HUTCHINSON - Jacqueline "Jacque" Ann Copeland, 61, died Oct. 28 at Mount Hope Nursing Center in Mount Hope. She was born Nov. 29, 1939, in Clinton, Okla., the daughter of Silbert and Ella Bruner Lanman. She was a 1958 graduate of Capron High School in Capron, Okla., and received her bachelor's degree from Northwest State University in Alva, Okla. She married
John Copeland Nov. 17, 1974, in Colorado Springs, Colo. A resident of Hutchinson for eight years, coming from Capron, she was coordinator of supported employment for Horizon's. Mrs. Copeland was a member of First Church of God in Hutchinson. Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, Robert O. Coffey II of Taylorsville, Utah, and Brian C. Coffey of Hinesville, Ga.; her mother of South Hutchinson; one brother, Kim B. Lanman of Fort Collins, Colo.; three sisters, Charlotte Teichmann of Great Bend, Janet Lanman and Gael Irvine, both of Palmer, Alaska; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Kevin J. Coffey; and one grandchild. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel in Hutchinson, with the Revs. John J. Carney and Kim Lanman officiating. Church and burial service will be Wednesday at Union Center cemetery in rural Alva. HOUSTON, Texas - JoAnn Schneweis Cline, 67, died Oct. 27 at Texas Medical Center in Houston. She was born Oct. 29, 1933, in Dodge City, the daughter of Albert and Catherine Boor Schneweis. She married
Leroy Cline June 29, 1953, in Dodge City. He died June 5, 2000. A resident of Houston, coming from New Jersey and Dodge City, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Cline was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Houston. Survivors include four sons, Rick Cline of Lenexa, Randy Cline of Richmond, Texas, Remy Cline of Hong Kong, China, and Rory Cline of Naperville, Ill.; her father of Dodge City; five brothers, Vernon Schneweis, Robert Schneweis, Michael Schneweis and Kenneth Schneweis, all of Dodge City, and David Schneweis of Lawrence; three sisters, Kathleen Minton of Montrose, Colo., Donna Dick and Karla Durrant, both of Dodge City; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Gerald Schneweis; and two sisters, Elaine Schneweis and Caroline Schneweis. BROOKVILLE - Ernest Carl Schultz, 87, died Oct. 25 at Riverview Estates in Marquette. He was born April 25, 1914 in Ellsworth County, the son of Carl Frank Frederick and Elva O. Fry Schultz. He married
Luise Marie Siemsen June 10, 1936 at Geneseo. She died May 9, 1995. A lifetime resident of Ellsworth county, he was a retired farmer and rancher. Schultz was a member of United Methodist Church in Marquette, and AA of Ellsworth. Survivors include one son, Wayne Emerson Schultz of rural Marquette; one daughter, Erna Carleen Erin Stevens of Falls Church, Va.; one sister, Elva Louise "Dolly" Bettenbrock of Ellsworth; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. He was preceded in death by one son John Schultz, and one brother Lyman Schultz. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Larry Brock officiating. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son John Rader of Topeka; and one sister Evelyn Roth of Ellinwood. Funeral will be at 10 a.m., Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lawrence. Thomas Ackerman July 7, 1982, Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. He died May 15, 1996. A lifelong resident of Barton and Rice Counties, she was retired from Farmer's State Bank in Great Bend and a homemaker. Mrs. Ackerman was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Altar Society and Eucharistic minister, all of Ellinwood. Survivors include two sons, Don Gillen of Schaumburg, Ill. and David Gillen of Wichita; three brothers, James Link of Longview, Wash., John Link of Vancouver, Wash. and Arnie Link of Chehalis, Wash.; four sisters, Marilyn Muth of Vernal, Utah, JoAnn Taylor of Hobbs, N.M., Carolyn Schoenhofer of Lyons and Kathleen Link of Great Bend; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. MACKSVILLE - Cody Kent Gatton, 18, died Oct. 24 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus in Wichita. He was born Jan. 5, 1983, in Great Bend, the son of Danny Kent and Mary Margaret Gatton. He was a 2001 graduate of St. John High School. A resident of Stafford, he was a student industrial equipment mechanic with John Deere Company. Gatton was a member of First Baptist Church of St. John and National Rifle Association. Survivors include his parents of Stafford; two sisters, Casey Michelle Gatton and Emily Jean Gatton, both of Stafford; his grandparents, Vigil and Vinita Gatton of Stafford and Bill and Margaret Symns of St. John; and his great-grandmothers, Edna Fox of St. John and Faye Gatton of Ellinwood. MANHATTAN - Velda M. Deutsch, 61, died Oct. 22 at her home in Manhattan. She was born April 13, 1940, in Hoisington, the daughter of Otto H. and Alvina Niedens Deutsch. She was a 1958 graduate of Hoisington High School. She graduated from Brown Mackie School of Business in Salina. A resident of Manhattan, coming from Great Bend and Hoisington, she worked in the Office of Economic Analysis at Kansas State University as a secretary and administrative assistant. Ed Ashe, Ira Clark Lloyd and Otto Nagunst. They all preceded her in death. A longtime resident of Barton County, she was a homemaker and babysitter. Mrs. Nagunst was a member of the Nazarene Church in Great Bend. Survivors include two sons, Bill Drewmond and George Lloyd, both of Great Bend; one daughter, Irene Sargent of Great Bend; two stepdaughters, Elsie Bell of Iola and Florence Rosenberger of Hastings, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Ira Lee Lloyd; one daughter, Gladys Ashe; one brother, Elmer Niedens; and three sisters, Mollie Niedens, Pamla Niedens and Olinda Niedens. Mrs. Hullett was a member of First Southern Baptist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, both of Larned. Survivors include her husband of the home; three sons, Bill Tibbs of Great Bend, Tony Hullett of Knoxville, Tenn. and Ralph Hullett of Aurora, Colo.; three daughters, Linda Devers of Fredericksburg, Va., Mary Rincones of Parker, Colo. and Barbara Froetschner of Great Bend; and nine grandchildren. Chester Batchman May 28, 1951, in Great Bend. He died Dec. 11, 1995. A lifelong resident of Great Bend, she worked at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. Mrs. Batchman was a member of First United Methodist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, both in Great Bend. Survivors include two brothers, Duane Pedigo of Great Bend and Wilbur Pedigo of Iuka; one sister, Marian Brough of Great Bend; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Betty Jacobs and Loretta Morrison; two brothers, Alvin Pedigo and Howard Pedigo; and one sister, Vera Brown. Ernest R. Dietz Sept. 29, 1935. He died Sept. 10, 1982. A longtime resident of the Russell area, she was a homemaker, a cook at Simpson School and Ala Fern Nursing Home and was a custodian at Home State Bank in Russell. Mrs. Dietz was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and Russell Senior Center, both in Russell. Survivors include one son, LaVerne Dietz of Russell; one daughter, Cindy Haselhorst of Gorham; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
