Henrietta E. Lenz 1920-2001
HOLYROOD - Henrietta E. Lenz, 81, died Aug. 7 at Central Kansas Medical
Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born May 28, 1920, in
Spearville, the daughter of Asby and Nettie Tockert Peters. She married
Chester D. Lenz Sr. Aug. 3, 1946, in Dodge City. A resident of Holyrood,
coming from Phillipsburg, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Lenz was a member of the Catholic church and Daughters of Isabella.
Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Chester D. Lenz Jr. of
Assaria; four daughters, Janice Weiershauser of Germany, Pamela Burns of
Honolulu, Hawaii, Annie Lenz of Derby and Jane Stewart of Spokane, Wash.;
three brothers, John Peters of Great Bend, Nathan Peters of Dodge City and
Stanley Peters of Oklahoma City, Okla.; 13 grandchildren; and one
great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Peters
and Earl Peters.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Maple Grove cemetery in
Dodge City. Friends may call until 9 tonight at Bryant-Christians Funeral
Home in Great Bend. Memorials are suggested to Holyrood Emergency Medical
Service, in care of the funeral home.

John Lewis Brock 1921-2001
ARKANSAS CITY - John Lewis Brock, 79, died Aug. 6 at Kansas Heart Hospital
in Wichita. He was born Oct. 16, 1921, in Geuda Springs, the son of Frank
Dayton and Ollie Maggie Patterson Brock. He attended school in the Geuda
Springs area. He married
Lois Dahlia Beatty May 14, 1956, in Sedan. She
died Dec. 20, 1995. A resident of Arkansas City, he was a mower for the
street department and retired from the city of Arkansas City.
Brock was a member of Spencer-Ralston Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1254 in
Arkansas City. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include one son, John Metzen of Great Bend; two daughters, Sheryl
Sheppard of Anaheim, Calif. and Joyce Berryman of Arkansas City; one
brother, Harry Brock of Arkansas City; two sisters, Irma Mae Hill of
Arkansas City and Effie Louise Roe of Grenola; five grandchildren; and five
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Brock
Jr. and Marion Brock; one sister, Agnes Shore; and two grandchildren,
Jeanne Metzen and William Metzen.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hawks Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in
Arkansas City. Burial will be Geuda Springs cemetery in Geuda Springs.
Friends may call until 8 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are
suggested to the Cowley County Council of Aging, in care of the funeral
home.

A.F. 'Louie' Gerritzen 1912-2001
CLAFLIN - A.F. "Louie" Gerritzen, 89, died Aug. 7 at Hoisington
Rehabilitation Center in Hoisington. He was born Jan. 27, 1912, near Odin,
the son of Frank J. and Angela A. "Nettie" Herman Gerritzen. He married
Elizabeth A. Acherman Aug. 29, 1939, in Windthorst. A lifelong resident of
the Claflin-Odin community area, he was owner/operator of Gerritzen Welding
a substitute mail carrier, both of Claflin.
Gerritzen was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was a
former mayor, both in Claflin.
Survivors include his wife of the home; four daughters, Sharlene Reichard
of Great Bend, Carol Davis of Dodge City, Marilyn Post of Hutchinson and
Janet Weseloh of Sylvan Grove; two sisters, Martha Reeves of Great Bend and
Teresa Rome of Hoisington; six grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Joanne Hamm;
four brothers, Peter Gerritzen, William Gerritzen, Anthony Gerritzen and
Joseph Gerritzen; and two sisters, Agnes Gerritzen and Clara Wheeler.
Vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home
in Hoisington. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church, with the
Revs. David Flagor and Pascal Klein officiating. Burial will be at Claflin
Cemetery in Claflin. Friends may call until 9 p.m. tonight and from 9 a.m.
to 9 p.m. Thursday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to
Claflin Ambulance Fund, in care of the funeral home.

Julie Lynn Herres 1953-2001
MANHATTAN - Julie Lynn Herres, 48, died Aug. 6 at her residence in
Manhattan. She was born Aug. 1, 1953, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of
Dr. G. Rex and Shirley L. Barham Stone. She was a 1971 graduate of
Manhattan High School and attended Kansas State University. A resident of
Manhattan, coming fromHoisington, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include three daughters, Sarah Herres of Manhattan, Hannah Herres
of Great Bend and Addie Herres of Hoisington; her mother of Manhattan; and
two brothers, Brett Stone of Manhattan and Bruce Stone of Shawnee.
Funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral
Home in Manhattan, with the Rev. R. Cam McConnell officiating. A private
graveside service will follow. Friends may call from 1:30 p.m. until
service time Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Riley
County Humane Society or Riley County Seniors' Service Center, all in care
of the funeral home.

Larry Locke 1944-2001
GORHAM - Larry Locke, 57, died Aug. 3 at Russell Regional Hospital in
Russell. He was born July 7, 1944, in Great Bend, the son of Sigmund and
Frances Boxberger Locke. He married
Gayle F. Guliford July 12, 1982, in
Hoisington. A resident of Gorham, he was an oil field roustabout until he
was medically retired.
Survivors include his wife of Great Bend; one son, Terry Lynn Locke of
Hays; his mother of Gorham; one sister, Sharon Miller of Gorham; and one
grandchild.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Fairview cemetery in
Galatia, with the Rev. Martha Hartman officiating. There will be no
visitation, cremation has taken place. There are no memorials suggested.

Verla Nadine Ham Ross 1928-2001
HUNTSVILLE, Ark. - Verla Nadine Ham Ross, 73, died Aug. 4 at Rush County
Memorial Hospital in La Crosse. She was born May 27, 1928, in Forum, Ark.,
the daughter of Dutch B. and Dorothy Eva White Ham. A resident of
Huntsville, she was a beautician.
She was a member of the Baptist church.
Survivors include two sons, Kevin Ross of Selma, Ala., and John Ross of
Hillsboro, Ore.; one brother, Jimmy Ham of Mission, Texas; two sisters,
Georgia Smith of Huntsville and Joyce McKnight of Wichita; and one
granddaughter. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Ham and
Aaron Ham.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Brashears Funeral Home Chapel in
Huntsville, with the Rev. Jimmie D. Hobbs officiating. Burial will be at
Marshall cemetery in Forum, Ark. There will be no visitation. No memorials
are suggested.

Josh Emerson 1975-2001
OTIS - Josh Emerson, 26, died Aug. 6 at his home in Otis. He was born April
14, 1975, in Great Bend, the son of Raymond and Karen Rasmussen Emerson. He
was a graduate of Hoisington High School and Fort Hays State University. He
married Jatim Piland May 20, 2000, in Hoisington. A lifelong resident of
Hoisington area, he was a journeyman for Paul Wertenburger Construction
Company in Hays.
Emerson was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hoisington. He was
a member of the track and field teams of both FHSU and HHS, were he also
played tennis.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his parents of Great Bend; two
brothers, Chris Emerson of Hays and Kiel Emerson of Great Bend; and his
grandparents, Harold and Jean Emerson of Wichita.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in
Hoisington, with the Rev. Wayne Flanders officiating. Burial will be at
Hillcrest Memorial Park in Barton County. Friends may call until 9 tonight,
from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until service time
Thursday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Josh
Emerson Memorial Fund or Kansas For Kids, both in care of the funeral home.

Clayton C. Doty 1916-2001
PAWNEE ROCK - Clayton C. Doty, 85, died Aug. 3 at Central Kansas Medical
Center, St. Joseph Longterm Care in Larned. He was born Feb. 28, 1916, in
Hoisington, the son of Charles Franklin and Iva Mae Barry Doty. A lifelong
resident of Pawnee Rock, he was a retired mechanic.
Survivors include three sons, Larry Doty of La Crosse, Mike Doty of Great
Bend and Carlton Doty of Pawnee Rock; one half-brother, Wilbert Doty of
Great Bend; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by his wife.
Cremation has taken place. Burial will be in Adrian, Mich., at a later
date. There is no visitation. No memorials are suggested. Arrangements are
with Morell Funeral Home in Larned.

Martina Kreutzer-Windholz 1919-2001
VICTORIA - Martina Kreutzer-Windholz, 81, died Aug. 5 at Russell Regional
Hospital in Russell. She was born Nov. 16, 1919, in Munjor, the daughter of
Alois and Mathilda Hertel Younger. She married
John Kreutzer Sept. 10,
1940, in Hyacinth. He died Dec. 18, 1962. She married
Frank J. Windholz
Nov. 13, 1984, in Victoria. He died Nov. 23, 1997. A lifelong resident of
Ellis County, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Kreutzer-Windholz was a member of St. Fidelis Catholic Church and
Christian Mother Altar Society, both of Victoria.
Survivors include three daughters, Carol Jean Foos of Great Bend, Rose
Kreutzer of Victoria and Mary Walter of Bellville, Ill.; two brothers,
Elmer Younger of Yocemento and Marvin Younger of Ellis; one sister, Mildred
Windholz of Hays; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by one son, Solomon Kreutzer; two daughters, Betty Lou
Kreutzer and Shirley Braun; one sister, Albina Stecklin; and one grandson.
Christian Mothers Altar Society Rosary will be at 7:30 tonight, followed by
a vigil service, both at Cline's Mortuary in Hays. Funeral will be at 10
a.m. Wednesday at the mortuary, with the Rev. Frank X. Grinko officiating.
Burial will be at St. Joseph cemetery in Hays. Friends may call from 6-9
tonight and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday, all at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to Our Lady of Snow or Masses, in care of the
mortuary.

LeRoy F. Wellbrock 1930-2001
LeRoy F. Wellbrock, 71, of Great Bend, died Aug. 4 at Central Kansas
Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born March 14, 1930,
in Victoria, the son of Herman and Celestine Dreiling Wellbrock. He married
Merline Kuhn Aug. 8, 1953, in Victoria. A resident of Great Bend, he was a
retired production foreman for Petroleum Incorporated after 33 years of
service and was owner/operator of B"R"S Custom Catering Service for 20
years.
Wellbrock was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, lifetime and 4th
Degree Knight of Knights of Columbus and member of Veterans of Foreign Wars
Post 3111, all of Great Bend. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Lyle Wellbrock of Anthony
and Mark Wellbrock of Naperville, Ill.; one daughter, Milissa Panning of
Springdale, Ark.; three brothers, Jerry Wellbrock of Wichita, Donald
Wellbrock and Ralph Wellbrock, both of Hays; two sisters, Doris Schmidt of
Catherine and Melene Rohr of Wichita; and four granddaughters. He was
preceded in death by two brothers.
Vigil service will be at 7:30 tonight followed by a Knights of Columbus
rosary, all at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend. Funeral will
be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Warren Stecklein
officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend cemetery with military honors by
Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may call until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m.
until service time Tuesday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are
suggested to Holy Family School Endowment Fund, in care of the funeral home.

Douglas Cecil Smith 1935-2001
ST. JOHN - Douglas Cecil Smith, 66, died Aug. 4 at Friendship Manor in
Pratt. He was born Jan. 10, 1935, in Hutchinson, the son of Cecil E. and
Martha Louise Smith. He married
Gertrud Maria Smith June 30, 1956, in
Badtolz, Germany. A resident of Pratt, he was a farmer and stockman.
Smith was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a U.S. Army Airborn
veteran from 1953-1958.
Survivors include his wife of the home. He was preceded in death by one
son, Sidney Douglas Smith; one brother, Stanton Smith; and one sister,
Martha Geraldine Smith.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Minnis Chapel in St. John, with the
Revs. Jim Dicker and John Havens officiating. Burial will be at Neelands
Cemetery in rural Stafford County. Friends may call until 8 tonight, at the
funeral chapel. Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association or
American Lung Association, both in care of the funeral chapel.
