CLAFLIN - Lowell H. Pelton, 84, died Jan. 7 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born Sept. 16, 1916, in Ford County, the son of Arthur H. and Jewell Tullis Pelton. He married
Fredia Klein Sept. 7, 1937. She died Dec. 4, 1975. He married
Mildred German Aug. 12, 1978, in Claflin. A resident of Claflin since 1978, coming from Burdett, he was a farmer and employed at Burdett Co-op. Pelton was a member of United Methodist Church and Booster Club, both of Claflin, Lions Club and 4-H Club, both of Burdett and the Good Sam Club. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Loren H. Pelton of Colleyville, Texas and Wayne L. Pelton of Wichita; one daughter, Nadine Francis Dolan of Manistee, Mich.; one stepdaughter, Peggy Lara of Oklahoma City, Okla.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers; and two sisters. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Janet Myers officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Browns Grove cemetery in Burdett. Friends may call until 9 tonight at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend, with family receiving friends from 7-8 p.m. and from 9:30 until service time Wednesday at the church. Marie McMillan 1908-2002
STAFFORD - Marie McMillan, 93, died Jan. 6 in Stanton, Texas. She was born July 7, 1908, in Preston, the daughter of Raymond and Ella May Reese Tedman. She married
Victor Harold McMillan April 14, 1928, in Stafford. He died in 1974. A resident of Stanton since 1994, coming from Stafford, she worked in retail sales and was a seamstress. Mrs. McMillan was a member of First Christian Church in Stafford. Survivors include three sons, Bobbie G. McMillan of Stanton, Truman H. McMillan of Wichita and David B. McMillan of Ventura, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Leona E. Tedman, Velma P. Bates and Myrle L. Davis. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Stafford Cemetery, with the Rev. Karen Ault officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to noon at Minnis Chapel in Stafford. Edna V. Kraft 1904-2002
HOISINGTON - Edna V. Kraft, 97, died Jan. 7 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born Jan. 19, 1904, in Lucas, the daughter of Dan and Myrtle Smith. She married
Leo V. Kraft June 3, 1925, in Lincoln. He died Oct. 10, 1977. A longtime resident of Hoisington, coming from Salina, she was a homemaker and assisted her husband in the operation of Kraft Shoe Store in Hoisington for many years. Mrs. Kraft was a member of First United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star Una Chapter 119, Heritage Club, Clara Barton Hospital Auxiliary and other community groups, all of Hoisington. Survivors include one son, Duane Kraft of Hoisington; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Smith. Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington, with the Rev. Wayne Flanders officiating. Burial will be at Hoisington Cemetery. Lola Margaret Shuttleworth 1906-2002
GENESEO - Lola Margaret Shuttleworth, 95, died Jan. 7 at Hutchinson Hospital in Hutchinson. She was born June 21, 1906, in Brookville, the daughter of Ed and Ida Mary Kuntz Shute. She married
Paige Shuttleworth March 21, 1929, in Salina. He died Jan. 22, 1981. A recent resident of Little River, after living most of her life in Geneseo, she was a homemaker and seamstress. Mrs. Shuttleworth was a member of United Methodist Church and 55 Plus Club, both of Geneseo. Survivors include three sons, Vance Shuttleworth of Lindsborg, Myrt Shuttleworth of Geneseo and Paige Shuttleworth Jr. of Salina; two daughters, LaDonna Griffis and Della Pruitt, both of Lyons; one sister, Ida Mary Olson of Atwater, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Dwight Neal Shuttleworth and Edward Teddy Neal Shuttleworth; and two great-grandsons, Josh Warner and Dusty Shuttleworth. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Bob Fleener officiating. Burial will be at Geneseo Cemetery. LEXINGTON, Neb. - J.N. Blankenship, 96, died Jan. 6 at Southview Manor Care Center in Cozad, Neb. He was born Jan. 13, 1905, in Garfield, Ark., the son of Carroll and Cammie Binkley Blankenship. He married
Verna Miles Jan. 20, 1949, in Elwood, Neb. A resident of Lexington, coming from Hays, he was former manager of the J.C. Penny Department Store in Hays from 1955 until his retirement in 1965, when he started a construction company building duplexes and apartments in Hays. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Bob Blankenship of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mark Blankenship of Reno, Nev.; one daughter, Marilyn Fairbairn of Garden City; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Jack Blankenship; two brothers, Carman Blankenship and Paul Blankenship; two sisters, Mary Brokaw and Vera Motzek; and one grandson, Kyle Fairbairn. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Seventh-Day Adventist Church in La Crosse, with the Rev. Pat Scott officiating. Burial will be at La Crosse City Cemetery. Adam Vincent Mayers 1985-2002
ALBERT - Adam Vincent Mayers, 16, died Jan. 5 in Barton County. He was born Jan. 8, 1985, in Great Bend, the son of John Charles and Marie Therese Zink Mayers. A resident of Albert, he was a sophomore at Otis-Bison High School. Mayers was a member of St. Annšs Catholic Church in Olmitz, member of school football and basketball teams, KAYS and Students Against Drunk Driving. Survivors include his parents, of the home; four brothers, John C. Mayers, Joshua Mayers and Zachary Mayers, all of the home, and David Mayers of Hoisington; one sister, Gabrielle Mayers, of the home; and his grandmother, Helen Blado of Great Bend. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Virgil Mayers and Tony and Evelyn Zink. Vigil service will be at 7:30 tonight at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Revs. Ultan Murphy and James Roth officiating. Burial will be at Holy Name cemetery in Bushton. ELLINWOOD - Hilda E. Knop, 86, died Jan. 3 at Central Kansas Medical Center Long Term Care in Ellinwood. She was born April 26, 1915, in Bromberg, Poland, the daughter of Frederick and Hedwig Feige Fuhr. She was a graduate of Great Bend High School. She married
Leonard C. Knop April 11, 1935, in Ellinwood. He died July 8, 1969. A resident of Ellinwood, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Knop was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Ellinwood. Survivors include one son, Gary Knop of Ellinwood; two daughters, Marlene Thomas of Trinity, Texas, and Beverly Bownes of Ellinwood; one brother, Kurt Fuhr of Great Bend; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Walter Fuhr, Alfred Fuhr, Ernest Fuhr and Paul Fuhr. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Andy Keltner officiating. William Kaiser Aug. 17, 1933. He died in 1985. A resident of Wichita since 1995, coming from Rush County, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Kaiser was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Otis and Christ Lutheran Church of Wichita. Survivors include one son, Donald Kaiser of Overland Park; three daughters, Margaret Dietz of Wichita, Bernice McFarland of Topeka and Vera Burns of Peck, Mich.; two sisters, Verna Schneider of Osage Beach, Mo., and Martha Margheim of Hoisington; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry Brack and Lester L. Brack; and two grandchildren. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Otis. the Rev. J.O. Rosenberg March 18, 1931. A resident of St. John, coming from Hill City, Woodston, Jewell, Great Bend, Topeka, Middle Town, Ohio, and Cincinnati, Ohio, she was an ordained minister with Assembly of God. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Harold Rosenberg of Aurora, Colo., and the Rev. Hugh Rosenberg of Cincinnati; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one son, Willis Rosenberg. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Pleasant Green Assembly of God Church north of Agra. Lula May Stilts Sept. 29, 1930, in Sioux Falls, S.D. A lifelong resident of Rozel, he was a farmer and in earlier years operated a grocery and meat market in Rozel. Ellis was a member of First Baptist Church in Rozel. Survivors include his wife of the home; two brothers, Louis Ellis of Blossom, Texas and Raymond Ellis of La Crosse, Wis.; and one sister, Helen Gilbert of Topeka. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Leonard Ellis, Harry Ellis and Edward Ellis; and three sisters, Mildred Bruntzel, Edna Routh and Dorothy Spreier. LARNED - Mabel R. Cobb, 96, died Dec. 31 at the Manor Care Nursing Home in Wichita. She was born Feb. 3, 1905, in Pawnee County, the daughter of Oliver Lupfer and Maggie Amelia McGee Rhea. She married
Leslie Cobb Aug. 28, 1928, in Larned. He died Aug. 10, 1981. A resident of Larned since 1918, she was a retired chief telephone operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. Mrs. Cobb was a member of United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Fort Larned Belles, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Historical Society and BPW, all of Larned and Southwestern Bell Pioneers. Survivors include two sons, William L. Cobb of Wichita and Rhea O. Cobb of North Bergen, N.J.; five grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, William Alvin Rhea. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned, with the Revs. Joe Cobb and Charles Grant officiating. Irene Hoffman Oct. 23, 1928, in Preston. A longtime resident of Beeler, before retiring and moving to Ness City, he was a farmer. Blakely was a member of Beeler Methodist Church and Beeler Co-op board. Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Dwilette Paulsen of Stafford; one brother, Curtis Blakely of Visalia, Calif.; one sister, Loleta Gail Spillman of Sherman, Texas; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Zenith Community Church in Zenith, with the family officiating. A second memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Beeler Methodist Church. James W. Stewart 1908-2002
LARNED - James W. Stewart, 93, died Jan. 2 at Halsey Hall in Fort Dodge. He was born Dec. 31, 1908, in Offerle, the son of William Thomas and Clair P. Smith Stewart. A resident of Larned, coming from Garfield, he was a farm hand. Stewart was a member of American Legion in Garfield. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include two brothers, Clyde Stewart and Dayton Stewart, both of Jerald, Mo. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Charlie Stewart, Russell Stewart, Floyd Stewart, and Clayton Stewart; and two sisters, Amber Amrine and Ethel Vay Hubbel. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Garfield cemetery in Garfield, with Ken Walker officiating.
