Georgia Ann Schwartzkopf 1936-2001
Georgia Ann Schwartzkopf, 65, of Great Bend, died Aug. 11 at Central Kansas
Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born April 1, 1936,
in La Crosse, the daughter of Leonard J. and Fern F. Boese Ellis. She
married Everett E. Schwartzkopf April 16, 1954, in Dodge City. He died
April 24, 1992. A resident of Great Bend for 34 years, coming from Burdett,
she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Schwartzkopf was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and
Community Theatre, both of Great Bend, Barton County Arts Council and
former member of the board of directors for Argonne Rebels.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Schwartzkopf of Wichita and Stanley
Schwartzkopf of Great Bend; one daughter, Tracey Legge of Wichita; her
fiance, Dr. Edward L. "Dusty" Jones of Great Bend; her mother, Fern F.
Nairn of Great Bend; one brother, Jack Ellis of San Francisco, Calif.; and
six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Michele
Revell; and one grandson, Brian Alan Legge.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Congregational United Church of
Christ in Great Bend, with the Rev. Diana Coberly officiating. Burial will
be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call until 9 tonight at
Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend and from 9 a.m. until service
time Tuesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Great Bend Community
Theatre or Barton County Arts Council, both in care of the funeral home.

Wilbur R. Traylor 1919-2001
LARNED - Wilbur R. Traylor, 82, died Aug. 10 at Central Kansas Medical
Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born June 10, 1919, in Pawnee
County, the son of Arthur and Clara Belle Lancaster Traylor. He married
Harriett G. Kline June 25, 1950, in Larned. She died Oct. 31, 1998. A
lifelong resident of Pawnee County, he was a grounds keeper at Larned State
Hospital.
Traylor was a member of United Methodist Church and life member of Veterans
of Foreign Wars, both of Larned, Modern Woodmen of America and Eagles
Lodge, both of Great Bend.
Survivors include three brothers, Loren Traylor of Spearville, Eldon
Traylor of Tulsa, Okla., and Lyle Traylor. He was preceded in death by one
brother, Cecil Traylor; and one sister, Fern Avary.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned,
with the Rev. Charles Grant officiating. Burial will be at Larned Cemetery.
Friends may call until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. until service time
Tuesday, all at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the church, in
care of the mortuary.

Earline V. Demanett 1925-2001
PLAINVILLE - Earline V. Demanett, 75, died Aug. 11 at Hays Regional Medical
Center in Hays. She was born Aug. 19, 1925, in rural Cloud County, the
daughter of Earl and Hazel Reid Christenson. She married
Wilbur Demanett
Aug. 7, 1943, in Belton, Texas. A resident of Plainville, she was a
homemaker.
Mrs. Demanett was a member of First Lutheran Church, Lutheran Womens
Missionary League and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, all of Plainville.
Survivors include her husband of the home; six daughters, Carol Harris of
Great Bend, Virginia Lynch of Lemon Grove, Calif., Judy Sherard of Hays,
Dianne Meyers of Ellis, Debra Becker and Stacey Demanett, both of
Plainville; one brother, Wayne Christenson of Sturgis, S.D.; one sister,
Sharon Archer of Abilene; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She
was preceded in death by two sisters, Marcelle Kelly and Beverly Gaitlin.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Revs. Victor
Samuel and Larry McDermott officiating. Burial will be at Plainville
Cemetery. Friends may call until 8 tonight, with the family receiving
friends from 7-8 p.m. at Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel in Plainville and
from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church. Memorials are
suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home.

Anna L. Campbell 1924-2001
CHASE - Anna L. Campbell, 77, died August 9 at Hutchinson Hospital,
Hutchinson. She was born March 22, 1924 in rural Chase, the daughter of
Walter and Anna Ball Feldman. She was a graduate of Chase High School. She
married Leo "Pete" Campbell at Hot Springs, Ark. He died Feb. 20, 1999. a
lifetime resident of Chase, she was a former secretary for Gulf Oil and
Newspaper Editor for the Chase Index.
Mrs. Campbell was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lyons,
Peacemakers Quilt Guild of Rice County, a former Chase City Council person,
and Mid K- Campers.
Survivors include one son, Jim Campbell of Hutchinson; one daughter, Carol
Manry of Great Bend; and two grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sillin Funeral Home in
Lyons with Johnnie Hardie officiating. Burial will be at Chase Springdale
Cemetery in Chase. Memorials are suggested to the Peacemakers Quilt Guild
of Rice County, in care of the funeral home.

Mark Edward Goodfellow 1960-2001
LIBERAL - Mark Edward Goodfellow, 41, died August 10 at Southwest Medical
Center in Liberal. He was born Feb. 11, 1960 at Overland Park, the son of
Lawrence Everett and Joan Marie McGinty Goodfellow. He married
Rebecca S.
Clark July 11, 1992 in Great Bend. A resident of Liberal since June 16,
coming from Great Bend where he was a Sheriff's Deputy for Barton County.
Goodfellow was a member of the Kansas Sheriff's Association, Kansas Peace
Officers Association, National Riffle Association, and Kansas Law
Enforcement Association. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
Survivors include his wife of the home; his fatherof Kansas City, Mo.; one
brother, Craig Goodfellow of Kansas City, Mo.; three sisters, Cindy
Blackman and Judy Goodfellow of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Jean Goodfellow of
Tulsa, Okla.
Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Great Bend Family
Mortuary with the Don Paden officiating. Cremation has taken place. Friends
may call from 8 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Memorials are
suggested to the Barton County Sheriff's Reserve in care of the funeral
home.

Larry E. Klein 1935-2001 photo
HOISINGTON - Larry E. Klein, 66, died August 10 at Via Christi Regional
Medical Center, St. Francis Campus in Wichita. He was born May 22, 1935 at
Gorham, the son of Rudolph and Lousie Klotz Klein. He married
Helen
Courange August 17, 1953 at Russell. A resident of Hoisington since 1953,
coming from Russell, he was an oil field worker for Kansas Fishing Tool in
Great Bend.
Klein was a member of the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife of the home; five sons, Curtis Klein of
Canadian, Tx., Mike Klein, Todd Klein and Larry Klein all of Great Bend,
Robert Klein of Hoisington; two daughters, Karen Barrow of Great Bend,
Tammy Cusenbery of Fort Worth, Tx.; five brothers, Richard Klein, Neal
Klein, Fred Klein all of Augusta, Ga., Jerry Klein of Russell, and Melvin
Klotz of Nevada, Mo.; 20 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by one grandchild, Robin Klein.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral
Home in Hoisington, with the Rev. Garry Dassow. Burial will be at
Hoisington cemetery in Hoisington. Friends may call from 4- 9 p.m. tonight,
from 9a.m. to 9p.m. on Monday and 9 a.m. until service time on Tuesday, all
at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Larry Klein Memorial

Margaret Louise Hardwick 1913-2001
SAXMAN - Margaret Louise Hardwick, 87, died Aug. 11 at Good Samaritan
Center in Lyons. She was born Aug. 18, 1913, in rural Saxman, the daughter
of John Hobart and Dora Martha Slentz Jones. She was a 1932 graduate of
Sterling High School and attended Hutchinson Junior College. She married
Ted Hardwick July 22, 1933, in Saxman. He died June 3, 1987. A lifetime
resident of Rice County in the Saxman area, she was a homemaker and Saxman
correspondent for the Lyons Daily News and Sterling Bulletin.
Mrs. Hardwick was a member of Saxman United Presbyterian Church, where she
served as an elder, Sunday school teacher and choir member, 65-year member
of Atlanta Achievers Extension Homemakers Unit, Chaldean Club, Missionary
Circle, all of Saxman, 4-H project leader and National Honor Society.
Surviviors include two daughters, Judy Sellers of Lyons and Shirley Jobe of
Fort Worth, Texas; one brother, Lawrence Jones of Canoga Park, Calif.; two
sisters, Kay Webb of Simpson, Ill., and Letha Bush of Casper, Wyo.; five
grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two
brothers, Merwin Jones and Russell Jones; and one sister, Eulela Phillips.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Lyons with
the Rev. Cindy Watson officiating. Burial will be at Lyons Municipal
Cemetery in Lyons. Friends may call from 2-7 p.m. Monday at Sillin Funeral
Home in Lyons. Memorials are suggested to Lyons Good Samartian Center or
Rice County Community Foundation - Arena Building, in care of the funeral

Duane A. 'Jake' Liggett 1934-2001
RUSH CENTER - Duane A. "Jake" Liggett, 66, died Aug. 8 at Hays Medical
Center in Hays. He was born Nov. 16, 1934, in Alexander, the son of Jerry
S. and Edna Mae West Liggett. He attended Rush Center Grade School and was
a 1953 graduate of La Crosse High School. A lifelong resident of Rush
County, he was an electrical lineman.
Survivors include two brothers, John Liggett and Donald Liggett, both of
Rush Center; and three sisters, Doris Witthuhn and Judy McCoy, both of
Hays, and Sharon Mendenhall of La Crosse. He was preceded in death by one
brother, Vernon Leroy Liggett; and one sister, Lorna Mae Liggett.
Prayer service will be at 7 tonight at Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church in La
Crosse, with the Rev. Kathy Bannister officiating. Burial will be at Rush
Center Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Phyllis A. Laing 1935-2001
LARNED - Phyllis A. Laing, 66, died Aug. 9 at her residence in Larned. She
was born April 8, 1935, in Bornville, Ohio, the daughter of Ralph and Mabel
Beatty Depoy. She married
Larry J. Laing April 11, 1954, in Larned. A
resident of Larned since 1950, she was a stock clerk for Central Kansas
Medical Center, St. Joseph Campus in Larned.
Mrs. Laing was a member of Larned Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include one son, Bryan E. Laing of Larned; two sisters, Barbara
Easterday of West Jefferson, Ohio, and Jenny Meyers of Bainbridge, Ohio;
four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Cremation was arranged with Beckwith Mortuary in Larned. Services will be
announce by the mortuary at a later date.

Mary F. Schwertfeger 1926-2001
KINSLEY - Mary F. Schwertfeger, 75, died Aug. 8 at Edwards County Hospital
in Kinsley. She was born March 28, 1926, in Hoisington, the daughter of
James and Emaline Barrett. She married
Leroy E. Schwertfeger Sept. 24,
1977, in Hoisington. A resident of Kinsley, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Schwertfeger was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and
Daughters of Isabela, both of Kinsley.
Survivors include her husband of the home.
Vigil service will be at 7:30 tonight at the church. Funeral will be at
10:30 a.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Marvin Reif officiating. Burial will be
at St. Nicholas cemetery in Kinsley. Friends may call until 5 tonight at

Hedwig 'Hedy' Arbuckle 1923-2001
JUNCTION CITY - Hedwig "Hedy" Arbuckle, 77, died Aug. 9 at St. Francis
Medical Center in Topeka. She was born Oct. 17, 1923, in Schlesien, Poland,
the daughter of Frantz and Anna Augustin Buncek. She married
Larry Arbuckle
April 14, 1960, in Dotzhiem, Germany. A resident of Junction City since
1977, coming from Germany, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband of the home; one daughter, Sylvia Neudeck of
Germany; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Johnson Funeral Chapel in
Junction City with the Rev. Russell Rose officiating. Burial will be
Hoisington cemetery in Hoisington. There will be no visitation, cremation
has taken place. Memorials are suggested to Hedwig Arbuckle Expense Fund,
