PARADISE - Opal G. Cronn, 88, died Dec. 6 at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. She was born Feb. 23, 1912, in Luray, the daughter of Alex and Mary Edna Pattin Whitman. She married
George Cronn Nov. 25, 1928, in Russell. A resident of Paradise, she was a homemaker and postal assistant for 25 years. Mrs. Cronn was a member of Paradise United Methodist Church. Survivors include one son, Duane Cronn of Paradise; one daughter, Loretta Baum of Hoisington; one brother, Elbert "Spud" Whitman of Paradise; one sister, Florence McCurry of Liberal; 12 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; and 10 step-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Leota Harrall and Shirley Nelson; two grandchildren, Leota Hekele and Curtis Nelson; and three brothers, Henry Whitman, Charley Whitman and Fred Whitman. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Pohlman's Memorial Chapel in Russell with the Rev. Don Fisher officiating. Burial will be at Mount Herman cemetery in Paradise. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to service time Saturday at the mortuary. Konrad Herschel Benford 1926-2000
PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - Konrad Hershel Benford, 73, died Nov. 8 at his home in Palm Springs. He was born Dec. 22, 1926, in St. John. He married
Lorraine Doris Hess. She died May 9, 1999. He was a graduate of St. John High School and the University of Chicago with a PhD in liberal arts and a bachelor of science degree in physics. A resident of Palm Springs for 40 years, he was an electronic designer. Survivors include his aunt, Melba Bigham of Derby. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Fairview Park in St. John with the Rev. PUEBLO, Colo. - Myrtle Russell, 84, died Nov. 29 in Pueblo. She was born March 1, 1916, in Anderson County, the daughter of Samuel C. and Helen Mae Crawford Holmes. She married
Harry Russell Dec. 26, 1939, in Garnett. He preceded her in death. A resident of Pueblo, she was a homemaker. Survivors include two sons, Harry Owen Russell of Pueblo and Robert E. HUDSON - Leo Wayne Setser, 88, died Dec. 4 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born May 9, 1912, at Sulpher Springs, Ark., the son of Todd and Veda Gatton Setser. He married
Velma Hewitt April 22, 1934, in Stafford County. A resident of rural Hudson since 1930, he was a farmer, stockman and clerk of Byron Township for 38 years. Setser was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Don Setser of Manhattan; one daughter, Vivian Evers of Loveland, Colo.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Alvin Ray Setser; two brothers, Woodrow Setser and James Setser; two sisters, Buelah Loughry and Mary Skaggs. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Minnis Chapel in Stafford. Burial will be at the Stafford Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. today at the chapel. David M. Schober Aug. 19, 1932, in Hutchinson. He died Jan. 22, 1994. A resident of Great Bend, she was a retired school teacher. Mrs. Schober was a member of First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, local, state and national teachers associations, Silver and Gold Club, Barton County Historical Society and Golden Belt Gem and Mineral Society. Survivors include one son, Robert L. Schober of Wichita; one sister, Helen Pember of Ness City; two step-brothers, Earl Schwartzkopf of WaKeeney and D.B. Schwartzkopf of Ulysses; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and five step-great-great-grandchildren. Survivors include three brothers, Paul Zamarripa of Great Bend, Richard Joel Zamarripa of Lansing and Steve Zamarripa of Duncan, Okla.; eight sisters, Carmen Skelly of Tulsa, Okla., Mary Ingram, Josie Morrison, Isabel Earegood, Angie Ingram and Vivian Bahr, all of Great Bend, Rose Sands of Dodge City and Rebecca Morrison of Hutchinson. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Pantaleon Zamarripa, Richard Zamarripa, Pete Zamarripa and Frank Zamarripa. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Bryant-Christians Chapel in Great Bend with the Rev. Dick Ogle officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Survivors include his wife of the home; three brothers, Edward Betz of El Dorado, Don Betz of Jetmore and Merle Betz of Liberal; three sisters, Marthella Stegman and Marjory Thomas, both of Loveland, Colo., and Marcheta Hogsett of Ness City. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Bazine Cemetery, with the Rev. Bill Anderson officiating and military graveside rites by American Legion Post 392.
