Theola Maude Lamb 1899-2001
Theola Maude Lamb, 101, of Great Bend, died Dec. 17 at Integrated Health
Services of Great Bend. She was born Dec. 21, 1899, in Ozark County, Mo.,
the daughter of George Calvin and Edith Melinda Bruton Wells. She married
Loy B. Lamb Aug. 12, 1924, in Topeka. He died May 13, 1976. A resident of
Great Bend since 1977, coming from Scottsdale, Ariz., she was a retired
school teacher, having taught at a rural school in Morris County.
Mrs. Lamb was a member of First United Methodist Church in Great Bend.
Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth Melvin of Scottsdale and Eulalia
Weber of Great Bend. She was preceded in death by one brother, Walter D.
Wells; and three sisters, Ida Goggin, Georgia Harris and Rosetta Mae Shawgo.
Graveside service will be at noon Thursday at Dunlap cemetery in Dunlap.
There is no visitation. Memorials are suggested to Dunlap Methodist Church,
in care of Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend.

James Richard 'Dick' Murphy 1928-2001
James Richard "Dick" Murphy, 73, of Great Bend, died Dec. 14 at Central
Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born Feb. 24,
1928, in St. Patrick, Mo., the son of James William and Alma Josephine Riney
Murphy. He was a resident of Great Bend since 1929, coming from St. Patrick.
Murphy was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and R.E.A.C.H.
program, both in Great Bend, and Jaycees Cerebral Palsy Camp in Augusta.
Survivors include two brothers, Michael F. Murphy and Joseph A. Murphy, both
of Great Bend; four sisters, Janice L. Sis of Bryan, Texas, Joyce M. Tooley
of Liberal, Barbara Bernard of Lincoln and Rita R. Buchanan of Council
Grove.
Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home
in Great Bend. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church, with the
Revs. Angel Dy and Michael Sis officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend
Cemetery. Friends may call from 3-9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Thursday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Jaycees
Cerebral Palsy Camp, in care of the funeral home.

Bertha I. Hanken 1916-2001
LARNED - Bertha I. Hanken, 85, died Dec. 14 at Cherry Village Nursing Home
in Great Bend. She was born Sept. 1, 1916, in Rush County, the daughter of
Conrad and Rosalina Neece Tammen. She married Alvin H. Hanken Nov. 25, 1937,
in Albert. He died March 6, 1993. A lifelong resident of Larned, she was a
homemaker.
Mrs. Hanken was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Larned.
Survivors include one son, Don Hanken of Larned; one daughter, Deanne
Weathers of Great Bend; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Fred Tammen, Walter Tammen and
an infant brother; and four sisters, Hilda Peterson, Ida Nagel, Etta Estes
and Frieda Tammen.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. John
Drosendahl officiating. Burial will be at Peace Lutheran cemetery in Albert.
Friends may call until 8 tonight at Beckwith Mortuary in Larned. Memorials
are suggested to the church or Larned Emergency Medical Service, both in
care of the mortuary.

Marvin Lee 'Mike' Maier 1935-2001
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Marvin Lee "Mike" Maier, 66, died Dec. 7 at
Indianapolis Veterans of Foreign Wars Headquarters, where he served as
quartermaster. He was born Feb. 18, 1935, in Hodgeman County, the son of
John and Pauline Popp Maier. He was a graduate of Ness City High School and
attended Garden City Community College. He married Marian R. Steinbauer
April 18, 1956, in Nuremberg, Germany. A resident of Indianapolis, coming
from Ness City, he was retired from the U.S. Army and worked as an input
services manager for the American Legion National Headquarters in
Indianapolis before retiring in 1997.
Maier was a member of VFW and American Legion, both of Indianapolis. He was
a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Jerry D. Maier of
Indianapolis and John C. Maier of Rocklin, Calif.; one stepdaughter, Ingred
Stevens of Indianapolis; one brother, Julius Maier of Ness City; two
sisters, Edna Wegele of Ness City and Nadine Oppliger of Wichita; and five
grandchildren.
Military memorial service was held Dec. 10 at Flanner-Buchanan Lawrence
Mortuary in Indianapolis, with the Rev. Don Marin officiating. Cremation has
taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Ness City.
Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association or American Lung
Association, both in care of the mortuary.

Theodore N. 'Ted' Daniels 1936-2001
Theodore N. "Ted" Daniels, 65,of Great Bend, died Dec. 15 at
Columbia Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He
was born June 2, 1936, in Plainville, the son of Elmer N. and Atha Lee
Thomas Daniels. He married Eleanor Guliford Feb. 28, 1960, in Great Bend. A
resident of Great Bend, he worked as a service manager for a tire company.
Daniels was a member of Cornerstone Fellowship Church and Cheyenne
Sportsman's Club, both of Great Bend. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the
Korean War.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Theodore Patrick Daniels
and Travis Elon Daniels, both of Great Bend, and Jordan Lazelle Daniels of
the home; three daughters, Sharita Jo Farmer of Topeka, Leslie Janine Sowell
and Cassandra Kay Quick, both of Grandview, Mo.; two brothers, Floyd Alvin
Daniels of Oakland, Calif., and Robert Lee Daniels of Great Bend; two
sisters, Della Ann Taylor of San Diego, Calif., and Anna Mae Daniels of
Toledo, Ohio; and 17 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two
brothers, William Thomas Daniels and Kenneth Elmer Daniels; and two sisters,
Kathleen Garrett and Josephine Garrett.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home Chapel
in Great Bend, with the Rev. Curtis Reinhardt officiating. Burial will be at
Hillcrest Memorial Park in Great Bend. Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m.
Tuesday, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until service time
Thursday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Renal Care
Center, in care of the funeral home.

Mollie E. Boger 1908-2001
LYONS - Mollie E. Boger, 93, died Dec. 15 at Lyons Good Samaritan Center in
Lyons. She was born Jan. 15, 1908, in Hoisington, the daughter of Fred and
Mollie Becker Nuss. She was a graduate of Hoisington High School and
attended Fort Hays State University. She married Ray Boger Sept. 4, 1929, in
Hoisington. He died Oct. 26, 1994. A resident of Lyons since 1973, coming
from Barton County, she was a former country school teacher in Barton County
and worked as a receptionist and assistant to Dr. Herald in Ellinwood,
assistant Ellinwood city clerk and housemother at Institute of Logopedics.
Mrs. Boger was a member of Lutheran Church in Lyons.
Survivors include one daughter, Donna J. Kilby of Wichita; three sisters,
Maxine Stas of Scottsdale, Ariz., Darlene Kirchoff of Mesa, Ariz., and
Dorothy Bartel of Peoria, Ill.; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by one brother, Walter Nuss; and one sister, Helen Walker.
Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Fairview Township Cemetery
in Galatia, with the Rev. Allen J. Woelzlein officiating. Friends may call
from 2-5 p.m. Tuesday at Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons. The casket will be
closed during the service and visitation. Memorials are suggested to Lyons
Good Samaritan Center, in care of the funeral home.

Peggy M. Claussen 1942-2001
RUSSELL - Peggy M. Claussen, 59, died Dec. 15 in an accident in Ellsworth.
She was born April 5, 1942, in Wichita, the daughter of Nathan and Esther
Marie Strouse Fuller. She was a graduate of Hoisington High School. She
married Charles M. Claussen Aug. 21, 1972, in Russell. He died in the same
accident. A resident of Russell, coming from Hoisington, she was a
homemaker.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan Wolfe of Hays and Tammy Mitchell of
Russell; and four grandchildren.
Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Hillcrest cemetery in Great
Bend, with the Rev. Glenn Tombaugh officiating. Friends may call from 3-9
p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, all at Pohlman's Mortuary in
Russell. The casket will be closed during service and visitation. Memorials
are suggested to American Cancer Society, in care of the mortuary.

Charles M. Claussen 1938-2001
RUSSELL - Charles M. Claussen, 63, died Dec. 15 in an accident in Ellsworth.
He was born March 7, 1938, in Russell, the son of Martin and Agnes Salber
Claussen. He married Peggy Maxine Fuller Aug. 21, 1972, in Russell. She died
in the same accident. A resident of Russell, coming from Colorado, he worked
as an auto mechanic.
Claussen was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan Wolfe of Hays and Tammy Mitchell of
Russell; two brothers, Gail Claussen of Yoder, Colo., and Gerald Claussen of
Kansas City; and four grandchildren.
Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Hillcrest cemetery in Great
Bend, with the Rev. Glenn Tombaugh officiating. Friends may call from 3-9
p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, all at Pohlman's Mortuary in
Russell. The casket will be closed during service and visitation. Memorials
are suggested to Foundation for the Visually Impaired, in care of the
mortuary.

Budd Ray Clayton 1959-2001
ST. JOHN - Budd Ray Clayton, 42, died Dec. 15 seven miles west of Hillsboro.
He was born Aug. 23, 1959, in Cheyenne, Wyo., the son of Barbara J. Helmick.
A resident of Hutchinson, he was a cook for Applewood Restaurant in
Hutchinson.
Clayton was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Survivors include his mother of St. John; one brother, John M. Nogo of
Chicago, Ill.; two sisters, Kim Sims of Stafford and Danielle Gevara of
Larned; and his grandmother, Isabell Hamit of Stafford.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Minnis Chapel in St. John with the
Rev. Guy Elliott officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Park cemetery in
St. John. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the family, in care of the funeral chapel.

Frank Bogner 1910-2001
MEDICINE LODGE - Frank Bogner, 91, died Dec. 13 at Wichita. He was born
Sept. 1, 1910 at Mount Hope, the son of John and Rosalia Grassel Bogner. He
married Lucy Thimmesch Oct. 2, 1940 at Liebenthal. She died Sept. 9, 1994. A
resident of Medicine Lodge for 40 years coming from Sharon, he was owner,
and operator for Sharon Supply.
Bogner was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sharon, Holy Rosary
Catholic Church in Medicine Lodge, and Knights of Columbus of Sharon.
Survivors include three sons, John Bogner of Odin, Linus Bogner of Medicine
Lodge, and Bill Bogner of Kiowa; one daughter, Mary Ann Baird of Alameda,
Calif.; four brothers, John Bogner of Colwich, Andrew Bogner of Wichita, Leo
Bogner of Parsons, and Matthew Bogner of Haven; one sister, Veronica Wetta
of Mount Hope; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Vigil service will be at 2 p.m. today at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in
Medicine Lodge. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Rosary Catholic
Church, with the Rev. John Strasser officiating. Burial will be at Highland
Cemetery in Medicine Lodge. Memorials are suggested to the Holy Rosary
Catholic Church or St. Boniface Catholic Church both in care of the funeral
home. Larrison-Forsyth Funeral Home in Medicine Lodge are in charge of the
funeral arrangements.
