Virginia P. Zimmerman 1943-2001
DODGE CITY - Virginia P. Zimmerman, 57, died June 12 at Western Plains Medical Complex at Dodge City. She was born Dec. 20, 1943, in Hoisington, the daughter of Joseph A. and Josephine Pfannestiel Urban. She was a graduate of Hoisington High School and Domincan School of Nursing in Great Bend. She married Larry Zimmerman July 1979, in Great Bend. A resident of Dodge City since 1979, coming from Great Bend, Pratt and Kingman, she was a retired registered nurse at Western Plains Regional Hospital in Dodge City. Mrs. Zimmerman was a member of Worldwide Church of God. Survivors include her husband of the home; three daughters, Julia A. Hanson of Dodge City, Holly D. Rutschman of Greensburg and Robin R. Shay of Dodge City; five brothers, Julius Urban of Hoisington, Melvin Urban of Ellinwood, Ervin Urban of Garden City, Arsenius Urban of Seward and Joe Urban Jr. of Dodge City; six sisters, Lillian Beck of Hoisington, Johanna Brodie of Great Bend, Twilla Kush of Colorado Springs, Colo., Delores Harris, Lorraine Wedman and Alberta Klein, all of Wichita; and six grandchildren. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Christian Church. Burial will be at Maple Grove cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Cancer Center of Kansas. June 13, 2001

Mary Isabel Koontz 1925-2001
STAFFORD - Mary Isabel Koontz, 76, died Saturday near Hutchinson. She was born April 27, 1925, at Stafford, the daughter of Addison and Clara Belle Titus Bartlett. She was a graduate of Stafford High School. She married Walter "Bud" Koontz Jr. July 3, 1946, in Wichita. He died Jan. 25, 1980. A lifetime Stafford resident, she was a child-care provider. Mrs. Koontz was a member of First United Methodist Church, past member of the Rebekah Lodge and past member of the Stafford Country Club Ladies Golf Association. Survivors include one son, Walter "Buddy" Koontz of Sedan; one daughter, Debra Koontz of Casa Grande, Ariz.; and six brothers, Bill Bartlett of Wichita, Brad Bartlett of Topeka, James Bartlett of Ocala, Fla., Benney Bartlett of Apple Valley, Calif., and Glenn Bartlett and Luke Bartlett, both of Denver, Colo.; three granddaughters, and four great-grandchildren. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Minnis Chapel in Stafford with the Rev. Kasey Crosby officiating. Burial will be at Stafford Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Stafford Educational Foundation Playground Fund, in care of the chapel. June 12, 2001

Mildred Irene Durant 1910-2001
ST. JOHN - Mildred Irene Durant, 91, died Sunday at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born Jan. 27, 1910, at St. John, the daughter of Joseph and Sabina McAllister. She married Robert Eugene Durant July 25, 1929, at Iuka. He died in 1973. A resident of Great Bend for 10 years, coming from Radium, she was a homemaker and past cook for Radium schools. Mrs. Durant was a member of First Christian Church in Larned, and CES of St. John. Survivors include four sons, Lawrence Durant of Wellington, Dwyre Durant of Houston, Texas, Herb Durant of Medicine Lodge and Max Durant of Great Bend; one brother, Donald McAllister of St. John; one sister, Bernice Smith of Memphis, Texas; 15 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Frances Dale Durant; one brother, Orville McAllister; and four sisters, Wanita Baker, Euleta Fox, Margaret Savoy and Dorothy Schilling. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Minnis Chapel in St. John, with the Rev. Bill Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Park cemetery in St. John. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. Memorials are suggested to OES or American Cancer Society, both in care of the funeral home. June 12, 2001

Beulah Vienna Alexander 1913-2001
COLDWATER - Beulah Vienna Alexander, 88, died June 9 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. She was born April 17, 1913, in Fowler, the daughter of Clarence E. and Birdie Ann Risley Condra. She was a 1933 graduate of Protection High School. She married J.T. Alexander Feb. 22, 1934, in Protection. He died Jan. 23, 1994. A lifetime resident of Comanche County, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Alexander was a member of United Methodist Church of Coldwater and a long-time leader for Happy Valley 4-H Club. Survivors include two sons, Don Alexander of Coldwater and Jerry Alexander of Hardtner; two daughters, Birdie Kasner of Owasso, Okla., and Lois Mae Wagner of Otis; one brother, Clarence Condra Jr. of Lawrence; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home in Coldwater with the Rev. Kent Little officiating. Burial will be at Fairview cemetery in Greensburg. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Protection Valley Manor in Coldwater, the church or donor's choice, all in care of the funeral home. June 11, 2001

Regina B. Mahony 1909-2001
DORRANCE - Regina B. Mahony, 91, died June 8 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center in Wichita. She was born Aug. 19, 1909, the daughter of Michael and Mary Manns Schwarz. She married Elmo Mahony in 1932 in Wilson. He died in 1979. A resident of Dorrance for most of her life, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Mahony was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Altar Society, CCD, all of Dorrance, Sorosis Club and Friends of Reading, both of Dorrance and Wilson. Survivors include one son, Garry Mahony of Wichita; two daughters, Linda Vopat of Topeka and Jan Hopkins of Rose Hill; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Parish vigil was Sunday at Foster Mortuary in Wilson. Funeral was this morning at the church in Dorrance with the Rev. Jerome Morgan officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery in Dorrance. Memorials are suggested to Wilson Senior Center, in care of the mortuary. June 11, 2001

Mabel Elizabeth Crawford 1909-2001
CHASE - Mabel Elizabeth Crawford, 92, died June 9 at Lyons District Hospital. She was born May 27, 1909, at Spivey, the daughter of Charles and Hannah Jenkins Dinger. A resident of Chase since 1987, coming from Kingman, she was a homemaker. Survivors include one daughter, Margaret Smith of Chase; 10 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Eloise Sue Spriggs. Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Lyons Municipal cemetery with the Rev. William Best officiating. Friends may call from 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons. Memorials are suggested to Sandstone Heights Nursing Home in Little River, in care of the funeral home. June 11, 2001

Lloyd Dean 'Harvey' Boeken 1951-2001
STERLING - Lloyd Dean "Harvey" Boeken, 50, died June 9 at Lyons District Hospital in Lyons. He was born April 25, 1951, in Great Bend, the son of Theodore F. and Hilda Drews Boeken. He married Rebecca Sue Cruth June 26, 1971, in Great Bend. A resident of Sterling since 1974, coming from Claflin, he was a contract pumper and engineer. Boeken was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Sterling. Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Troy D. Boeken, Travas D. Boeken and Tyler D. Boeken, all of Sterling; his mother of Hutchinson; one sister, Linda Specht of Santa Maria, Calif.; and seven grandchildren. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church in Sterling with the Rev. J. Douglas Neumann officiating. Burial will be at Sterling Community cemetery in Sterling. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Tuesday at Sillin Funeral Home in Sterling. Memorials are suggested to Calvary Baptist Church in Sterling or Focus on the Family in Colorado Springs, Colo., in care of the funeral home. June 11, 2001

Brenda Lynn Mason 1968-2001
CANEY - Brenda Lynn Mason, 33, died June 6 at Jane Phillips Hospital in Bartlesville, Okla. She was born May 13, 1968, in Great Bend, the daughter of Ray and Jacque Strong Scheideman. She married John Mason Sept. 19, 1991, in Great Bend. A resident of Caney, she was a social service designee at Manor Nursing Home in Independence. Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Eric Lee Mason, of the home; two daughters, Jade Amelia Mason and Stephanie Dawn Mason, both of the home; her parents of Great Bend; two brothers, Brad Scheideman of Great Bend and Brian Scheideman of Wamego; her grandparents, Bessie Strong and Millie Scheideman, both of Great Bend; and one grandson. Graveside services were Saturday at Bethany cemetery in Perth with the Rev. Diana Hill officiating. Memorials are suggested to a trust fund for the children's education, in care of Elliott-Schaeffer Mortuary in Caldwell. June 11, 2001

Albert Gumbir 1905-2001
Albert Gumbir, 96, of Great Bend, died June 8 at Great Bend. He was born Feb. 7, 1905, at Dittersdorf, Austria, the son of Karl and Anna Frenzel Gumbir. He married Marie Wege Aug. 29, 1933, in Great Bend. She died Dec. 2, 1980. He was a resident of Great Bend since 1922, coming from Odin. Gumbir was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Eagles, Elks, Silver and Gold Club, a charter member of the Hilltop Society Foundation, Barton County Community College Buffalo Club, Barton County Historical Society, Kansas Oil and Gas Museum Foundation, Heartland Center Foundation and the Great Bend Foundation, all of Great Bend. He is survived by nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Carl Gumbir, Edmond Gumbir, Joseph Gumbir and William Gumbir; two sisters, Mary Gumbir and Bernadette Gumbir; and one step-son, Milton Gumbir. Vigil service will be at 7 tonight at Bryant-Christians funeral home. Funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Warren Stecklein officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend cemetery in Great Bend. Friends may call from 1-9 today at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church or We Care, both in care of the funeral home. June 10, 2001

Grace M. Georg 1912-2001
LA CROSSE - Grace M. Georg, 88, died June 7 at Rush County Memorial Hospital. She was born Nov. 3, 1912, at Alexander, the daughter of Nelson Peter and Edna Robbins Olson. She married Fred A. Georg Sept. 5, 1937. He died in 1994. A lifelong resident of Rush County, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Georg was a member of First Lutheran Church of La Crosse, American Lutheran Church Women, past district officer of A.L.C.W., church council, Sunday school teacher, church organist for more than 50 years, church choir director, Alexander Review Club, 4-H sponsor, Rush County Meals on Wheels and nursing home volunteer and a piano teacher for more than 60 years. Survivors include one son, Winston F. Georg of La Crosse; two daughters, Kathlyn M. Lindberg of Lewis and Miriam J. Georg of Arlington, Texas; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Allen Olson, Loyd Olson, Paul Olson and Willard Olson. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the church with the Revs. Maurice Schaus and Patti Waser officiating. Burial will be at La Crosse City cemetery in La Crosse. Friends may call from 3-8:30 today at Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse. Memorials are suggested to the Grace Georg Memorial in care of the funeral home. June 10, 2001

Junior R. Weber 1951-2001
ELLINWOOD - Junior R. Weber, 49, died June 8 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born July 13, 1951, at Kingman, the son of Aloysius and Victoria Henning Weber. A resident of Ellinwood for the past 16 years, coming from Dodge City and Willowdale, he was a self-employed truck driver. Weber was a member of the Catholic faith. He was a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam. Survivors include his mother; Victoria Weber of Macksville; five brothers, William Weber of Pawnee Rock, Tim Weber of Hobart, Okla., Frank Weber of Lyons, Neb., and Jeff Weber and Justin Weber, both of Sawyer; one half brother, Bradley Martin of Pratt; three sisters, Mary Rose Bates of Macksville, Rita Strohl of Cunningham and Ruth Startzman of Sawyer. Rosary will be at 7 tonight at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Willowdale, with the Rev. John Miller officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter's cemetery in Willowdale. Friends may call from 1-9 today at the funeral home and 9:30 a.m. until service time Monday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Woodhaven Care Center for physical therapy equipment or Ellinwood Ambulance Service, both in care of the funeral home. June 10, 2001

Mary E. Whiteside 1906-2001
DODGE CITY - Mary E. Whiteside, 94, died June 9 at Alterra Sterling House in Dodge City. She was born June 13, 1906, in Hodgeman County, the daughter of William G. and Julia Elizabeth Aldrich Billings. She married Walter James Whiteside July 10, 1927, at Pamapa, Texas. He died Jan. 11, 1997. Mrs. Whiteside was a member of United Methodist Church, Victory Sunday School Class of Dodge City, Friendly Neighbor Home Demonstration Unit of Hodgeman County, 4-H leader and Eastern Star, both of Jetmore. Survivors include one son, Kenneth Whiteside of Dodge City; one daughter, Nadine Hales of Wimberley Texas; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Wayne Billings; and five sisters, Caroline Stoecker, Ruth Lee, Sara Colt, Margaret Wilchek and Julia Brown. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Farimount cemetery in Jetmore, with the Rev. Dick Robbin officiating. Burial will follow. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Monday at Beckwith Funeral Home in Jetmore. The casket will remain closed. Memorials are suggested to the church in care of the funeral home. June 10, 2001
