Norman J. Meyeres 1934-2002
NESS CITY - Norman J. Meyeres, 67, died Jan. 12 at his home in Ness City. He was born March 14, 1934, in Beaver, the son of Nick and Marie Frenzel Meyeres. He married Dorothy Schreweis Nov. 3, 1954, in Odin. She died April 27, 1995. He married Beth Bryant Aug. 23, 1997, in Ness City. A resident of Ness City, he worked as a welder in the oil industry. Meyeres was a member of Sacred Heart Church and American Legion, both of Ness City, and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Ransom. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Steven Meyeres of Garden City; two daughters, Kathy Kohls of Garden City and Nancy Renner of Dodge City; one step-daughter, Rene Borden of Bartlesville, Okla.; his father of Hoisington; one brother, John Meyeres of Bazine; three sisters, Flossie Ptacek of Great Bend, Betty Tauscher of Larned and Lea Zorn of Falcon, Colo.; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Kristi Meyeres. Funeral was today at 10:30 a.m. at the church, with the Rev. Gregory LeBlanc officiating. Burial is at Sacred Heart cemetery in Ness City, with military graveside rites by the Ness City American Legion. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Prairie in Dodge City, Ness City Recreation Commission or the church, all in care of Fitzgerald Funeral Home in Ness City. Jan. 15, 2002

Florence Juergensen Willard Davis 1922-2001
LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Florence Juergensen Willard Davis, 79, died Dec. 27 at her home in Las Vegas. She was born Aug. 5, 1922, in Great Bend, the daughter of Severt and Ida Juergensen. She married Harold Willard Oct. 27, 1940, in Great Bend. She married Ray Davis in 1964. He died in 1972. A resident of Las Vegas, coming from California where she lived for 35 years, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Davis was a member of the Lutheran church. Survivors include two sons, Lloyd Willard of St. George and Larry Willard of Glendale, Ariz.; one daughter, Janice Juergensen of Las Vegas; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Bill Juergensen, Andy Juergensen, Walter Juergensen, Emil Juergensen, Alvin Juergensen and Clarence Juergensen; and three sisters, Hattie Bauer, Gertrude Juergensen and Esther Burgess. Graveside service was Dec. 29 in Norwalk, Calif. Jan. 15, 2002

Louraine Adamson 1915-2001
GOLETA, Calif. - Louraine Adamson, 86, died Dec. 23 in Goleta. She was born Aug. 7, 1915, in Mayfield, Ky. She married Claude Adamson in 1955. A resident of Goleta, coming from Hoisington and Larned, she was a psychiatric nurse, working at Larned State Hospital, where she was named "Psychiatric Nurse of the Year" in 1953, and was given the opportunity of studying under Dr. Menninger of Topeka. She also co-owned and operated with her husband a 26 bed-and-care facility in Hoisington and later in Goleta. Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, George Spainhoward of Goleta; one daughter, Carla Zimmermann of Anacortes, Wash.; one sister, Delcie Jones of Guadalajara, Mexico; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral was Dec. 27 at Faith Baptist Church in Santa Barbara, Calif. Burial was at Santa Barbara Cemetery. Welch-Ryce-Haider Funeral Home in Santa Barbara was in charge of funeral arrangements. Jan. 15, 2002

Sylvester J. 'Butch' Peschka 1919-2002
MARQUETTE - Sylvester J. "Butch" Peschka, 82, died Jan. 12 at Lindsborg Community Hospital in Lindsborg. He was born Jan. 28, 1919, in rural Beaver, the son of Bruno P. Sr. and Cynthia A. Hoffman Peschka. He married June E. Vineyard April 13, 1940, in Marysville. She died Jan. 6, 1993. A resident of Lake Kanopolis for the past eight years, coming from Great Bend, where he was a resident since 1942, and Marysville, he was owner and operator of Ames Oil Company in Great Bend for many years. Peschka was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Elks Lodge, Eagles Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion, all of Great Bend, Kansas Independent Oil and Gas Association, American Petroleum Institute and Yacht Club at Kanopolis Lake. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include one daughter, Coleen K. Cape of Great Bend; his companion, Dorothy Morrow of Marquette; two sisters, Ciddy Vick and Sister Cresentia, both of Great Bend; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Robert L. Peschka; seven brothers, Johnnie Peschka, John Peschka, Mike Peschka, Bruno Peschka Jr., Frank Peschka, Lawrence Peschka and Donald Peschka; one sister, Val Rodman; and one grandson, Bruce Peschka. Vigil service followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at the church, with the Rev. Warren Stecklein officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Great Bend. Friends may call from 5-9 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Lindsborg Community Hospital, in care of the funeral home. Jan. 14, 2002

Rayford Lee Wilson Jr. 1949-2002
WICHITA - Rayford Lee Wilson Jr., 53, died Jan. 11. He was born in 1949, the son of Rayford Lee Wilson Sr. A resident of Wichita, he was a retired overseas oilfield production worker. Survivors include one son, Eddie Lee Wilson of Navasota, Texas; one daughter, Rae Lynn Payne of East Stroudsburg, Pa.; one sister, Claudette Wilson-Harren of Wichita; and one grandchild. He was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Lee Wilson; and one sister, Erma Skeleton. Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Broadway Mortuary in Wichita. There is no visitation listed. Memorials are suggested to Veterans Administration Hospital, in care of the mortuary. Jan. 14, 2002

Mary Louise Cammack Morris 1928-2002
KINGFISHER, Okla. - Mary Louise Cammack Morris, 73, died Jan. 10. She was born Aug. 16, 1928, in Mounds, Okla., the daughter of Frank G. and Sylvia Cammack. She was a 1946 graduate of Foster High School in Oklahoma City, Okla. She married William L. Morris June 26, 1948, in Drumright, Okla. A resident of Kingfisher, she worked as a legal secretary in Great Bend, Centralia, Ill., and El Reno, Okla. Survivors include her husband of the home; three daughters, Carol Everett of Great Bend, Janice Kloxin of El Mirage, Ariz., and Alexzandrea Morris of Oklahoma City; one brother, Marvin Cammack of Guthrie, Okla.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Francis C. Cammack; and one sister, Lela McBride. Graveside service was Saturday at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Walker, Okla. Resthaven Funeral Home in Walker was in charge of funeral arrangements. Jan. 14, 2002

Lois E. Hess 1930-2002
LYONS - Lois E. Hess, 71, died Jan. 11, at her home in Lyons. She was born July 3, 1930 at Lyons, the daughter of Alford and Chressie Heckman Colberg. She was a 1948 graduate of Lyons High School, attended McPherson College, and graduated from Emporia State in 1952. She married William C. Hess June 5, 1955 at Lyons. A lifetime resident of Lyons, she was a former grade school teacher at Park School in Lyons and substitute teacher for USD 405. Mrs. Hess was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Busy Bees, Sunday School teacher, Church treasurer, church organist and pianist, past board member of the Lyons Public Library all of Lyons, and Li-Ar-Mu Club. Survivors include her husband of the home; one daughter, Diane Lacy-Vogt of McPherson; one brother, Don Colberg of Lyons; and two grandchildren. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Bob Fleener officiating. Burial will be at Ebenezer Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-7 p.m. Monday at Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons with the family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. and from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church scholarship fund or The Lyons Public Library both in care of the funeral home. Jan. 13, 2002

Eddy Vratil 1910-2002
LARNED - Eddy Vratil, 91, died Jan. 10, at Via Christi Medical Center St. Francis Campus in Wichita. He was born Oct. 6, 1910, in Pawnee County, the son of Victor and Mary Elizabeth Svatos Vratil. He married Beulah "Susie" Carr, Oct. 6, 1937. A lifetime resident of Pawnee County, he was a farmer. Vratil was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion, both in Larned. He was a veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son Ronald Vratil of Great Bend; three brothers, Charley Vratil of Larned, Albert Vratil of Rogers, Ark., and Louis Vratil of Phoenix, Arz.; one sister, Irene Harrington of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by eight brothers; Bob Vratil, Roy Vratil, George Vratil, Harold Vratil, Henry Vratil, Frank Vratil, Lester Vratil, and Leo Vratil; and four sisters; Wilma, Helen, Bertha, and Emelia. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned, with Chuck Carpenter officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Larned Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, and until service time Monday, all at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the Larned EMS in care of the mortuary. Jan. 13, 2002

Esther M. Bell 1910-2002
LEWIS - Esther M. Bell, 91, died Jan. 10 at her home in Lewis. She was born Feb. 14, 1910 at Lewis, the daughter of Charles and Theresa Bowman Ary. She married Wayne O. Bell July 31, 1929 in Belpre. He died Jan. 7, 1975. A lifelong resident of Lewis, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Bell was a member of United Methodist Church in Lewis. Survivors include one son, John "Monte" Bell of Lewis; one daughter, Charlene Bell of Lewis; one sister, Pauline Brill of Lewis; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. David Bell officiating. Burial will be at Wayne cemetery in Lewis. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today. memorials are suggested to American Leprosy Ministry, or the church both in care of the McKillip Memorial Funeral Home in Kinsley. Jan. 13, 2002

Martha Louise Balman 1915-2002
Martha Louise Balman, 86, died Jan. 9, at her home in Great Bend. She was born April 6, 1915, in rural Edwards County, the daughter of Henry and Katie Adelhardt Schinstock. She married Melvin E. Balman May 6, 1946. He died Nov. 6, 1971. She was a resident of Great Bend since 1960, coming from St. John. She was a retired seamstress. Mrs. Balman was a very active member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, having served as a Eucharistic minister and wedding reception coordinator for more than 10 years. She was also a member of St. Rose Altar Society and the Daughters of Isabella. Survivors include two sons and a daughter, Timothy Balman of Salina, Mark Balman and Colette Wapelhorst, both of Great Bend; two sisters, Elizabeth Schinstock and Katherine Felder, both of Kinsley; one Godson, Don Schinstock of Nickerson; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Sister Francesca Schinstock, OP, and her twin sister, Rose Schmitt; and two brothers, Joseph Schinstock and Father Richard Schinstock. Altar Society Rosary will be at 3 today at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Vigil will be at 7 tonight followed by a Daughters of Isabella Rosary, both at the church. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with Father Angel Dy officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call until 5 tonight at the funeral home and from 6-9 p.m. tonight at the church. Memorials are suggested to Holy Family School Endowment Fund or American Cancer Society, both in care of the funeral home. Jan. 11, 2002

Clark B. Mitchell Jr. 1933-2002
GARDEN CITY - Clark B. Mitchell Jr., 68, died Jan. 9 at his home in Garden City. He was born Oct. 27, 1933, in Paullina, Iowa, the son of Clark B. and Zalla Belle Satterlee Mitchell. He was a graduate of Paullina High School. He married Joyce Maschino Stegman June 22, 1991, in Liberal. A resident of Garden City, coming from Hugoton, he retired from Northern Natural Gas Company after 34 years, worked at American Electric and started his own business, Mitchell Warehouse Service. Mitchell was a member of Bible Christian Church in Garden City. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Clark 'Burt' Mitchell III of Great Bend and Steven Mitchell of Liberal; one daughter, Jane Zahtner of Russell; one stepson, Michael Stegman of Liberal; two stepdaughters, Teresa Gorton of St. George and Michelle Mahaffey of Perry, Okla.; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Joel Mitchell; one sister, Marilyn Mitchell; and one grandchild. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the church, with the Revs. Jeff Starkey and Mark Ingmire officiating. Burial will be at Valley View cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday, all at Price and Sons Funeral Home of Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the Clark Mitchell Memorial Fund, in care of the funeral home. Jan. 11, 2002

Winfred C. Nicholas 1914-2002
JOHNSON - Winfred C. Nicholas, 87, died Jan. 9 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus in Wichita. He was born Aug. 14, 1914, in Stafford County, the son of Z.B. and Julia May Leiss Nicholas. He married Marcile Cross June 12, 1940, in Johnson. A resident of Stanton County since 1918, he was a farmer. Nicholas was a member of First United Methodist Church in Johnson. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Wendell Nicholas of Johnson; three daughters, Sharon Frank of Great Bend, Connie Harder of Moscow, Russia, and Tammy Bray of Colorado Springs; one brother, Ivan Nicholas of Johnson; two sisters, Vada Mercer of Bullhead City, Ariz. and Gwen Pentland of Phoenix, Ariz.; and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Laurel Nicholas; one brother, Herman Nicholas; and one sister, Juanita Neely. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Glenn Fogo officiating. Burial will be at Stanton County cemetery in Johnson. Friends may call until 8 tonight and from 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, all at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson. Raymond Boele 1930-2001
UKIAH, Calif. - Raymond Boele, 71, died Dec. 18 in Ukiah. He was born Nov. 30, 1930, in Benkleman, Neb., the son of John C. and Frances Boele. He was a high school graduate. He married Ruth Friedenberger Nov. 20, 1955, in Olympia, Wash. A resident of Ukiah, coming from Benkleman where he was a resident for 42 years, he worked as a welder for Daniel Steel and Remco. Boele was a member of the Lutheran church and Ukiah Promenaders. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Douglas Boele of Ukiah, Kevin Boele of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Darwin Boele of Redwood Valley, Calif.; one daughter, Gloria Aslin of Lincoln, Calif.; one brother, Robert Boele of Radium; two sisters, Margaret Radke of Russell and Donna Wynhoff of Portland, Ore.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by twin sons, Delbert Boele and Darrell Boele; twin brothers, David Boele and Daniel Boele; and one sister, Barbara Dean. Memorial service was Dec. 22 at Ukiah Faith Lutheran Church, with the Rev. M.L. Schulz officiating. He was inurned at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Ukiah. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of Eversole Mortuary in Ukiah. Jan. 11, 2002
