Gary Douglas Gunn 1946-2001
ALLYN, Wash. - Gary Douglas Gunn, 54, died June 28 at his residence in Allyn. He was born June 29, 1946, in Great Bend, the son of Glenn Albert and Louise Brown Gunn. He was a 1964 graduate of Great Bend High School. A resident of Allyn, coming from Lakebay, Wash., he was an insurance and investment salesman. Gunn was a member of the Unity church, Independent Order of Foresters in Utah and Washington, volunteered in the Special Olympics in Utah and a women's crisis shelter in Washington. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Survivors include his mother of Great Bend; and two sisters, Margaret S. Baldwin of Ellinwood and Barbara L. Anderson of Bartlesville, Okla. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Special Olympics or a local crisis center, both in care of Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend. July 3, 2001
Stanley E. Taylor 1944-2001
WELLINGTON - Stanley E. Taylor, 56, died July 1 at Republic County Hospital in Belleville. He was born Nov. 28, 1944, in Hutchinson, the son of Glenn and Helen Holt Taylor. He was a graduate of Nickerson High School and Kansas State University. He married
Victoria Jean Lett Aug. 27, 1966, in Hutchinson. A resident of Wellington, he was a certified public accountant. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Travis Taylor of Newton and Kent Taylor of Wellington; three brothers, Bernard Taylor of Great Bend, Gary Taylor and Ronnie Taylor, both of Greensburg; and one sister, Connie Hartage of Wichita. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Wellington with the Rev. Andrew J. Seiler officiating. Burial will be at Prairie Lawn Cemetery. Evelyn Artis Trimble 1916-2001
PLAINVILLE - Evelyn Artis Trimble, 84, died July 2 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born July 25, 1916, in Salina, the daughter of Irvin Augustus and Mary Ethel Mayer Woerner. She was a 1935 graduate of Trego County High School. She married
Louis Lysle Trimble Aug. 7, 1937, in WaKeeney. He died July 8, 1980. A long time resident of Plainville, coming from Ellinwood, she was a clerk at Welch's Flower Shop in Plainville, clerk at Back's Dry Goods in Ellinwood and nurses' aide at Ellinwood Hospital. Mrs. Trimble was a member of First Baptist Church, church organist for more than 40 years, Garden Club, past worthy matron of OES 479, all of Plainville. Survivors include two daughters, Mildred Burroughs and Mary Loewenthal, both of Ellinwood; one sister, Harriet Lewis of Wichita; one stepbrother, Harold Stone of Wichita; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Ellinwood with the Revs. Andy Wesner and George McGregor officiating. Keith Lumpkins June 1, 1962, in Ellinwood. A resident of McPherson, coming from Great Bend, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Lumpkins was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Ellinwood. Survivors include two sons, Craig Lumpkins and Dale Lumpkins, both of Wichita; two daughters, Robin Butler of Wamego and Renee Lumpkins of McPherson; one brother, Johnnie A. Jones Jr. of San Diego, Calif.; two sisters, Donna Ritz of Parsons and Joyce Hignite of Noel, Mo.; one stepsister, Ejaye Jones of Austin, Texas; and 10 grandchildren. HAVILAND - Viola M. Myers Larkin, 89, died June 30 at Hoisington Rehabilitation Center in Hoisington. She was born Feb. 1, 1912, in rural Driftwood, Okla., the daughter of Oscar T. and Blanche May Myers. She graduated from Driftwood High School and attended Haviland Bible Academy for two years. Everett W. Larkin Nov. 11, 1934. He died March 15, 2001. A resident of Haviland, coming from Driftwood, she was a homemaker and clerk for Willards Variety Store, Coberly's and Duckwalls, all in Greensburg. Mrs. Larkin was a member of Haviland United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Rebekah Lodge, Royal Neighbors and Sunflower Farm Bureau, all of Greensburg. Survivors include one son, Raymond Larkin of Hoisington; one daughter, Nancy Larkin of the home; one sister, Octava Brown of Cherokee, Okla.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Anna Marie Prince; two brothers, John Myers and Paul Myers; and one sister, Geneva Stein. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. LARNED - Edith M. Dewberry, 79, died June 29 at her home in Larned. She was born July 24, 1921, in Ness County, the daughter of Charles W. and Pearlie Reynolds Petersilie. She married

Red E. Dewberry. He died March 24, 1983. A resident of Larned, coming from Pawnee Rock and Topeka, she was a retired head custodian at Pawnee Rock School, USD 495. Mrs. Dewberry was a member of Larned Assembly of God Church. Survivors include three daughters, Linda Lemuz and Dee Blair, both of Larned, and Pat White of Topeka; three brothers, Charles H. Petersilie of La Crosse, Art Petersilie of Lecompton and Ory Petersilie of Otis; four sisters, Dana Rees of Delia, Wanda LaBonte of Colorado Springs, Colo., Arlene Riegle of Wichita and Barbara Schumacher of Great Bend; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Elbert B. Dewberry and David J. Dewberry; one brother, Floyd Petersilie; and one sister, Ida Wenick. Nicholas L. Arends, 83, of Great Bend, died June 28 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born April 8, 1918, at Spearville, the son of Nicholas Sr. and Mamie Laudick Arends. He married
Agnes G. Wendtlandt on Oct. 22, 1940, at Claflin. A resident of Great Bend for the past nine years, coming from Claflin, he was a farmer and worked at Claflin Flour Mill for 15 years, Marlette Mobile Homes of Great Bend for 15 years and was a part-time electrician. Arends was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Claflin and St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church of Great Bend. Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Vincent J. Arends of Laurel, Md., Leonard P. Arends of Tehachapi, Calif., and Thomas J. Arends of Gilroy, Calif.; three daughters, Judith E. Wahaus of Salina, Linda R. Axtell of Mohave Valley, Ariz., and June A. Garrett of Claflin; one sister, Anna Randalph of Lakin; 20 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and four step-great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Nicholas A. Arends and John Arends; one daughter, Mary Arends; one brother, Leo Arends; four sisters, Mary Boles, Margaret Daundivier, Emma Cole and Magdelena Gengo; and one grandson, Vincent J. James Kirk Clinkscales 1920-2001
WICHITA - James Kirk Clinkscales, 80, died June 29 at his home in Niotaze. He was born Oct. 27, 1920, at Providence Forge, Va., the son of Burke and Ruby Brenneman Clinkscales. He was a graduate of Stafford High School and Swallow Aircraft School in Wichita. He married
Donna Heggy in 1940. She died March 16, 1959. He married
Lorieta Wadley in 1960. She died in 1999. A resident of Niotaze since 1999, coming from Wichita, he was a quality assurance controller for Cessna Corporation. Clinkscales was a member of Pilgrim Congregational Church and American Legion, both of Wichita. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include one son, Kirk Clinkscales of Niotaze; two brothers, Hugh Clinkscales of Elizabeth City, N.C., and Lee Clinkscales of Mesa, Ariz.; one sister, Betty Mae Messick of Boulder, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Marla and Charla. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Minnis Chapel in Stafford. Burial will be at Stafford Cemetery. Ralph C. Hullett on Jan. 12, 1942, at Lyons. He died Oct. 30, 1990. A longtime resident of Larned, coming from Ash Valley in 1944, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Hullett was a member of United Methodist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, both of Larned. Survivors include five sons, Kenneth Hullett, Clyde Hullett, Harold Hullett, Edward Hullett, all of Larned, and Larry Hullett of Hoisington; two sisters, Wilma Buller of Edmond Okla., and Louise Johnson of Halstead; one brother, Albert Mornhinweg of Halstead; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, William Henry Hullett; and two great-grandchildren, Summer Ray Owens and Than Ray Mead. Paul H. Wegele 1925-2001
NESS CITY - Paul H. Wegele, 76, died June 28 in an automobile accident near Satanta. He was born Jan. 14, 1925, in Barton County, the son of Jacob and Pauline Bitter Wegele. He was a graduate of Hoisington High School and attended Midland Radio and Television School in Kansas City, Mo. He married
Edna Maier May 7, 1944, in Milberger. A resident of Ness City for 16 years, coming from Ness County, he was an insurance appraiser and adjuster. Wegele was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Bazine, Ness County Hospital Foundation Board of Ness City, La Crosse Veterans of Foreign Wars and past international president of Lutheran Layman's League. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; and two brothers, George Wegele of Hays and Leland Wegele of Otis. He was preceded in death by one brother, Jacob "J" Ernest Wegele. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Randall Jahnke officiating. Burial will be at Bazine cemetery with military graveside rites by Olin Cole American Legion Post 392 of Bazine. Beecher was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Hill City, the rodeo committee, Pioneer Saddle Club and Hill City Elks Lodge. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Jeff Beecher of Baldwin City and Greg Beecher of Soldier; one daughter, Regina Fischer of Nashville; one brother, Clair Beecher of Wichita; one sister, Bonnie Hopson of Houston, Texas; and six grandchildren.
