Robert J. "Bob Popeye" Patterson 1929-2001
CHASE - Robert J. "Bob Popeye" Patterson, 72, died Dec. 24 at Hutchinson
Hospital in Hutchinson. He was born May 28, 1929, in Potwin, the son of Ivor
and Pearl Agnes Wesfall Patterson. He married
Billie JoAnne Lane Feb. 21,
1958, in Miami, Okla. A longtime resident of Chase, he worked as a salvage
yard owner and former oil field worker.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Robert Patterson Jr. of
Zenith and Billy Bob Patterson of Chase; two daughters, Robin Jesseph and
Jessica Patterson, both of Chase; one brother, Joe Patterson of Raymond; two
sisters, Ann McIntyre of Sterling and Maxine Smith of Grandview, Ohio; eight
grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by
two brothers, Ivor Patterson and Richard Patterson; and one grandson, Bobby
Joe Patterson.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons, with the
Rev. Johnnie Hardie officiating. Burial will be at Raymond Hilltop Cemetery
in Raymond. Friends may call from 1-5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association or American Diabetes
Association, both in care of the funeral home.

Mabel E. Burton 1916-2001
LYONS - Mabel E. Burton, 85, died Dec. 25 in Kingman. She was born May 5,
1916, in Lyons, the daughter of Hiram and Kate Tobias Cherpitel. She married
Selz Burton Dec. 25, 1938, in Oklahoma. He died in 1972. A resident of Lyons
since 1973, coming from Saratoga, Wyo., she was a homemaker.
Survivors include one brother, Wray Cherpitel of Lyons; and one sister, Mary
Harrison of Amarillo, Texas. She was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth
Burroughs.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons. Burial
will be at Lyons Municipal cemetery in Lyons. Friends may call from 3-6 p.m.
Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to American Heart
Association, in care of the funeral home.

Rose Koehler 1916-2001
KINGMAN - Rose Koehler, 85, died Dec. 26 at Attica Longterm Care Center in
Attica. She was born Dec. 14, 1916, in Gibbon, Okla., the daughter of Thomas
and Annie Gallagher Kenny. She married
Conrad Koehler Sr. Jan. 19, 1937, in
Manchester, Okla. He died September, 1962. A resident of Kingman since 1956,
she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Koehler was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Daughters of
Isabella and Altar Society, all of Kingman.
Survivors include four sons, Raymond Koehler of Bucklin, Roger Koehler of
McPherson, Conrad Koehler Jr. of Great Bend and Tim Koehler of Kingman;
three daughters, Karen Tatro of Hutchinson, Linda Batchman of Bushton and
Kathy Dark of Attica; three brothers, Ed Koehler of Medford, Okla., Joe
Koehler of Pueblo, Colo., and Gerry Koehler of Davis, Calif.; one sister,
Irene Cummings of Enid, Okla.; 34 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Florence Walsh; four brothers,
Tom Koehler, John Koehler, Bernard Koehler and Phillip Koehler; and two
sisters, Mary Peterson and Katherine Koehler.
Parish and Daughters of Isabella rosaries will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at
Livingston Funeral Home in Kingman. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at
the church, with the Rev. Joseph Tatro officiating. Burial will be at Walnut
Hill Cemetery. Friends may call after noon on Friday, at the funeral home.

Alta May Nulton 1918-2001
HAYS - Alta May Nulton, 83, died Dec. 24 at St. John's of Hays Nursing Home.
She was born May 11, 1918, in Hays, the daughter of Charles and Ruby
Bourdette Nulton. She was a 1937 graduate of Hays High School. A resident of
Hays, she worked as a secretary/bookkeeper for USD 489 for 48 years, before
retiring and being inducted into the USD 489 Hall of Fame.
She was a member of Church of the Nazarene and Christian Women's Club, both
of Hays.
Survivors include one brother, Tom Nulton of Hoisington; and two sisters,
Audrey LaRue of Hays and Norma Thoman of Colorado Springs, Colo. She was
preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Nulton and Charles Nulton Jr.; and
two sisters, Bertha Merkel and Ruby Day.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Will Haworth
officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Allen cemetery in Hays. Friends may call
from 4-6 p.m. today at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hays and from
1:30 p.m. until service time Friday at the church. Memorials are suggested

Lawrence 'Larry' Elton Hendrickson 1934-2001
HANSTON - Lawrence "Larry" Elton Hendrickson, 67, died Dec. 22 at his home
in Hanston. He was born Nov. 2, 1934, in rural Hodgeman County, the son of
Arthur and Mamie Bamberger Hendrickson. He married
Joann Law Sept. 30,
1952, in Hanston. She died June 6, 1998. A lifetime resident of Hanston, he
was a custom harvester.
Hendrickson attended First Baptist Church in Hanston.
Survivors include two sons, Rick Hendrickson of Hays and Kelly Hendrickson
of Hanston; six daughters, Rhonda Hendrickson and Roxann Fuchs, both of
Hanston, Shawn Hoff of Scranton, Tonya Brakhage of Kinsley, Gayle Worthey
of Dodge City and Brenda Theis of Kansas City, Mo.; one brother, Don
Hendrickson of Garden City; one sister, Madonna Cossman of Hanston; 15
grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Gary Winget
officiating. Burial will be at Fairmount cemetery in Jetmore. Friends may

HUDSON -Memorial services for Martin Paul Munz, 83, will be at 2 p.m.

Leota Elizabeth Phemister 1916-2001
LARNED - Leota Elizabeth Phemister, 84, died Dec. 24 at her home in Larned.
She was born Dec. 31, 1916, in rural Carbondale, Ill., the daughter of
Dallas and Ida Hendrickson Chamness. She married
Ardell Phemister Aug. 14,
1936. He died Oct. 30, 1996. A resident of Larned since 1995, coming from
Los Angeles, Calif., she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Phemister belonged to the Baptist faith and was active in the church
choir.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Phemister of Larned and William
Phemister of Wheaton, Ill.; one sister, Golda Matthews of DuQuoin, Ill.;
one granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by three brothers and five sisters.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Carterville City cemetery of
Carterville, Ill. Friends may call until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Morell Funeral
Home in Larned. Memorials are suggested to Golden Belt Hospice, in care of
the funeral home.

Roberta M. Knoefler 1925-2001
JETMORE - Roberta M. Knoefler, 76, died Dec. 24 in Dodge City. She was born
Nov. 7, 1925, in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Bertrand J. and Dorothy
Bohnenkamp Boyle. She married
Anthony Thomas Remiszewski in May, 1946, at
New Haven, Conn. He died Jan. 9, 1969. She then married
Leo Knoefler July
26, 1980, in Jetmore. He died Aug. 29, 1991. A longtime resident of
Jetmore, she was a bookkeeper and also worked at Dodge City Public Library.
Mrs. Knoefler was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Community
Minister, Jetmore Library Board, Happy Hour Club and Hodgeman County board
member of American Cancer Society, all of Jetmore.
Survivors include one son, Tom Remiszewski of Norwalk, Conn.; her mother of
Trumbull, Conn.; three brothers, David Boyle of Dodge City, Bert Boyle of
Wallingford, Conn., and Bill Boyle of Hamden, Conn.; and two sisters, Ruth
Black of Jetmore and Barbara Lawson of Huntington, Conn.
Vigil will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church. Funeral Mass will be at
10:30 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Henry Hildebrandt
officiating. Burial will be at Fairmount cemetery in Jetmore. Friends may
call until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at Beckwith Funeral

Hubert B. Steinert 1916-2001
Hubert B. Steinert, 85 of Great Bend, died Dec. 25 at Via Christi Regional
Medical Center, St. Francis Campus in Wichita. He was born Sept. 6, 1916,
in Russell County, the son of Emanuel and Lydia Wittman Steinert. He
married Dorothy H. McGinness July 28, 1946, at Aulne. A resident of Great
Bend, he was in furniture and appliance sales and service, retiring from
Andy's TV and Appliance in Great Bend.
Steinert was a member of First United Methodist Church, American Legion
Post 3111 and Noon Lions Club, all of Great Bend. He was a Army Air Corps
veteran, serving as staff sergeant in World War II.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Nancy Lee Carroll of
Great Bend and Mary Jane Sargent of Jacksonville, Fla.; one brother, Leo
Steinert of Great Bend; one stepsister of California; two grandchildren;
and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one brother, Leland
Steinert; and one stepbrother, Louis Steinert.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Dr. Kevin
Baxter officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Great
Bend. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until
noon Friday, all at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. Memorials are

Francis A. Rupp 1927-2001
HAYS - Francis A. Rupp, 73, died Dec. 23 at Hays Medical Center in Hays. He
was born Dec. 30, 1927, in rural Hays, the son of Andrew and Adeline Rupp
Rupp. He attended St. Joseph's Military Academy in Hays. He married
Rose
Ann Zimmerman on Aug. 16, 1948. A resident of Hays, he was a lifelong
farmer and stockman.
Rupp was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Hays.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Harland Rupp of
Hoisington, Gary Rupp of Tribune and Patrick Rupp of Ulysses; one daughter,
Marie Stramel of Hays; three brothers, Michael M. Rupp, Henry P. "Hank"
Rupp and Marvin J. Rupp, all of Hays; one sister, Blanche Von Lintel of
Hays; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in
death by one infant brother, Harlow Rupp.
Parish vigil will be at 8 tonight at Brock's North Hill Chapel in Hays.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the church with the Revs.
