Mable Nettie Haley 1913-2001
DELPHOS - Mable Nettie Haley, 88, died July 23 at Ottawa County Health Center in Minneapolis. She was born Feb. 3, 1913, on a farm southwest of Bohemian Hall, the daughter of Nult and Nettie Kimmerling Marler. She was raised and parented by Ern and Ethel Sidener from the age of 2. She was a graduate of Delphos High School. She married Dale Haley Feb. 3, 1934, in Clay Center. He died Feb. 11, 1980. A resident of Delphos, she was a teacher, farmer and co-owner/operator of Haley's Food Market in Delphos. Mrs. Haley was a member of United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Rebekah Lodge and Delphos Senior Citizens, all of Delphos. Survivors include two sons, Dwight D. Haley of Monahans, Texas, and Paul L. Haley of Delphos; one foster daughter, Pat Hinson of Great Bend; two brothers, Claude Marler of Simpson and Clem Marler of Delphos; five grandchildren; three foster grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and five foster great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Clyde Marler; and one half-sister, Alice Lucas. Services were Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Kelly Sipes officiating. Burial was at Delphos cemetery in Delphos. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of Shields Funeral Home in Minneapolis. July 27, 2001

Isabella M. Koerner 1911-2001
HAYS - Isabella M. Koerner, 90, died July 24 at her home in Hays. She was born March 17, 1911, in Schoenchen, the daughter of Carl and Christina Dreher Dinges. She married James G. Koerner Oct. 4, 1932, in Hays. A resident of Hays, she was a homemaker, Duckwall's employee and cook at St. Joseph Military Academy. Mrs. Koerner was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and Altar Society Christian Mothers, both of Hays. Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, Vernon Koerner and Dale Koerner, both of Hays; one daughter, Jan Girvan of Hays; one brother, Wendelin "Buddy" Dinges of Hays; three sisters, Elizabeth Wolf of Thornton, Colo., Leona Burnett and Henrietta Heiser, both of Great Bend; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, LeRoy Koerner; two brothers, Alex Dinges and Anthony Dinges; and four sisters, Cecilia Schumacher, Serephine Pfeifer, Veronica Koerner and Florentina Rathbun. Altar Society Christian Mothers rosary will be at 4 p.m. today at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hays. Parish vigil service will be at 7 p.m. tonight at the funeral chapel. Funeral will be at 9 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Revs. Don Zimmerman and David Metz officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph cemetery in Hays. Friends may call until 8 tonight and from 8-8:45 a.m. Friday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Hays Medical Center, in care of the funeral home. July 26, 2001

Ricky Dean Gilmore 1959-2001
PAPILLION, Neb. - Ricky Dean Gilmore, 41, died July 23 in Modesto, Calif., as the result of a truck accident. He was born Oct. 1, 1959, in Topeka, the son of Robert R. and Sylvia Tangye Gilmore. He was a 1977 graduate of Chase High School in Chase. He married Ae Hul "Kim" Kim March 3, 1980 in Seoul, South Korea. A resident of Papillion, coming from Council Bluffs, Iowa and Great Bend, he was owner/opeator of R & M Transportation Company in Papillion. Gilmore was a member of LaVista Waterview Golf Course in LaVista, Neb. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Steven Gilmore and Michael Gilmore, both of Papillion; his father of Chase; his mother of Great Bend; one brother, Robert Douglas Gilmore of Omaha, Neb.; one half-brother, Robert Shane Gilmore of Chase; three sisters, Debbie Rash of Hughson, Calif., Barbara Thoren of Hoisington and Sandra Kay Gilmore of Great Bend; and his grandfather, Thornton Sanders of Stockton. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home Chapel in Great Bend, with the Rev. David E. Carlson officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the state developmental center in Beatrice, Neb., in care of the funeral home. July 26, 2001

Edith Abbie Darr Milberger 1910-2001
AUBURN, Wash. - Edith Abbie Darr Milberger, 90, died July 24 at Hallmark Manor in Federal Way, Wash. She was born Sept. 1, 1910, in La Crosse, the daughter of Charles and Abbie Darr. She married Leslie L. Milberger Oct. 16, 1930. He preceded her in death. A longtime resident of Great Bend, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Milberger was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Great Bend. Survivors include two sons, Leslie Roger Milberger of Sacramento, Calif. and Curt Milberger of Auburn, Wash.; two daughters, Judy Sonnenburg of Hot Springs Village, Ark. and Janet Schartz of Irvine, Calif.; two sisters, Edaree Campbell and Sharon Jones; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. she was preceded in death by one son, Douglas Milberger; two brothers, Millard Darr and Ned Darr; and one granddaughter. A private family service has been held. Burial will be at the mausoleum in Great Bend Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the church or donor's choice. July 26, 2001

Gary Douglas Gunn 1945-2001
ALLYN, Wash. - Gary Douglas Gunn, 54, died June 28. Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church in Great Bend, with the Rev. William F. Johnson officiating. Memorials are suggested to the Special Olympics or local crisis center, both in care of Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend. July 26, 2001

Dennis 'Denny' Leo Kern 1935-2001
Dennis "Denny" Leo Kern, left the loving arms of his family at his home on Wednesday, July 25. He was born the son of Leonard M. Kern and Opal Shea-Kern on Nov. 18, 1935. He graduated from Great Bend High School in 1953. Denny was a lifelong resident of Great Bend. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and the American Bowling Congress. He bowled for various leagues at the Walnut Bowl since the early 50's. He owned Denny's Taxi and Delivery Service from 1958-1976 and worked as a salesman thereafter. He sold and repaired Rainbow vacuum cleaners for over 30 years. He married Nancy Pennypacker June 28, 1954, in Wichita; she survives. Other survivors include four daughters and their husbands, Jody and Craig Bucl; Joyce and Melvin Morris; Jeanne Mace; Jann and Jon Hogins, all of McPherson; brother Terry Kern of Great Bend; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the wake service at Great Bend Family Mortuary from 2-8 p.m. Friday. Rosary service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Great Bend Family Mortuary. A private family inurnment was in the Great Bend Cemetery. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or to the Great Bend Cancer Center, both in care of the mortuary. July 26, 2001

Waunita L. Berry 1924-2001
Waunita L. Berry, 77, of Great Bend, died July 24 at her residence. She was born Jan. 8, 1924, in Otis, the daughter of Henry C. and Florence E. Matson Moore. She married James B. Berry Dec. 23, 1961, in Great Bend. A lifelong resident of Great Bend, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Berry was a member of River of Life Church in Great Bend. Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, Willard F. Renfro and Danny F. Renfro, both of Great Bend; one sister, Margerie Myers of Great Bend; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Everett Moore; one sister, Ruth Pohleman; and one grandson, Grant Renfro. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home Chapel in Great Bend with the Rev. David H. LeRoy officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call until 9 tonight, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Golden Belt Home Health and Hospice, in care of the funeral home. July 25, 2001

Evelyn Joyce Greenler Keener 1933-2001
LA CROSSE - Evelyn Joyce Greenler Keener, 67, died July 23 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born Dec. 2, 1933, in Newton, the daughter of the Rev. Albert E. and Edna L. George Greenler. She attended Sterling College in Sterling, Southwestern College in Winfield and Fort Hays State University in Hays. She married George Keener May 5, 1957, in Ness City. A resident of Rush County for 44 years, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Keener was a member of United Methodist Church in La Crosse and Order of the Eastern Star. She was a volunteer in her community and played the organ for the church. Survivors include her husband of the home; three sons, Tom Keener, Jeff Keener and Bob Keener, all of Rush Center; and five grandchildren. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Marilyn Christmore officiating. Burial will be at Rush Center Cemetery. Friends may call until 9 tonight with the family receiving friends from 6-7 p.m. at Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse. Memorials are suggested to Youthville, in care of the funeral home. Douglas D. Wilson 1943-2001
ELLINWOOD - Douglas D. Wilson, 58, died July 24 at his home in Ellinwood. He was born July 3, 1943, in Great Bend, the son of Alva James and Ruby Bryant Wilson. He was a 1961 graduate of Ellinwood High School. He married Joy Axman Jan. 22, 1964, in Olmitz. A lifelong resident of the Ellinwood area, he was a farmer. Survivors include his wife of the home; four daughters, Deanna Hulse and Diana Wilson, both of Great Bend, Tonya Ticel of Ellinwood and Karen Hammersmith of Hutchinson; one sister, Donna Moore of Ellinwood; and four grandchildren. Altar Society rosary will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Kimple Funeral Home in Ellinwood. Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ellinwood with the Rev. David Flagor officiating. Burial will be at Lakin-Comanche District cemetery in Ellinwood. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph's School Endowment, in care of the funeral home. July 25, 2001

William Ward Leggett 1938-2001
LARNED - William Ward Leggett, 63, died July 21 at Hutchinson Hospital in Hutchinson. He was born June 27, 1938, in Fredonia, the son of C. Roscoe "Ross" and Vera Glass Leggett. He was a 1956 graduate of Silver Lake High School in Silver Lake, a 1960 graduate of Baker University and a 1967 graduate of Fort Hays State University. He married Sue Zahn July 19, 1969, in Burdett. A resident of Larned, coming from Mankato, he was a retired superintendent of USD 495. Leggett was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Larned, charter member of Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bennett, Colo., Rotary Club, Lions Club, Phi Beta Kappa and Kiwanis Club. He served as a student pastor in various communities. Survivors include his wife of the home; his mother of Topeka; one son, Lance Leggett of Newton; three daughters, Traci Sievers of Amarillo, Texas, Robin Keilig of Ravenna, Neb., and Dawn Leggett of Larned; one sister, Janet Matinek of Silver Lake; and four grandchildren. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church in Larned with the Rev. John Drosendahl officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date. Friends may call until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned. Memorials are suggested to the William W. Leggett Memorial Fund, in care of the mortuary. July 24, 2001

Zachary C. Rubio 1979-2001
HOISINGTON - Zachary C. Rubio, 21, died July 21 in Russell County as the result of an automobile accident. He was born Aug. 12, 1979, in Great Bend, the son of Martin C. and Linda C. Redetzke Rubio. He was a 1998 graduate of Hoisington High School. A lifelong resident of Hoisington, he was a heating and air-conditioning technician for Stith Company in Newton. Rubio was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hoisington. Survivors include his parents of Hoisington; two brothers, Anthony D. Rubio of Newton and Richard A. Rubio of Littleton, Colo.; and his grandparents, Clarence and Martha Redetzke and Catarino and Mary Rubio, all of Hoisington. Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Pascal Klein officiating. Will E. Rubio 1983-2001
HOISINGTON - Will E. Rubio, 18, died July 21 in Russell County as the result of an automobile accident. He was born Jan. 30, 1983, in Washington, D.C., the son of Willie and Connie Van Tassel Rubio. He was a 2001 graduate of Hoisington High School. A resident of Hoisington, coming from Fort Eustis, Va., he was active in Boy Scouts, wrestling and football. Rubio was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hoisington. Survivors include his mother of the home; one brother, James Rubio of the home; one sister, Erin Rubio of the home; and his grandparents, Catarino and Mary Rubio of Hoisington and Arthur and Laura Van Tassel of Montrose, Pa. He was preceded in death by his father. Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Esther F. Sibert 1924-2001
DERBY - Esther F. Sibert, 77, died July 21 at Westview Manor in Derby. She was born July 6, 1924, in Galatia, the daughter of Philip and Katherine E. Wilhelm Rupp. She married Merle E. Sibert in September 1945, in Lyons. He died Nov. 25, 1971. A resident of Derby, coming from Barton County, she was a retired office manager of Semco Machine Company. Mrs. Sibert was a member of Risen Savior Lutheran Church in Wichita. Survivors include one daughter, Mary Lou Rusco of Wichita; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Rupp and Edward Rupp; and three sisters, Katie Wilson, Rachael Brunk and Leah Delker. Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home Chapel in Great Bend, with the Rev. Thomas Harmon officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church or Westview Manor, both in care of the funeral home.
