Arnita Vivian Tabler 1915-2002
LARNED - Arnita Vivian Tabler, 86, died Jan. 26 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Joseph Campus in Larned. She was born Dec. 28, 1915, in Caldwell, Texas, the daughter of John and Louise Bakel Johnson. She married
Walter Schermerhorn in the early 1930s. She married
D. Vane Tabler Nov. 1, 1940. He died July 24, 1989. A long time resident of Larned, she was co-founder, with her husband in 1952, of Tabler Furniture in Larned. Mrs. Tabler was a member of First Christian Church in Larned. Survivors include two sons, Randall Schermerhorn of McKinney, Texas, and Charles "Buddy" Tabler of Larned; two daughters, Jeslyn Schermerhorn Benson of Menan, Idaho, and Cheryl Tabler Kring-Mannion of Littleton, Colo.; two sisters, Naomi Scheffer of Amarillo, Texas, and Norma Hendley of Larned; and 11 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Eddie Johnson and Farrell Johnson; and three sisters, Mabel Johnson, Velma Johnson and Lorene Johnson. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned, with the Rev. Dan Lundgren officiating. Burial will be at Larned cemetery in Larned. Ernest Albert Morrill 1912-2002
LARNED - Ernest Albert Morrill, 89, died Jan. 27 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Joseph Campus in Larned. He was born Dec. 29, 1912, near Ulman, Mo., the son of George Albert and Edith Estella McNeill Morrill. He married
Jane Scherzer Heaton June 20, 1942, in San Luis Obispo County, Calif. She died April 21, 1967. He married
Eileen Rose Dickerson Dec. 19, 1974, in Galesburg, Ill. A longtime resident of Larned, he was a retired farmer. Morrill was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church in Larned. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 112th Infantry in Northern France and the Aleutian Islands. Survivors include one son, George Morrill of Larned; one daughter, Marsha Morrill of Lindstrom, Minn.; two grandsons; and two great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by one infant brother. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Morell Funeral Home in Larned, with the Rev. Jan Follett officiating. Burial will be at Larned Cemetery. Friends may call until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday, all at the funeral home. Alton R. Foster 1920-2002
GARDEN CITY - Alton R. Foster, 81, died Jan. 26 at Terrace Garden Care Center in Garden City. He was born Nov. 22, 1920, in Texarkana, Ark., the son of Alton Rhea Sr. and Patricia Lowry Carstarphen Foster. He graduated from high school in Little Rock, Ark., and earned a degree in music from Hendrix College in Conway, Ark. He married
Martha Mae Edwards Nov. 27, 1942, in Conway. She died July 19, 1993. A resident of Garden City, coming from Bella Vista, Ark., and Great Bend, he was a band teacher at Great Bend High School and was owner/operator of Foster Music Store in Garden City until his retirement in 1987. Foster was a member of Bella Vista Community Church, church choir and church quartet, and Kiwanis Club, all of Bella Vista. He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II. Survivors include three sons, Rhea Foster of Stillwater, Okla., Lowry Foster of Little Rock, Ark., and Jim Foster of Garden City; two daughters, Mary Beth Spellman of Garden City and Jane Hollingsworth of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two brothers, LeRoy Foster of Ashland, Ore., and Jim Foster of Harrison, Ark.; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. David McKay officiating. There is no visitation listed. Paul Eugene Means 1920-2002
HUTCHINSON - Paul Eugene Means, 81, died Jan. 26 at Pleasant View Care Home in Inman. He was born June 5, 1920, in Larned, the son of Troy and Verna Suffocoil Means. He married
Mary Imogene Francis Jan. 18, 1941, in St. John. She died Jan. 18, 1990. A resident of Hutchinson for 37 years, coming from Dodge City, he worked as a salesman for Rainbow Bread Betts Baking Company in Hutchinson. Means was a member of Park Place Christian Church, American Legion and RSVP, all of Hutchinson. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Survivors include two sons, Ron Means and Larry Means, both of Hutchinson; one daughter, Marilyn Ochs of Hutchinson; one sister, Orthella Boyer of Great Bend; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel in Hutchinson, with the Rev. Ed Pangbukn officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park cemetery in Hutchinson. Eunice H. Boor 1924-2002
HUTCHINSON - Eunice H. Boor, 77, died Jan. 16 at her home in Hutchinson. She was born April 8, 1924, in Burdette, the daughter of Charlie and Mildred Fagen Dovel. She was a 1942 graduate of Burdette High School. She married
William J. Boor Feb. 3, 1944, in Kinsley. A resident of Hutchinson for 23 years, coming from Ellinwood, she was a homemaker. Survivors include one son, Bill Boor of Sterling; four daughters, Linda Azzone of Wichita, Shirley Drennon of Hays, Sharon Proffitt of Hutchinson and Becky Harmon of Sterling; one brother, Howard Dovel of Henderson, Colo.; one sister, Elvira Zarnowski of Hutchinson; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph Dovel; and two sisters, Doloris Dovel and Alta Melia. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel in Hutchinson. Dale Dyke 1910-2002
TABOR, Iowa - Dale Dyke, 91, died Jan. 19 at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, Neb., following a brief illness. He was born March 11, 1910, on a farm south of Tabor, the son of Loren D. and Maudie Wolkins Dyke. He attended Tabor High School and Peru State College. He married
Maxine Boyer. She died in March 1992 in Great Bend. He married
Vesta Ruse in 1993, in Tabor. A resident of Tabor, coming from Bartlett, Iowa, Los Angeles, Calif., Omaha, Neb., Shenandoah, Iowa, Essex, Iowa, and Great Bend, he worked as a school teacher, test engineer for Hughes Aircraft where he helped to build the world's largest airplane, the "Spruce Goose." He also worked at Martin Bomber Plant in Ohaha, Larro Feeds, a division of General Mills, and Johnson Brothers Mills in Iowa. Dyke was a member of Congregational Church in Tabor. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Loren Dyke of Great Bend and D. David Dyke of Grapevine, Texas; one daughter, Theresa Bickley of Pocatello, Idaho; one stepson, Larry Ruse of Rogers, Ark.; one stepdaughter, Peggy Bailey of Tabor; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Glen Dyke, Owen Dyke and Willard Dyke; and three sisters, Opal Frazier, Wilma Sanders Stellman and Juanita Hamm Barrett. Funeral was Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Tom Clark officiating. Burial was at Malvern cemetery in Malvern, Iowa. Mark Wayne Dolezal 1958-2002
BISON - Mark Wayne Dolezal, 43, died Jan. 27 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident west of Hays. He was born May 29, 1958, in Wakeeney, the son of Leo and Bernita Knoll Dolezal. A resident of Bison, he worked as a concrete finisher. Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Bernita and Ray Scheuermann of Bison; one brother, Michael Dolezal of Bison; one sister, Judy Engel of Hays; and one stepsister, Susan Scheuermann of Salinas, Calif. A private family service will be held at Brock's North Hill Chapel in Hays at a later date. Cremation has taken place and there is no visitation. No memorials are suggested. Jan. 28, 2002
Esther Proop 1909-2002
RUSSELL - Esther Propp, 92, died Jan. 24 at Russell Regional Hospital in Russell. She was born April 8, 1909 at Russell, the daughter of Davis J. and Anna Steinle Waymaster. She married
Carl E. Propp Sept. 9, 1934 at Russell. He preceded her in death. A resident of Bunker Hill, she worked as a waitress, and later owned and operated Goergešs Cafe, and operated the Playdium Bowl in Russell for a number of years. Mrs. Propp was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary both of Russell. Survivors include one son, John D. Propp of Fair Hope, Ala.; one brother, Fritz Waymaster of Russell; two sisters, Alma Michaelis, and Irene Satchell both of Russell; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Dennis Propp; one brother, Leroy Waymaster; and three sisters, Pauline Ehrlich, Lydia Steinle and Elsie Schmidt Cain. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Henry Hartman officiating. Burial will be at St. John Lutheran cemetery in Russell. Helen L. Holmes 1918-2002
CHASE - Helen L. Holmes, 83, died Jan. 25 at her home in Chase. She was born May 29, 1918 at Chapman, the daughter of Tom and Annetta Anderson Prosser. She was graduated of Wichita North High School. She married
William Neal Holmes May 12, 1944 in Wichita. he died Dec. 21, 2001. A resident of Chase since 1948, she was a retired Chase city clerk and a homemaker. Mrs. Holmes was a member of Victory Church, and 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star both of Chase. Survivors include one daughter, JoAnn Strasters of Aransas Pass, Texas; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Russel Prosser; and two infant sisters. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Lyons Municipal cemetery in Lyons, with the Rev. LARNED - Daniel Robert Colglazier, 53, died Jan. 24 at his residence in rural Rozel. He was born Dec. 27, 1948, in Great Bend, the son of Robert and Evelyn Giessel DeRoo and adopted father Gail A. Colglazier. He married
Patricia Ann Wallace, March 4, 1978 at Luray. A lifetime resident of Pawnee County, a was a farmer. Colglazier was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Larned, past member of the Rozel Co-op board, and past member of Pawnee County ASCS. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Derrick Colglazier and Roy Colglazier both of Rozel; two brothers, Joe Colglazier and Ray Colglazier both of Rozel; and two sisters, Betty Ackerman of Offerle, and Fay Murphy of Garfield. He was preceded in death by one brother, John Colglazier. Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. tonight at the church. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. ALAMOTA - Thelma L. Vycital, 100, died Jan. 25, at Hodgeman County Long Term Care Center in Jetmore. She was born Dec. 22, 1901 at Gem, the daughter of Henry and Sylvia Thompson Deimer. She married
Winslow F. Vycital on July 1, 1923 at Salina. He died April 10, 1972. A resident of Alamota coming from Rexford, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Vycital was a member of United Methodist Church, 75 year member and past matron of Order of the Eastern Star 241 all of Dighton, charter member of P.E.O., and United Methodist Women. Survivors include one son, Jim Vycital of Son Lakes, Ariz.; one daughter, Joan Trebilcock of Alamota; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two step grandchildren. SYLVIA - Verda V. Beltz Etchison, 80, died Jan. 25 at the Stafford District Hospital in Stafford. She was born Feb. 5, 1921 at Durham, the daughter of Andrew and Susie Anna Unruh Beltz. She attended Sylvia High School. She married
Nathan Anthony Etchison Oct. 23, 1939 at Sylvia. He died Jan. 12, 1968. A resident of Sylvia coming from Plevna, she was a waitress at the Farrlane Cafe in Sylvia and a nursešs aide at the Siesta Nursing Home in Stafford. Mrs. Etchison was a member of Methodist church, United Methodist Women, Pleasant Hill Church of the Nazarene, and was a Senior Center volunteer all in Sylvia. Survivors include three sons, Edwin Etchison of McPherson, Ronald Etchison of Holyrood, and Donald Etchison of Haven; one brother, Andrew Beltz of Security, Colo.; two sisters, Beatrice Keesling of Hutchinson, and Marilyn Smiley of Stafford; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Merle Etchison, and Emanuel Etchison; two brothers, Javen Beltz, and Samuel Beltz; and two sisters, Bernice Keesling and Mary Beltz.
