Charlotte Louise Kinzel 1939-2001
Charlotte Louise Kinzel, 62, of Great Bend, died Aug. 25 in Great Bend. She
was born Feb. 4, 1939, in Odessa, Texas, the daughter of Howard T. and
Clara Williams Lake. She married
David Kinzel June 22, 1957, in Great Bend.
A longtime resident of Great Bend, she worked as a claims adjuster for
Crawford and Company in Great Bend and Dodge City.
Mrs. Kinzel was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend.
Survivors include her husband of the home; three sons, Mike Kinzel of Des
Moines, Iowa, Monte Kinzel of Baxter, Iowa, and Stuart Kinzel of New
Orleans, La.; one daughter, Lora Fuss of Lakin; one brother, David Lake of
Topeka; and six grandchildren.
Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home
in Great Bend. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with
the Revs. Warren Stecklein and Eugene Kenny officiating. Burial will be at
Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 9
p.m. Tuesday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to American
Lung Association, in care of the funeral home.

Karen Sheldon-Norwood 1946-2001
BURLINGTON, Colo. - Services for Karen Sheldon-Norwood, 54, will be Tuesday
at Love Funeral Home in Burlington. Burial will be at Ft. Lyon National
Cemetery in Ft. Lyon, Colo. Friends may call from 6-8 tonight at the

Lois L. Brack 1925-2001
Lois L. Brack, 75, of Great Bend , died August 24 at her residence in Great
Bend. She was born Nov. 4, 1925, at Barton County, the daughter of Jake and
Iva Lacey Hartshorn. She married
Richard R. Brack Nov. 15, 1941 in Hays. He
died Mar. 21, 1983. A lifelong resident of Great Bend, she was a State
supervisor for Royal Neighbors of American Fraternal Life Insurance. Co.
Mrs. Brack was a member of the First Christian Church , League of Women
Voters, Royal Neighbors of America, and a volunteer at the Barton Co.
Historical Society all of Great Bend. Survivors include one son, Richard R.
Brack Jr. of Lawrence; two daughters, Lori Brack of Salina, and Mary Jane
Miller of Lawrence; one sister, Vernea Mae Varah of Great Bend, and two
grandsons. She was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.
Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. on Sept. 1 at the Great Bend Family
Mortuary in Great Bend. Inurnment will be at a later time. Friends may call
from 9 a.m. until service time on Sept. 1 at the funeral home. Memorials
are suggested to Golden Belt Hospice or Royal Neighbors of America
scholarship program for Kansas high school students in care of the mortuary.

Jose H. Espinosa Sr. 1905-2001
Jose H. Espinosa Sr., 96, of Great Bend, died Aug. 24 at Integrated Health
Services of Great Bend. He was born Aug. 2, 1905, at Monterrey, Nuevo Leon
in Mexico, the son of Tiburcio and Francisca Espinosa Hernandez . He
married Natalia Ramirez July 29, 1933, at Alice, Texas. She died July 6,
1973. A resident of Great Bend since 1943, he was the owner of Espinosa and
Sons Trash Service, a construction worker and foreman and caretaker of
Weller Farms.
Espinosa was a minister and member of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Survivors include seven sons, Joe Espinosa Jr. of Stafford, Tivurcio
'Butch' Espinosa, Lawrence Espinosa, Gilbert Espinosa, Robert Espinosa and
Jesse Espinosa, all of Great Bend, and Oscar Espinosa of Ellinwood; two
daughters, Jane Stejskal of Hutchinson and Lalita Semon of Manhattan; one
brother, Julio Hernandez of Stafford; two sisters, Lucille Ojeda and
Katherine McCormick both of Hutchinson; 23 grandchildren; 24
great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in
death by one brother, Damian Espinosa; and four sisters, Francisca Trevino,
Frances Ruelas, Ruth Castor and Olivia Rodriguez.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Bryant-Christians Chapel in Great Bend
with Walter Pemberton officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery.
Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. tonight, and from 9 a.m. until service time
on Monday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend. Memorials are
suggested to the Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall in Great Bend.

Ardeth D. Pittman 1916-2001
Ardeth D. Pittman, 85, of Great Bend, died Aug. 25 at Integrated Health
Services in Great Bend. He was born Oct. 2, 1916, at Gorman Texas, the son
of John Newton and Cannie Fuller Pittman. He married
Eva Arlene Brown May
14, 1939, in Gorman. A resident of Great Bend for six years coming from
Gorman he was a Superintendent for Chicago Bridge and Iron Company in
Gorman.
Pittman was a member of the First Baptist Church in Gorman, a fifty-year
member of Masonic Lodge and past Grand Master of Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Janie Anderson;one
brother, Murl Edward Pittman, six grandchlidren and 14 great-
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Neal Ray Pittman; one
daughter, Julia Ann Belgau and three brothers, Gerald G. Pittman, Cle Dale
Pittman, and John Wayne Pittman.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be at
Gorman Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. tonight, and from 9 -11
a.m. Monday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend and from 8 a.m.
- 1 p.m. at Higginbottam Funeral Home in Gorman. Memorials are suggested to

James R. 'Bob' Gilmore 1924-2001
RAYTOWN, Mo. - James R. 'Bob' Gilmore, 76, died Aug. 22 at Lee's Summit
Hospital in Lee's Summit, Mo. He was born Dec. 3, 1924, in Larned. He
married Fannie "Fran" Louella Adams Feb. 15, 1947, in Great Bend. A
resident of Raytown, coming from rural Stafford County, he was a retired
carpenter and operator of Deerhorn Stables.
Gilmore was a member of Carpenter's Local 61, boy scout leader of Troop
128, Top Railers Square Dance Club, Red Hots Square Dance Club, and
Pleasant Hill Saddle Club, all of Raytown. He was a U.S. Army veteran of
World War II.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Robert Gilmore of
Chilhowee, Mo., Dennis Gilmore and Don Gilmore, both of Lee's Summit; two
sisters, Georgia Campbell of Plano, Texas and Connie Rube of Great Bend;
and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley
Dingwall and Barbara Engleman.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Muehleback Funeral Home in Kansas
City, Mo. Friends may call from 7-8 tonight at the funeral home. There are
no memorials suggested.

William Henry Rich II 1924-2001
William Henry Rich II, 77, of Great Bend, died Aug. 23 at Central Kansas
Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born Aug. 1, 1924, in
Pratt, the son of William Henry and Jenevieve Loyle Bradley Rich. He
married Mary Grace Robinson June 6, 1947, in Pratt. A resident of Great
Bend since 1948, coming from St. John, he was a farmer and shell loader for
Dresser-Atlas Oil Company in Great Bend.
Rich was a member of First Christian Church of Great Bend and the Mayflower
Association. He was a U.S. Merchant Marines veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, William Henry Rich III
of Lawrence, Bradley James Rich of Milan, Mich. and Douglas Mark Rich of
Tucson, Ariz.; three daughters, Linda Sue Patton of Amite, La., Janet Lou
Steinrock of Ann Arbor, Mich. and Lana Jo Rich of Tucson; one brother,
James Robert Rich of North Kansas City, Mo.; one sister, Dorothy Pearl
Clowers of Broomfield, Colo.; two step sisters, Wilma Schuster of Great
Bend and Grace Abel of Kingman, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Great Bend Family Mortuary in
Great Bend, with the Revs. Alexander Robinson and David Robinson
officiating. Inurnment will be at Fairview cemetery in St. John at a later
date. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the
mortuary. There will be a reception following the service at the Holiday
Inn in Great Bend. Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association
or American Heart Association, both in care of the mortuary.

Allen F. Darnell Jr. 1920-2001
SILVER CITY, N.M. - Allen F. Darnell Jr., 81, died Aug. 21 at Willow Manor
Assisted Living Center in Deming, N.M. He was born March 14, 1920, in
Texarkana, Texas, the son of Allen Franklin Sr. and Lola Lee Cunningham
Darnell. He married
Lois Juanita Singleton Sept. 27, 1941 in Laurel, Miss.
A resident of Silver City, he was a materials superintendent for
Halliburton for 26 years.
Darnell was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served as
deacon, trustee and elder.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Scarlett Hardesty of
Silver City; one granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.
Private family services will be held at Fort. Bayard National Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice in care of Bright Funeral
Home in Silver City.

Odesia Jane Stramel 1922-2001
HAYS - Odesia Jane Stramel, 78, died Aug. 22 at Hays Medical Center in
Hays. She was born Oct. 13, 1922, in Pawnee, Okla., the daughter of Arthur
and Elizabeth Campbel. She married
Emil Stramel June 3, 1946, in Pfeifer.
He died April 10, 1998. A resident of Hays, coming from Pfeifer, she was a
homemaker.
Mrs. Stramel was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in
Hays. She was a former member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Pfeifer and
Sunflower Polka Club.
Survivors include two sons, Dale Stramel and Gene Stramel, both of Hays;
one daughter, Judy Schmidt of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one brother, James
Campbel of Red Rock, Okla.; five grandchildren; and four
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Lynn D. Stramel;
one brother, Andy Campbel; and one infant sister.
Holy Cross Christian Mothers Rosary will be at 7 tonight with a vigil
service following at 7:30 tonight, both at Cline's Mortuary in Hays.
Funeral will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic
Church in Hays, with the Rev. David Metz officiating. Burial will be at
Holy Cross cemetery in Pfeifer. Friends may call from 3-9 p.m. tonight and
from 8-8:45 a.m. Saturday, all at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to

Richard Gerald Cox 1908-2001
Richard Gerald Cox, 92, died Aug. 22 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St.
Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born Sept. 5, 1908, in Norman, Okla., the
son of Orval and Vergie Mendel Cox. He married
Margaret Schenk May 29,
1950, in Great Bend. A resident of Great Bend for 75 years, coming from
Norman, he worked as a truck driver for Halliburton.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one step daughter, Freida Collett
of Del City, Okla.; one sister, Alfreeda Brummer of Houston, Texas; one
half-brother, Delirene Cox of Eufaula, Okla.; two grandchildren; one
great-grandchild; and two step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by
one son, William Cox; one daughter, Theada Croft; one sister, Vivian Cox;
and two half-sisters, Roselee Bunajan and Vinita.
Funeral was this morning at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home Chapel in Great
Bend, with the Revs. Warren Stecklein and Fred Tuzicka officiating. Burial
was at St. Ann cemetery in Olmitz. Memorials are suggested to American
Heart Association, in care of the funeral home.

Wanda Lou Calvert 1930-2001
HAYSVILLE - Wanda Lou Calvert, 71, died Aug. 22. She was born July 7, 1930,
in Great Bend, the daughter of Dorsey and Opal Fisher Brown. She married
Robert C. Calvert Nov. 1, 1950, in Great Bend. He died June 27, 2001. A
resident of Haysville, coming from Great Bend, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, John Calvert of Haysville and Dennis Calvert of
Wichita; two daughters, Nancy McGlothlin of Peck and Marjorie Leech of
Great Bend; one brother, Dan Brown of Boise, Idaho; three sisters, Judie
Webb of Oklahoma City, Okla., Kris Cookson of Wichita and Barbara Myer of
Enid, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by one son, Robert Lewis Calvert.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Smith Mortuary in Haysville. There
will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes
Association, in care of the mortuary.
