STAFFORD - Gertrude Piepmeier Reed, 90, died Feb. 9 at Somerset Health Center, Claridge Court in Prairie Village. She was born July 18, 1910, in Stafford, the daughter of William Thomas and Anna Gerdes Vice. She married
Milton J. Piepmeier June 23, 1930, in Stafford. He died Oct. 12, 1963. She married
Glenn E. Reed Oct. 28, 1971, in Hutchinson. He died March 25, 1993. A resident of Stafford, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Reed was a member of First United Methodist Church, P.E.O Chapter BK and North Star Community Club, all of Stafford, and a life member of the Women's Society of Christian Service. Survivors include three daughters, Kathryn Stoops of Flagstaff, Ariz., Carol Piepmeier of Overland Park and Arlene Finney of Shawnee; two stepsons, Raymond Reed of Arvada, Colo., and Ronald Reed of Lubbock, Texas; six grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and 13 stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Eldon Vice; and three sisters, Aletha Smith, Bernita Reed and Wilma Jeane Hildebrand. Funeral will be at 2 today at Minnis Chapel in Stafford with the Rev. Frieda Brack 1909-2001
OTIS - Frieda Brack, 91, died Feb. 11 at Integrated Health Services in Great Bend. She was born Sept. 17, 1909, in Bison, the daughter of Phillip and Mary Stang Kaiser. She married
Lester A. Brack . He died Dec. 7, 1990. A resident of Otis, she was a farmwife. Mrs. Brack was a member of United Methodist Church in Otis. Survivors include one son, Dennis P. Brack of Santa Ana, Calif.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter; four brothers; four sisters; and one grandson, Michael M. Brack. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church in Otis with the Rev. Kathy Bannister officiating. Burial will be at the Methodist cemetery in Otis. MACKSVILLE - Courtney Lee Smith, 64, died Feb. 10 at Via Christi-St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita. He was born May 26, 1936, in Trousdale, the son of Alves B. and Eva Smith. He was a 1954 graduate of Trousdale High School. He married
Nancy J. Smith Aug. 26, 1957, in Mayville, N.D. A resident of Macksville, he was a route fieldman for Panhandle Eastern Oil Pipeline Company. Smith was a member of Masonic Lodge in North Dakota. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving in the Korean War. Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Kelly Schnable of Hugoton and Kimberly Nave of Lakin; five brothers, John Smith of Neodesha, Daniel Smith of Mulvane, James Smith of Woodward, Okla., Larry Hinderliter of Great Bend and Thomas Hinderlighter of Lyons; one sister, Charlotte Pickering of Kinsley; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Patsy Simms. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Macksville Christian Church in Macksville with the Rev. Carey Haner officiating. The body was cremated. Ruby V. Neptune 1914-2001
CONCORDIA - Ruby V. Neptune, 86, died Feb. 10 at Cloud County Health Center in Concordia. She was born May 20, 1914, at Huscher, the daughter of Roy and Beulah Grout Revell. She was a 1932 graduate of Concordia High School. She married
Floyd E. Neptune March 11, 1932, in Concordia. A lifetime resident of Concordia, she worked in the pharmacy of the former Gelvin-Haughey Medical Clinic in Concordia and as site manager for Concordia Senior Citizens Center. Mrs. Neptune was a member of First Christian Church, Senior Citizens Center of Concordia and AARP. Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Steven Neptune of Great Bend; one daughter, Eva Riggs of Fosston, Minn.; one brother, Harold Revell of Emporia; one sister, Elma Trost of Concordia; three half-brothers, Alvin Revell of Navarri, Fla., Gerald Revell of Wyoming and Leroy Revell of Oswego; two half-sisters, Marilyn McGlasson of Harveyville and Vera Hubbard of Parsons; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilbur Revell and Chester Revell; one sister, Dorothy Cibes; and one stepsister, Thelma Tate. Funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. John States officiating. Burial will be at Nelson cemetery in Huscher. WORCESTER, Mass. - Rose L. Herrman Johnson, 74, died Feb. 8 at University of Massachusetts Memorial Hospital in Worcester. She was born May 18, 1926, in Liebenthal, the daughter of Leo and Rosalia Legleiter Herrman. She married
John J. Kelleher in 1945 at Worcester. He died in 1963. She married
Calvin Johnson in 1968. He died Sept. 9, 1998. A resident of Worcester, coming from Kansas, she was a retired licensed practical nurse. Survivors include one son, Dan Kelleher of Worcester; one sister, Florine Daubert of Great Bend; one stepbrother; four stepsisters; four grandchildren; several stepchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several stepgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Jerome Herrman, Julius Herrman and Gilbert Herrman; and her twin sister, Mary Hooper. Funeral Mass was today at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Worcester. Burial was at St. John's cemetery in Worcester. Athy Memorial Home in Worcester was in charge of funeral arrangements. Feb. 23, 2001

LA CROSSE - Bertha Randa, 90, died Feb. 8 at Rush County Memorial Hospital in La Crosse. She was born Jan. 25, 1911, in Rush County, the daughter of Lorenz and Katherine Legleiter Kuhn. She married
Chris Randa Feb. 29, 1929, in Liebenthal. He preceded her in death. A lifetime resident of Rush County, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Randa was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and St. Joseph's Altar Society, both of Liebenthal. Survivors include one daughter, Lillian Draney of Great Bend; two brothers, Adolph Kuhn of Manteca, Calif., and Harry Kuhn of Carson City, Nev.; one sister, Regina Schmidt of Brighton, Colo.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Berthold Kuhn, William Kuhn, Felix Kuhn, Ben Kuhn and Mike Kuhn; and one sister, Minnie Herrman. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse, followed by an Altar Society rosary at 7:30 p.m. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. ELLIS - Barbara Depperschmidt, 96, died Feb. 8 at Ellis Good Samaritan Center. She was born March 25, 1904, in Mariental, Russia, the daughter of Alex and Katie Herrman Obholz. She married
Joseph Depperschmidt May 19, 1924, in Liebenthal. He preceded her in death. A resident of the Liebenthal and La Crosse area for 69 years, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Depperschmidt was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in La Crosse. Survivors include one son, Leo Depperschmidt of Garden City; four daughters, Lillian Dinges and Edna Augustine, both of Ellis, Dorothy Bittel and Angela Bittel, both of La Crosse; 29 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four sons, Alex Depperschmidt, Clarence Depperschmidt, Otto Depperschmidt and Joseph Depperschmidt; and three daughters, Helen McLaughlin, Mary Ann Brandt and Frances Depperschmidt. Gerald D. Love, 75, died Feb. 8 at Integrated Health Services of Woodhaven in Ellinwood. He was born March 29, 1925, in Cromwell, Okla., the son of Forest and Bertie Bryer Love. A resident of Great Bend, coming from Dimmitt, Texas, he was a plumber. Love was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend. Survivors include two sons, Rodger D. Love and Jack E. Love, both of Great Bend; one daughter, Bonnie L. Love of Great Bend; two brothers, Alvie Love of Boise City, Okla., and Elmer Love of Amarillo, Texas; one stepbrother, Ronnie Campbell of Ellendale, N.D.; one half-sister, Janet Langane of Dimmitt; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Angel Dy officiating. BLUE RAPIDS - G. Harold Borck, 85, died Feb. 9 at his home in Blue Rapids. He was born Nov. 12, 1915, at Blue Rapids, the son of George R. and Lulu B. Burnett Borck. He married
Marjorie G. Yungeberg Dec. 24, 1943, at Irving. A resident of the Blue Rapids area, he was a farmer and stockman. Borck was a member of Blue Rapids United Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder and trustee; a 60-year member of the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star in Blue Rapids and was active for several years on the Blue Rapids Housing Authority. He was also a member of the Kansas Livestock Association and a member of the Kansas State University President's Club. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons and their wives, Lee and Kathy Borck and Fred and Sherry Borck, all of Manhattan, and two grandchildren and their spouses, Debi and Doug Bazzel, and Bailey and Raquel Borck. He was preceded in death by an infant sister and by a granddaughter, Tami Borck. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, south of Blue Rapids. A Great Bend resident, coming from Amarillo, Texas, in 1965, he was a retired vice president of Parts Inc. and a former employee at Waters True Value Hardware, both of Great Bend. Rainbolt was a member of Grace Community Church in Great Bend. Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Cecil L. Rainbolt of Larned, Clyde G. Rainbolt of Rio Rancho, N.M., and Craig L. Rainbolt of Flagstaff, Ariz.; four daughters, Cathi A. Clapham of Dallas, Texas, Cynthia M. White and Carolyn K. Mikesell, both of Great Bend, and Cheryl L. Hickel of Claflin; one brother, Henry Lee Rainbolt, of Paradise, Calif,; 13 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild. Dorothy F. Wiseman Nov. 27, 1946, in Oswego. A resident of Larned since 1972, coming from Ellis, he was a retired Rainbo Bread Route man for Betts Baking Company for 27 years. Edmonds was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars, both of Larned. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Survivors include one son, Timothy R. Edmonds of Ellis; three daughters, Joyce L. Henderson, Sandi L. Edmonds, both of Larned, and Mary Von Feldt of Wamego; his mother of Oswego; one brother, Bob Edmonds of Oswego; one sister, Shirley Sevart of Wichita; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one brother, Junior Edmonds and one grandson, Jeremy. Vigil service will be at 7 tonight at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned. Ethelynn Elmquist. She died in 1973. He married
Carol Cochrun Elmquist in Luray. A resident of Luray since 1995, coming from Lindsborg, he was a retired newspaper editor and master cabinet maker. Elmquist was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church of Lindsborg, Lindsborg Masonic Lodge, life member of the Russell Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Hoisington American Legion. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Gary Elmquist of Osawatomie and Larry Elmquist of Lindsborg; one daughter, Lauran Lofgren of Wayne, Neb.; three stepdaughters, Brenda Mullender of Waldo, Donna Cole of Lindsborg and Elizabeth Whitson of Smithson, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one stepson, James Berryhill. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Luray United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gay Robertson officiating. OMAHA, Neb. - Kenneth D. Herbel, 63, died Feb. 6 at his home in Omaha. He was born on April 7, 1937, in Russell County, the son of Henry and Hulda Dick Herbel. A resident of Omaha, Neb., he was a laborer. Herbel was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
