DODGE CITY - Andrew William Stramel, 91, died April 30 at Trinity Manor in Dodge City. He was born Dec. 15, 1909, in Buffalo Park, the son of John L. and Lena Stegman Stramel. He married
Arlie Irene Sorem April 18, 1933, in Nonchalanta. She died Jan. 5, 1999. A resident of Dodge City, coming from Jetmore, he worked at Fairmont Creamery in Dodge City and then built and operated Stramel Grocery Store in Dodge City. Stramel was a member of Sacred Heart Cathedral, Knights of Columbus, Moose Lodge and the Senior Center, all of Dodge City. Survivors include five son, Melvin Stramel of Detroit, Mich., Claire Stramel of Omaha, Neb., Andrew Stramel Jr. of Tampa, Fla., Clyde Stramel of Loveland, Colo., and Kenny Stramel of Lakewood, Colo.; two daughters, Florence Hines of Spearville and Dorothy Gabel of Fowler; two brothers, Ernie Stramel of Wichita and Hilary Stramel of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister, Tillie Robertson of Mason, Ariz.; 26 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Malcolm Stramel, Mike Stramel, Albert Stramel, and Carl Stramel; and five sisters, Louise Stramel, Josephine Stramel, Ida Stramel, Elizabeth Stramel and Katie Stramel. Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the church. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. John Strasser officiating. Burial will be at Fairmount cemetery in Jetmore. HUTCHINSON - Ruth Virginia Clark, 82, died April 30 at Presbyterian Manor in Salina. She was born May 6, 1918, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Eugene Wesley and Linnie Foster Moore. She was a 1937 graduate of Hutchinson High School. She married
Miles John Clark Nov. 21, 1937, in Hutchinson. He died Oct. 15, 1992. A resident of Salina, coming from Great Bend and Hutchinson, she worked for Dillons in Hutchinson and was a homemaker. Mrs. Clark was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Hutchinson. Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Breckon and Ginny Denney, both of Salina; one brother, John Moore of Hutchinson; one sister, Florence Holmes of Hutchinson; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Fairlawn Mausoleum in Hutchinson with the Rev. Kevin Roach officiating. Burial will be at the mausoleum. Lois 'Bonnie' Meitler 1920-2001
ELLSWORTH - Lois "Bonnie" Zachgo Meitler, 80, died April 30 at Ellsworth County Medical Center. She was born June 14, 1920, in Lincoln County. She married
Clarence Meitler. He died in 1970. A lifelong resident of Ellsworth County, she was a homemaker. Survivors include six sons, Dick Meitler of Great Bend, Daryl Meitler of Ulysses, Chuck Meitler of Lockhart, Texas, Dean Meitler and Danny Meitler, both of Plainville, and Don Meitler of Wichita; nine daughters, Judy Werner of Plainville, Alice Oller of Holyrood, Carolyn Gehring of Zurich, Linda Faris of Stockton, Vicki Wiles and Cindy Miller, both of Ellsworth, Debra Iwig of Topeka, Kathy Ashbaugh of Salina and DeAnn Thrun of Wakeeney; three brothers, Wilbert Zachgo and Donald Zachgo, both of Lincoln, and Kenneth Zachgo of Hunter; 47 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by two grandsons, Scott J. Reinert and Larry A. Meitler; and one great-grandson, Larry A. Meitler. Gordon R. Hildebrand 1940-2001
STAFFORD - Gordon R. Hildebrand, 60, died May 1 at his home. He was born Sept. 5, 1940, in Stafford, the son of Herman and Lucile DeWerff Hildebrand. He was a 1958 graduate of Stafford High School and a 1963 graduate of Kansas State University with a degree in agricultural education. He married
Glenda Ragsdale July 2, 1966, in Stafford. A lifelong resident of Stafford, he was a farmer and rancher. Hildebrand was a member, deacon, Sunday school superintendent, trustee and Baptist Youth Fellowship sponsor, all of Calvary Baptist Church, Southwestern Association Youth Camp manager, and eight year member of the USD 349 board of education, all of Stafford. He was a 12-year board member of Zenith Co-op, former Stafford County FHA commissioner, member of the Stafford County extension council, and member of the boards of Southcentral Kansas Farm Management and East Cooper Township. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Joe Hildebrand of Overland Park; two daughters, Kim Paulsen of Stafford and Sara Hildebrand of Sterling; his mother of Stafford; two brothers, Arnold Hildebrand and Norman Hildebrand, both of Stafford; and two grandchildren. Roger Fox Feb. 18, 1951, in Larned. A lifelong resident of Larned, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Fox was a member of United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary, all of Larned. Survived include her husband of the home; two daughters, Sherry Webster and Marsha Erway, both of Larned; three brothers, Robert Fischer of Hutchinson, Rex Fischer of Salina and Lee Fischer of Larned; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. CARTER, Okla. - Eula Estelle Rogers, 105, died April 24 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born Dec. 7, 1895, in Wise County, Texas, the daughter of Harrison and Dora Dover Smith. She married
Thomas Jefferson Rogers Jan. 15, 1915, in Carter. He died in 1982. A resident of Carter, she was a farmer and homemaker. Mrs. Rogers was a member of First Baptist Church of Carter. Survivors include one daughter, Bettie Trotnic of Hoisington; one brother, Ira Smith of Santa Rosa, N.M.; one sister, Roberta Rouse of Lafayette, La.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Bill Rogers; one daughter, Evelyn Lee; and one grandson, Larry Lee. The funeral was held April 28 at the church. She was buried at Carter Cemetery. HUTCHINSON - Leona May Thompson, 98, died June 27 at Hutchinson Hospital. She was born May 23, 1903, in Ames, Oklahoma Territory, the daughter of James Albert and Ella Maude Ballard Bennett. She married
Melvin Erdman Thompson May 17, 1926, in Lyons. He died May 23, 1974. She was a 1923 graduate of Raymond High School and she also graduated from Emporia State Teachers College. A resident of Hutchinson, coming from Raymond, she was a school teacher and assistant postal clerk, all in Raymond. Mrs. Thompson was a member of Raymond First Baptist Church, Queen Esther Chapter of the Eastern Star, and charter member of the Little Arkansas Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Survivors include two daughters, Alberta McKibben of Hutchinson and Colleen Stockstill of Wichita; one stepsister, Ruby Schramling of Enid, Okla.; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Doris Lavon Thompson; one infant sister, Alverda Bennett; and two stepsisters, Ruth Ulrich and Rena Peters. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons with the Rev. Bob Bethell officiating. Burial will be at Raymond Hilltop cemetery in Raymond. DODGE CITY - Roy L. Schoen, 73, died June 27 at his home in Dodge City. He was born April 1, 1928, at the family farm north of Dodge City, the son of Carl and Marie Peterson Schoen. He was a graduate of Dodge City High School and Dodge City Community College. He married
Peggy M. Webb, Oct. 7, 1951, in Hodgeman County. A lifelong resident of the Dodge City area, he was a farmer and rancher. Schoen was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Dodge City, Dodge City Board of Education, Ford County Soil Conservation Board of Supervisors, Greensburg Production Credit Association Board and the District Nine Farm Credit Board of Wichita. He was the recipient of the Outstanding Young Farmer of Kansas Award and the Distinguished Alumnus Award from DCCC, both in 1963. Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Kent Schoen and Rex Schoen, both of Dodge City, and Jeff Schoen of Clearwater; one daughter, Ardis Newton of Lakin; two brothers, Alfred Schoen and Clarence Schoen, both of Dodge City; three sisters, Lola Boger of Dodge City, Etta Stork of Seward, Neb., and Wanda Boger of Las Vegas, Nev.; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Arnold Schoen and Otto Schoen; and two sisters, Corinne Harms and Minnie Schoen. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Edna Maier May 7, 1944, in Milberger. A resident of Ness City, coming from Ness County, he was an insurance appraiser and adjuster. Wegele was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church of Bazine, Veterans of Foreign Wars of La Crosse, board member of Ness County Hospital Foundation and past president of the Lutheran Layman's League. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; two brothers, George Wegele of Hays and Leland Wegele of Otis. He was prededed in death by one brother, Jacob "J" Ernest Wegele. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Randall Jahnke officiating. Myra Esther Morford Aug. 21, 1932, in Garden City. A resident of St. John, he was mechanic and the owner of Alvin's Repair. Morford was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church, OES, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Masonic Lodge past master, and 31-year volunteer fireman and chief, all of St. John, and Shriners of Wichita. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; two grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Harold Richard Morford; one sister, Marie Hayden; and two brothers, Howard Morford and Ralph Morford. Avlena Bunselmeyer Dec. 23, 1946, in Stafford. A resident of Hutchinson, coming from Stafford, he was a retired Southwestern Bell lineman. Heyen was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, receiving the Bronze Star and the Good Conduct medal. Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Barbara Heyen of Hutchinson; and four sisters, Delsa Harmon, Onabel Ragsdale and Verla Mandersheid, all of Stafford, and LaVern McCann of Billings, Mont. He was preceded in death by three brothers, George Heyen, Wesley Heyen and Irvin Heyen; and three sisters, Dora Bunker, Lois Clair and Hazel Green. Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Feldhut cemetery in rural Stafford with presentation of colors by Bravo Company, 116 Infantry, Fort Riley. Charles R. Curtis. A resident of Great Bend, she worked for the Santa Fe Railroad from 1927-1937 in Topeka. Mrs. Curtis was a member of First United Methodist Church and Sigma Beta Phi Sorority, both of Great Bend. Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Samuel D. Harvey of Jacksonville, Fla.; one daughter, Linda L. Boyce of Phoenix; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers; and two sisters.
