Esther Hearn 1915-2001
STAFFORD - Esther Hearn, 85, died April 25 at her home in Stafford. She was born Dec. 10, 1915, in Bedford, the daughter of John and Emma Burhenn Hildebrand. She married Howard Hearn Feb. 12, 1938, in Stafford. He died Oct. 26, 1988. A lifetime resident of Stafford, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Hearn was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Stafford. Survivors include two sons, Merlyn Hearn and Ronald Hearn, both of Stafford; one daughter, Carolyn Reimer of Fowler; one brother, Leo Hildebrand of Tucson, Ariz.; three sisters, Opal Priess of Stafford, Anna Smith of Sterling and Marcille Manwarren of Exitor, Neb.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Donald Hildebrand, Earl Hildebrand, Sam Hildebrand and Clifford Hildebrand. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. David Vetter officiating. Burial will be at Stafford Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Friday at Minnis Chapel in Stafford. Memorials are suggested to the church in care of the chapel. Mary Zajic 1910-2001
HOLYROOD - Mary Zajic, 90, died April 24 at Wilson Nursing Center in Wilson. She was born May 22, 1910, in Barton County, the daughter of Patrick and Minnie Eggers Hogan. She married Rudolph L. Zajic Dec. 24, 1935, in Great Bend. He died May 25, 1953. A lifetime resident of Holyrood, she was a homemaker and clerk at Holyrood Grocery. Mrs. Zajic was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Holyrood. Survivors include one son, Derald Zajic of Holyrood; one brother, LeRoy Hogan of Holyrood; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Marvin Hogan, Harold Hogan and Leo Hogan; and one sister, Myrtle Rose. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Parsons Funeral Home in Ellsworth with the Rev. Mary Lou Klein officiating. Burial will be at Palacky cemetery in rural Holyrood. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to Holyrood Ambulance Service, in care of the funeral home. April 26, 2001

Max P. Horn 1914-2001
RUSSELL - Max P. Horn, 87, died April 24 at Hays Medical Center. He was born April 15, 1914, in Glasco, the son of Fredrick M. and Bertha A. W. Henning Horn. He married Whilmetta M. Dumler Sept. 21, 1947, in Russell. A resident of Russell, he was a president and bank director of Home State Bank. Horn was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Rotary Club, Elks Lodge, Masonic Lodge, Shrine Club, life member of American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War Post, all of Russell. He was also a member of ISIS Shrine and Consistory at Salina, Beta Theata Pi Fraternity at Kansas University and KU Alumni Association. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, William D. Horn of Brookfield, Ill. He was preceded in death by one brother, Karl Horn; and one infant sister. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Henry Hartman officiating. Burial will be at St. John Lutheran cemetery in Russell. Friends may call until 9 tonight at Pohlman's Mortuary in Russell and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the mortuary. Georgia Lea Baird 1938-2001
RUSSELL - Georgia Lea Baird, 62, died April 24 at Russell Regional Hospital in Russell. She was born Sept 14, 1938, in Wichita, the daughter of Robert Leo and Verna June Schwartzentrub Baird. She was a resident of Russell, coming from Parsons. Survivors include her stepmother, Mary Lou Bronson of Pratt; three brothers, Bob Baird and Jim Baird, both of Great Bend, and Gary Baird of Houston, Texas; and five sisters, Eddi Walty of Lake Stevens, Wash., Kay Sisler and Roberta Logan, both of Wichita, Linda Beauchaine of Vallejo, Calif., and Gloria Schroeder of Venice, Fla. She was preceded in death by one brother, Daniel Leo Baird. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at DSNWK Center in Russell with the Rev. Tim Harlin officiating. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kechi cemetery in Kechi. Friends may call until 9 tonight at Pohlman's Mortuary in Russell. Memorials are suggested to DSNWK Center, in care of the mortuary. April 26, 2001

Dora Marie Solomon 1914-2001
RUSH CENTER - Dora Marie Solomon, 86, died April 23 at Via Christie Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus in Wichita. She was born Nov. 5, 1914, in Ness County, the daughter of Jerry Simpson and Estella Zoe Cooley Goatley. She married Francis "Frank" Solomon March 8, 1946. He died Jan. 25, 1976. A lifetime resident of Rush Center, she was an Avon representative. Mrs. Solomon was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Card Club and Coin Club, all of Rush Center. Survivors include three sons, Arlyn Solomon and Dennis Solomon, both of Rush Center, and Jerry Solomon of Great Bend; two daughters, Genita Hughes of La Crosse and Rita Geisler of Gypsum; one brother, Loy Goatley of Headley, Texas; 20 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Cecil Goatley. Funeral will at 10 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church in La Crosse with the Rev. Marilyn Christmore officiating. Burial will be at Rush Center Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Sunday at Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Rush County Senior Center, in care of the funeral home. April 26, 2001

LA CROSSE - Raymond W. Weltmer, died April 25 at Rush County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church in La Crosse. Brandon Lee Phelps 1984-2001
PRATT - Brandon Lee Phelps, 16, died April 24 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He was born July 25, 1984, in Hoisington, the son of Bill and Sharon MaGee of Pratt and Ricky and Kathye Phelps of Great Bend. He attended Pratt High School and was a former student of Berean Christian School in Great Bend and Central Christian School in Hutchinson. A resident of Pratt, coming from Hutchinson, he was a student. Phelps attended Faith Chapel and First Baptist Church Youth Group, both in Pratt. Survivors include his parents; grandparents, James Phelps of Texas, Eunice Lane of Hoisington, Larry Schmidt of Sylvia, Connie McKinzie of Pratt, Charles McGee and Marie McGee, both of Independence, Ray Howland and Neva Howland, both of Beloit; great-grandparents, Edna Parr of Pratt, Emery Schmidt and Virginia Schmidt, both of McPherson, and Loventrice Sutter of Hutchinson; one sister, Amanda Kay Phelps of the home; and two stepbrothers, Devin Ramsey and Keylin Phelps, both of Great Bend. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Pratt with the Rev. Dr. Calvin Moore officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn cemetery in Pratt. Friends may call until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, all at Ayres-Calbeck Mortuary in Pratt. Inez Leota Brown 1905-2001
Inez Leota Brown, 96, of Great Bend, died April 24 at Woodhaven of Ellinwood. She was born Jan. 22, 1905, in Atchison, the daughter of Glen Leon and Sadie Wiggins Stanley. She married Henry Allen Brown Sr. Feb. 3, 1925, in Kansas City. He died Aug. 18, 1965. A resident of Great Bend, coming from Kansas City, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Brown was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Great Bend. Survivors include three sons, Henry Allen Brown Jr. of Kansas City, Mo., Gail E. Brown of Sterling and Stanley E. Brown of Hutchinson; three daughters, Bonnie L. Arnold, Shirley A. Hardesty and Beverly J. Davis, all of Great Bend; one brother, Glen W. Stanley of Texas; one sister, Sara M. Taylor of Overland Park; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Stanley. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Mark Pennington and Milton Raymer officiating. Burial will be at noon Saturday at Memorial Park cemetery in Kansas City, Kan. Friends may call until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, all at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend. Family will greet friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Aura L. Humburg 1902-2001
LA CROSSE - Aura L. Humburg, 99, died April 23 at Rush County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care in La Crosse. She was born April 1, 1902, in Rush County, the daughter of Charles T. and Cora M. Britton Humburg. She was a 1922 graduate of La Crosse High School. A life-long resident of Rush County, she was a school teacher. Miss Humburg was a member of United Methodist Church of Bison. Survivors include one sister, Leona Evans of Gunnison, Colo. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell Humburg and Lawrence Humburg; and one sister, Helen Hatton. Prayer service will be at 7 tonight at Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Marilyn Christmore officiating. Burial will be at La Crosse City Cemetery. Friends may call until 9 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Bison Library, in care of the funeral home. April 25, 2001

Mollie Helen Lovell 1918-2001
Mollie Helen Lovell, 83, of Great Bend, died April 22 at Integrated Health Services in Great Bend. She was born April 13, 1918, in Hudson, the daughter of Wade Horace and Julia Ann Clarke. She married W. W. "Jay" Lovell Sept. 27, 1941, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He died July 25, 1998. A resident of Great Bend, coming from Ellinwood, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Lovell was a member of First Church of God and the Ladies Missionary Group, both of Great Bend. Survivors include two daughters, Evelyn Joan Tallman of San Jose, Calif., and Lilly Quirk of Arvada, Colo.; two brothers, Fred Clarke of Morena, Calif., and David Clarke of Ellinwood; seven grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Elaine Libby; and three sisters, Alma Clarke, Dora Delker and Ollie Pickerill. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Richard Ogle officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Park cemetery in St. John. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church. Enola I. Logan 1904-2001
HOISINGTON - Enola I. Logan, 96, died April 23 at the Hoisington Rehabilitation Center. She was born Aug. 15, 1904, in Hoisington, the daughter of Delmar M. and Elsina Snodgrass. She married J. Wylie Logan Aug. 23, 1931, in Hoisington. He died July 23, 1993. A lifetime resident of Hoisington, she was a school teacher for the Hoisington school district. Mrs. Logan was a member of First Christian Church, Order of the Eastern Star and Past Worthy Matron Una Chapter 119, all of Hoisington. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington with the Rev. Paula Bell officiating. Burial will be at Hoisington Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Edward D. Kroesch Scholarship Fund or Clara Barton Hospital Foundation, both in care of the funeral home. April 25, 2001

Gerald F. Tauscher 1931-2001
HOISINGTON - Gerald F. Tauscher, 69, died April 21 at his home as a result of the Hoisington tornado. He was born Sept. 28, 1931, in Schoenchen, the son of John A. and Rosella Wasinger Tauscher. He married Joyce Neill April 4, 1959, in Hoisington. A longtime resident of Hoisington, he was a retired owner of Hoisington Auto Body Repair. Tauscher was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hoisington. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Anthony Tauscher of Suffolk, Va.; two daughters, Janet Tauscher of Lenexa and Patti Motes of Thornton, Colo.; five brothers, Eldon Tauscher of Larned, Ernie Tauscher and Kenneth Tauscher, both of Arkansas City, Harold Tauscher of Chicago, Ill., and Ronald Tauscher of Hoisington; one sister, Henrietta Farmer of Hoisington; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Arthur Lee Tauscher; and one sister, Bernice Reidl. Vigil service will be at 7 tonight at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Pascal Klein officiating. Burial will be at St. John cemetery in Hoisington. Visitation will be until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. until service time, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice, in care of the funeral home. April 24, 2001

Roy Neil Delp Jr. 1931-2001
BURDETT - Roy Neil Delp Jr., 69, died April 22 at his home. He was born June 25, 1931, the son of Roy Neil and Ivah Ellen Paris Delp. He married Colleen Collins March 12, 1950, in Sun City. A lifetime resident of Burdett, he was a farmer. Delp was a member of Burdett Lumber Company Bowling Team, Lions Club and past city councilman, all of Burdett. He was also a member of the Republican Party. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Bryan Delp of Wichita; one daughter, Charisse Beadles of Wellington; one sister, Maxine Gheen of Nixa. Mo.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one sister, Jeanine Carrell. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned with the family officiating. Burial will be at Browns Grove cemetery in Burdett. Friends may call until service time today at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to Burdett Emergency Medical Service, in care of the mortuary. April 24, 2001
