LARNED - Elva Jean Latas, 76, died July 10 at Healthcare and Living Center in Larned. She was born Nov. 13, 1924, in Pawnee County, the daughter of Preston S. and Lora Hazel Pate Blackburn. She married
Arlie Eugene Latas Dec. 24, 1952, in Syracuse. He died Nov. 8, 1982. A longtime resident of Larned, she was a school teacher in Ness County, Zook, Radium and Pawnee Rock. Mrs. Latas was a member of the Methodist Church in Rozel, Ft. Larned Belles and Tertula Club, both of Larned, and the Retired Teachers Association. Survivors include two nieces, Belva Rosenau of Garden City and Bonnie Gregory of Wichita. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Raymond Blackburn, Joe Blackburn, Wayne Blackburn, Keith Blackburn and Olsa Lee Blackburn. Funeral will be at 10:30 Friday at Morell Funeral Home in Larned with the Rev. Charles Grant officiating. Burial will be at Larned Cemetery. Verle Vincent Gable 1927-2001
EXETER, Mo. - Verle Vincent Gable, 73, died July 10 at his residence in Exeter. He was born Oct. 16, 1927, in Alden, the son of Charles William and Hazel June Partington Gable. He attended school in Alden. He married
Phyllis Roberta Lyon Sept. 16, 1947, in Great Bend. A resident of Exeter, coming from Brenham, Texas, Great Bend, Wichita, Hutchinson, and Eureka, he was superintendent for Petro Lewis Oil Company before retiring in 1984 and worked for Gates Rubber Company. Gable was a member of Exeter First Baptist Church, Pythagoras Masonic Lodge 383 and Celestia Chapter OES 81. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Craig Gable of Fayetteville, N.C.; one daughter, Brenda K. Moore of Barrackville, W.V.; one brother, Harold Gable of Chase; four sisters, Fain Boley of Republic, Mo., Shirlie Bower of Loveland, Colo., Mae Riedel of Bellevue, Wash. and Donna Graves of Shell Knob, Mo.; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dwight Gable and Dean Gable; and two sisters, Joyce White and Gale Austin. Funeral was today at the church. BELPRE - Patsy Ruth Breitenbach, 66, died July 11 at her home in rural Belpre. She was born Feb. 11, 1935, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Blenard and Ione Clark Wilson. She married
Garman Breitenbach June 12, 1954, in Hutchinson. A longtime resident of Belpre, she was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband of the home; three sons, Marjain Breitenbach of Kansas City, Michael Breitenbach of Shawnee Mission, and Charles Breitenbach of Stafford; two daughters, Cheryl Hulsey of Hutchinson and Gayle Berrios of Kansas City, Mo.; three brothers, Blenard C. Wilson of Cleburne, Texas, Charles Wilson of Wichita, and Harry Wilson of Chicago, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Matthew Hulsey. Prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Morell Funeral Home in Larned. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Larned. Burial will be at Belpre Cemetery. Eva Alice Rickenbrode 1908-2001
ROBBINSDALE, Minn. - Eva Alice Rickenbrode, 92, died Feb. 23 at her residence in Robbinsdale. She was born Oct. 6, 1908, in Neodesha, the daughter of Eli Leroy and Cora Alice Field Kelly. She married
Glen Rickenbrode Dec. 5, 1931, in Neodesha. He died August 1984. A resident of Robbinsdale, coming from Bushton were she resided from 1939-1991, she was a retired U.S. Postal worker. Mrs. Rickenbrode was a member of United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Double Seven, all of Bushton. Survivors include one daughter, Phyllis Ann Weinmeister of Minneapolis, Minn.; three grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mayme Louise Chancey and Rosabelle Derr. Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Bushton cemetery with the Rev. Barbara Parker officiating. EL CAJON, Calif. - Robert Lee Underwood, 71, died June 24 in El Cajon. He was born June 26, 1929, in Junction City, the son of E.C. and Josephine Mosby Underwood. He married
Dolly Underwood. A resident of El Cajon, he was a retired Gunnery Sgt. of the U.S. Marine Corps. Underwood was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Lions Club, both of El Cajon. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Lee Underwood Jr. of El Cajon; two daughters, Linda Underwood and Janice Underwood, both of Biloxi, Miss.; three brothers, Bill Underwood and J.D. Underwood, both of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Bruce Brack of Mullinville; four sisters, Sally Basham of Lincoln, Neb., Kay Bredfeldt of Bellevue, Neb., Beverly Nuss of Hays and Lynn Litson of La Crosse; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Michael Underwood; and two sisters, Eleanor Hospodka and Barbara Underwood. LANGLEY - Janice A. Boggess, 80, died July 5. She was born Oct. 15, 1920, in Langley. She was a retired teacher. RUSSELL - Elma I. Brack, 92, died July 8 at Hoisington Rehabilitation Center. She was born Nov. 1, 1908, in southern Russell County, near Milberger, the daughter of David R. and Sarah Schwindt Dumler. She was a graduate of Hoisington High School and attended Fort Hays State College. She married
Samuel Brack April 20, 1930, in Otis. He died Jan. 9, 1972. A lifelong resident of the Milberger area, she was a school teacher, farmer and homemaker. Mrs. Brack was a member of United Emanuel Lutheran Church and ladies circle of the church, both in Milberger. Survivors include two sons, Melvin Brack of Great Bend and LaVern Brack of Escondido, Calif.; one daughter, Isabelle Untereiner of Russell; one brother, William E. Dumler of Denver, Colo.; one sister, Eulalia Titus of Tulsa, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ferdinand Dumler and Albert Dumler; and one sister, Ruth Dietz. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Keith Kreitzer officiating. Burial will be at Fairview cemetery in Galatia. SALINA - E. Albert Graham, 77, died July 7. He was born Jan. 14, 1924, in Sterling. He married
his wife, Marjorie, Jan. 20, 1946, in Salina. He attended Kansas State University and graduated from Valparaiso Technical Institute. A resident of Salina, he was a civil engineering employee for the State of Kansas Department of Transportation. Graham was a member of United Methodist Church of the Cross, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1432, Masonic Lodge 60, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry; Isis Temple, Order of Eastern Star, all of Salina, Central Kansas Amateur Radio Club WOCY and ARRL radio club. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Michael Earl Graham of Truckee, Calif., and Richard D. Graham of Albuquerque, N.M.; one sister, Donna L. Cunningham of Upland, Calif.; and four grandchildren. Funeral will at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park in Salina. Jean Swartz, 86, of Great Bend, died July 5 at her home. She was born May 12, 1915, in Arkansas City, the daughter of Edward Sanford Sr. and Bessie Mildred Williamson Berry. She married
Daniel V. Swartz June 13, 1937, in Arkansas City. He died Aug. 21, 1985. A resident of Great Bend, coming from Fort Scott, she was a teacher and homemaker. Mrs. Swartz was a member of First United Methodist Church, FS Chapter of PEO, United Way board, Great Bend Library board, Council on Aging, Golden Belt Home Health, certified Red Cross Gray Lady, Barton County Historical Society, Barton County Retired Teachers Association, American Association of Retired Persons, Kansas Association for the Visually Impaired, Central Kansas Medical Center Auxiliary and Hospital Board, all of Great Bend. Survivors include two daughters, Karen Stegall of Denver, Colo., and Susan Marie Ragan of Salida, Colo.; one brother, E. Sanford Berry Jr. of Champaign, Ill.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Joel Herbert Berry and Eldon Berry; and one sister, Marianne Garland. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home Chapel in Great Bend with the Rev. Jana Baxter officiating. Inurnment will be at Great Bend cemetery at a later date. Robert L. Coats in 1965 in Omaha, Neb. A resident of Salina, coming from Corning, Ark., she was a homemaker. Mrs. Coats was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Tipton and had been attending Sacred Heart Cathedral in Salina. Survivors include her husband of Doniphan, Mo.; two daughters, Kay Commerford of Salina and Jackie Bailey of Great Bend; one half-sister, Lolita Valenta of Lorraine; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Hake. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lorraine Baptist cemetery in Lorraine, with the Rev. Daniel Scheetz officiating. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. George William Schultz Dec. 1, 1920, in Great Bend. He died July 29, 1981. A lifelong resident of Barton County, she was a homemaker and farmer. Mrs. Schultz was a member of First United Methodist Church, Friendship Sunday school class, Barton County Historical Society, Silver and Gold Club, and volunteered at the Senior Center, all of Great Bend. Survivors include one daughter, Lenora Miller of Great Bend; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Alford Witte and Edwin Witte; and one sister, Sylvia Banks.
