Vera M. Hohl Sharp 1908-2000
BUSHTON - Vera M. Hohl Sharp, 92, died Dec. 13 at Saline Evangelical Home
in Saline, Mich. She was born July 13, 1908, in Bushton, the daughter of
Henry Clay and Albertina Bredfeldt Hohl. She married
Irvin L. "Doc" Sharp
Aug. 30, 1942, in Dodge City. He died Aug. 7, 1992. A resident of Ann
Arbor, Mich., since 1986, coming from Salt Lake City, Utah, and Bushton,
she was a clerk for ladies clothing.
Mrs. Sharp was a member of West Side United Methodist Church of Ann Arbor.
Survivors include one step-daughter, Reta Jean Landcaster of Ann Arbor; and
three step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ervin
Hohl and Lawrence Hohl.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in
Hoisington with the Rev. Barbara Parker officiating. Burial will be at
Bushton Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to service time Monday at
the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to United Methodist Church or

Glee Starr Bloomer 1903-2000
CLAFLIN - Glee Starr Bloomer, 97, died Dec. 16 in Oklahoma City, Okla. She
was born May 22, 1903, in Great Bend, the daughter of Henry and Nellie
Anthony Starr. She was a 1925 graduate of University of Kansas. She married
Arthur Bloomer. He preceded her in death. A resident of Edmond, Okla.,
coming from Sun City, Ariz., and Claflin, she had taught for two years at
Haddam.
Survivors include one niece, Betty Bloomer Bradley of Oklahoma City; two
great-nephews; and two great-nieces. She was preceded in death by one
sister, Evelyn Starr Bloomer.
Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anns Home Chapel in
Oklahoma City. Burial will be at Claflin Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,
memorials are suggested to Mercy Hospice, Mercy Health Center, 4300 W.
Memorial Road, Oklahoma City, OK 73120, or to donor's choice. Smith and

Francisco Joaquin Garcia 1997-2000
SALINA - Francisco Joaquin Garcia, 3, died Dec. 13 in Salina. He was born
Oct. 17, 1997, in Salina, the son of Paul and Twilia Garcia. He was a
lifetime resident of Salina.
Survivors include his father of Great Bend; his mother of Salina; brother,
Roque Garcia of Salina; his grandparents, Fred Hutt of Salina, Denise
Phlosia of La Crosse; and Joaquin Garcia and Carlota Franco of Djinago,
Mexico.
Chapel Conclusion Service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Ryan Mortuary in
Salina with the Rev. Francisco Montoya officiating. Burial will be at Mt.
Calvary cemetery in Salina. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Sunday and from

Bruce B. Peil 1930-2000
MANHATTAN - Bruce B. Peil, 70, died Dec. 13 at Shawnee Mission Medical
Center in Shawnee. He was born Aug. 9, 1930, in Gothenburg, Neb., the son
of Jacob and Edith Ackerman Peil. He was a graduate of Blue Hill High
School in Blue Hill, Neb., and attended the University of Nebraska. He
married Wilma A. Fabrizius Sept. 5, 1954, in WaKeeney. A resident of
Manhattan, he was a lineman for several rural Electric Cooperatives and
taught electric power and the distribution program at Manhattan Area
Technical College.
Peil was a member of First Lutheran Church, American Legion and a former
council member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Great Bend. He was a U.S.
Army veteran of World War II, serving in the signal corp in Germany.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Brian Peil of Manhattan;
three daughters, Roberta Johnson of Manhattan, Susan Dringenberg of Parsons
and Margaret Peil of Overland Park; four brothers, Glen Peil of Colorado
Springs, Colo., Wayne Peil of Roeland Park, Ken Peil of Ayr, Neb., and Fred
Peil of Blue Hill; one sister, Mary Stanfill of El Cajon, Calif.; and 10
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Keith Wiens
officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Valley cemetery in Manhattan. The
family will receive friends from 7-8 tonight at Yorgenson-Meloan-Londeen
Funeral Home in Manhattan. Memorials are suggested to the Bruce Peil

Doris Ellen Mai 1942-2000
Doris Ellen Mai, 58, died Dec. 13 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center,
St. Francis Campus in Wichita. She was born May 5, 1942, in Roxbury, Mass.,
the daughter of William and Laura Horton McCormick. She married
Elwood T.
Mai Aug. 19, 1974, in Key West, Fla. She was a resident of Great Bend since
1993, coming from Salina.
Mrs. Mai was a member of Central Baptist Church in Great Bend.
Survivors include her husband of the home; four sons, William Johnson of
Stuart, Va., Lyndon Baines Johnson of Swan Quarter, N.C., Edward Johnson
and Stephen Mai, both of Great Bend; two daughters, Sarina Johnson of
Salina and Skye Mai of Great Bend; and 11 grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Dr. Gordon
E. Rhodes officiating. Burial will be at Russell City Cemetery. Memorials

Grace Delores Sturtz 1935-2000
ELLINWOOD - Grace Delores Sturtz, 65, died Dec. 11 at her home in Ellinwood. She was born June 29, 1935, in Great Bend, the daughter of the Rev. Oliver K. and Hulda Koch Ringering. She married
Edgar Sturtz Sept. 1, 1955, in Shattuck, Okla. A long time resident of Ellinwood, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Sturtz was a member of First Baptist Church, WMF of Ellinwood, former Ellinwood Library board member, Barton County Food Bank board member, Community Concert board member, Barton County Community College Orchestra and Fort Hays State University Orchestra. Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Tevye Sturtz of Ellinwood; three daughters, Debra Typaldos of Nixa, Mo., Karen Bohn of Ellinwood and Stephanie Lafreniere of Oklahoma City, Okla.; step-mother, Elizabeth Ann Ringering of Hillsboro; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Joyce Ringering.

HEIZER - Paul August Schultz, 79, died Dec. 9 at his home in Heizer. He was born April 8, 1921, in Great Bend, the son of August Henry and Hilda Paul Schultz. He married
Ruby Smith May 2, 1946, in Great Bend. She died Aug. 31, 1981. A lifetime resident of Heizer, he was a farmer, former sexton of Great Bend cemetery and former employee at Dean's Furniture of Great Bend.
Schultz was a member of Assembly of God Church and an Air Corps veteran of World War II. Survivors include one son, Larry W. Schultz of Topeka; and one daughter Jeanette R. Schultz of Modesto, Calif. LARNED - Frances M. Wheeler, 71, died Dec. 11 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. She was born Jan. 17, 1929, in Garfield, the daughter of Milton K. and Edna Mae Hall Blose. She married
Arthur Wheeler Nov. 19, 1964, in Nowata, Okla. He died Nov. 8, 1984. A resident of Wichita for four years, coming from Larned and Belpre, she was a retired food service supervisor at Larned State Hospital. Mrs. Wheeler attended the Christian Church and First Baptist Church and was a member of American Legion Auxiliary, all of Larned.
Survivors include two sons, Steven L. Pleasant and Ronald F. Pleasant, both of Wichita; one daughter, Pamela B. Rose of Wichita; four sisters, Lillie Murdie of Garfield, Helen Strain of Penngrove, Calif., Charlotte Strain of Rogersville, Mo., and Marion Bartch of Springfield, Mo.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Blose. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Morrell Funeral Home in Larned with the Rev. Dan Lundgren officiating. August 'Auggie' J. Ehly 1912-2000
CLAFLIN - August "Auggie" J. Ehly, 88, died Dec. 10 at Hoisington Rehabilitation Center. He was born April 27, 1912, in Claflin, the son of Gus A. and Mary Knorr Ehly. A lifetime resident of Claflin, he was owner and operator of "The Lounge" for 27 years in Claflin, before retiring in 1995. He was a former sexton of area cemeteries and a farmer. Ehly was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Claflin. Survivors include one brother, Walter K. Ehly of Claflin; three sisters, Helen Kimpler of Great Bend, Beatrice Jarchou of Wichita and Jolene Walden of Apple Valley, Calif. He was preceded in death by three brothers, James Ehly, Richard Ehly and George Ehly; two sisters, Lois Linsner and Lucille Bergstrom; and other infant brothers and sisters. LARNED - Daniel L. Miller, 60, died Dec. 10 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Joseph Campus in Larned. He was born June 6, 1940, in Fort Collins, Colo., the son of D.L. and Lida Grace Brenneman Miller. A longtime resident of Larned, coming from Greensburg, he was a licensed mental health technician at Larned State Hospital. Miller was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, Gideons International Larned Camp and a volunteer at the Department of Corrections. Survivors include his parents of Hutchinson; two brothers, Bob Miller of Coppell, Texas, and Sam Miller of Speedway, Ind.; and one sister, Virginia Rae Beard of Bedford, Ind. Margaret M. Leeper July 15, 1941. He was a resident of Colorado Springs, coming from Great Bend. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Gary E. Willy of Colorado Springs; two sisters, Gladys Russell of Deming, N.M., and Edna Fox of St. John; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Leta Lacey; two brothers, Harlan Cooper and Chester Cooper; and one sister, Marie Fox. RUSSELL - Ophelia A. Keeton, 89, died Dec. 10 at Phillips County Hospital, Long Term Care Unit in Phillipsburg. She was born Dec. 12, 1910, in Russell County, the daughter of William H. and Mollie Strecker Michaelis. She married
Harold H. Steinert. He died May 28, 1961. She married
Cleo M. Keeton Feb. 9, 1974 in Russell. A resident of Phillipsburg, coming from Galatia, Russell and Milberger, she was a homemaker and receptionist in Russell. Mrs. Keeton was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Russell. Survivors include her husband of the home; one daughter, Janice Mai of Russell; one sister, Lenetta Deutsch of Hoisington; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Walter Michaelis, Huldrich Michaelis, Delmar Michaelis and Oscar Michaelis. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church in Russell with the Rev. Florence E. Meyeres May 9, 1950, in Beaver. A resident of Russell, he was a Moorman feed dealer for 22 years and was a farmer and stockman. Ptacek was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6240, both of Russell, and Knights of Columbus in Wilson. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II with overseas duty in the European theater. Survivors include his wife of the home; four sons, Duane Ptacek of Yutan, Neb., Ron Ptacek of Russell, Richard Ptacek of Victoria and Keith Ptacek of Great Bend; one daughter, Karen Bond of Sylvan Grove; three brothers, Edward Ptacek of Ellsworth, Alfred Ptacek of Minneapolis and Francis Ptacek of Russell; three sisters, Beatrice Gerstenkorn of Waterloo, Ann Mae Janda of Lyons and Helen Reeves of Sylvan Grove; 20 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
