Herbert 'Herb' Boxberger 1920-2001
HOISINGTON - Herbert "Herb" Boxberger, 80, died Jan. 25 at his residence in Hoisington. He was born Aug. 30, 1920, near Galatia, the son of J. George and Anna Elizabeth Herman Boxberger. He married
Doris DeWald Oct. 24, 1948, in Hoisington. A resident of Hoisington for 52 years, he was a farmer, driller and tool pusher for Dunne Gardner of Wichita. Boxberger was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7428, both of Hoisington. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Doug Boxberger of Hoisington; one daughter, Debbie Reif of Hoisington; one sister, Esther Schneider of Great Bend; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Reuben Boxberger, Fred Boxberger, Harvey Boxberger and Jacob Boxberger; and two sisters, Lydia Tittel and Elsie Nuss. Prayer service will be at 7 tonight at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the church in Hoisington with the Rev. Kelly Taylor-Schaus officiating. Burial will be at Hoisington cemetery with military graveside rites. Cleo Allen 1949-2001
Cleo Allen, 51, died Jan. 19 at her home in Great Bend. She was born April 16, 1949, in Falls City, Neb., the daughter of Benjamin Harrison and Cecelia Elizabeth Allen. A resident of Great Bend for eight years, coming from Wichita, she was a secretery for North American Drilling and a eight-year employee with Coastal Mart in Wichita. Survivors include one daughter, Tia Hatten of Dundee; two sisters, Juanita Miles and Edna Colliers, both of Lincoln, Neb.; and one grandchild. Margaret Tauscher 1905-2001
HOISINGTON - Margaret Tauscher, 95, died Jan. 23 at Hoisington Rehabilitation Center. She was born Oct. 2, 1905, in Marienthal, the daughter of Nicholas and Elizabeth Biel Ernst. She married
George Tauscher Oct. 30, 1923, in Schoenchen. He died April 1, 1994. A resident of Hoisington for 67 years, coming from Schoenchen, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Tauscher was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and the Altar Society, both of Hoisington. Survivors include four daughters, Edna Mills and Delores Reif, both of Hoisington, Virginia Boomhower of Russell and Diane Winsky of Ottawa; two sisters, Ann Elstun of Hutchinson and Helen Hardten of Claflin; 19 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Levorne Tauscher; two daughters, Alice Hickel and Lanettia McBride; five brothers, Pete Ernst, Tony Ernst, John Ernst, Nick Ernst and Joe Ernst; and sisters, Frances Murphy, Mary Dreiling, and three siblings. Funeral was 10:30 today at the church with the Rev. Pascal Klein officiating. Burial will be at St. John Church cemetery in Hoisington. Melvin John Petz 1917-2001
LEAWOOD - Melvin John Petz, 83, died at St. Joseph Health Center in Kansas City, Mo. He was born May 14, 1917, in Ellinwood, the son of Richard and Mary Weisenberg Petz. He married
Elva Nairn Oct. 12, 1937, in Ellinwood. A resident of Leawood for seven years, coming from Great Bend, he was a bulk oil agent for Sinclair Oil. Petz was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, both of Great Bend. Survivors include his wife of the home; four daughters, Karen McCosh of Hillsdale, Mich., Patricia Guesnier and Beverly Bruntz, both of Overland Park and Lynette Saunders of Austin, Texas; and two brothers, Jerry Petz of Colwich and Allen Petz of La Crosse; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Clarence Petz, Leo Petz, Richard Petz and Norman Petz. Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Friday, followed by Knights of Columbus Rosary, both at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. HESSTON - Mildred Hazel Boldt, 86, died Jan. 24 at Schowalter Villa in Hesston. She was born Nov. 29, 1914, in Strawn, the daughter of Clarence and Deliah Herr Dailey. She graduated from Greeley High School. She married
Harold Leroy Boldt June 24, 1934, in Lindsborg. He died Aug. 16, 1998. A resident of Hesston since 1998, coming from rural Chase, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Boldt was a member of First Church of Nazarene in Great Bend, a former member of First Church of Nazarene in Chase and E.H.U. of Lyons. She was a 4-H sewing teacher for Rice County 4-H. Survivors include two sons, Derald Boldt of Chase and Kennard Boldt of McPherson; three daughters, Darleen Jamison of Flagstaff, Ariz., Sharon Malone of Wichita and Annette Elder of McPherson; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, LaVonne Boldt; two brothers, Paul Dailey and Maurice Dailey; and two sisters, Violet Stephenson and Dorothy Austin. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the church in Great Bend with the Rev. Mark Pennington officiating. Burial will be at the Salem cemetery in Bushton. Byron J. Carter Sept. 19, 1944, in Claflin. He died May 2, 1991. A resident of Great Bend since 1955, coming from Stafford, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Carter was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend. Survivors include one son, William Byron Carter of Fall River, Mass.; three daughters, Shirley Ann Robinson and Karen Kay Milberger, both of Wichita, and Ruth Marilyn Jaro of Fort Scott; one sister, Hilda Boeken of Great Bend; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Herman Drews; and three sisters, Martha Schepmann, Lily Lathrop and Esther Schepmann. Catterfeld of Gardner; three daughters, Shawn Smith of Pawnee Rock, Shannon Rogers of Logansport, Ind., and Wendy Herrman of Great Bend; one stepson, Tyler Swank of Albert; two stepdaughters, Lacy Welch of Albert and Melissa Evans of Hutchinson; one sister, Jean Potter of Westland, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren. Berna Dean Brooks March 5, 1985, in Las Vegas, Nev. A resident of Hutchinson for 35 years, coming from Great Bend, he was the former owner of B and K Body Shop. Survivors include his wife of the home; his mother of Honolulu, Hawaii; and one sister, Mary Flores of Honolulu. He was preceded in death by one brother, Richard "Red" Boyd. Blanche Eleanor Petracek Maggard 1918-2001
LA CROSSE - Blanche Eleanor Petracek Maggard, 82, died Jan. 19 at her daughter's home near Hutchinson from heart failure. She was born April 13, 1918, in Jennings, the daughter of Frank and Rosa Cilek Petracek. She graduated from Jennings High School in 1935. She attended Strickler's Business School in Topeka and attended Kansas State University. She married
Lloyd O. Maggard June 21, 1942, in Jennings. He died May 28, 2000. A resident of La Crosse, she established Rush County Locker Service with her husband in La Crosse, worked in the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service office in Rush County and served as a secretary at La Crosse Grade School. Mrs. Maggard was a member of First Christian Church in La Crosse. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, and volunteered in Second Chance Thrift Store, Meals on Wheels, the local food bank and youth organizations. Survivors include one son, Roger Maggard of Anchorage, Alaska; two daughters, Linda Conrad of Hutchinson and Carol Garbacik of Philomath, Ore.; one sister, Mildred Harper Wolfe of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by seven brothers, Herbert Petracek, Stanley Petracek, Julius Petracek, Harry Petracek, Frank Petracek, Rudolph Petracek and Alfred Petracek; and three sisters, Nettie Skubal, Ruth Tacha Wade and Sylvia Peters. Sterba of Wichita and Grady Sterba of Great Bend; two daughters, Lori Sterba and Lisa Sterba, both of Great Bend; one brother, Daryl Sterba of Clifton; two sisters, Lois Richert and Marcine Sterba, both of Clifton; and four grandchildren. James R. "Jimmy" Godfrey July 16, 1934, in Great Bend. A resident of Great Bend since 1943, coming from Hutchinson and Russell, she was a retired teacher's aide for the handicapped at Washington School. Mrs. Godfrey was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and Altar Society, both in Great Bend. Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, James "Dick" Godfrey of Salina; two daughters, Patricia Ann Horn of Polo, Mo., and Jean Wegner of St. Charles, Mo.; one brother, Jake Gabel Jr. of Casper, Wyo.; four sisters, Mary Frances Gabel of Wichita, Pauline Leiker of Wichita, Rose Melcher of Los Angeles, Calif., and Odella Gardner of Casper; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
