Marcile E. Converse 1915-2001
Marcile E. Converse, 86, of Great Bend, died Dec. 18 at Central Kansas
Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born Aug. 19, 1915,
in Lewis, the daughter of Roy M. and Inez I. Kerns Ray. She married Harvey
E. Converse Nov. 7, 1936, in Great Bend. A lifelong resident of Great Bend,
she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Converse was a member of First United Methodist Church, Holl-Nething
Church Circle and FS Chapter of PEO, all of Great Bend.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two daughters, Jean Anne
Armstrong of Chanute and Patricia Sue Kuster of Greece, N.Y.; one sister,
Wilma Monahan of Healsburg, Calif.; and two grandchildren. She was preceded
in death by one brother, Jack Ray.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home
Chapel, with the Rev. Jana Baxter officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend
Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m.
until service time Saturday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are
suggested to First United Methodist Church Youth Ministries, in care of the
funeral home.

Cecilia E. Wapelhorst 1913-2001
Cecilia E. Wapelhorst, 88, of Great Bend, died Dec. 18 at Central Kansas
Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born July 18, 1913,
in Willowdale, the daughter of John and Rosena Leitschuck Weber. She married
Raymond B. Wapelhorst April 20, 1937, in Willowdale. He died July 12, 1974.
A resident of Great Bend since 1948, coming from Colwich, she was a
homemaker.
Mrs. Wapelhorst was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and Altar
Society, both in Great Bend.
Survivors include three sons, Paul J. Wapelhorst, Dan J. Wapelhorst and
David J. Wapelhorst, all of Great Bend; four daughters, Rosemary Phillips
and Doris Karst, both of Great Bend, Clara Evans of Newton and Teresa
Connelley of Wichita; one brother, John Weber of Lyons; one sister, Margaret
Gregg of Lyons; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by seven brothers, Nick Weber, Frank Weber, Joe Weber,
Lawrence Weber, Ollie Weber, George Weber and Tony Weber; and two sisters,
Ann Gaider and Agnes Pohl.
Altar Society Rosary will be at 4 today at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in
Great Bend. Vigil service will be at 8 tonight at the church. Funeral will
be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Angel Dy officiating.
Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call until 6 tonight and
from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, both at the funeral home and from 7 tonight at
the church. Memorials are suggested to the church or Holy Family School
Endowment Fund, both in care of the funeral home.

Joseph F. "Yup" Heimerman 1920-2001
HUTCHINSON - Joseph F. "Yup" Heimerman, 81, died Dec. 18 at his home in
Hutchinson. He was born March 9, 1920, in Andale, the son of Joseph and Cora
Geiger Heimerman. He married Geraldine Harbert Nov. 22, 1949. She died Dec.
25, 1952. He married Helen Goetz Lacy Dec. 31, 1957, in Pratt. She died Nov.
9, 2001. A resident of Hutchison for 33 years, coming from St. Leo, he was
owner of Heimerman Grocery in St. Leo, a farmer and retired from Doskocil
Food Service in 1982.
Heimerman was a member of St. Teresa's Catholic Church, honorary member of
Knights of Columbus Council 612, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 982 and American
Legion Lysle Rishel Post 68, all in Hutchinson. He was a U.S. Army veteran
of World War II.
Survivors include three sons, Ron Lacy of Lakewood, Colo., Joe Heimerman Jr.
of Plevna and Jim Heimerman of Hutchinson; six daughters, Donna Hines and
Eileen DeBoer, both of Wichita, Shirley Raney of Cunningham, Denise McCue
and Pam Heimerman, both of Hutchinson and Teresa Walls of Tempe, Ariz.; one
sister, Frances Hageman of Kingman; 11 grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert
Heimerman, Walter Heimerman and Roman Heimerman; and two sisters, Margaret
Mertens and Rose Kampling.
Parish Rosary followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be at 7 p.m.
Friday, both at Elliott Mortuary in Hutchinson. Funeral will be at 10 a.m.
Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Richard F. Stuchlik officiating.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Leo cemetery in St. Leo,
with the Rev. John P. Miller officiating and Fort Riley Honor Guard
performing military graveside honors. Friends may call until 9 tonight and
from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, all at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested
to the church, in care of the mortuary.

Ruth Maxine Ritchie 1913-2001
PAWNEE ROCK - Ruth Maxine Ritchie, 88, died Dec. 18 at Central Kansas
Medical Center, St. Joseph Campus, Long Term Care in Larned. She was born
Oct. 4, 1913, in Versailles, Mo., the daughter of William H. and Minnie
Rachel Swearingen Stafford. She married Ora Jackson Ritchie Sept. 30, 1933,
in Versailles. He died Jan. 12, 1985. A longtime resident of Pawnee Rock,
she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Ritchie was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include seven sons, James F. Ritchie of Pawnee Rock, Harold N.
Ritchie of Wilmington, N.C., Stanley E. Ritchie of New Bern, N.C., William
D. Ritchie of Castle Hayne, N.C., Dennis E. Ritchie of Durham, N.C., Gary D.
Ritchie of Fort Worth, Texas, and Virgil L. Ritchie of Lewis; three
daughters, Christenia M. Page of Grand Junction, Colo., Sondra A. Seeley of
Wichita and Jeanne M. Vratil of Larned; two brothers, John J. Stafford of
Versailles, and Virgil J. Stafford of Prineville, Ore.; 29 grandchildren; 38
great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by one son, Ora J. Ritchie Jr.; seven brothers, Jesse Stafford, Lester
Stafford, William Stafford, Elic Stafford, George Stafford, Noah Stafford
and Paul Stafford; three sisters, Hazel Schmitz, Ethel Stafford and her
twin, Martha Stafford.
Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Morell Funeral Home in Larned, with the
Rev. Dan Lundgren officiating. Burial will be at Pawnee Rock Cemetery.
Friends may call until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday,
all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Fund, in
care of the funeral home.

Sadie Rae Hunter Simmons 1932-2001
FORT SCOTT - Sadie Rae Hunter Simmons, 69, died Dec. 17 at Overland Park
Regional Medical Center in Shawnee Mission. She was born April 1, 1932, in
Claflin, the daughter of Russell and Sadie Hunt Hunter. She married Lester
Morris in July 1953. He died in 1965. She married James Simmons. He also
preceded her in death. A resident of Fort Scott, coming from Walnut,
Cherryvale and Claflin, she worked as a cook in various nursing homes.
Survivors include one son, Harold Morris of Austin, Texas; one daughter,
Rebecca Smith of Fort Smith, Ark.; one brother, Ralph Cunningham of Texas;
four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by one son, Lester Morris; and one brother, Samuel Hunter.
Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Claflin City Cemetery, with
the Rev. Janet Myers officiating. There is no visitation. Memorials are
suggested to American Cancer Society, in care of Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel
in Fort Scott.

Carl J. Urban 1931-2001
Carl J. Urban, 70, of Great Bend, died Dec. 16 at Central Kansas Medical
Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born Aug. 14, 1931, in
Loretta, the son of Alois G. and Anna Schlitter Urban. He married Bernadette
Suppes Oct. 17, 1953. A resident of Great Bend, he was a retired branch
manager of Diesel Equipment Company.
Urban was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, life member of Veterans
of Foreign Wars Post 3111 and past member of Elks Lodge, all of Great Bend.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Randall Urban of Louisburg;
one daughter, Cynthia Prescott of Great Bend; one brother, Paul Urban of
Victoria; one sister, Esther Urban of La Crosse; and four grandchildren. He
was preceded in death by three brothers, George Urban, Leonard Urban and
Eugene Urban; and one granddaughter, Lisa Prescott.
Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Warren
Stecklein officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may
call until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, all at the funeral
home. Memorials are suggested to the church or Holy Family School Endowment
Fund, both in care of the funeral home.

Marvin L. Popp 1930-2001
HAYS - Marvin L. Popp, 71, died Dec. 14 at Hays Medical Center in Hays. He
was born March 14, 1930, in Hoisington, the son of Solomon and Mollie Scheck
Popp. He was a 1948 graduate of Hoisington High School. He married Era Lee
Carter. A resident of Hays, coming from Great Bend and Hoisington, he worked
for Halliburton Services, serving around the state, nation and world until
his retirement in 1986.
Popp was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Hoisington, where he was
baptized, confirmed and married, served on the church council and worship
committee at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hays, life member of Disabled
American Veterans, life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American
Legion, all of Hays. He was a U.S. Army veteran, Purple Heart recipient and
Bronze Star recipient, all of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three daughters, Tanya Greeve of
Mayetta, Rhonda Brown of Aurora, Colo., and Kimberly Popp of Phoenix, Ariz.;
three brothers, Richard Popp of Midland, Texas, Vern Popp of St. Joseph,
Mo., and Bill Popp of Hoisington; two sisters, Alice Foster of Great Bend
and Velma Boepple of Weatherford, Okla.; six grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
Funeral was Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. James Strasen
officiating. Burial was at Schoenfield cemetery south of Russell. Memorials
are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church, in care of Hays Memorial Chapel
Funeral Home in Hays.

Erma Lee Inez Church 1914-2001
NASHOBA, Okla. - Erma Lee Inez Church, 87, died Dec. 14 in Nashoba. She was
born June 10, 1914, in Milano, Texas, the daughter of Darce and Texanna
Cannaday. A resident of Nashoba, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Church was a member of the Holiness faith.
Survivors include one stepson, Leonard Fennell of Carlsbad, N.M.; three
daughters, Teddy Williamson of Hoisington, Ann Packard of Manford, Okla.,
and Nell Bruce of Nashoba; one stepdaughter, Ruby Allen of Ada, Okla.; 10
grandchildren; numerous stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; and
two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son; eight
stepsons; and eight stepdaughters.
Graveside service was Monday at Nolia cemetery in Nashoba, with the Rev.
Gene Reeves officiating. There are no memorials suggested. Clayton Funeral
Home in Clayton Okla., was in change of the funeral arrangements.

Guy R. Beer 1916-2001
LARNED - Guy R. Beer, 85, died Dec. 17 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St.
Joseph Campus in Larned. He was born Oct. 14, 1916, in Pawnee County, the
son of Chester R. and Maggie Z. Dykeman. He married Helen Clair Crow May 31,
1943, in Miami, Fla. A lifelong resident of Pawnee County, he was both a
dairy farmer and farmer.
Beer was a member of United Methodist Church, 50-year member of Veterans of
Foreign Wars and American Legion, all of Larned, American Jersey Cattle Club
and Kansas State Jersey Cattle Club. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War
II.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Dr. Raul R. Beer of Denver
Colo.; three daughters, Janet Grubbs of Tijeras, N.M., Pamela Propp of
Sterling, Colo., and Deborah Quakenbush of Aurora, Colo.; two brothers,
Charles W. Beer of San Mateo, Calif., and Dean Beer of Middletown, Calif.;
and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Wayne
Beer; and one sister, Lois Beer.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned,
with the Rev. Charles Grant officiating. Burial will be at Larned Cemetery.
Friends may call until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. until service time
Wednesday, all at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to United Methodist
Church Scholarship Fund or Parkinson's Foundation, both in care of the
mortuary.
