Donald Adams
Donald Adams, 80, Winfield, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2007, at William Newton Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19, 2007, at the First Church of the Nazarene in Winfield. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. today. The family will greet friends 6-7:30 p.m. Born May 15, 1926, in Sleeper, Mo., he was the son of William and Stella Mae (Keeney) Adams. He was raised and received his education in Sleeper, Mo. He entered the United States Army in 1950, where he served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1952. He retired from Beech Aircraft where he worked in the heat treat department. Donald was a lifetime member of the Shelty Post Legion and was also a member of the Nazarene Church. Survivors include his son, J.C. Adams, Mobile, Ala.; daughters, Edie Jacobs and husband, John Sumner, Arkansas City, and Lola Potucek and husband, David, Oxford; grandchildren, Shawn Richardson, Jaden Jacobs, Stephanie, Dustin and Brad Potucek; stepson, Gary Taylor and wife, Pam; stepdaughter, Pat Hooper; numerous great-grandchildren; a niece and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet "Vi" Adams and his 12 siblings.
Memorials have been established for the First Church of the Nazarene and for the William Newton Hospital Nurse's Scholarship Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Miles Funeral Service, Winfield.
F.M. "Gay" Brinson
F.M. "Gay" Brinson, 88, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19, 2007, in Sunny Lane Cemetery
in Del City, Okla. Friends may call at the funeral home until 5 p.m. today. Born May 19, 1918, she was a homemaker and waitress. Survivors include her sons, Don Swain, Midwest City, Bobby Swain, Moore, Okla., and Billy Winn; daughters, Claudia Ehlers, of Caldwell, and Betty Winn; sisters, Clara Geiger, Hydesville, Calif., and Babe Williams, of Fontana, Calif.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Betty R. Barton
Betty R. Barton, 74, Arkansas City, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007, at Medicaldoge North Post Acute Center, Arkansas City. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, 2007, at the Memorial Lawn Cemetery
Chapel. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until noon on Friday. Betty was born June 14, 1932, in Ottawa, Kan., and was raised by her adopted parents, Joseph and Ruth Conaway. She graduated from Fostoria, Kan., High School. In 1953 she married Harry Edward Barton Sr., in North Forfolk, Va. She lived in many places throughout the United States and moved to Arkansas City eight years ago. She was a member of the spencer Ralston VFW Post No. 1254 Ladis Auxilliary and the Red Hat Society. Survivors include one son, Harry "Eddie" Barton Jr. and his wife, Tammy, of Arkansas City; three daughters, Carol Doane, of Enid, Okla., Clara Jo Butler, of Okinawa, Japan, and Julie Ann Nunn, of Waycross, Ga.; one sister, Lucille Crawford, Donna, Texas; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Bill Krutz.

Betty J. Landes
Betty J. Landes, 63, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2007, at 3:23 p.m. at Freeman West Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007, in the chapel of Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City, Mo., with the Rev. Bob Easton officiating. She was born Feb. 10, 1943, in Hoosier, Kan., to Ben Batdorf and Vera Etta (Tousley) Batdorf. Survivors include her sisters, Margaret Karcher, of Webb City, Velma Stilley and husband, Al, of Baxter Springs, Kan., Rosalie Hain, Susie Kincaid, Vera Kay Batdorf, all of Arkansas City, and Alice Gail Batdorf, of Dexter; two stepdaughters, Vickie Moorhouse and Kim Hulsey; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and companion, Mike Greer. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, three children, and four sisters.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City, Mo.

Evelyn I. Deibel, 89, Arkansas City, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, at Medicalodge East.

Vena Mae Hyde
Vena Mae Hyde, 75, Oxford, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at Riverview Manor. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 2004, at the Oxford Christian Church. Interment will be in the White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Wichita. Born Sept. 25, 1928, in Wichita, she was the daughter of Orval and Nancy Campbell Haskins. She grauduated from Mulvane High School with the class of 1946. Survivors include her sons Gary of Oxford, and Russellof Rohnert Park, California; her brothers Wayne Haskins of Latham, Kansas, Ray Haskins of Wichita and Dale Haskins of Wichita; her sisters Mary Sanko and Mamie Haskins both of Oxford and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, and parents.
Memorials have been established with the Oxford Christian Church and Hospiece Care of Kansas. Contributions may be sent or left at the funeral home where friends may call on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Arrangements are with Oxford Funeral Service.
Evelyn Imogene Deibel
Evelyn Imogene Deibel, 89, of Arkansas City died Thursday, January 1, 2004 at the Medicalodge East of Arkansas City. Graveside funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 5, 2004 at the Mt. Hope Cemetery
with Brother Jess Kindred officiating. Born July 12, 1914 on farm at rural Ashton, Evelyn was the daughter of George and Margaret (Zaring) Beckelheimer. She was the oldest of six children. Evelyn graduated eighth grade from the Pigeon Roost School, seven miles west of Arkansas City. She attended Arkansas City High School. Evelyn attended Mount Hope Methodist Church for over fifty years. On June 26, 1940, Evelyn married Robert L. Jones at Pawhuska, Oklahoma. They resided on his farm until his death in 1943. She and her two daughters, with the help of her brother, remained on the farm until 1952 when she married Johnnie R. Deibel and they built a new house on his farm. She remained there until her daughters graduated from Braman High School. She then moved to Arkansas City in 1972. She later moved to Windsor Court in 1982. Evelyn helped care for the elderly and baby sat. She enjoyed making quilts and crocheting. While farming she raised registered Hereford cattle, registered Quarter Horses, and registered Belgian Show Horses. She showed these animals at fairs and rodeos. Evelyn is survived by her two daughters, Roberta Jones Flickner of Wichita and Dorothy Jones Wano of Tonkawa, OK; her brother, Donald Beckelheimer of Wichita; eight grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; an infant daughter, Patricia Deibel; three brothers, Dwight, George Thomas and Bobby Beckelheimer; and her sister, Margaret Tann. A memorial has been established with the American Arthritis Foundation.

Francis A. Glenn, Sr.
Francis A. Glenn, Sr., 84, Winfield, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, at his home. Memorial services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Private inurnment will be held at a later date. Born Aug. 10, 1919, in Hatfield, Mo., he was the son of Edgar and Bessie (Henson) Glenn. He was a self-employed mechanic and owned and operated Glenn's Repair until the time of his death. Survivors include his wife, Leona (Aronhalt) Glenn of the home; sons, Francis (Butch) Glenn, Jr., of Winfield and Jeff Glenn of Valley Center; daughters, Repha Buckman of Hope, Ark., and Cedella Glenn of St. Louis, Mo.; brother, Wilbur Glenn of Doris, Calif.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, four sisters and one great-grandchild.
A memorial has been established for Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements were under the direction of Miles Funeral Service, Winfield.
Uriel W. Brown
Uriel W. Brown, 80, Arkansas City, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at the Kansas Veteran's Home in Winfield. Cremation has been effected. Memorial services will be held later in the spring and will be announced at that time. Survivors include his wife, Mary; son, Robert F. "Bob" Brown of Laredo, Texas; daughter, Cheryl Jantz of Arkansas City; three grandchildren and several sisters.

Rachel E. Young
Rachel E. Young, 91, Winfield, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at Good Samaritan Village. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel in Winfield. Interment will be in the Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home until 8 p.m. today. Born in Denison, Texas, she was the daughter of Frank and Mary (Wire) Owens. She worked at the Red Brick Lodge and Darrah's Nursing Home in Winfield as a nurse's aide. She also worked at William Newton Memorial Hospital as a nurse's aide. Survivors include her sons, Eddie Young of Leander, Texas, Allen Young and LeRoy Young, both of Winfield and Bill Young of Cedar Park, Texas; daughters, Mary Slovacek of Booker, Texas and Linda Askins of Winfield; brother, Frank Owens of Oklahoma; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister and one grandchild.

Thomas Martin "Tom" Nuckols
Thomas Martin "Tom" Nuckols, 75, Arkansas City, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at his residence. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at the First United Methodist Church of Arkansas City. The Reverend Lance Carrithers will officiate. Burial will follow in the Parker Cemetery. Tom was born Jan. 11, 1928, in Ponca City, Okla., to Dr. Arthur S. and Hazel H. (Martin) Hyatt Nuckols. He was reared and educated in Ponca City. Tom graduated from the Kemper Military Academy of Booneville, Mo. He later attended the Oklahoma A&M University. Tom served in the United States Air Force from 1949 to 1952. He was stationed in Naknek, Alaska Territory and later Sacramento, Calif. While in Sacramento, Tom met and later married Martella Carr on Jan. 12, 1952. The couple lived in Sacramento, Ponca City, Okla., New Orleans, La., Dallas, Texas, and Sacramento again before moving to Arkansas City in 1963. Tom worked in the engineering department for the General Electric Jet Engine Facility at Strother Field for 10 years and later as a maintenance engineer for Conoco for 20 years before retiring in 1993. Tom was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he was very active as a leader of the Boy Scouts of America and as a leader and advisor for the Explorer Scouts. He was a member of the Crescent Masonic Lodge No. 133 AF&AM and the Shelton Beaty Post No. 18 American Legion. Tom also enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, and camping. Survivors include his wife, Marty of the home; two sons Dr. Thomas A. and his wife, Cassie of Plainville, Kan., The Reverend Mark S. and his wife, Carla Nuckols of North Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters, Vicki and her husband, Richard Hensley of Arkansas City, Nancy and her husband, Michael Meyer of Littleton, Colo.; one sister, Sue and her husband, Dr. Phillip Brown of Nashville, Tenn.; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Philomenia Barbara Nuckols; two brothers, Jack and Arthur Phil "Bub" Nuckols; one sister, Margaret Davis; and a granddaughter, Karen Nuckols.

Thomas Martin "Tom" Nuckols
Funeral services for Thomas Martin "Tom" Nuckols, 75, Arkansas City, who died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Lance Carrithers officiating. Interment was in the Parker Cemetery. Masonic rites were by Crescent Masonic Lodge No. 133 AF&AM, Arkansas City. Military Honors were by McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita. Organist was Melba Maechtlen. Special music was by Kathleen Ferris. Casket bearers were Patrick Nuckols, Paul Nuckols, Brad Nuckols, Nate Revercomb, Andy Sparks and Alex Meyer. Honorary casket bearers were Everett Bowman, Bill Murphy, Earl Bowman and David Burns.

Leonard L. "Roy" Smith
Funeral services for Leonard L. "Roy" Smith, 83, Arkansas City, who died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at Rindt-Erdman Funeral home with Pastor Norman Reeves of the Dexter Christian Church officiating. Interment was in the Maple City Cemetery. Pianist was Stephen Butler. Special music was by Jim and Jan Miller. Casket bearers were Melvin Patterson, Richard Winters, Paul Endorf, Leland Sweetwood, Dean Crossman, Phen Ven and Olin White. Honorary casket bearers were the members of the Arkansas City Horseshoe Association.

Robert Earl "Buck" Buck
Robert Earl "Buck" Buck, 74, Dexter, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at Dexter Care Center. Funeral services will be held privately by the family. Born April 25, 1929, in Centrahoma, Okla., he was the son of Selma Earl and Rosa Buck. He worked for the Radcliff Ranch in Dexter, until his retirement. Survivors include his brother, Cecil R. Buck of California; sisters, Betty Holloway of Washington; Wanda Brooks of California; Aleta Buck of Washington and Pat Bowdle of Arkansas and his sister-in-law, Joan Patterson of Dexter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Lee Knoble.

Funeral services for Earle McGrath, 89, Arkansas City, who died Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City, with Rev. Steve Chambers of the Central Christian Church officiating. Interment was in the IOOF Cemetery
in Ponca City. Pianist was Stephen Butler. Vocalist was Dale Christenson. Casket bearers were Duane Christenson, Bob Christenson, Doyle Wedd, Dale Christenson, Charles Cooley and Kyle Cooley.
