizabeth Lee Lichte, 88, died April 27 at Leisure Homestead in Stafford. She was born March 15, 1914, in Russell, the daughter of Elvis and Mary Eastland Carter. She was a graduate of Russell High School. She married
Edwin Lichte Feb. 27, 1943, in Wichita. He died Sept. 20, 1992. A resident of Stafford since 1945, coming from Wichita, she worked as a beautician and for Beech Aircraft. Mrs. Lichte was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Stafford. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Morris of Olathe and Margie Ritter of Great Bend; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers; and three sisters. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Minnis Chapel in Stafford, with the Rev. Dave Vetter officiating. Charles R. Clingenpeel 1934-2002
WOODWARD, Okla. - Charles R. Clingenpeel, 67, died April 26 at his home in Woodward. He was born Sept. 28, 1934, in Stroud, Okla., the son of John William and Annabelle Smith Clingenpeel. He was a 1953 graduate of Stroud High School. He married
Bernice Schlegel Sept. 28, 1954, in Hoisington. A resident of Woodward since 1973, coming from Hoisington, he worked in the oil fields as a tool pusher. Clingenpeel was a member of Woodward Church of the Nazarene. Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Ray Clingenpeel and Kent Clingenpeel, both of Enid, Okla., and Mark Clingenpeel of Lake City, Fla.; one daughter, Kristi Maxwell of Edmond, Okla.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Joe Clingenpeel; one sister, Dorothy Bunce; and one great-grandson, Tyler Clingenpeel. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at the church, with the Rev. Kenneth H. Evans, Ph.D 1931-2002
PORTLAND, Ore. Kenneth H. Evans, Ph.D., 70, died April 23. He was born Aug. 8, 1931 at Great Bend. He married
Nancy Evans. A resident of Portland Metro area since 1996, he was a facilities manager for Department of Defense. Evans was a member of American Institute of architects and was awarded National Defense Service medal. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Andrew Hood and David Hood; five daughters, Deborah Kuiper, Denise Rosensteel, Cristin Reed, Lisa Miles and Susan Haller; one sister, Phyllis Beckvar; and 16 grandchildren. Funeral was held Saturday at Lincoln Memorial Chapel in Portland. There are no memorials suggested. Lincoln Memorial was in charge of arrangements. April; 28, 2002
Helen L. Hall 1912-2002
HUTCHINSON - Helen L. Hall, 89, died April 25 at Hospice Residential Care Center in Hutchinson. She was born Nov. 11, 1912 at Victoria, the daughter of Herman Joseph and Mary Weigel Linnenberger. She was a 1931 graduate of Hays Girl's Catholic School and a 1936 graduate of Nurses Training at Great Bend. She married
Edd B. Hall April 3, 1937 at Great Bend. He died Sept. 19, 1977. Survivors include two sons, Patrick Hall and Michael Hall both of Hutchinson; one sister, Hattie Pundsack of Great Bend; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two step- grandchildren; and two step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters. There is no visitation listed. Cremation has taken place. A private service and inurnment will take place at St. Fidelis cemetery in Victoria at a later date. Velma Herthel Beetz 1912-2002
HOISINGTON - Velma Herthel Beetz, 89, died April 24 at Life Care Center in Osowatomie. She was born Dec. 18, 1912, in Hoisington, the daughter of Walter H. and Mae J. Mowery Winter. She was a graduate of Hoisington High School and from Fort Hays State University where she received bachelor's and master's degrees. She married
Franklin L. Herthel May 2, 1937, in Hoisington. He died May 12, 1967. She married
James "Ivan" Beetz Aug. 5, 1976, in Wichita. He died Feb. 20, 1987. A lifelong resident of Hoisington, moving to Osowatomie a year ago, she was a retired teacher, having taught in Barton County Schools from 1931 to 1937 and later teaching in the Hoisington School District from 1957 to 1977. Mrs. Beetz was a member of First United Methodist Church, Methodist Women's Circle, Order of Eastern Star, Past Worthy Matron and S.A.C.S., all of Hoisington, Golden Belt Community Concert Association of Great Bend, national, state and local Education Associations, Barton County Retired Teachers, Association of University Women and Fort Hays State Alumni Association. Survivors include one son, Douglas L. Herthel of Olathe; one daughter, Karen G. Nicholson of Hoisington; three brothers, Calvin C. Winter of Great Bend, Dr. Walter H. Winter of Arvada, Colo., and Glen Winter of Lenexa; one sister, Dorothy Dowse of Claflin; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold R. Winter and Dr. R. Wayne Winter; and one granddaughter, Becky Nicholson. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Wayne Flanders officiating. Cheryl Clutter. A lifelong resident of Larned, he was a farmer and was manager of Garvey Grain Elevator in Larned. Clutter was a member of First Presbyterian Church and past member of Masonic Lodge, both of Larned. Survivors include his wife of Larned; one brother, David Clutter of Littleton, Colo., and two sisters, Cydney Pearce of Houston, Texas, and Alison Caro of Larned. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. at the church, with the Revs. Jim Hawthorne and Jack Singer officiating. A private family burial will be at Larned Cemetery. WICHITA - Lloyd F. Horton, 65, died April 23 at Riverside Hospital in Wichita. He was born Aug. 27, 1936, in Denton, Texas, the son of Rufus L. and Johnnie I. Roberts Horton. He married
Louise T. Batty Jan. 20, 1964, in Montgomery County, Tenn. She died May 24, 2000. A resident of Wichita, he was retired from the U.S. Army. Horton was a veteran of the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force and National Guard. Survivors include two daughters, Evette Fox of Wichita and Nicole Cook of Maize; two sisters, Patricia Kastrin of El Paso, Texas, and Linda Martinez of Antioch, Calif.; and four grandchildren. LARNED - Caris A. Greathouse, 70, died April 22 at Hutchinson Hospital in Hutchinson. He was born Feb. 13, 1932, in Jefferson County, Ala., the son of Rufus H. and Lillie Mae Fortenberry Greathouse. He married
Betty Beltz Jan. 10, 1976, at South Lake Tahoe, Nev. A longtime resident of Larned, he was a licensed mental health technician at Larned State Hospital. Survivors include his wife of the home; six sons, John Greathouse, Ronald Greathouse, Robert Groves, Joseph Groves, Thomas Groves and Shawn Akins; four daughters, Elaine Groves, Donna Fehrenbach, Jean Fear and Jaqueline Hale; one brother, Kerry Greathouse; three sisters, Joyce Sucht, Ann Wilcox and Barbara Erway; and 18 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Jerry Greathouse, Ralph Greathouse and Charles Greathouse. Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned. Burial will be at a later date. Friends may sign the register until 8 p.m. today, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday, all at the mortuary. Max O. Weber. He preceded her in death. A resident of Toledo, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Weber was a member of Olivet Lutheran Church. Survivors include one son, Mark E. Weber of St. Louis, Mo.; one daughter, Cathy Matthews of Raleigh, N.C.; one sister, Elizabeth Pivonka of Kansas; and three granddaughters. Graveside service was today at Toledo Memorial Park cemetery in Toledo. John Wayne Connor 1926-2002
CASA GRANDE, Ariz. - John Wayne Connor, 75, died April 19 at his home in Casa Grande. He was born July 30, 1926, in Hoisington, the son of William T. and VaLeda Simpson Connor. He was a 1945 graduate of Great Bend High School and 1949 graduate of Kansas State University. He married
Marilyn Herzog Sept. 3, 1950, in Great Bend. A long time resident of Loveland, Colo., moving to Casa Grande after his retirement in 1993, he was an accountant and co-owner of Continental Homes of Loveland. Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Kendal Connor of Wichita, Craig Connor of Casa Grande and Scott Connor of Loveland; one daughter, Laura Lee Ballard of Loveland; one brother, Richard Maurice Connor of New Bern, N.C.; one sister, Irene Commer of Joplin, Mo.; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, William E. Connor. Memorial services will be Saturday in Casa Grande and May 19 in Loveland. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. Virginia C. Henderson, 63, of Great Bend, died April 21 at her home. She was born Aug. 7, 1938, in Maunie, Ill., the daughter of Orval and Gladys Hucker Bloodworth. She married
Howard Henderson June 7, 1958, in Plentywood, Mont. A resident of Great Bend for 41 years, she worked as a customer service representative for Centel Electric in Great Bend before retiring in 1995. Mrs. Henderson was a member of First Southern Baptist Church and Eagle's Ladies Auxiliary, both in Great Bend. Survivors include her husband of the home; two daughters, Jacquie Disque of Great Bend and Karla Henderson of Wheat Ridge, Colo.; two stepsons, David Henderson of Woodward, Okla. and Curtis Henderson of Anaheim, Calif.; her mother of Great Bend; two grandchildren; and seven step-grandchildren. Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend, with the Rev. Dr. Doyle Smith officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery.
