Marian Stroope 1924-2001
LOS ALAMOS, N.M. - Marian Stroope, 77, died Dec. 14. She was born May 31,
1924 in Ft. Collins, Colo., the daughter of James and Kathryn Shaw. She
married Henry 'Hank' Stroope July 31, 1948. He preceded her in death. A
resident of Los Alamos, N.M., she worked with the Los Alamos Medical Center
Auxiliary.
Survivors include; one son, Dean Stroope; two daughters, Carol Relyea and
Gail Lance all of Los Alamos; one brother Kay Shaw of Roan Mountain, Tenn.;
one sister, Carol Frazer of Great Bend; three grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Monday at the National cemetery in Santa
Fe, N.M. A memorial service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the First Baptist
Church in Los Alamos with the Rev. Barbara Henderson performing the service.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society in care of McGee

Albert Hickerson 1921-2001
Albert Hickerson, 80, of Great Bend died Dec. 14 at Hoisington
Rehabilitation Center in Hoisington. He was born Aug. 2, 1921 at Marion
County, the son of Albert and Eva Hickerson. He married
Virginia Mac Leedy
Feb. 28, 1943 in Wichita. She died Sept. 10, 2000. A resident of Great Bend
for two and half years coming from Weslaco, Texas and Dodge City, he was a
Lt. Col. in the Army National Guard retiring in 1971, and a assistant
manager for the High Plains Journal in Dodge City retiring in 1985.
Hickerson was a member of Community Christian Church in Great Bend. He was a
U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include one son, Galen Hickerson of Phillipsburg, Mo.; two
daughters, Gwenna Harms of Great Bend, and Gina German of Mayfield; and six
grandchildren. he was preceded in death by four sisters.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great
Bend, with Leon Weece and Wilbur Johnson officiating. Burial will be at
Hillcrest Memorial Park in Great Bend. Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. today
at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Golden Belt Home Health and
Hospice in care of the funeral home.

Bessie M. Johnson 1910-2001
WICHITA - Bessie M. Johnson, 91, died Dec. 13 at Meadowlark Adult Care Home
in Wichita. She was born Feb. 25, 1910 at Greencastle, Mo., the daughter of
Joseph Franklin and Clara Ellen Snyder Graham. She married
Cecil Johnson
May, 6, 1931 at Larned. He died July 16, 1996. A resident of Wichita coming
from La Crosse, she was homemaker.
Mrs. Johnson attended the United Methodist Church in La Crosse, and was a
member of the First Christian Church.
Survivors include two daughters, JoAnn Mathews of Wichita, and Ida Mae
'Mazie' Long of Leawood; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Graham; three
half-brothers, Gail Herrell, Ernest Herrell, and Mack Herrell; and two
sisters, Ina and Edith.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in La
Crosse, with the Rev. Marilyn Christmore officiating. Burial will be at La
Crosse City cemetery in La Crosse. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's
Association or donor's choice both in care of Janousek Funeral Home in La
Crosse.

Martin Paul Munz 1918-2001
HUDSON - Martin Paul Munz, 83, of Hudson, died Dec. 13 at the Pratt Regional
Living Center. He was born Nov. 1, 1918 in Hudson, the son of Julius and
Christine Herb Munz. A lifelong resident of Hudson, he graduated from Hudson
High School, served in the Army during World War II and worked as a
mechanic, machinist, and welder at the local repair shop. He was an active
member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Hudson, served on the city
council, Men's Community Club, Senior Citizens, and had been the Northeast
Stafford County Fire Chief.
On Dec. 24, 1954 he married
Myrl Eddingfield at Great Bend. She survives. He
is also survived by sons Michael James Munz of Topeka, Patrick Thomas Munz
and Mark Kahabka both of Wichita. One brother Carl Munz and his wife Ruby of
Wichita; two sisters Mina Munz of Wichita; and Rosa Ramsey and husband
Dorwin of Lindsburg; one sister-in-law Wilma Bennett of Wichita; seven
nephews; and nine nieces. He was preceded in death by three brothers,
William Munz, Fred Munz, and Robert Munz; two sisters, Dora Watkins and
Irene Orchard; and one nephew Stanley Watkins.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be announced at a later
date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Southwind Hospice in
Pratt. Great Bend Family Mortuary and Crematory is in charge of the
arrangements.

Mary K. Redetzke 1917-2001
CLAFLIN - Mary K. Redetzke, 84, died Dec. 14 at Hoisington Rehabilitation
Center in Hoisington. She was born April 30, 1917 in Barton County, the
daughter of Frank and Anna Hoffman Tinkel. A resident of Barton County, she
was retired from the USD 354 Claflin school lunch program.
She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Altar
Society, and Daughters of Isabella all of Claflin.
Survivors include; one brother, Albert Tinkel of Claflin; three sisters,
Elizabeth Zorn of Claflin, Ann Urban of Hoisington, and Bernice Zorn of
Smith Center. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Tony Tinkel and
Frank Tinkel Jr.; and one sister, Regina Birzer.
A vigil service was held on Saturday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in
Hoisington. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at the church with the Rev.
David Flagor officiating. Burial will be at Claflin cemetery in Claflin.
Friends can call from 10 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the church or Daughters of Isabella both in care
of the funeral home.

Clara Lucille Sweetman 1922-2001
Clara Lucille Sweetman, 78, of Great Bend died Dec. 14 at Central Kansas
Medical Center St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born Dec. 21, 1922 at
Liebenthal, the daughter of Adam and Mary Gaube Kreutzer. She married
T.D.
Sweetman in 1959 at Great Bend. He died in January of 1985. A resident of
Great Bend, coming from Liebenthal, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Sweetman was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Bungalow F.C.E.,
and was a founding member of the Concorde Group all of Great Bend.
Survivors include one son, Gary Dino of Great Bend; one daughter, Tammy
Scheuerman of Great Bend; three brothers, John Kreutzer of Wichita, George
Kreutzer of Midland, Texas, and Joe Kreutzer of Lenexa; two sisters, Melvina
Francis of Great Bend, and Geneva Sweetman of Wichita; nine grandchildren;
and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Donna
J. Kern; two brothers, James Kreutzer and Tony Kreutzer; two sisters, Mary
McMullen and Frances Denning.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the church. Funeral will be at 2 p.m.
Tuesday at the church. Burial will be at Great Bend cemetery in Great Bend.
Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. today, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, and from
9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday all at Bryant-Christains Funeral Home in Great
Bend. Memorials are suggested to the Great Bend Humane Society in care of

Edna Mary Schartz 1905-2001
GREAT BEND - Edna Mary Schartz, 96, of Topeka died Dec. 15 at Midland
Hospice Center in Topeka. She was born March 3, 1905 at Seward, the daughter
of Matthew Franklin and Gertrude Keenan Rickert. She married
Tony N. Schartz
Sept. 7, 1927 in Seward. He died April 9, 1969. A resident of Topeka coming
from Great Bend and Ellinwood, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Schartz was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, St. Rose
Altar Society and the League of Women's Voters all of Great Bend. She served
as democratic precinct committee woman, and served as a clerk in the House
of Representatives during the Legislative sessions from 1957-1967.
Survivors include two sons; Wade Schartz and Thon Schartz both of Great
Bend; two daughters, Toni Wellshear of Topeka, and Lael Finch of Overland
Park; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and five
great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Gary
Schartz; one daughter, Zita Schartz; four brothers, John Rickert, Walter
Rickert, Robert Rickert, and Emmett Rickert; four sisters, Vina Guesnier,
Ellen Tubbs, Evelyn Simmons, and Nellie Rickert; and two grandchildren.
Altar Society Rosary will be at 4 p.m., followed by a vigil service at 7
p.m. Monday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m.
Tuesday at the church with the Revs. Angel Dy and Rene Guesnier officiating.
Burial will be at Great Bend cemetery in Great Bend. Friends may call from
Noon until 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to
Tony and Edna Schartz Scholarship Fund at Barton County Community College or

Lillian Anna Draney 1933-2001
Lillian Anna Draney, 68, of Great Bend, died Dec. 11 at her home. She was
born Dec. 1, 1933, in Rush County, the daughter of Christian and Bertha Kuhn
Randa. She married
Marion Ohnmacht. He died in November 1957. She married
William Edwin Draney July 30, 1960, in La Crosse. He died Jan. 4, 1986. A
resident of Great Bend since 1960, coming from La Crosse, she was a
homemaker and operated Red Barn Mini Storage.
Mrs. Draney was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend.
Survivors include three sons, Francis Ohnmacht and Steve Ohnmacht, both of
Great Bend, and Bill Draney of Olathe; one stepson, Terry Draney of Joplin,
Mo.; and six grandchildren.
Altar Society rosary will be at 3 p.m. Sunday and a vigil service will be at
7 p.m. Sunday, both at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend. Funeral
will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Jun Mangulabnan
officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from
noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 1-9 p.m. Sunday, all at the funeral home.

Vera Jane Frick 1918-2001
ANDOVER - Vera Jane Frick, 83, died Dec. 12 at Andover Health Care Center in
Andover. She was born Nov. 12, 1918, in Centerview, the daughter of Clarence
Eugene and Sarah Ellen Shrauner Block. She was a 1940 graduate of Fort Hays
University. She married
Seth Frick June 7, 1941, in Dodge City. He died
Sept. 13, 1979. A resident of Andover, coming from Bazine, she was a school
teacher for 32 years and a farm wife.
Mrs. Frick was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church in Bazine.
Survivors include two sisters, Wynona Livengood of San Jose, Calif., and
LaVona Priest of Kinsley. She was preceded in death by one sister, Vivian
Livengood.
Funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Ed Jumper
officiating. There is no visitation listed. Memorials are suggested to Hays
Seventh Day Adventist School or the donor's choice, both in care of Janousek
Funeral Home in La Crosse.
