Mabell E. Bowie Greenstreet 1901-2002
JETMORE - Mabell E. Bowie Greenstreet, 100, died March 11 at Hodgeman County Long Term Care in Jetmore. She was born April 22, 1901, in Mt. Hope, the daughter of Frank and Mattie Royce Jordan. She married Donald J. Bowie Sept. 5, 1917. He died May 5, 1954. She married Charles M. Greenstreet Sept. 1, 1957, in Clayton, N.M. A lifelong resident of Jetmore, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Greenstreet was a member of United Methodist Church and Order of the Eastern Star, both of Jetmore. Survivors include her husband of the home; one daughter, Mildred L. Rupp of Hays; two sisters, Leora Bailey of Emporia and Irma Churchward of Wichita; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sons, Kenneth Bowie, Lawrence Bowie and James Bowie; two brothers, Chester Jordan and Wayne Jordan; and two sisters, Fern Dilts and Edna Cochran. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Mark Durham officiating. Burial will be at Hanston Cemetery. Friends may call from until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, all at Beckwith Funeral Home in Jetmore. Memorials are suggested to Hodgeman County Long Term Care, in care of the funeral home. March 13, 2002

Norman E. Dumler 1930-2002
SUN CITY, Ariz. - Norman E. Dumler, 71, died March 8 at St. Joseph Hospital in Phoenix, Ariz. He was born June 8, 1930, in Russell, the son of Paul and Theresa Reissig Dumler. He was a 1948 graduate of Russell High School. He married Dixie Ray July 7, 1951, in Russell. A resident of Sun City, coming from California and Russell, he worked for Schlumberger Oil for many years, before moving to California where he co-owned and operated his own automotive remanufacturing parts business until he retired. Dumler was a member of Fountain of Life Lutheran Church in Sun City and Elks Lodge in Russell. He was a U.S. Army National Guard Reserve veteran. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Mark Dumler of Seattle, Wash.; one daughter, Kim Virtue of Baker, Ore.; one brother, James Dumler of Nixa, Mo.; and two sisters, Marjorie L. Pohlman of Russell and Mary Ann Vopat of Wilson. He was preceded in death by one sister, Vera Mae Gregson. Memorial service at Russell will be announced for a later date. March 13, 2002

Ben Kubo 1919-2002
RUSSELL - Ben Kubo, 82, died March 9 at Hutchinson Hospital in Hutchinson. He was born Nov. 29, 1919, near Scotts Bluff, Neb., the son of Ujiro and Konami Kinoto Kubo. He married Lillian Luekenga Huddleston Nov. 4, 1967, in Laramie, Wyo. A resident of Russell since 1975, coming from Scotts Bluff, he was a linotype operator for the Russell County News, retiring in 1982. Kubo was a member of Episcopal Church in Mitchell, Neb. and Kansas Press Association in Topeka. Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, James R. Huddleston of Colorado Springs, Colo., John F. Huddleston of Wichita and Jerry L. Huddleston of Tribune; one daughter, Gail Ogle of Russell; one sister, Rose Yamamoto of Gering, Neb.; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. MST today at First Presbyterian Church in Tribune, with the Rev. Mike Underwood officiating. Burial will be at Greeley County cemetery in Tribune. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society or Recreation Commission, both of Russell County or Greeley County Historical Society in Tribune, all in care of Price and Sons Funeral Home in Leoti. March 13, 2002

Gale Patrick Sechtem 1940-2002
RUSSELL - Gale Patrick Sechtem, 61, died March 10 at Hays Medical Center in Hays. He was born Nov. 25, 1940, in Hays, the son of Everett and Jean Talbott Sechtem. He was a 1959 graduate of Russell High School and received a bachelors degree from Fort Hays State University. He married LoAnn Eurich Aug. 7, 1963, in Russell. A lifelong resident of Russell, he taught shop and history at various area schools, before opening Sechtem's Cabinet Shop, which evolved into Sechtem's Wood Products. Sechtem was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 3034, both in Russell and National Society of Tole and Decorative Painters. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Phillip Sechtem of Overland Park and John Sechtem of Russell; and one daughter, Julie Sechtem of Russell. He was preceded in death by one brother, Everett Allen Sechtem. Funeral was at 10 a.m. today at the church, with the Revs. Charles Steier and James Grennan officiating. Burial is at St. Joseph's cemetery in Dorrance. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society or Russell Food Pantry, both in care of Russell Funeral Home in Russell. March 13, 2002

Maxine Boettcher 1939-2002
ELTON, Wis. - Maxine Boettcher, 63, died March 5 at Langelade Hospital in Antigo, Wis. She was born March 4, 1939, in Newton, Iowa, the daughter of Frank Augustus and Marie Autzen Dickerson. She married Richard Boettcher Dec. 24, 1985, in Newton. A resident of Elton, she was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband of the home; and two sisters, Dorothy Rodie of Hoisington and Betty Snodgrass of Newton. She was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Gordon and one infant sister. Funeral was March 9 at Bradley Funeral Home in Antigo. Burial will be at Elton cemetery at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Rodie for a family memorial, in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. March 13, 2002

Rita Mae Brown 1943-2002
HOISINGTON - Rita Mae Brown, 58, died March 9 at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. She was born April 23, 1943, in Ellis, the daughter of Al and Pauline Waldschmint Kisner. She married Raymond Legleiter in 1962, in Victoria. She married Russell Brown in 1974 in Great Bend. A resident of Hoisington since 1969, coming from Ellis, she was a homemaker. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hoisington. Survivors include one son, Gordon Ray Legleiter of Great Bend; two daughters, Karen Marie Hicks of McKenzie, Tenn., and Melissa Ann Spires of Hoisington; two sisters, Zita Davis of Hoisington and Shirley Jones of Great Bend; and five grandchildren. Rosary will be at 7 tonight at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. Funeral will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Ultan Murphy officiating. Burial will be at St. John cemetery in Hoisington. Friends may call until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Rita Mae Brown Memorial Fund, in care of the funeral home. March 12, 2002

Charles 'Charlie' Yusta 1917-2002
WILSON - Charles "Charlie" Yusta, 84, died March 10. He was born Aug. 18, 1917, in Ellsworth County. He married Rose Yusta on April 24, 1949. A resident of Wilson, he was a mechanic. Survivors include his wife of the home; one sister, Helen Payne of Grover Beach, Calif.; and a special friend, Neal Steinle. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Foster Mortuary Chapel in Wilson. Burial will be at Wilson City Cemetery. Friends may call until 8 tonight and from 8 a.m. until service time Wednesday, all at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to Holyrood American Legion or Wilson Senior Center, both in care of the mortuary. March 12, 2002

Elma Marjorie Henney 1912-2002
HOISINGTON - Elma Marjorie Henney, 89, died March 9 at Integrated Health Services of Great Bend. She was born May 22, 1912, in Hargrave, the daughter of Alvah B. and Lillie M. Johnson Rose. She married Frank Henney Nov. 29, 1934, in Scott County. A resident of Hoisington since 1952, coming from Little River and Scott City, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Henney was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hoisington. Survivors include her husband of the home; one daughter, Velda Joyce Speight of Farmington, Minn.; one brother, Donald Rose of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Gerald Rose, Wilbur Rose and Durward Rose. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington, with the Rev. Wayne Flanders officiating. Burial will be at Hoisington cemetery in Hoisington. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home. March 11, 2002

The Rev. Fred M. Tuzicka 1923-2002
The Rev. Fred M. Tuzicka, 79, of Great Bend, died March 9 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus in Wichita. He was born Feb. 23, 1923, in Otis, the son of Joseph F. and Sophia Matal Tuzicka. He was ordained as a Catholic priest May 20, 1951. A resident of Barton County since 1973, he was a priest, serving the communities of Dodge City, Offerle, Plains, Jetmore, Olmitz, Claflin and St. John. Tuzicka was a member of Knights of Columbus in Great Bend. Survivors include three brothers, Joe Tuzicka of Great Bend, Lester Tuzicka of Albuquerque, N.M., and Francis Tuzicka of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and two sisters, Josephine Pozalek of Timken and Cecilia Horacek of Munjor. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Wilford Tuzicka, Willard Tuzicka, George Tuzicka and Lewis Tuzicka. Family rosary will be at 7:30 tonight at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend with a Knights of Columbus rosary to follow. Vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Timken. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church in Timken, with the Bishop Ronald Gilmore officiating. Burial will be at Holy Cross cemetery in Timken. Friends may call from 4-9 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church in Timken. Memorials are suggested to Dodge City Vocation Office for New Priests, in care of the funeral home. March 11, 2002

John Jacob Piper 1924-2002
FORT WORTH, Texas - John Jacob Piper, 77, died Feb. 27 at his home in Fort Worth. He was born Sept. 20, 1924, in Great Bend. He was a 1941 graduate of Great Bend High School. He married Joan Piper. A resident of Fort Worth, coming from Great Bend, he was a retired Equitable Life Insurance Company officer. Piper was a member of First United Methodist Church in Fort Worth. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, receiving the Purple Heart for injuries received while under attack on his ship. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Ed Haines of North Richland Hills, Texas, and John Haines of Austin, Texas; three daughters, Jane Dodd of Arlington, Texas, Jackie Church of Fort Worth and Jeanine Walls of Arlington; three brothers, Harold Piper of Great Bend, Bill Piper of Kemberling Landing, Mo., and Ron Piper of Missouri City, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred McGeorge. Funeral was March 1 at the church. Burial was at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of Owens and Brumley Funeral Home in Fort Worth. March 11, 2002

Pauline Becker 1909-2002
RUSSELL - Pauline Becker, 93, died March 1 at Integrated Health Service in Great Bend. She was born Jan. 13, 1909, in Ness County, the daughter of Benjamin and Mary Uffelmann Karst. She received her nursing training at St. Rose Dominican Nursing School in Great Bend. She married George Becker Dec. 18, 1949, in Galatia. He died Mar. 4, 1998. A longtime resident of Russell, she worked as a nurse at Russell Regional Hospital for many years. Mrs. Becker was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, both of Russell. Survivors include one brother, Edwin Karst of Great Bend. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Alex Karst, Edward Karst, Benjamin Karst and Ted Karst; and four sisters, Mollie Clayton, Lydia Ohman, Millie Karst and Marie Funk. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pohlman's Memorial Chapel in Russell, with the Rev. Henry Hartman officiating. Burial will be at St. John Lutheran cemetery in Russell. There is no visitation, cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the mortuary. March 8, 2002

Harold Harvey Webb 1927-2002
HOISINGTON - Harold Harvey Webb, 74, died March 8 at his residence in Hoisington. He was born Aug. 22, 1927, in Drumwright, Okla., the son of Floyd Edmond and Beulah French Webb. He was a graduate of Sandoval High School in Illinois. He married Selma Flippin Aug. 26, 1952, in Wagoner, Okla. A resident of Hoisington for 37 years, he was a retired oilfield driller. Webb was a member of First Baptist Church of Claflin and Heritage Club of Hoisington. He was ordained as a deacon in 1959 at Western Heights Baptist Church in Cleveland, Okla. Survivors include his wife of the home; five sons, Alan and his wife Julie Webb of St. John, Mo., Paul Webb of Hoisington, Phillip and his wife Celia Webb of Hoisington, Mark and his wife Marcia Webb of Carl Junction, Mo. and John and his wife Courtney Webb of Noble, Okla.; one daughter, Martha and her husband Michael Jones of Wichita; one sister, Jane Cochran of Wagoner; one brother, Floyd Edmond of Tishomingo, Okla.; eight grandchildren, Corey Webb and Scott Webb, both of St. Louis, Mo., Joseph Webb of Hoisington, Samuel Webb and Nathan Webb, both of Dodge City, Rachel Jones of Wichita, Ryan Webb of Noble and Dacon Webb of Carl Junction; and four step-grandchildren, Heather Irby, Holly Irby and Sarah Irby, all of St. John, Mo. and Logan Jones of Wichita. He was preceded in death by his parents and one half-brother, Roy Webb. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington, with Pastor Matthew Price officiating. Graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Elmwood cemetery in Wagoner. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday, all at the funeral home. Family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Clara Barton Foundation, Roosevelt Elementary School or the Hoisington or the Golden Belt Home Health and Hospice, all in care of the funeral home. March 10, 2002

Marion O. Catren 1912-2002
STAFFORD - Marion O. Catren, 89, died March 8 at Stafford District Hospital in Stafford. He was born Nov. 25, 1912, in Ford County. He married O. Lorene Lavielle May 22, 1927, in Hutchinson. A resident of Valley Falls for 39 years before moving to Stafford in 1986, he worked as a telegraph operator for Santa Fe Railroad. Catren was a member of Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce, both of Stafford and he was a ham radio operator. Survivors include his wife of the home. Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sylvia cemetery in Russell, with the Rev. Kasey Crosby officiating. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at Minnis Chapel in Stafford. Memorials are suggested to Stafford Lions Club, in care of the funeral chapel. March 10, 2002
