Robert "Ray" Fercking 1934-2001
Robert "Ray" Fercking, 66, of Great Bend, died Oct. 3 at Hutchinson Hospital in Hutchinson. He was born Nov. 8, 1934, in Ness County, the son of Nicholas Henry and Lillie Viola Eitel Fercking. He married
Luella Cline June 3, 1954, at Sacred Heart Church in Ness City. A resident of Barton County since 1968, he was a sales/business owner. Fercking was a past member of Elks Club and St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, both in Great Bend. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Ronald Fercking of Hoisington and Delvin Fercking of Great Bend; one daughter, Jolinda Sloan of McCracken; one brother, Roy Fercking of Kalvesta; one sister, Doris Stiawalt of Aransas Pass, Texas; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one son, Michael Fercking; and one sister, Dorothy Gabel. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fryberger Mortuary in Great Bend, with the Rev. Leroy Keith officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart cemetery in Ness City. Friends may call until 8 p.m. tonight at the mortuary. William D. Morgan 1917-2001
LARNED - William D. Morgan, 83, died Oct. 4 at his home in Larned. he was born Dec. 25, 1917, in Tinewell, Ill., the son of Ottawa and Alberta Davis Morgan. He married
Alisa M. Hofmaster Dec. 30, 1946, in Great Bend. A resident of Larned since 1981, coming from Great Bend, he worked as a feed truck driver. Morgan was a member of Pawnee Rock Methodist Church and life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars in Larned. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, David L. Morgan of Wichita, Verlin "Orley" Morgan of Larned and Gale Morgan of Rogers, Ark.; and six grandchildren. Memorial graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Hillcrest cemetery in Great Bend, with the Rev. Charles Grant officiating. Cremation has taken place. Friends may sign the register from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and from 9 a.m. until noon Monday, all at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned. Valarie Ann Nethercutt Donaruma 1965-2001
JONES, Okla. - Valarie Ann Nethercutt Donaruma, 36, died Oct. 3. She was born Aug. 15, 1965, in Oklahoma City, Okla., the daughter of Lannie and Virginia Ann Burton Nethercutt. She married
Joseph Anthony Donaruma. She was a 1984 graduate of Great bend High School. She was a resident of Jones. Survivors include her husband of the home; three sons, Justin Bozeman, Nicholas Donaruma and Anthony Donaruma, all of Jones; two daughters, Tasha Bozeman and Brittini Donaruma; her parents, Roy and Virginia Bozeman and Lannie and Anita Nethercutt; her grandparents, Martha Burton, Lloyd and Joyce Brents, and Ruth Bozeman; two brothers, Larry Nethercutt and R.L. Bozeman; and four sisters, Tresa McCarty, Daveeda Palmer, Jnetta Clark and Tina Bozeman. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Crossroads Cathedral Church in Oklahoma, with the Revs. Gary Bohanon and Paul Sparks officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Oklahoma. Irene Dannebohm 1911-2001
ELLINWOOD - Irene Dannebohm, 89, died Oct. 3 at Leisure Homestead in Stafford. She was born Dec. 10, 1911, in Alden, the daughter of Claude and Louise Reiser Parker. She was a 1928 graduate of Alden High School. She married
Stanley Dannebohm Nov. 6, 1929, in Alden. He died Nov. 20, 1993. A lifelong resident of Barton County, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Dannebohm was a member of First Baptist Church in rural Ellinwood. Survivors include four sons, Donald Dannebohm, Robert Dannebohm, Gary Dannebohm and Larry Dannebohm, all of Ellinwood; one daughter, Marilyn Meyer of Garden City; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. David Wesner officiating. Burial will be at Lakin-Comanche District cemetery in Ellinwood. HUTCHINSON - Henry Alvin 'Al' Karst, 86, died Oct. 1 at St. Mary's Manor in Blue Springs, Mo. He was born Oct. 21, 1914, in Galatia, the son of George H. and Maria Schenkel Karst. He married
Elma Bisterfeldt Oct. 4, 1936, in Milberger. She died Nov. 1, 1982. He married
Shirl Imel in November, 1983 in Hutchinson. She died in Nov. 11, 1989. A resident of Hutchinson, he worked as a meat cutter for Dillons Food Stores and as a custodian for the public schools, all in Hutchinson. Karst was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and Moose Lodge, both in Hutchinson. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include one son, Ronald L. Karst of Blue Springs; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers; and seven sisters. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Johnson and Sons Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Hutchinson, with the Rev. Thomas Mendenhall officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Fairview cemetery in Galatia. LARNED - Lorene F. DeCoudres, 75, died Oct. 1 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Joseph Campus in Larned. She was born Sept. 30, 1926, in Milford, Mo., the daughter of Donald Madison and Carrie Edna Doyl Thompson. She married
Carl P. DeCoudres Feb. 14, 1946, in Fort Scott. A resident of Larned since 1951, she was a homemaker. Mrs. DeCoudres was a member of Church of the Nazarene in Larned. Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, Charles Wayne DeCoudres of Kansas City, Mo., and Rickie Eugene DeCoudres of Larned; four daughters, Carol F. Hall of Ellsworth, Dian Bartlett of Louisville, Ill., Terrie Smith of Larned and Mary Jane Bridges of Garden City; one brother, Frank Thompson; two sisters, Ruby DeCoudres of Fort Scott and Bernice Thompson of Hot Springs, Ark.; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Carl DeCoudres and Leroy DeCoudres; one daughter, Edna Marie DeCoudres; three brothers; one sister; and one grandson, Mickey Lee Bridges. Steven R. 'Bubba' Bender 1961-2001
EL RENO, Okla. - Steven R. "Bubba" Bender, 39, died Sept. 30 as a result of an automobile accident in El Reno. He was born July 14, 1961, in Great Bend, the son of Edward A. and Mary L. Bender. He was a graduate of Great Bend High School and attended Barton County Community College and Sterling College. He married
Deanna Smith Dec. 23, 1989, in Great Bend. A resident of El Reno since 1993, coming from Great Bend, he worked in the oil fields for B.J. Services for 14 years. Bender was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in El Reno. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Joshua Bender of the home; two daughters, Brittany Bender and Christina Bender, both of the home; his mother of Great Bend; and one sister, Cynthia Vratil of Houston, Texas. Funeral will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Dr. G. Allen Schneider officiating. Burial will be at El Reno Cemetery. There is no visitation. Darrel G. Mounkes, 87, of Great Bend, died Oct. 2 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born March 31, 1914, in Lyon County, the son of Walter and Mary Sattler Mounkes. He earned his bachelor's degree from Kansas State University and a master's degree from Colorado State University. He married

Norma G. Gutierrez Dec. 27, 1977, in Great Bend. A resident of Great Bend for 24 years, coming from Herington, he was a retired teacher and principal. Mounkes was a member of the Methodist church and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Major Jay Mounkes of Travis Air Force Base, Calif.; one daughter, Sallee J. Dixson of Stillwater, Okla.; one stepson, Larry R. Marquez of Aptos, Calif.; one stepdaughter, Gloria Schamber of Hays; one brother, Clarence Mounkes of Emporia; three sisters, Eleanor Greene of Las Vegas, Nev., Frances Thompson of Cottonwood Falls and Darlene K. Bloom of Winston-Salem, N.C.; five grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, John Mounkes, J. Owen Mounkes and Floyd P. Harold T. Rice April 25, 1943. He died Oct. 6, 1961. She married
George Bird July 8, 1962. He died Nov. 15, 1981. A longtime resident of Pawnee County, she was a former Pawnee County treasurer. Mrs. Bird was a member of United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Order of the Eastern Star, all of Larned. Survivors include one son, Duane Rice of Springfield, Va.; one daughter, Margaret Gray of Fort Worth; two stepsons, Ronald Bird of Garfield and Gerald Bird of Blacksburg, Va.; one stepdaughter, Marjorie Barnes of Larned; one brother, Leo Galliart of Lee's Summit, Mo.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two stepdaughters, Marilyn Schwyhart and Kathleen Woodard; one sister, Edna Unruh; and two brothers, Fred Galliart and Glenn Galliart. LARNED - Lydia Belle Groves, 92, died Oct. 1 in Larned. She was born Dec. 22, 1908, in Esbon, the daughter of Arthur Alfonso and Mary Ann Moyer Dillon. She married
J.D. Groves Dec. 14, 1938, in Beloit. He died Dec. 14, 1994. A resident of Larned, she was a teacher, serving in 21 schools throughout Kansas in her 52-year career. Mrs. Groves was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church, Martha Circle, American Legion Auxiliary and Garden Club, all of Mankato, and Kansas Teacher Association. Survivors include one daughter, Daunele Prescott of Larned; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Melby Mortuary Chapel in Mankato, with the Rev. William H. Mundorf Sept. 21, 1984, in Chesterland, Ohio. A resident of Sterling, coming from Phoenix, Ariz., she was a homemaker. Mrs. Mundorf was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Lyons. Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, James Lightner of Pennsylvania; two daughters, Patty Ann Huffman and Angie Elsberry, both of Pennsylvania; one sister, Kathy Simmon of Phoenix; and five grandchildren. Mabel V. Chiles May 8, 1938, in Stafford. She died Aug. 3, 1991. A longtime resident of Stafford, before moving to Inman in 1994, he was a farmer, carpenter and operated Jim's Sundries in Stafford. Jimison was a member of First Baptist Church in Stafford. Survivors include one son, Conrad Jimison of Arkansas City; one daughter, Patricia Hostetler of Inman; three brothers, Lysle Jimison of Winfield, Howard Jimison of Lorraine and Russell Jimison of Wichita; four sisters, Dorthora Sanford, Lorraine Ripley and Marjorie Tribue, all of Wichita and Wanda Gere of Garden City; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
